[Bug 150373] Re: creating a 7zip gives error in Gutsy Beta
Unfortunately, the folder that reliably leads to this error message contains business data so I cannot attach it here, but I am still trying to find/setup a folder with arbitrary data that leads to this error message, too. It seems to have something to do with the number of files and the directory structure of the folder to be compressed. I am using file- roller in conjunction with 7z to archive folders that contain Java projects. Java projects naturally do have a deep nested directory strucure with many short files. One folder contains ~1500 files, another one contains ~2500 files. Both result in that error message when compressed. A folder with just 1000 text files and no subdirs, on the other hand, works fine. -- creating a 7zip gives error in Gutsy Beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150373 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 66104] Re: scim: input freezes in various applications under XIM mode
I've found another workaround for those who need to both use SCIM and enter weird European characters. 0. follow workaround 2 in the top post of this thread 1. install scim-uim and uim-latin 2. assign a Compose key if you don't already have one (in KDE this is done through System Settings - Regional and Language - Keyboard Layout - Xkb Options - Compose key position, there's something equivalent in GNOME) 3. restart X 4. turn on SCIM, switch to the input method Other - UIM-Latin 5. press Compose, the character that looks closest to the accent mark you want, then the character you want the mark on top of 6. Pròfït! I poked around the keymap file that UIM-latin uses, and it seems to be in the same format as regular xkbmap keyboard descriptions, so it seems like it should be fairly easy to swap in whatever keymap you want using scim-uim. However, it's 2:30am and I'm not going to try it right now. Hope this helps someone. -- scim: input freezes in various applications under XIM mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/66104 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 156169] Cannot change volume while on logon screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This is more of a request than a bug. But it makes sense that you should be able to change the volume while on the logon screen. Currently my keyboard shortcuts only become active about halfway through the logon procedure, by which time the Ubuntu startup sound has blasted out to the whole room. This shouldn't be too hard to correct I wouldn't have thought, it's just I have no idea what controls the volume from the keyboard otherwise I could change the boot sequence myself. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cannot change volume while on logon screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156169 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 155869] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with IOError in connect()
I'm running gutsy on a laptop, which is not always connected to a network, but as it is most of the time, i've activated the yahoo search plugin (see attached settings dialog). As long as I have a network connection, this works fine, with the network cable pulled, it crashes. Steps to reproduce: 0. make sure the network connection works 1. activate the Yahoo Search plugin 2. open the deskbar search an type your query 3. everything is fine 4. pull the network cable 5. search again 6. Bug Buddy pops up an reports the crash A workaround is to deactivate the plugin if not online, but I think it should just gracefully handle the connection problem as i do not want to change the configuration everytime i go on- or offline. -- deskbar-applet crashed with IOError in connect() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal
Can anyone please explain what exactly has to be done with termcap files in order to actually use them? TD is unreasonably terse which makes it very difficult to decipher the advice that he offers. Please, most people have not had to deal with terminfo or tic before... the last time I saw a bug in a terminal definition it was back in the dark ages of termcap. We don't work with this stuff every day and really need to be told exactly what to do. It's incredibly frustrating to watch people pointing fingers at each other, or debating whether this is really a bug like a bunch of pissy schoolgirls, please everybody if you're not going to bother fixing this problem, can you at least give me the information to fix this myself!?
