Hasn't happened since i installed gutsy, but perhaps that's because Compiz here's pretty limited... Noticed a few other problems with Gutsy, including the fact that if i had desktop enabled, i wouldn't see anything in an OpenProject window.. Else, that specific problem disappeared with my upgrade, although that may only be because i haven't installed Beryl on it... [Bug 144692] Panel moves to center of screen when not expanded
You have been subscribed to a public bug: uname -a Linux thor 2.6.22-11-generic #1 SMP Mon Sep 17 03:45:58 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux Last update installed a new kernel, but when I rebooted everything crashed. I gave up clicking create crash report after about 20 prompts, rebooted into previous kernel, apt-get update/upgrade, rebooted and all crashed again. Rebooted into previous kernel again and now if I go into panel properties and stop the panel from expanding, it moves to the center of the screen. Ok the untranslated string is in gnome-panel instead of Nautilus. Nautilus has the same string correctly translated. French does include the translation, but some other languages like Finnish and Spanish do not. The string is simply missing from the language pack. The translations are included eg. in the gnome-panel-2.20.0.1 source package, so either it's just that for some reason French translation reached Rosetta earlier and some other not, or there is some problem importing or such. It is not working now, just it happens every now and then. And I've seen this happen on other people's computers. It's not a local issue. I recognize this when I see a little man and a door in place of the red exit button in the upper right corner of the gnome desktop. Usually, logging out and in makes it work, but it will not make new users feel all right. Once, it also happened that logging out and in or rebooting didn't help. Then, I had to remove files in /tmp. But the bug I am reporting is about something happening at log in, so that gnome says there is no gconfd, even though gconfd, dbus and friends are running (I reported output of ps aux). I am just calling for a comment on the hig violation I mentioned, that closing a window should not cause an object in the panel to disappear. For what I understand about tray icons and the intended behavior of rhythmbox, this application shouldn't have a tray icon at all. In any case, I don't think it can be denied that current behavior is unconsistent with all other applications, and this is another indication that the tray icon is not appropriate in this application, which is meant to behave like a single window app, not like a background daemon. Seeing an icon in the tray we expect a background daemon, and this is an usability problem. Hi There, This is my first posting on one of these, I'd like to add that I have this issue with the following setup: nvidia drivers, gdm running on Ubuntu 7.04 with desktop effects enabled If I disable desktop effects for every user then all works as expected,the problem only occurs with desktop effects enabled e.g. switch user and then your stuck at a black screen for ever ... If i kill the process remotely by ssh'ing to the box then all recovers ... I boot my system normally, but have auto-login enabled in gdm, and some application that increases disk-load a lot, loaded with the session. I think this can cause delays starting gconfd, or creating sockets, so that nautilus does not find the socket at login, and gconf starts later. I've always liked linux mechanisms for dealing with multiple windows. This is not the case anymore since apps are constantly stealing focus. For example, I'm running update manager in the background while composing email in thunderbird. I start typing address, puff, update manager stole focus. Click back to address field and again, update manager is in the front.
