bug.

The first few stack frames look similar to bug 103880 though.

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

I had this problem, it was caused by my firewall blocking loopback traffic

After i fixed this and allowed all loopback traffic, gnome loaded properly

I tested to see if this was the problem by pinging 127.0.0.1 and seeing
that it wasn't working.

hope this helps.

[Bug 146731] Re: [Gutsy] Translation problems with the unlock screen

2007-10-23 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Ok, the latest templates in Rosetta for gnome-screensaver resolve the
problem, ie. if you download fully translated PO file from Rosetta now,
and overwrite the MO file in the language pack directory, the whole
dialog is translated.

Thus marking Fix Committed, and this will be fixed when new language
packs are released for 7.10 (for those language that have gnome-
screensaver package fully translated).

[Bug 150373] Re: creating a 7zip gives error in Gutsy Beta

2007-10-23 Thread CKX
Unfortunately, the folder that reliably leads to this error message
contains business data so I cannot attach it here, but I am still trying
to find/setup a folder with arbitrary data that leads to this error
message, too.

It seems to have something to do with the number of files and the
directory structure of the folder to be compressed. I am using file-
roller in conjunction with 7z to archive folders that contain Java
projects. Java projects naturally do have a deep nested directory
strucure with many short files. One folder contains ~1500 files, another
one contains ~2500 files. Both result in that error message when
compressed. A folder with just 1000 text files and no subdirs, on the
other hand, works fine.

[Bug 123282] Re: LDAP fails. Says it can't find the server, but the server is there and spelled correctly. Works in Windows. Problem is probably with the authentifiaction.

2007-10-23 Thread Adam Barbary
LDAP was causing me heaps of problems, but the Bug is not specific to
Ubuntu. It appears that a plugin in Evolution (installed by default) is
at fault. It is highly likely that your LDAP settings are fine, you just
need to disable the Exchange Operations plugin. To do this, click Edit,
then Plugins, and then unmark the Exchange Operations plugin. Exit, and
restart Evolution.

Cheers,

Joe Bloggs

[Bug 156159] gnome panel works badly

2007-10-23 Thread vanderhill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Changing preferences on the workxpaces doesn't work, when you change of
workspace the desktop is hidden and you can't do anything with the
computer, even if you go back (using the top left corner with the mouse)
to your first workspace there is no desktop to work with. This worked
perfectly with feisty. Btw, I installed Gutsy using upgrade manager.

[Bug 66104] Re: scim: input freezes in various applications under XIM mode

2007-10-23 Thread LogicalDash
I've found another workaround for those who need to both use SCIM and
enter weird European characters.

0. follow workaround 2 in the top post of this thread
1. install scim-uim and uim-latin
2. assign a Compose key if you don't already have one (in KDE this is done
through System Settings - Regional and Language - Keyboard Layout - Xkb
Options - Compose key position, there's something equivalent in GNOME)
3. restart X
4. turn on SCIM, switch to the input method Other - UIM-Latin
5. press Compose, the character that looks closest to the accent mark you want,
then the character you want the mark on top of
6. Pròfït!

I poked around the keymap file that UIM-latin uses, and it seems to be
in the same format as regular xkbmap keyboard descriptions, so it seems
like it should be fairly easy to swap in whatever keymap you want using
scim-uim. However, it's 2:30am and I'm not going to try it right now.

Hope this helps someone.

[Bug 156169] Cannot change volume while on logon screen

2007-10-23 Thread Chris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

This is more of a request than a bug. But it makes sense that you
should be able to change the volume while on the logon screen.
Currently my keyboard shortcuts only become active about halfway through
the logon procedure, by which time the Ubuntu startup sound has blasted
out to the whole room.

This shouldn't be too hard to correct I wouldn't have thought, it's just
I have no idea what controls the volume from the keyboard otherwise I
could change the boot sequence myself.

[Bug 156013] Re: No Sound from Speakers, but Headphones work

2007-10-23 Thread Suger
Well, same problem here on a VAIO VGN TZ11MN

lspci -nn | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller [8086:27d8] (rev 02)

What's funny is that with 7.04, plugin in the headphones did not mute
the speakers, and now, speakers are always muted, whatever you tweak in
alsamixer.

I'd rather see this as a bug with alsa than with gnome-session, but who
am I to tell ?

[Bug 155869] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with IOError in connect()

2007-10-23 Thread René Brandenburger
I'm running gutsy on a laptop, which is not always connected to a
network, but as it is most of the time, i've activated the yahoo search
plugin (see attached settings dialog). As long as I have a network
connection, this works fine, with the network cable pulled, it crashes.

Steps to reproduce:
0. make sure the network connection works
1. activate the Yahoo Search plugin
2. open the deskbar search an type your query
3. everything is fine
4. pull the network cable
5. search again
6. Bug Buddy pops up an reports the crash

A workaround is to deactivate the plugin if not online, but I think it
should just gracefully handle the connection problem as i do not want to
change the configuration everytime i go on- or offline.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-10-23 Thread steviant
Can anyone please explain what exactly has to be done with termcap files
in order to actually use them? TD is unreasonably terse which makes it
very difficult to decipher the advice that he offers.

Please, most people have not had to deal with terminfo or tic before...
the last time I saw a bug in a terminal definition it was back in the
dark ages of termcap. We don't work with this stuff every day and really
need to be told exactly what to do.

It's incredibly frustrating to watch people pointing fingers at each
other, or debating whether this is really a bug like a bunch of pissy
schoolgirls, please everybody if you're not going to bother fixing this
problem, can you at least give me the information to fix this myself!?

Terminfo and tic are incredibly poorly documented to the point that
hours of googling has failed to turn up a single example of an
invocation of tic. Given the poor state of support and documentation can
I suggest that ubuntu upgrade to /etc/termcap?

[Bug 156212] Changing screensaver crashes X

[Bug 156215] Since upgrading to 7.10, Keyring goes into endless loop prompting for password.

2007-10-23 Thread drekka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring-manager

I used to keyring manager on 7.04 to manager the wireless lan password.
Every time I started the computer and it contacted the LAN I would be
promted once and only once for the keyring password.

Since updating to 7.10 the keyring manage now goes into a loop,
repeatedly prompting for the keyring password until I click deny. Any
further management of the connection starts the prompting loop up again.
It's as if the keyring manager forgets the password and needs to
reprompt for it.

[Bug 156226] Screen is not locked when laptop lid is closed

2007-10-23 Thread Marko Djukic
Public bug reported:

On Gutsy, just recently upgraded from Feisty, I have the screensaver set
to lock screen in System - Preferences - Screensaver.

When I close the laptop lid the screen is blanked, however when opened
again it is not locked. It does lock when the screensaver time is
reached (eg. on mine after 10min).

This is a regression from Feisty where this worked perfectly: as soon as
the lid was closed the screen would be locked.

It looks something similar to this bug:

[Bug 156232] -c option in manual but not recognized since updated Feisty - Gutsy

2007-10-23 Thread Russel Winder
Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy and now the -c option is not
recognized by GIMP:

| gimp -c
Unknown option -c
|

However, the manual states:

   -c, --console-messages
Do not popup dialog boxes on errors or warnings. Print the
messages on the console instead.

[Bug 156242] Editor: when changing Sending mail/Server Type, IMAP Headers tab is duplicated

2007-10-23 Thread hggdh
Public bug reported:

I was looking at Account Editor due to another bug, when I hit this one:

1.Go to Edit/Preferences, edit an IMAP account.
2. select the Sending Mail tab, and change the Server Type (in my case, from
SMTP to sendmail).

A new IMAP Headers tab is created at the right of the panel.

3. change again the server type.

Another IMAP headers tab is created at the right of the panel.
