I've recreated something similar under gutsy. [Bug 132349] Re: external usb disks no longer mount in gutsy
I can consistently break automounting in tribe5 (although rebooting the PC fixes it): 1. I Run gparted. 2. I tell it to unmount the external 120 GB USB drive. It does so (and then crashes when rescanning devices). 3. I re-run gparted and tell it to format the external drive to FAT32. It does so (and then crashes when rescanning devices). Now neither of my external drives will automount until I reboot the PC. I can still manually mount them with the sudo mount command, though. -- external usb disks no longer mount in gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132349 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-volume-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 133567] Re: [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive
Re my previous comment, after rebooting, my drives are auto-mounting again, and now I can confirm a difference in operation between automounting and manually mounting the drive: a) If the drive automounts, gnome-volume-manager doesn't spend ages doing something with it until I try to open it in nautilus. Then gnome- volume-manager gets busy and nautilus freezes until it has finished. b) If I manually mount the drive with sudo mount, gnome-volume-manager immediately spends ages doing something with the drive. If I try to open the drive in nautilus during this time, it freezes until gnome-volume- manager is finished, but if I wait until gnome-volume-manager is finished before opening nautilus on the drive, nautilus shows the contents immediately. This is on a freshly formatted drive. [Bug 133567] Re: [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive
I tried emptying the vfat drive completely of all files (including trash), and it still experienced the delay in first opening nautilus. I tried reformatting the drive using gparted (which incidentally crashed when it went to rescan the drives afterwards, and now my external drives no longer automount), and there is still the delay in first opening nautilus. The behaviour does seem slightly different from before, though. Now when I mount the drive manually, its light flickers for a while during which gnome-volume-manager and usb-storage consume the most CPU cycles (4-5%). Also during this time, umount reports that the device is busy. gnomevfs- ls still works at normal speed during this time. When all this finishes, if I run nautilus on the directory, it appears pretty much instantly. So now it seems there is some automated process running when the drive is mounted instead of when nautilus first tries to access it, but nautilus is still freezing waiting for this process to complete. The only software difference I can see is that hal is now at 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu3 instead of ubuntu2 and nautilus is 1:2.19.90-0ubuntu1 instead of .91-0ubuntu1. I checked again that this delay isn't happening on my external ext3 drives. -- [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133567 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 18735] Re: [gutsy] rhythmbox doesn't automatically start after selecting audio file with Nautilus
Still happens in Gutsy (Ubuntu 7.10 alpha 5) using: rhythmbox 0.11.2-0ubuntu2 nautilus 1:2.19.91-0ubuntu1 To reproduce the bug: in Nautilus go to a directory with an .ogg file, double click on it, and an error message pops up [screenshot 1] saying: "(name of song) cannot be opened" No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file. It seems Nautilus doesn't know about the file association between .ogg files and Rhythmbox, even when it is set in System -> Preferences -> Preferred applications [screenshot 2]. To try it in another way: right-click same file in Nautilus, the context menu has as first entry "Open" (without saying which app to open with), and next entry says "Open with Rhythmbox" [screenshot 3]. Selecting this second option opens up Rhythmbox, but the song doesn't play [screenshot 4]. The only way to listen the .ogg file is (inside Rhythmbox) going to Music -> Import file... and importing the song [screenshot 5]. Very frustrating, hearing a song should not require this amount of work. Re: [Bug 135609] Re: It's hard to seek through fullscreen video
I'm on Feisty, without any compositing enabled, with an nVidia Go5200, although I really don't think that information is pertinent to this bug. I've attached a screenshot to help you understand what i mean by my description. The bottom part of the image shows a portion of the fullscreen toolbar, without the mouse on the handle. The top image shows what happens when the mouse is clicked on the handle and dragged enough to activate the "Seek to" thing. The display on the right changes, and since it's longer, it causes the slider to resize, and the handle to move right relative to the slider. As you can see on the right of both parts, just dragging the handle one way and then back to where it was would cause this particular 2:05 video to move forward by 2 seconds... it gets much worse on a longer DVD movie. [Bug 103136] Gnome power preferences applet doesn't let me hibernate on pressing power button, or set disk idle time, or set a time to wait before hibernating
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Feisty, the only options I have when I press the power button on my computer is "ask me" or "shutdown". "Sleep" and "Hibernate" aren't included in the drop down menu, and they should be. Also, there's a bar that lets me set the time to wait before sleeping, but there's not a similar one for hibernate. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 135646] metacity is a huge piece of shit
Public bug reported: Metacity does not properly focus windows at all. I've reproduced this behavior on many different hardware machines running Ubuntu 7.04. To see the problem in action, first add a few buttons to the panel at the top of the screen. Then, open firefox. Open some other programs using the quick launch buttons. Open some programs using the application menu. Witness that the newly opened program windows sometimes will be focused, sometimes will NOT be focused. Obviously, by clicking a button or navigating the menu and then clicking, the user has VERY CLEARLY indicated that they wish to run this program, and it should be focused when it launches! The new windows will also do the flashing window thing in the task list, asking for attention, instead of being focused. This is a _HUGE_ usability issue, that needs to be resolved ASAP. quod vide: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/41623 ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: metacity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- metacity is a huge piece of shit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135646 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I cannot verify this bug on gutsy gibbon, but I have installations of both ubuntu 6.10 and 7.04 releases, and I have had the same bug occur on both installations. I also have had the same problem using scp from the command line, trying to pull the file down from the server. This one I can only verify as occurring on ubuntu 7.04. [Bug 135626] [gutsy] oversized Evolution window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When I have unread messages in Evolution the number is shown behind the directory. This causes Evolution to oversize the window (the [x] (Close) Button and the Scrollbar is not in my 1024x768 window, but right of it. So I can't access these items without marking all messages as read! The same thing happens if I select more than one message. The problem seems to be, that the left "navigation" with the v-Directories is resized in these cases. One time because the number of unread messages is shown behind the dirs and one time because in the top there is not only "123 total" but "123 total, 2 selected"! ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gutsy] oversized Evolution window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 114359] Re: File Browser shows unmounted partitions
Sebastien, I don't understand your comment. Should I have written "File Browser" instead of "Nautilus"? Reason for putting my request in this thread is because I think the request is linked to the "File Browser in Ubuntu 7.04 is showing unmounted partitions bug" described by Radha. In your earlier comment you've indicated: "The computer location list everything so you can mount drives by clicking on them, that's not a bug" In my request I'm not talking about a bug. I'm asking about the possibility of adding a "feature" to the File Browser such that the user can choose to hide (or not to hide) unmounted partitions in the "Places" pane. In the case it would possible to add this feature to the File Browser I would even argue that the "default" setting of File Browser should be "unmounted partitions not visible" as I tried to explain in my comment on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3210306 Regards, Marlo -- File Browser shows unmounted partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114359 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
