[Bug 164942] ekiga crashes in tinyjpeg_idct_float, dell inspiron 1720
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ekiga This is happening quite often for me: when I run Ekiga, it segfaults during startup. This seemed to start happening after I tried to make a video call to another Ekiga account, connected on the same LAN behind a NAT router. This action caused Ekiga to crash, and I noticed that if I restarted Ekiga shortly afterwards, it would crash on startup. Prior to this crashing behaviour, I successfully made several test calls to sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] without incident. It was only after attempting to call another Ekiga SIP account that this problem started happening. Ubuntu version is 7.10, x86_64, freshly installed on a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. Software is up-to-date as of Sat 24 Nov, with all repositories enabled (including proposed-updates and backports). Ekiga version is 2.0.11-1ubuntu1 In order to get sound working on this laptop, I installed linux-backports-modules-generic. In an attempt to fix webcam issues with Skype, I compiled and installed (from latest svn trunk) the uvcvideo kernel module. In order to get my webcam to work in Ekiga, I have to choose the V4L2 video plugin - the default V4L does not work at all on this system. This problem appears to be very similar to Bug #128481, which is reportedly fixed. I will attach more detailed info, including backtraces which I got by following the instructions found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Nov 25 01:14:03 2007 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/ekiga NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: ekiga 2.0.11-1ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcCmdline: ekiga ProcCwd: /home/ll ProcEnviron: PATH=/home/ll/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: ekiga Uname: Linux ll-laptop 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 21:45:15 GMT 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Affects: ekiga (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- ekiga crashes in tinyjpeg_idct_float, dell inspiron 1720 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for ekiga in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 132833] Jürgen's patch works
Sebastian: I am confused by your comments: Could people stop to apply such workaround? you are breaking next upgrades this way but will probably not notice for some time until the configuration change in the package and then you will wondering why the upgrades are broken Which workarounds are you talking about? The reason is there are two sets of solutions people are proposing. One is simply to set the value of BACKCOLOR, and the second one is Jürgen's fix. Isn't the gdmflexiserver the problem? Jürgen's fix @ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/132833/comments/11 replaces every gdmflexiserver with gdmflexiserver -a. [Bug 164359] Re: [hardy] cannot install xubuntu-desktop
Sebastien: xfwm4 works with gtk = 2.11.6 since the 4.4.1-2ubuntu2, not the 4.4.1-3. The xfwm4 merge is a fix, but not the real one (the conflict in the gtk package remains wrong); that's why I called this a workaround. [Bug 146412] Re: gnome-screensaver-dialog never shows up
Thanks for the tip! It wasn't in fact the same issue, but just looking at /etc/pam.d and /var/log/auth.log helped me getting to the root of this. While running Feisty I added the line @include common-pamkeyring to /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver to enable automatic WPA authentication after resuming from hibernate. In Gutsy common-pamkeyring isn't available, which caused gnome-screensaver to fail. It should've failed in a more graceful manner, of course, but removing the extra line from /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver made things work again. (I'll have to check.) Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't care about being able to use MP4 audio. Neither does it mean that I think MP4 audio an unimportant format strategically. It's merely that I've realized that it's better to make other arrangements for encoding. (Of course, the same may apply to others who haven't even bothered to subscribe.) At least playback is there, and even if encoding could be done I doubt anyone's going to compete on quality with either Nero's AAC encoder or the one that QuickTime 7.3 is using, anyway. Perhaps any Ubuntu users who aren't dual-booting and who are frustrated by this issue might try encoding to a lossless format, such as FLAC, instead. They could then transcode from FLAC to AAC using Foobar2000 whenever they could get access to a Windows machine quite easily provided Nero's codec was installed. [Bug 164296] [gutsy] Nautilus Places lists mounted RAID mirrors twice
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On gutsy/amd64 (2.6.22-14-generic) with dmraid mirror, Nautilus (2.20.0) lists mounted RAID mirrors twice. This applies equally to Places and the main panel when Computer is selected. It seems like Nautilus is violating layering by looking at the underlying block devices in /dev, not finding them in /etc/mtab and listing them with the RAID filesystem label. The Nautilus device listing should, at least, be configurable such that these can be suppressed. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gutsy] Nautilus Places lists mounted RAID mirrors twice https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164296 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 59616] Re: keyboard not working after logging in via gdm
I'm having this issue as well, but on Kubuntu Gutsy (32 bit)! I suspect that it's probably an X thing.
