[Bug 161966] gcalctool have no color on buttons

2007-11-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I use Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

In gcalctool, there are no color on buttons, all color are same.
On Windows calculator, they have red and blue colors on button, to make them
look different, so its easier to use.
Example numerical buttons 0-9 have one color, while function buttons such as
*/+- have another color.

[Bug 146946] Re: [gutsy] Gnome settings daemon does randomly not work

2007-11-11 Thread Martin Soto
I was having this problem consistently after rebooting. My first login
attempt after a reboot would always fail with the the dreaded "There was
an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon" message box. Logging out
and logging in again always solved the problem, but it was quite
annoying anyway.

The good news is, I managed to work around the problem by deleting
(renaming actually) my ~/.gnome2/session file. This would point to
gnome-session as the actual culprit in this case, instead of the real-
time kernel. The kernel, however, may still have something to do,
because this problem is most probably caused by a race condition during
session startup (the fact that it is intermittent, as well as the fact
that it didn't affect me on a second login with a warm cache, both
suggest it.) A different scheduler will potentially affect process
execution order during session startup, and may increase/decrease the
chances of this race condition actually triggering.

If you are having this problem, could you please try renaming/deleting
your session file and report here your results?

Some additional info about my setup: I'm running a Gutsy installation
(upgraded recently from Feisty.) I use the real-time kernel from Gutsy,
but this problem didn't start when I installed it. The problem was
apparently caused by me fiddling with my desktop configuration: I was
playing with Awn and changed my panel and theme configuration many times
in a few days.

[Bug 161998] ekiga should add support for speex ultra-wideband (32 kHz sampling rate)

2007-11-11 Thread ubuntu_demon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

ekiga should add support for speex ultra-wideband (32 kHz sampling rate)

ekiga only supports speex wideband (16 kHz sampling rate) and speex narrowband
(telephone quality, 8 kHz sampling rate). You can also see here that ekiga only
supports these two :
http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Advanced_Settings

Speex is part of the GNU Project. The Speex designers see their project
as complementary to the Vorbis general-purpose audio compression
project.

[Bug 126333] Re: [GUTSY] Regression - Volume Control Bar doesn't slide when using keyboard shortcut

2007-11-11 Thread RobPower
I can confirm it on Kubuntu 7.10 (upgraded from 7.04).
If I use Fn Key down it shows the popup volume bar going down till 0%, but
doesn't affect the volume.
If I use Fn Key Up, it shows the popup volume bar, but that bar can't go upper
than 11% volume, and doesn't affect the real volume.
If I use Fn Mute Key it shows the right popup ("mute activated"/"mute
deactivated") but it doesn't affect the volume.

I have Compix installed but actually not running.
Please help, it's an annoying bug..
If any log i s needed just ask.
Thank you and good work.

[Bug 162015] cdbs requires aclocal.m4 to be present in order to generate it

2007-11-11 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cdbs

My version of cdbs is the standard for Ubuntu 7.10 (0.4.49ubuntu2).
When wanting to run aclocal from cdbs, for example by setting:

DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_ACLOCAL = 1.10

it is required that the file aclocal.m4 is already present, otherwise
aclocal does not run. I find that behaviour quite strange, because the
purpose of calling aclocal is to generate that file. This piece of logic
is found in the file /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/autotools-files.mk:

 if [ -e $(DEB_SRCDIR)/aclocal.m4 ]; then cd $(DEB_SRCDIR) &&
aclocal-$(DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_ACLOCAL) $$m4; fi

I consider this a mis-behaviour if not a bug.

[Bug 48679] Re: Birthdays before 1969 shows as birthdays in the future 2000+

2007-11-11 Thread Simon Hepburn
After a bit of playing around with some test contacts it's obvious what
Evolution's Birthdays & Anniversarys Calendar is doing with birthdates
- anyone born before 1970 has the same age regardless of year they were
born and is assumed to have been born in 1970. Attached screenshot
shows 3 test contacts born 11th Nov in 1937, 1947 and 1957. Birthdates
stored in EDS by Evo were corrected from 2037, 2047 and 2057 using Open
Hand's Contacts. Evolution Calendar erroneously shows all three having
the same age. GBirthday shows their correct age as calculated from
birthdates stored in EDS.

Is this a symptom of the same bug or should it be reported separately?

Will copy upstream.

when I close amsn (with the X button, not right clicking and then exit)
amsn is supossed to minimize to the bottom panel, but instead the icon
dissaperas and I can't reopen it unless I restart the computer, lately I
discovered that it appers again if I change the position of the panel
(to the left right or up) and then put it back down where I use it.

[Bug 126333] Re: [GUTSY] Regression - Volume Control Bar doesn't slide when using keyboard shortcut

2007-11-11 Thread Niosop
On one of my Kubuntu 7.10 installs, reinstalling a variety of packages
fixed the problem. I just started reinstalling in alphabetical order,
and did about 20 packages. It may only affect 7.04-7.10 upgrades and
not new installs. I have a second install exhibiting the same behavior,
I'll start reinstalling packages on it and see which one fixes it.

[Bug 161750] Re: gnome freezes, keyboard, mouse moves but useless, icons do not work

2007-11-11 Thread roboghast

I solved it - I think the problem occured when I change the icons from the
gnome-look website to some cool ones. Here is what I did just in case someone
else is having the same problem maybe it can help you.

1. I followed the instructions on gutsy on the power down issue
2. I found a web site that showed how to reset gnome
3. I uninstalled and reinstalled my resticted nvidia driver.

one of these worked,

[Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer

2007-11-11 Thread amano
It is good to see at least some movement here.

But if these efforts come to nothing (possible patches not
accepted,...), I like dark2star's proposal most: If the vlc package is
installed, make vlc the default DVD program.

I think that option should be doable for the Ubuntu team without having
to get involved with upstream things.

Sebastien, would that be doable? At least Totem shouldn't pop up when
inserting a dvd.

[Bug 132772] Re: Uninstalling compiz disables metacity

2007-11-11 Thread Allan MacKinnon
More like the postrm script for the compiz package(s) is either broken
or missing because metacity should be made to take over the wm duties
after compiz is removed.

The command:

metacity --replace

should probably be added to the postrm script if it isn't already.

That's just my uneducated opinion.

[Bug 162111] Evince displays math equations incorrectly

2007-11-11 Thread Israel Vaughn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I am using Evince to view a TexLive compilation of an Optics Express
paper that I am trying to submit in DVI format. The paper displays
correctly in xdvi, but not in Evince. Evince is much better in general
than xdvi, so I would prefer to use it. Evince does not display many
parts of my math equations correctly. It seems to be some kind of font
issue, but I cannot figure out how to fix it.

Perhaps this could be higher priority? Would it not be too difficult to
write a bit of python to offer to install the required two packages

I certainly agree that a dialog saying "Please ask your system

leave many users confused and frustrated!

[Bug 76283] Re: duplicate entries for devices in nautilus desktop

2007-11-11 Thread zugvogel
I just ran into the same feature. I decided to play around a little. In
case my observation can help shed some light on the issue, here they
are:

Background:
I am running Feisty Workstation, with few customization, VMWare server the only
non Ubuntu add-on (observations below were made on the host, not a VM). I have
an external USB disk with two partitions on it. As it is pretty much plugged in
permanently they would ideally result in two additional device icons once the
desktop is fully started up. Here is what I actually saw:

[1] The first time ever I connected the USB drive I got the expected two
icons.

[2] The next time I rebooted the system I got four icons, two for each
partition, both actually connecting to the appropriate file system.

[3] On consecutive reboots, I get two, three, or four icons, most
commonly four, three is the second most often.

[4] When consulting .nautilus/metafiles/x-nautilus-desktop:%2F%2F%2F.xml
(the only file that seems to reference those partitions), I find two
entries for each of the two partitions in question.

[5] Removing the duplicate entries and restarting gdm will "fix" the
problem for the time being for the next restart of gdm or the next
system reboot, but the "fix" does not persist across the next reboot
after. Rather, .nautilus/metafiles/x-nautilus-desktop:%2F%2F%2F.xml
regains the duplicate entries.

[6] If I remove the original entries and keep the duplicates--- ditto.

[7] If I remove all four partition entries--- ditto.

[8] The number of icons shown will vary across restarting gdm; so a full
reboot is _not_ necessary to trigger the problem. If anything restarting
gdm tends to fix the problem (got two icons twice in a row). However, I
haven't tried often enough to consider my sample size valid.

Hope that this is enough of a pattern to get to narrow it down. Let me
know if I can be of help---

[Bug 162123] Poor handling of empty username when connecting to SMB server

2007-11-11 Thread zugvogel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Background:
I am running Feisty Workstation. From nautilus I am trying to connect to a SMB
share on a remote machine. As browsing no longer offers a login prompt when
accessing restricted servers, I am going through the "Connect to Server"
feature.

Observation:
When setting connection parameters in the corresponding dialog, the username is
listed as optional. When I leave it blank, the resulting connect-URL looks like
smb:/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/share, i.e. the username is simply omitted from the
resulting URL.
When I use the resulting connection it works perfect, most likely because my
local login name is the same as the one I want to connect as on the remote
server.
After the next reboot (haven't tried anything less drastic such as restarting
gdm) the connection (saved as an icon on the desktop) no longer works; rather,
it reverts to the default behavior of authenticating me as "nobody".

The bright side:
Doing things right an supplying a username will result in the correct behavior,
even across system restarts.

Please let me know if I can run additional test or provide additional
information.

[Bug 162134] Re: window-list freezes gnome-panel

2007-11-11 Thread PatrickFisher
I can confirm this issue.

I'm running Gutsy on a ThinkPad z61t (x86)

I can reduce the occurrence by setting gnome-panel to always group the
windows. Now it only freezes when I open the eighth application in one
workspace. Closing some windows and running "killall gnome-panel" fixes
the problem. If I do not close any windows, however, gnome-panel will
restart in a frozen state.

I can easily reproduce this bug, so if there is any output I can provide
I'd be happy to do so.
