[Bug 138366] Re: Login Screen Lacks Alterable Keyboard Layout Option

2007-09-08 Thread Roel Huybrechts
Similar bugs have been reported to the developers of GDM:
* the default keyboard should be the default keyboard for gdm:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414571
* Provide a means to change the keyboard layout from gdm login screen?:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307926

I added this report as a comment of that last bug.

[Bug 138366] Login Screen Lacks Alterable Keyboard Layout Option

2007-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I chose Dvorak as my keyboard layout during installation. Now I can use
Dvorak everywhere including the login screen. I really like it.

Now, if multiple users want to use my laptop (this hasn't occurred to me
yet), shouldn't they be able to type their passwords using their own
keyboard layouts?

How about letting the user click on his/her username (just like Fedora
7's login screen [1]) and loading each person's keyboard layout settings
automatically?

[Bug 134134] Re: [gutsy] no default application for ogg files

2007-09-08 Thread GabrielGrant
A couple notes: First, as of today's daily desktop live image, this is
still a problem...are we expecting to merge the upstream patch before
beta freeze?

Second, does the patch also address .spx files? "fables_01_01_aesop.spx"
from the Examples directory on the live cd throws the same error when
double-clicked. If the patch was already included upstream and this
wasn't addressed, I suppose I should open a new bug.

Thanks,
-Gabriel

[Bug 138359] Re: Rythym Box Stops playing

2007-09-08 Thread kwan
Sorry, but the above description is a copy of a previously reported bug
that was not responded to in 15 days, so removed. I am also
experiencing this exact same bug with Ubuntu 7.04 and Rythym Box
0.10.0-Oubuntu2.

At the time this happened (not that I think it should matter?) I had
multiple copies of Firefox open, and Synapitc open.

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-08 Thread amano
This would be great, if it could be included for Gutsy.

Since it just adds a protocol, regressions don't seem to be probable.

Maybe Sebastien should consider this patch for inclusion since it fixes
a big regression because up until Edgy Eft dragging and dropping files
from FileRoller to the desktop at least partly worked. For all those
switching from the Dapper LTS this would be a new regression.

And yeah, thanks for your patch, Amos. Sometimes wonders DO happen.

This happens for me with Gutsy Tribe 5, it shows two items and then a

[Bug 138318] gnome-sound-properties hangs will error message

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I'm using Gutsy daily live CD on a Dell Inspiron 6400 with the following
audio hw: HDA Intel on SigmaTel STAC9200 chipset.

When running System -> Preferences -> Sound or the gnome-sound-
properties command, after hitting "Test" on "Sound Capture" with ALSA
selected as an option the program freezes for a moment and then shows an
error dialogue reading: "Failed to construct test pipeline for
'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink
profile=chat'"

Not a lot of information in the command line either:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gnome-sound-properties
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found
Killed

How do I enable more debug output? I can then send you more info.

[Bug 138346] sound juicer produces bad MP4/AAC audio files with non-standard encoding options

2007-09-08 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

[This applies to latest Gutsy as well, but the files below were made on
Feisty, due to a crasher bug in editing profiles currently on Gutsy
(unresolved)]

I was able to produce great files that worked flawlessy on my iPod and
in vlc using icedax + faac. However, sound-juicer (gstreamer?) produces
incorrect files. I can attach both if you like. For the files, I
wanted to produce something that conserved a lot of space, but were
still valid to AAC specs. The audio data is voice for an audiobook, so
to save as much space as possible, i ripped the CD in mono with 22,050
KHz sampling rate.

Here is how I did it with sound-juicer using a custom profile...

Profile name: Audiobooks (aac)
Profile description: Voice quality audio
Gstreamer pipeline: audio/x-raw-int,rate=22050,channels=1 ! faac bitrate=32768
! ffmux_mp4
File extension: m4a
Active: [CHECKED]

And how I made a proper AAC file using command line tools...

$ icedax -m -a 2 -B -L 0 -paranoia -D /dev/cdrom
$ faac -b 32 --artist 'Dale Carnegie' --album 'How to Win Friends and Influence
People' --track '1/4' --title 'How this book was written -- and why' --disc
'1/8' --year '1988' -o 'audio_01.m4a' audio_01.wav

I have attached both files...

[Bug 37785] Re: Apple media keyboard eject key only opens cd tray, doesn't close it

2007-09-08 Thread Andrew Flegg
This also affects non-Apple hardware using an eject key.

gnome-volume-manager no longer (in Feisty) supports the eject_command
key, and gnome-mount is hardcoded to use "eject". However, it doesn't
specify a path.

Therefore a workaround is to have an executable shell script in your
path ahead of /usr/bin, called 'eject' containing '/usr/bin/eject -T'.

gnome-mount should be fixed, however, to either pass -T or be
customisable.

[Bug 138343] evince consumes a lot of memory (1.5 GB VM)

2007-09-08 Thread Sebastian Urban
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:

1. open
http://www.physik.tu-muenchen.de/lehrstuehle/T39/T39_files/Lectures_files/QuantumMechanics2007/QM07_Kap7.pdf
2. add "zoom in" and "zoom out" buttons to your toolbar (i'm not sure if this
is really needed, but I reproduced the problem in this way)
3. switch on continous-mode
4. scroll (slowly) to the bottom of the document
5. click on "zoom in" till zoom level reaches 200 %
6. scroll (slowly) to the top of the document

result:
evince consumes about 1,5 GB vm-memory (600 mb writeable).
system becomes very slow.

If the steps do not work for you, try zooming in and out again.
I verified this with compiz running, 1 GB physical RAM, 2 GB swap.

[Bug 116464] Re: "Display brightness" slider does not show up on Dell Latitude D810

2007-09-08 Thread Shadows_Friend
I think my problem is located in the fact that there I have no real
ACPI-support for my Acer-model. The brightness control via the hotkeys
seems to be done by the BIOS not by any ACPI-event. Even the available
"acer-acpi" module doesn't support my Travelmate C200 series notebook. I
hardly have access to ACPI-functions via the proc filesystem. I only get
following answers if i try to access any of the ACPI-stuff:

#cat ./acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness

So it can be concluded that it is an issue of ACPI-support. Maybe the
other people affected can confirm this?

[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL. (fix for gutsy)

2007-09-08 Thread Alex Muntada
/var/lib/dpkg/info/dbus.postinst assumes that old priorities were always
20:

# fix rc symlink priorities for upgrades from older versions
if [ "$1" = configure ] && dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt-nl 1.0.2-1ubuntu3;
then
echo "Fixing up startup script priorities..."
for l in 2 3 4 5; do
old=/etc/rc$l.d/S20dbus
new=/etc/rc$l.d/S12dbus
if [ -e $old ] && ! [ -e $new ]; then
mv $old $new
fi
done
fi

However, in my case the rc2.d priority was 50 (don't ask me why), so I
removed all the dbus symlinks:

localhost# update-rc.d -f dbus remove
Removing any system startup links for /etc/init.d/dbus ...
   /etc/rc0.d/K20dbus
   /etc/rc1.d/K20dbus
   /etc/rc2.d/S50dbus
   /etc/rc3.d/S12dbus
   /etc/rc4.d/S12dbus
   /etc/rc5.d/S12dbus
   /etc/rc6.d/K20dbus

Then, I just remade them using the command from the last section of
dbus.postinst:

localhost# update-rc.d dbus multiuser 12 20
Adding system startup for /etc/init.d/dbus ...
   /etc/rc1.d/K20dbus -> ../init.d/dbus
   /etc/rc2.d/S12dbus -> ../init.d/dbus
   /etc/rc3.d/S12dbus -> ../init.d/dbus
   /etc/rc4.d/S12dbus -> ../init.d/dbus
   /etc/rc5.d/S12dbus -> ../init.d/dbus

Then rebooted and now all the troubles about hal, dhcdbd, etc. are gone.

So I guess that dbus.postinst should not assume the old priority value.

[Bug 138264] the list mode doen't work well with shell variables

2007-09-08 Thread Miguel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zenity

Please describe the problem:
The other day trying to make a little script using zenity I found that the list
mode doesn't expand well shell varibles. It's easier to explain with a example.
If you do:

<< zenity --title="Test" --list --column="" --radiolist --text "Choose an
option" --column="OPTIONS" false "go shopping" false "go party" >>

Everything goes well. But if you do:

<< test=`echo false \"go shopping\" false \"go party\"`
zenity --title="Test" --list --column="" --radiolist --text "Choose an option"
--column="OPTIONS" $test >>

The options showed by the program are incomplete. I've asked in some phorums on
the Internet and nobody has been able to answer me. After a little bit of
checking I think it's a bug, I've tried to find it and fix it but I get lost in
the code.

Steps to reproduce:
1. test=`echo false \"go shopping\" false \"go party\"`
zenity --title="Test" --list --column="" --radiolist --text "Choose an option"
--column="OPTIONS" $test

Actual results:
The list that Zenity shows is wrong.

Expected results:
I would expect to find a list with complete sentences, not splited ones.

Does this happen every time?
At least in the four computers I have used to try it.

[Bug 67876] Re: [network-admin] ipw2200/Intel 2915abg Wireless 128-bit WEP doesn't work, must set up manually

2007-09-08 Thread john_gabriel
Just wanted to point out that I experienced a similar problem with
"Limited or no connectivity" that was caused by not being able to renew
my computer IP address dynamically. Having used all the default options,
I was desparate so resorted to experimentation to isolate the problem. I
found that when using WEP, my netgear wireless adapter would only work
with 64 bit encryption. This was originally set to 128 bit. This is ALL
I changed and since then everything has been working fine. I suspect
this is probably a windows bug but noticed that others have experienced
similar problems with other wireless card firmware. Consequently I am
unsure still where the real problem lies. If anyone finds out, I would
be interested to know. Thanks.

[Bug 129925] Re: VCD protocol source plugin not installed

2007-09-08 Thread Steve na Martha
I have the same problem!

Put a VCD in the drive, Totem launches then gives the error message "VCD
protocol source plugin not installed."

I'm also on Gutsy with all updates installed as of today. Totem is
2.19.90 and about shows GStreamer 0.10.14

[Bug 133915] Re: Hexadecimal input is not intuitive

2007-09-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
new upstream comment

"There is now a proposed solution to this for gcalctool for GNOME
2.21/22.

There are two currently open bugs involved here:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455889
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469245

(and an old one - bug #118826).

Before 24th September 2003, hexadecimal input used to be "a" - "f".

This was changed to "A" - "F" because of bug #118826
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118826

The plan now is to change them back to "a" - "f".

There are a set of other functions where the keyboard shortcut will
be reverted to their original (pre Sept 2003) upper case values:

[A] - Set accuracy
[C] - Change sign
[D] - Double-declining depreciation
[E] - Enter an exponential number
[F] - User-defined functions

With copy/paste operations, where the user is pasting a string into
gcalctool, the copy buffer will be iterated over. If an "A", "B", "C",
"D" or "F" character is encountered, it will be converted to its
lowercase equivalent. If an "E" is found, and the next character is a
"-" or a "+", then it remains as an upper case "E" (it's assumed to be
a possible exponential number), otherwise its converted to a lower case "e".

Displaying of hex digits in the gcalctool display should still be
in uppercase. Displaying of the "e" in an exponential number should
still be in lower-case.

In both left-to-right precedence and arithmetic precedence modes, if
the user tries to enter a numeric digit that is incorrect for the
current numeric base, then this shouldn't be allowed. This is already
the case for left-to-right precedence.

The gcalctool documentation (and tooltips) will be updated to reflect
these changes.

I think that covers everything raised in bug #455889 and bug #469245.
If I've missed anything, or you see any problem with this proposed
solution, please let me know.

When the gcalctool 5.20.0 release is out the way, and the code has been
branched, I'll start looking at what's needed to make these changes."

[Bug 133668] Re: main menu

2007-09-08 Thread Jérôme Guelfucci
Thank you, I could reproduce this with your explanations! I'm marking
this as triaged and will forward upstream.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-main-menu

Go to: System > Preferences > Main Menu
On the left column (Menus), at bottom under System:
  - Click and hold Administration
- - Move it just a little, like if you were going to drag it somewhere, but
only a few pixels and still within the left column, and then let go of it.
- Even if you move it back to where it was, it still disappears from that list
and from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
+ - Drag it somewhere without dropping it, then still without dropping it, move
it to the original place and then drop it.
+
+ It still disappears from that list and from the menu bar at the top of the
screen.
This may also be caused by moving it in the right column as well.

Problem is fixable by the following solution:
  - Edit ~/.config/menus/settings.menu:
  - Delete the following section:

  Administration
  Administration/Administration

Or deleting , and everything inside those tags (if it
  differs)

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

[Bug 136812] gutsy upgrade broke keyboard layout

2007-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgraded to gutsy a week or 2 back from feisty, and I use a belgian
keyboard.

It has always worked until today, somehow yesterday's upgrade broke the
keyboard (in gnome only)
If i hit alt F1 and checked the keyboard it was azerty as it should, but in
gnome it defaulted back to us english.

A simple setting in keyboard preferences fixes it, but still, it should
not break after an upgrade.
