[Bug 135004] No sound in Toshiba laptop

2007-08-26 Thread Janice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

There is no sound at all. It doesn't work in any of the programs or system
events.
HDA Intel High Definition Audio Controller
So far this is the only complaint I have with Ubuntu 7.04, well also the
Atheros restricted driver, but at least I can get on the internet even if it's
only 47%.

I'm very new at this Linux stuff, so if you need any more info let me know.
Thank you,
Janice

[Bug 133567] Re: [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive

2007-08-26 Thread yostral
I have exactly the same problem. When I plug in a vfat external usb HDD,
Nautilus freezes during about 30 secondes before I can do something
(except using other programs like firefox). The window of hdd content
opens, but nothing appears and I have the "waiting cursor".

I've attached a backtrace file, but nothing happens, it's not a crash. I
had to stop manually the gdb process (Ctrl+C) when "continuing".

I don't do anything special to mount my drive, I just plug it in.

It does that with both 2.6.22-9 and 2.6.22-10 kernels on 32 and 64 bits.

If you need more informations...

[Bug 134979] gnome-screenshot fail to find the good directory with new translated folders names

2007-08-26 Thread Cyrille Grosdemange
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

In gutsy, installed in French language, the directories under /home/user/ have
been translated :
"Desktop" become "Bureau"

It's a good thing but while pressing the "print screen" key on keyboard
for the first time to take a screenshot, gnome-screenshot search for the
"Desktop" directory and say he doesn't find the directory... which is
normal because it's named "Bureau"...

[Bug 134955] Tooltips frequently appear below menus

2007-08-26 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Open the "Applications" menu
Highlight "Accessories"
Wait for tooltip to appear
Highlight "Games", underneath

Notice that the tooltip appears immediately, but the menu appears a
short while later. The menu obscures the tooltip.

This does not always happen the first time, try moving backwards and
forwards between items and it will eventually happen.

Tooltips should have the highest Z order than any other window class.

[Bug 134914] Re: [regression] mousewheel on eog no longer scales image

2007-08-26 Thread xtknight
The docs however need to be updated. If it is not a problem I am going
to reopen this so the docs can be fixed. Searching for "zooming":

"You can zoom in or out of the image in the following ways:

* Use the scroll wheel on a mouse. Scrolling down zooms out;
scrolling up zooms in."

** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => New

** Summary changed:

- [regression] mousewheel on eog no longer scales image
+ eog documentation needs updating

** Description changed:

- In Feisty, you could use the mousewheel in Eye of GNOME to resize/scale
- the image you were viewing (like a finer version of the coarse In/Out
- buttons). This no longer works in Gutsy's eog.
+ The documents of eog specify that you can use the scroll wheel to zoom
+ an image (which was the old behavior), but they should now indicate that
+ the CONTROL key is necessary.

[Bug 36302] Re: Volume keyboard shortcut fails to increase volume

2007-08-26 Thread Polygon
Confirmed fixed for Gutsy (tribe 5)

to choose which volume channel the volume multimedia buttons change, you
have to go to system > prefs > sound, and at the bottom of the first tab
there is a box called 'default mixer tracks', choose the channel that
you want to control with the multimedia buttons. and then it works :D

if open eog from the command line within an images directory and open an

steps to reproduce:
1.- open a xterm
2.- go to a directory which contains images
3.- open eog without parameter from the command line
4.- go to File -> Open and select the first image, you'll notice that doesn't
show the image, but in the top bar on the left of the window manager show a
small preview of the image.
5.- go to File -> Properties and you'll be able to see the image preview and

[Bug 134922] GTK based windows/apps don't load completely --- stalls

2007-08-26 Thread Arnold J Noronha
Public bug reported:

Since today (Aug 26th)'s update (Gutsy Gibbon), I've had some trouble
with Gnome application's windows failing to load. The symptoms are: If I
run from menu then it looks like a crashed application. However its not
taking any processor... and compiz does not gray it out... (it still
happens if I turn off compiz). If I run from terminal it produces no
output and no window is drawn

This is true for many GTK based applications (gedit, chess) preferences
dialogs (everything that I tried on the preferences and administration
menu) don't open... I can create windows from existing applications
(tested with gaim). Opening gedit from terminal causes no output and
just crashes... I followed the steps from [1] to produce a backtrace of
gedit (since its from terminal, no window opened in this case):

Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1".
(gdb) handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint
SignalStop Print Pass to program Description
SIG33 NoNo  Yes Real-time event 33

[Bug 134911] [gutsy] Screen resolutions other than current are not listed

2007-08-26 Thread xtknight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In the Screen Resolution applet, no resolution other than the current is
listed. This happens on my PC using the nvidia proprietary driver, and
the source code indicates that it should be happening for everyone.

for (i = 0; i < screen_info->n_sizes; i++) {
..
  //if (i == current_size || show_resolution (sizes[i].width, sizes[i].height))
  if (((sizes[i].width > 0) && (sizes[i].height > 0)) && (show_resolution
(sizes[i].width, sizes[i].height)))
..
}

The "if" statement is checking if one of the resolutions is the current,
which doesn't make any sense. *All* modes should be added to the list,
not the current. The new "if" posted above fixes this problem.

Another interesting thing is that "i == current_size" is checked within
the original clause, which obviously does not need to be done if "i ==
current_size" was already checked. So, something was obviously
overlooked here.

.. if (i == current_size)  current_item = item;

Since (i == current_size) is not checked in the patched clause, we
should leave it here because it does serve its intended purpose now (to
select the user's current resolution out of the long list of ALL
resolutions).

Here is the full source code
(gnome-control-center-2.19.90/capplets/display/main.c):
  for (i = 0; i < screen_info->n_sizes; i++)
{
  if (((sizes[i].width > 0) && (sizes[i].height > 0)) && (show_resolution
(sizes[i].width, sizes[i].height)))
  //if (i == current_size || show_resolution (sizes[i].width,
sizes[i].height))
{
  str = g_strdup_printf ("%dx%d", sizes[i].width, sizes[i].height);

  if (i == current_size)
current_item = item;

  gtk_list_store_append(store, &iter);
  gtk_list_store_set(store, &iter,
 COL_NAME, str,
 COL_ID, i,
 -1);

  g_free (str);
  item++;
}
}

[Bug 91426] Re: Nautilus doesn't show SD card icon

2007-08-26 Thread Tom Vetterlein
I can confirm this bug with Gutsy on a Lenovo R61 which I believe has a
Ricoh 5c843.

When using an SD card in the internal card reader I have an icon on the
desktop but not in the Nautilus sidebar.

Screenshot attached.

Do you need anything else?

[Bug 133375] Re: Can't get microphone to work on ThinkPad Z60m Ubuntu

2007-08-26 Thread at78rpm
Is there any other information you require? I'd like to get this taken
care of soon; I know it's a pain in the tail, but...I'm thinking of
switching to PCLinuxOS because it seems not to have the same sound
problems as Ubuntu. Or will that be one of the improvements in the new
version?

Re: [Bug 65125] Re: highlighted menu name flickers when clicked

2007-08-26 Thread Amnon Aaronsohn
I was able to reproduce the problem using the latest testing live CD.
The only actions I did after the desktop appeared were:

(1) change the resolution (shouldn't be relevant)
(2) changed the theme to "glider"
(3) moved the mouse pointer over a desktop menu item (System). The
item gets highlighted
(4) clicked the item. The item gets un-highlighted for a second and
then re-highlighted.

(This doesn't happen when the System menu is already open.)

[Bug 134900] rhythmbox shouldn't attempt to import temporary files generated when changing song tags

2007-08-26 Thread Ryan Zeigler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox now supports the ability to edit id3 tags of certain files.
However, when editing id3 tags, some kind of temporary file appears to
be generated in the process. When "watch library" is set, an import
failure occurs on these temporary files. Rhythmbox should know it
created a temporary file which it is not going to keep and not attempt
to import it.

As I see non Ubuntu version has much more features like additional
included Window animations and enhanced Cube settings. Maybe I'm also
familiar with Beryl-like Settings Panel. I'm not against Ubuntu version
but for now is too miserable for me. If it will be improved in future
I'll change to it for sure.

[Bug 134894] Re: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' tocorrect the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

2007-08-26 Thread Áron Sisak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. Furthermore
1. Please try to run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' in a terminal window before
reporting errors.
2. Where is this Limewire P2P. I wonder if it is an official / supported
package.

On the other hand if you think this is still a valid bug, please
consider the following advice: You may find it helpful to read "How to
report bugs effectively" [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Re: [Bug 105970] Re: gnome crashes when system suspends with smb shares still mounted

2007-08-26 Thread bastubis
Just repeated the backtrace, nautilus is exiting normally. Sorry to
waste your time, I haven't really tried it properly on Feisty before.

On dapper, it was crashing cataclysmically -- but I didn't know I
needed to install debug symbols before doing the backtrace then so
the log was probably useless.

Thanks! It seems to be working fine now -- I've put the mounts back
into fstab (and now I've got the hang of backtracing properly so it
wasn't a total waste of time for me).

Sorry and thanks!

[Bug 89660] Re: control-cursor-key regression in vim

2007-08-26 Thread Hal
Wow, as a brand new Ubuntu user coming over as a long time ~Red Hat
user, this is my first negative impression. I install 7.04 flawlessly in
less than hour. Very, very happy. I manually install very easily a bunch
of other packages I need for both work and play in maybe another hour. I
am really, really happy at this point. I then start the fine-tuning and
spend maybe *six hours* to find a steenkin terminal app that works
properly and that I like (has to have tabs)! ( I spend hours each day
having to work via terminals connecting remotely.) Then I find this is a
known issue for six months or so. Not very happy, to say the least.
While apparently this is 'low priority' to gnome, fedora or ubuntu
developers, it is hugely important to those who have to use terminal
applications and editors like vim. .02, and I wish I knew more about
apt so I get past this one. Having spent many years using multi-gnome-
terminal and its little brother gnome-terminal, I guess my only choice
is mrxvt. They seem like they might take this kind of thing seriously.
Peace.

[Bug 130504] Re: window corrupted by size change

2007-08-26 Thread Peter T Hayward
I use Ubuntu 7.04 (up-to-date).
Another way to generate a similar problem.
Go to this site
http://www.rm.com/Support/
Copy the link address from 'How to install drivers ...'
javascript:viewTechDoc('/Support/TechnicalArticle.asp?cref=TEC977590&referrer=SupportHome&nav=0');
and open the page.
The page opens in a new window as shown in my attachment, openedlink.png

The new window only shows the LHS of the page.

If this procedure is done in Firefox the new window is automatically
resized (tall and narrow) and shows the whole page. Epiphany fails to
resize and so shows only the LHS of the page.

My previous report had this happening in the same window when clicking a
link on a google search page. It didn't seem to find the page when I
tried it again.

[Bug 134749] Notification baloon tooltip appears in wrong place

2007-08-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I just booted Gutsy Tribe 5 and noticed that the baloon tooltip appeared
in the wrong place. It appears to start from a random location instead
of starting at the little corresponding icon (next to the battery etc).

** Affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu)
