[Bug 136711] Re: Show Hidden Files broken in common dialogs

2007-11-12 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
I get this on a 100% fresh gutsy install with a slightly different
behaviour. When I follow the steps in the original report, disabling
Show Hidden Files at the end makes the file picker instead show ONLY
hidden files, and only a few of them at that! For this to happen though,
you must have closed and re-opened the file picker after enabling Show
Hidden Files (as directed in the report). I have not encountered the
duplicates from Ryiden's video.

Attached is my own desktop session capture.

Yes, I just figured it out right now.
It happens when a tooltip (say, from the date/time applet) partly obscures the
notification area. When the tooltip goes away, the bug occurs.
Also, it doesn't seem to happen to any notification icons other than amarok's.

[Bug 162313] Cannot change the resize button

2007-11-12 Thread aGeorgo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Metacity (2.20.0-0ubuntu3) allows user to move or resize the window by holding
the "Movement key" (control/alt/super) and one of mouse buttons. Button1 is
mapped to move window, button2 to the window resize and button3 to display
popup menu. This functionality is hardcoded and if user has only two button
mouse he has to emulate the resize button by clicking left+right mouse button,
which is not really easy to do. These buttons behavior should be configurable,
at least for resize window button and popup menu.
I propose a boolean flag "/apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_swap_behaviour"
which will swap the button2 and button3 behaviour if is set to true.

[Bug 154201] Re: Messages which have been opened in Outlook or OWA do not appear in Evolution Inbox - regression

2007-11-12 Thread dooma
That's interesting. It could be something different, or a host of
things. Even though I deleted spam assassin and Razor, I did have the

cause. However since removing those pagckages, the frequencey of this
problem decreased from every hour or so, to only occurring once in a

[Bug 162301] gimp desktop entry should use gimp-remote -n

2007-11-12 Thread Daniel Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

When you right click on an image in nautilus and ask gimp to open the
image, a new instance of gimp is launched for every image. This is
usually not what you want. If you change the TryExec in the
gimp.desktop desktop entry from "gimp-2.4" to "gimp-remote-2.4 -n" this
will cause a new instance of gimp to be started if one doesn't exist,
and if one does exist, open the new image in the same instance.
Apparently, after years and years, "-n" is still undocumented in the man
page for gimp-remote. This is probably also a bug. But -n has been
there since at least 2003. -n is what makes gimp-remote spawn a new
instance of gimp if necessary.

The bug 149972 is reporting that the visual effects tab is buggy: the OK

This bug does is concerned with the fact there is a whole page devoted
to desktop effects and all the radio buttons are active and waiting to
be clicked, when in fact visual effects will not work.

It does not concern the fact the buttons are buggy.

I managed to reproduce the problem by reinstating the session file that
was causing the it. The complete error message I get is:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may
not work correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security
policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time
you log in.

It seems to me that we are dealing with different problems that have
similar symptoms.

I guess you have to save your session to get one. I save my session
automatically when I close, i.e., "System|Preferences|Sessions|Sesion
Options|Automatically remember running applications when logging out" is
checked.

[Bug 162273] Custom Application Launcher does not see user's path.

2007-11-12 Thread Lachlan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Create a new Custom Application Launcher to run eclipse, specifying the
path to the eclipse binary.

When I run it I get this error:
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run Eclipse. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
/home/lachlan/eclipse/jre/bin/java
java in your current PATH

But if run that same binary from the command line, it starts eclipse, no
problem.

I did not export any extra environment settings to the terminal I am
running from.

This was working in Fiesty, and broke after upgrading to Gutsy. I re-
created the launcher, but it has the same result.

[Bug 162270] Rhythmbox can't transfer file with colon (:) in name to VFAT iPod

2007-11-12 Thread Staffan Bruun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I copied tracks from Adiemus II: Cantata Mundi. About half of those have
names containing a colon. These tracks worked fine inside Rhythmbox but
could not be transferred to the iPod. When I tried to drag and drop the
entire album to my iPod, Rhythmbox reported a write error for these
files. The files without a colon in the name were transferred without
problems.

My iPod has a Windows-type file system (VFAT.) My impression is that the
problem is that VFAT does not allow file names with colons in them.

WORKAROUND: Rename all MP3 files (the files, not the MP3 track name
data) so that they do not contain a colon in the name, re-import them to
Rhythmbox and then transfer the files.

[Bug 162268] radial blur is actually rotational blur

2007-11-12 Thread Mark Florian
Public bug reported:

In the Filters -> Motion Blur dialog, you can select one of three types
of blur: Linear, Radial and Zoom. Linear and Zoom blur are pretty much
self-explanatory, but Radial does not give the expected results.

One would expect a radial blur to blur radially (!) - just as the spokes
of a wheel extend radially from the axle.

What this second type of blur actually does is blur in a rotational
manner, as if the image were spun round in its plane. This second blur
type should therefore be named "Rotational" or something similar.

[Bug 154679] Re: Can't mount a LUKS volume after unmounting

2007-11-12 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Same problem here since the upgrade to gutsy. Luks volumes can only be
mounted the first time the device is connected, subsequent attempts fail
with "special device /dev/mapper/luks_crypto_(...) does not exist".

After manually creating the device mapper device, e.g. with

# cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdb3 secure

the /dev/mapper/secure volume is automatically mounted correctly.

I think the problem is also not related to the volume having the same
device name for every connect in gutsy. For me feisty behaved the same
way: my external harddrive was always accessible as /dev/sdb, no matter
how often I reconnected it.

i was having this problem too. but xset s off didn't fix it for me. i
had to put this in my xorg.conf file:

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "blank time" "0"
Option "standby time" "0"
Option "suspend time" "0"
Option "off time" "0"
Option "screen blank" "0"

then i had to restart X. now, the screen never goes blank! gnome-

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, the described behavior isn't a bug: the "or
deleting files" part of that sentence refers to the option below it,
"add a option to remove files without sending them to the trash first"
(it might be called something different, I'm translating from Catalan).

RE: [Bug 162134] Re: window-list freezes gnome-panel

2007-11-12 Thread Hrimhari
Greetings,

I can't confirm that gnome-panel always takes 100% of CPU when it
freezes.

I did once notice that my system decided to be disc-intensive and I
figured it was the frozen gnome-panel doing it for an unknown reason. I
figured that a disc intensive process would probably also be CPU
intensive, so I ran "top" and found the gnome-panel eating CPU. I then
found out that it was frozen again, so I killall'ed it and the problem
went away.

In any case, my system remains usable when gnome-panel freezes. It's
just that I can't start anything that depends on the panel, so if I
don't have an open terminal, I need to go to the console to do anything
related to launching an application.

IMHO, there are two related problems to be fixed:

1. Fix the freeze when window-list can't acomodate more windows in its
limited space (add scroll buttons?), and

2. Make the window-list properly use its available space instead of
always taking the hard coded minimum size also as maximum size.

It looks like someone decided to remove the size settings on window-list
because they were a bad workaround to this problem but forgot to fix the
problem itself.

Best regards,
Felipe

Re: [Bug 151544] Re: [Gutsy] GNOME takes too much time to load during system boot

2007-11-12 Thread Balaji
I confirm this too.

In my case, restarting after one successful boot will surely hang. The
gnome-panel does not come up, some services take too long and it is simply
unknown as to how we can debug this problem at all since even after
Ctrl+Alt+F1 I only get a blank screen and no login prompt or shell at all.

This problem is very critical and the severity level of this problem needs
to be raised to "Very high" immediately. I have been using Ubuntu since the
Dapper days. I don't have Windows on my machine at all. With this bug in, I
want to go back to using Microsoft Windows and pay for the licenses. I don't
want unreliability. An upgrade should make things better, not worse.

"Behaviour", but Nautilus directly moves files to trash if i hit "del"
or choose the right-click menu option.

Reproduce:
1. If its not yet enabled, enable "Ask before emptying the Trash or deleting
files" in File Management Preferences > Behaviour.
2. Either mark a file in nautilus and hit "del" or right click and choose the
moove to trash option.

Expected:
Nautilus should bring up an confirmation diaglog
