[Bug 131286] Re: Cannot play BBC Live TMS Scorecard

2007-08-24 Thread Russel Winder
Unfortunately, a specific URL only exists whilst the game being
reported is actually being played. So testing can only happen when a
game is being reported. (The BBC pipe their radio commentary and an
information display feed to a game specific URL.) Fortunately, the BBC
are always reporting on some game, as long as one is being played
somewhere, so it is a question of going to the main cricket page and
then finding the currently in use URL.

I haven't tried them with the GStreamer version to see if they exhibit
the same problems, they appear to work fine under the Xine version, but
the BBC do have various video/audio articles on the sport main page
(http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport). Again specific URLs change on a daily
basis but there is always something there.

The BBC help page is currently:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/video_and_audio/help_guide/4304501.stm,
but I guess this might change as well :-)

[Bug 72638] Re: Photo import fails

2007-08-24 Thread shevron
sorry for doublepost but i couldn't find the edit-button
so... i found a "solution" for my problem.
I guess I was too fast.
OK... that was never a problem before...
so... here is how it works FOR ME...

My camera has this red led blinking when it's working...
and when you connect it with the pc... well it has to work...

Now i waited until it stops blinking and pressed "Import photos" then...
and... here we go... it works!

So maybe you should do it like... the driver needs some time to load... so give
it that time...
and when the driver is loaded start gthumb...
hope it works for you other guys too.

2007-08-24 Thread shevron
It's an issue in 7.10 too. My Olympus SP 510 UZ is recognized as Olympus C-370Z.
The problems are the same...
No photos are found on the device and I can't choose the right device (it's not
in the list!).
The funny thing is... that it works all the time... but since I updated my
system last night
I got that problem.
It would be great if you fix it! thanks!

[Bug 63544] Re: Volume control key controls speaker & not headphones

2007-08-24 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
*Sigh*... the joys of free software. Again, something doesn't work
properly and the bug gets marked as "invalid" because one can manually
fix it.

The current behaviour (in Gutsy Tribe 5) is unexpected and unintuitive.
That means that there *is* a bug, we just have to figure out the best
solution to the problem and file the appropriate upstream bugs that will
result in this being fixed.

I propose that we file an upstream to have the volume hotkeys control
both Master and Headphones by default. That seems the intuitive thing
for them to control. People that want to change that to "get more
control" are likely to be a small percentage of advanced users and these
users are likely to be able to find the ability in Sound > Preferences.

[Bug 134616] [gutsy] image viewer slow to start

2007-08-24 Thread ChrisC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

opening an image is *very* slow, running eye of gnome from the
command prompt is also slow and comes up with

** (eog:6550): WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

I assume its referring to dbus?? which *is* running

GNOME eog 2.19.5
D-Bus Message Bus Launcher 1.1.1

an image viewer really does need to come up straight away, *if* dbus is
essential
eog should wait for it in a separate thread while it gets on with actually
showing the image - which is kinda what its for...

Also, bug #59316 and bug #69731 seem to be the same. Note that they are

render well for you on 7.04 patched, we should compare installed package

To my eye, it is not antialiasing the Type-3 fonts.

No, sorry, I'm on Feisty with evince 0.8.1, and I get terrible Type-3

ghostscript) on the attached Python tutorial. The middle is evince on
the same document. The right is evince on my syllabus, which is also
attached. The tutorial uses mostly CMR Type 3 fonts, but the syllabus
uses Type 1 and TrueType. Acroread does as well as ghostscript.

[Bug 109667] Re: totem visual effects take 100% cpu

2007-08-24 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducable with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Bug 134437] Re: Bottom Panel Dosen't Load Correctly

2007-08-24 Thread John Tiang-Leung
The steps i took that caused this problem was:
1. I Logout using the Quit Option
2. I Log Back into my account
3. It lets me log in successfully with everything on my desktop
4. The Bottom Panel then appears and then dissapears quickly
5. I right click where the Panel used to be and then it appears, but some
buttons don't work and the trash shows that it is empty, when i have 1 file in
it.

It worked fine for me the first few days i had Ubuntu and then this
problem started to happen when i started to install programs like Google
Earth, BOINC, and a few Educational Programs.

My Computer Specs are:
-Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz CPU
-Intel Integrated Extreme 2 Graphics
-256 MB of RAM
-Integrated Audio

[Bug 131973] Re: desktop random freezes in feisty

2007-08-24 Thread Riccardo Lucchese
Hi

I experienced such problems for months now, both on a AMD Athlon with
nv5200(running proprietary drivers) and on a laptop with a centrino and
a radeon 9600M(os drivers).

It used to happen under whatever kind of load (and to shot it down: I
don't run compiz).

Since beginning the problem was 100% "fixed" on the laptop passing noacpi
nolapic parameters to kernel(both feisty and gusty).
On the desktop I tried many different things until know but nothing wasn't
enough (it used to freeze also without any X server running :D)

After a bit of lkml reading I came to this:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/21/435
[he is experiencing both mouse-only-freezes and *total*-hard-freezes :D]

On both machines I'm running gusty now and I solved completely the problem by
launching ASAP after login:
sudo /etc/init.d/powernowd stop

I've read that in many threads is asked to debug the crash :), but
actually there is nothing I can do in my case: no way to get into the
pc, no ssh, no ping, no nothing...

(an already opened ssh session from a remote client to the freezing
machine also freezes at the same time:) )

Hope to hear soon about ideas on how to fix this and how I may help,
Thanks!
Riccardo

[Bug 134568] Evolution Mail plugin segfault

2007-08-24 Thread mindcorrosive
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The evolution mail plugin in evolution package throws a segfault on
starting. I'm running gutsy, with all packages up-to-date. evolution
version is 2.11.90-0ubuntu2. all other plugins work properly, if
evolution is started as

$ evolution -c tasks

or any other plugin except mail. If I start it this way, no segfault
occurs, unless I click on the mail section. This kills instantly the
program and throws the segfault. The log produces the following:

** (evolution:29101): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution --component=mail %s
** (evolution:29101): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution

(evolution:29101): evolution-mail-CRITICAL **: mail_tool_uri_to_folder:

I'd like to see this fixed, since it is kind of annoying to open

current behaviour of rendering once when it is loaded then zooming in
the rendered image (which makes it blurry).

I would expect that there is no value input and symbol input from 'a/A-f/F' are
ignored.
I think when Hexadecimal input is available, it should take precedence over
features like Function editing and Accuracy setup that are easily reachable
through buttons but nowhere used as frequently as the Hexadecimal inputs.

Yes, but insensitive to the case of the entered symbol.
(While it's logical that there is no 'capital 1', but why do I have to press
Shift whenever I go over 9)

In the end, sorry for the bug report, I should have RTFM'd more.

[Bug 77133] f-spot problems while exporting file to cd - Unable to create CD

2007-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Using f-spot from edgy (f-spot 0.2.1), I have problems exporting images
to the cd.

I select some images, export them to cd. F-Spot looks like it is copying
the files to the temporary directory where all files are stored that
should be burned. But then, when it starts up the cd burn frontend, it
shows the following message:

In german: "CD/DVD konnte nicht erstellt werden. Keine Dateien
ausgewählt."

The message translated to english should be
Unable to create CD/DVD
No files were selected.

There seems to be some one else having this problem on ubuntu, see
http://gnomesupport.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11834

Strange thing is that this problem does not occur if there is already
lying some file in the CD "Burn" location. Then everything is working
fine. But if you delete this file again from the burn location and
export an image from f-spot, you have the problem again.

Regards

Jens

[Bug 85417] f-spot doesn't error check its inputs when exporting to gallery

2007-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: f-spot

When exporting to gallery (v1.5), f-spot doesn't do a very good job of
checking its inputs. Album names cannot have a certain set of characters
in them, but f-spot will merrily allow them to be used. After uploading
one's pictures into a mis-named album, the new album may appear, but
won't be modifyable or even viewable. I experienced this most recently
with the latest feisty f-spot.

Arguably, gallery should be sending the error to f-spot, but it doesn't,
so it becomes f-spots problems.

Here's the list of characters explictly illegal in album names in
gallery 1.5.4 "% \ / * ? " ’ & < > | . + # ( )or spaces"

[Bug 104856] Re: gnome cant access windows network.

2007-08-24 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducable with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.
