[Bug 136273] Rhythmbox crashes when transferring an OGG file to a MTP-enabled player

2007-08-30 Thread Marcos
Public bug reported:

I bought a Sandisk Sansa e250 mplayer, I plugged it in Ubuntu gutsy
7.10, Rhythmbox saw it fast, so I decided to transfer some of my OGG
files, it started transferring perfectly but..then when it finished it
just crashed! So I killed rhythmbox, re-attached the MP3 Player as MSC
and a desktop icon opped up, I access the Music folder and I can clearly
see the converted file (from ogg it turned to mp3), but its not in the
Mp3's list, but if I transfer the files being ORIGINALLY Mp3 codec, the
list gets updated fine.

[Bug 136256] "Quit" option in System menu - strange wording?

2007-08-30 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In the System menu, there is an option labelled "Quit..."

I have seen two different users confused by this option, who have had
trouble determining how to log out. There are a few reasons for this,
and some other problems associated with this naming:

-"Quit" is generally not associated with logging out of the system. When
somebody is looking to log out or turn off the computer, "Quit" is usually not
the first thing on his mind.
-That menu item also leads to Hibernate, Stand By and Lock Screen. None of
these are really quitting, but rather pausing.
-"Quit" may be mistaken for the action of exiting a program. It is (vaguely)
possible that a user could select that menu option thinking to quit a program.

I will admit to being unable to think of such a broad title as would
cover all these options at once (other than Quit), but I believe if
there is a tidy and understandable solution, it would work well.

[Bug 135016] Re: Evolution prevents nfs server from working when synchronising folders

2007-08-30 Thread RichardKinder
Not at all. The issue is that evolution is opening lots of small files
on the local hard disk (not via NFS - I'm running an NFS server, not
client), which resource starves the NFS server running on the same box.
I highly doubt this problem is isolated to evolution, but since it's the
application that exposes the (kernel/driver?) bug, it seemed the correct
application to open the issue against. Apologies if this is incorrect.
Just want to make it clear that I do know what I'm talking about here -
just may not be making things clear :)

[Bug 133164] Re: [gutsy] rhythmbox crashed with the artwork plugin in PyImport_GetModuleDict()

2007-08-30 Thread Jerry Chong
It's a UPnP framework used by Rhythmbox for music sharing. Anyway, good
point, disabling UPnP did fix the conflict crash. But since both of them
are part of upstream, and python-coherence hasn't landed in the
repository yet (found nothing on packages.ubuntu.com), is it still
considered an Ubuntu bug, or should I change it to upstream?

[Bug 136235] Freeze when mounting firewire 400 FAT 32drive in gutsy

2007-08-30 Thread Ludovico Fischer
Public bug reported:

I've got an external LaCie hard drive formatted as FAT 32. If I try to
mount it via the GUI, the a window opens, but stays blank, and I have to
force quit File Manager. After closing that blank window, the disk icon
is visible on the Desktop. If I double-click it, everything works
normally.

When printing out of evolution, the scaling of the message is not visible. For
example scaling to 160% will result in a printed message of 160%. The problem
is that because it's not visible (directly in the print preview) the option is
quite useless.

[Bug 102309] desktop-effects sets workspaces to 1

2007-08-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: compiz-core

Compiz 0.3.6

I'm running on Fiesty Beta in Gnome 2.18. Normally, my top panel
contains a workplace switcher with two workplaces, but every time I go
to Preferences >>Desktop Effects and I turn on or off the Workspaces on
Cube option, my workspace switcher loose a workspace and I have to go
back on the workplaces switcher Preferences and put 2 workspaces again.

Thanx in advance.

Re: [Bug 126645] Re: Emails wont preview when opened

2007-08-30 Thread JMJ
Hi Pedro,

Sorry for the delay in responding previously. I've been moving house and
not had internet until now. After some more digging, I think I've found the
cause. My inbox was set to only show unread items. When I then open an
item, it becomes unread. The email window would open up but then not load
any data.
This was happening sporadically and now since I've changed the setting to
show all items I haven't experienced the problem again.
I'm unable to give you any terminal information however as I'm a new Linux
user so apologies for that. If you require any further info please let me
know and I'll try to help as best I can.

Thanks again

[Bug 135626] Re: [gutsy] oversized Evolution window

2007-08-30 Thread Elektranox
> Just wondering, is your evolution maximized (ALT+F10) ?

yes, it is.
When I mark the messages as read and select only one the window resizes back to
maximized mode.

Another interesting thing is, that I can't resize the left box. It just
doesn't work.

I guess, that Evolution can't make the right box smaller and so is not
able to make the left box bigger. When there are unread mails or more
than one mail is selected, the left box gets bigger and can't be that
small and the right box can't get smaller, too -> Evolution oversizes
the window.

But now the question is: WHY can't Evolution make the right box smaller?

[Bug 135979] gnome pilot does not synchronise To Do list (tasks)

2007-08-30 Thread Roger Epps
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

If I set the e To Do conduit to anything but Disabled, the connection
between the Palm and the PC appears to hang (the connection runs for a
considerable time without doing anything before the Palm reports that
the connection has been lost). When the conduit is set to disabled the
synchronization completes successfully.

[Bug 135680] Re: evince chokes on absolute paths that include a #

2007-08-30 Thread Peter Cordes
Launching from Nautilus shows the same problem for me.

You probably need an NFS mount, or maybe even an autofs-mounted NFS
mount, to reproduce this. Like I said, it only happens in /net for me.

I just tried copying my file to bar.pdf. Then evince
/net/llama/home/peter/bar.pdf works. (It makes a copy in
/tmp/evince-8626/document-5-bar.pdf).

 I tried ln -s ACTInc_Quote#1722076.2.pdf foo.pdf, then evince
/net/llama/home/peter/foo.pdf fails, with the message
   Unable to open document
   Unhandled MIME type: "application/octet-stream"

 /tmp/evince-8626 contains
lrwxrwxrwx 1 peter peter  26 2007-08-30 16:28 document-6-foo.pdf ->
ACTInc_Quote#1722076.2.pdf
(i.e. it copied the symlink, and the symlink is broken because it is a
relative link.)

[Bug 135912] Sort order for memory fields in process list is inverted

2007-08-30 Thread Ulf Rompe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Klicking on a memory field header should disply the process list sorted
by this field in descending order. While the arrow indicates exactly
this, the actual sort order is ascending. Klicking once more inverts the
situation, the arrow indicates ascending order while in fact the list is
shown in a descending manner.

This happens on all memory related fields. It didn't happen in Feisty.

Are you using the -i810 driver? If so, try switching to -intel. If
that resolves the problem, then the fix for bug 135141 fixes this one as
well.

[Bug 135902] No Sound

2007-08-30 Thread Iain Taylor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Hi, I know that someone else has already reported this issue of no
sounds from rhthymbox, and I don't want to replicate the report however,
when I first installed unbuntu 2 weeks ago I could play CD's listen to
the radio and hear the system sounds now there is no sound at all and
all that has changed is the software udpates. Like the other user who
reported a similar fault I am new to unbuntu so am still getting to know
it.

[Bug 135903] gutsy: at-spi-registryd not starting automatically during gdmlogin

2007-08-30 Thread Francesco Fumanti
Public bug reported:

During the gdmlogin session, at-spi-registryd should be automatically
started when Assistive Technology is enabled (I don't know for sure
whether it should also be automatically started if Assistive Technology
is not enabled.) It does start automatically in Ubuntu 7.04,but it does
not start anymore in 7.10.

However, if I define a gesture to start at-spi-registryd in the dwell
gesture configuration of gdm, I can start it without a problem. This
shows that it is probably not a problem of gdm and at-spi-registryd
running simultaneously.

[Bug 76902] Re: Switch user crashes system.

2007-08-30 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
I can confirm this bug. Switching users when compiz is enabled crashes
the xserver.

Reproduceable steps:
  login user A
  switch to user B
enter password at gdm for user B
  switch back to user A
  HALT

This is happening to a lot of users:
see also:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/46018
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/64023

I am using an nvidia card, but one of these bug reports is about an ati card.
They also specify it does not happening when the users use metacity.
One of the bug is incorrectly marked as a duplicate of an ati crash.

The common factor in my experience and these bug-reports clearly is
compiz-fusion.
They also both specify (like in my experience) that logging in to another user
through GDM does not crash the system.

So i'm re-opening this bug. And marking the two other bugs as duplicates of
this one.
Can someone please verify that compiz+fusion with gutsy +
fast-user-switching-applet works for them ?
And if so, what is the graphics card used?

[Bug 135889] Unable to change number of available workspaces with desktop effects enabled

2007-08-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This doesn't look like #94871 or #105587, as I don't have the compiz
cube enabled.

After installing gutsy, I had desktop effects enabled by default. I
expected to be able to change the number of available workspaces by
right-clicking the workspace pager and selecting "Properties." This
option would only appear there once I disabled desktop effects via the
Appearance prefs panel.

Re: [Bug 135792] Re: rhythmbox does not use the http_proxy, freezes

2007-08-30 Thread Philipp Kohlbecher
I can confirm that setting the proxy settings with
gnome-network-preferences works.

There is still the issue with the freeze, though. If rhythmbox cannot
connect to an Internet radio station, it should fail gracefully.

Should I file this as another bug or will you re-open this one?

Thanks for your quick reply!

[Bug 135650] Re: GIMP crashes when trying to resize an image.

2007-08-30 Thread C.Kontros
Sebastien Bacher: "the log seems to be truncated and has no error, did
you get the crash during this run?"

No. That was the output of the log. I'll do another. Like I mentioned on
IRC, I couldn't get it to crash launching it with:

"G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly  valgrind -v --tool=memcheck
--leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log gimp"

It went VERY slow that was it. I can make it crash if I create a new
image or resize _ANYTHING_. Canvas, layer or image. This happens when
launching it from the menu or via CLI.

Attached is another log where things work other than being slow. There's
a difference somewhere. I just can't track it down. ion_ on #ubuntu-
devel is having this same issue.

First off this is my first time using Linux. I've only just installed
  Ubuntu 2 weeks ago.

It worked fine so far. The only setting I changed was to 'Enable Desktop
Effects'. It still worked fine for 1 week.
Today however I selected a 2nd workspace when Updates were being downloaded
and the lower toolbar disappeared! I then changed the screen resolution (only
god know why!) and as I had previously clicked on 'enabled desktop effects' a
week ago I tried to unenable them. The Upper toolbar then disappeared!

- I know don't know how to access the various programs on Ubuntu.
+ I now don't know how to access the various programs on Ubuntu.

Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.
