[Bug 145628] Thumbnails not displayed in Nautilus

2007-09-27 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hello! I'm using an up-to-date Gutsy; a few updates ago (I think I saw
something thumbnail-related in the changelists) Nautilus started to
behave strangely:

I have "thumbnail-able" files on the desktop at all times, including
several PDF documents. They have been there for a while, so I'm quite
sure they have already been thumbnailed.

For some reason, the thumbnails are not usually displayed. I haven't
been able to notice exactly when this happens, but at some point I'd
look at the desktop and see that all thumbnail-able files (not only
PDFs) have the "calculating thumbnail" icon. (Again, they are old files,
I'm sure the thumbnail already exists.) They stay like this
indefinitely, until I either (i) click-select one of them, in which case
the selected item gets its thumbnail almost instantly, or (ii) refresh
the Desktop by pressing F5, in which case all icons get their
thumbnails.

I suppose there must be some synchronization issue with the thumbnailing
thread. This doesn't happen with new files (eg, things downloaded by
Firefox get their thumbnails automatically), so it's probably something
that appears only for already-thumbnailed files. (E.g., the thumbnailing
thread doesn't do anything, but the display thread waits for an answer.)

Any hints on where to look for more clues?

[Bug 145434] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-09-27 Thread Will
I followed the DebuggingProgramCrash instructions, installed the
nautilus-dbgsym package, and attempted to start the program via gdb:
wan % gdb nautilus
GNU gdb 6.6-debian
Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
GDB is free software, covered by the GNU General Public License, and you are
welcome to change it and/or distribute copies of it under certain conditions.

This GDB was configured as "i486-linux-gnu"...
"/usr/bin/nautilus": not in executable format: File format not recognized

Strace output?
wan % strace nautilus
execve("/usr/bin/nautilus", ["nautilus"], [/* 42 vars */]) = -1 EFAULT (Bad
address)
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
+++ killed by SIGSEGV (core dumped) +++
Process 6558 detached

Maybe the file format was incorrect?
[mind:~]
wan % file `which nautilus`
/usr/bin/nautilus: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
for GNU/Linux 2.6.8, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

Hmm. What else can I try?

wan % sudo aptitude reinstall nautilus
wan % gdb nautilus
GNU gdb 6.6-debian

GDB is free software, covered by the GNU General Public License, and you are

Aha! Corrupt package maybe?

[Bug 133567] Re: [gutsy] long delay in nautilus on first access to vfat drive

2007-09-27 Thread Xavi Francisco
Same to me here, but I also noticed that the time taken to open the disk
is proportional to the size. So a 1 Gb USB drive takes a few seconds (10
or so) and a 250Gb USB drive takes about 10 minutes to mount. Using HTOP
I could also notice that the kernel process is using 100% of the CPU
while I cannot access the drive. When it stops being at 100% I can start
accessing the drive.

[Bug 145202] Gparted's .desktop file is not using language pack translations

2007-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Bug 145524] Splash screen typo error

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Well, I didn't know if it was right to fill a bug report for a similar thing,
but OTOH I didn't know what could I do at all...
I noticed that the splash screen of the rc2 of The GIMP for my kubuntu Gutsy
contain a typo error: I couldn't believe my eyes and so I tried three times,
but instead of "release candidate" it says "release conadidate".
I don't know if it has any importance, but my selected language is italian.

[Bug 117896] Re: Loses e-mails when moving accross IMAP folders

2007-09-27 Thread Jackal
Hi Guys and Gals

I've recently come across this problem as well. 2 Things:

1. On the mail sending side:
Mail destined for the sent items folder on the IMAP server seem to be randomly
dropped. I've tried as best I can to reproduce but no luck. Another thing I've
noticed is that it doesn't happen just to one specific messages but rather to
all messages sent within a certain time period, this time period is also
completely random as far as I can see. Therefore I doubt this bug is triggered
by the message being sent, seems to almost be a time triggered event.

2. On the mail moving front:
Same thing that Simon has logged, mails being moved either manually or by
filters seem to be copied to the new location and then deleted from the
original.

This is a huge problem for one of my users that receives roughly 500
messages on an average day, and sends out between 200 - 300 messages a
day as well.

I agree with Simon that this bug needs to be bumped up the list of
importance asap!

I wasn't criticising the test case. If I'd seen another more
discoverable way to do it I would probably have clicked on that anyway
to check that it worked.

[Bug 144859] Re: Color schemes can't be disabled

2007-09-27 Thread Daniel
I have now tried disabling syntax highlighting by disabling it with
gconf-editor under apps/gedit-2/preferences/syntax_highlighting. gedit
starts and opens files now without syntax highlighting (as expected),
but the SQL file still leads to gedit freezing. I am now going to
produce a backtrace for you. Hopefully that will work. More coming soon.
