[Bug 164942] ekiga crashes in tinyjpeg_idct_float, dell inspiron 1720

2007-11-25 Thread Lambros Lambrou
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

This is happening quite often for me: when I run Ekiga, it segfaults
during startup. This seemed to start happening after I tried to make a
video call to another Ekiga account, connected on the same LAN behind a
NAT router. This action caused Ekiga to crash, and I noticed that if I
restarted Ekiga shortly afterwards, it would crash on startup.

Prior to this crashing behaviour, I successfully made several test calls
to sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] without incident. It was only after attempting to
call another Ekiga SIP account that this problem started happening.

Ubuntu version is 7.10, x86_64, freshly installed on a Dell Inspiron 1720
laptop.
Software is up-to-date as of Sat 24 Nov, with all repositories enabled
(including proposed-updates and backports).
Ekiga version is 2.0.11-1ubuntu1

In order to get sound working on this laptop, I installed
linux-backports-modules-generic.
In an attempt to fix webcam issues with Skype, I compiled and installed (from
latest svn trunk) the uvcvideo kernel module.
In order to get my webcam to work in Ekiga, I have to choose the V4L2 video
plugin - the default V4L does not work at all on this system.

This problem appears to be very similar to Bug #128481, which is
reportedly fixed. I will attach more detailed info, including
backtraces which I got by following the instructions found here:

[Bug 132833] Jürgen's patch works

2007-11-25 Thread Infodroid
Sebastian:

I am confused by your comments: Could people stop to apply such
workaround? you are breaking next upgrades this way but will probably
not notice for some time until the configuration change in the package
and then you will wondering why the upgrades are broken

Which workarounds are you talking about? The reason is there are two
sets of solutions people are proposing. One is simply to set the value
of BACKCOLOR, and the second one is Jürgen's fix.

Isn't the gdmflexiserver the problem? Jürgen's fix @
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/132833/comments/11
replaces every gdmflexiserver with gdmflexiserver -a.

I confirm that this works.

[Bug 164971] Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files

2007-11-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After moving, deleting or renaming at least twenty or somtimes more big
files (most of them mp3-files of 10 to 30 MB), Gnome begins to refuse
normal function. The character of the files is not recognized any more,
and it is no more possible to open any file. Then nautilus freezes with
the error message too many open files, even if there are no open files
at all. After shutting down and restarting the X-Server everything works
fine again for some time.

[Bug 103135] Gnome Strange Behaviors After GDM Theme Changed

2007-11-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

- Login took a bit longer to complete
- Desktop items such as directories and files all disappeared
- System | Preferences or System | Administration led to sub-menu of items

- Selecting System | Quit brought up the usual dialog box but without the
option to reboot or shutdown the system.

[Bug 164986] Bad for media library

2007-11-25 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox is bad for media library.

You can only specify your library location to one place.
But I have example /home/me/Music but also /media/music/

It would be better if you could specify a list of locations instead of
just one location.

I used a music player software called musikCube it was much better. You
could select Synchronize and it would quickly re-scan and add new
files to the library, and remove entries from the library that are
deleted files.

You cannot right-click on the 'Track', 'Title', 'Genre', 'Artist',
'Album' and 'Time' things to add/remove the ones you want, example if
someone wanted to add 'Bitrate', 'Year' or 'Rating' to the details
displayed in the media library.

[Bug 164988] file size displayed incorrectly

2007-11-25 Thread chills42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Steps to reproduce:
1. download ftp://svr-ftp.eng.cam.ac.uk/pub/misc/love_C.ps.Z
2. open in file-roller
3. check the file size

Expected result:
The actual file is about 320k.

Actual result:
Displayed as about 17,000,000,000 GB

This seems to be a simple display problem, the file still extracts fine.

Same problem here.

If I open 4-5-6 .pdfs 7-800MB RAM is used up and soon all swap space too

I wonder how such an annoying bug - which basically render the computer
useless in a matter of minutes - in the default viewer for one of the
most used document formats can be prioritized as low.

consider this bug not a low priority because of the impact in our life.
We only request more attention for a bug that is present unaltered in 2
Ubuntu releases and manifest itself in every standard install i've done.

creating extra bug mail activity for the maintainer by adding yet
another comment asking about the settings will not make you get a reply,
quite the contrary. The bug has almost no subscriber, only 1 duplicate,
doesn't happen to everybody, the format is not support by the standard
installation due to since it's a commercial one and there is thousand of
desktop bugs and only a limited number of people working on those

[Bug 163847] Re: nautilus does not signal an error when remote file has disappeared

2007-11-25 Thread Francesco Potortì
It's just what I wrote above, but you can do it locally too if you have a local
ssh server running:
- open a terminal and do: cd; touch file
- open an ssh connection to localhost just to register localhost's key, then
close the connection
- from Places / Connect to server, create an ssh connection to localhost
- open that connection and see the file you created in your home
- go to the terminal and do: rm file
- from the Nautilus window connected to localhost via ssh drag the file to your
desktop: nothing happens

2007-11-25 Thread Saïvann Carignan
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When using the system tray plugin notification icon, I get an erratic
behavior. For example, initially, if I click on the tray icon (to hide
- the xchat-gnome window), I get an error similar to this one: xchat
- gnome plugin called without a valid context. The window is not hidden
+ the xchat-gnome window), I get an error similar to this one:
+ xchat_command called without a valid context. The window is not hidden
  of course.

After a while, and after switching desktops and windows, the icon starts
working and does so until I close the program. When reopened, the bug is
  back.

This was not happening in Edgy. Now after upgrading to Feisty, I get the
  bug in both my machines.

2007-11-25 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
Sebastien: xfwm4 works with gtk = 2.11.6 since the 4.4.1-2ubuntu2, not
the 4.4.1-3. The xfwm4 merge is a fix, but not the real one (the
conflict in the gtk package remains wrong); that's why I called this a
workaround.

Anyway, it's fixed, thus I'm not sure it's worth speaking of it further.

Hi!

I had the same bug and it seems to be resoved for me now! I did two
things and I can't tell wich one was the good one:

Firstly, on my desktop computer I re-enabled gnome-power-manager.
Secondly, I changed my /etc/hosts file by adding my hostname in the 127.0.0.1
line.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=388765

Can someone confirm this?

Thx good luck

[Bug 146412] Re: gnome-screensaver-dialog never shows up

2007-11-25 Thread Eetu Huisman
Thanks for the tip! It wasn't in fact the same issue, but just looking
at /etc/pam.d and /var/log/auth.log helped me getting to the root of
this. While running Feisty I added the line @include common-pamkeyring
to /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver to enable automatic WPA authentication
after resuming from hibernate. In Gutsy common-pamkeyring isn't
available, which caused gnome-screensaver to fail. It should've failed
in a more graceful manner, of course, but removing the extra line from
/etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver made things work again.

I'll notice upstream about the cause of the problem and the fix.

[Bug 165013] Connections to a Courier Mail Server via POP/SSL fail at random

2007-11-25 Thread Samuel L. B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Sometimes when I try to connect to a Courier Mail Server via POP3/SSL I
get this error message:

Fel vid Hämtar post.
Misslyckades med att läsa en giltig hälsning från POP-servern
pop.b03.levonline.com

Translated to English:
Error at Fetching mail.
Failed to read a valid greeting from the POP server pop.b03.levonline.com

When this happens it usually keeps failing for a while. However
connecting with openssl always works, so this seems to be a bug in
Evolution.

This servers certificate contains an invalid Common Name (localhost) and
has expired, but since it sometimes works, shouldn't it always work?

[Bug 165021] alsasink results in cracking basses

2007-11-25 Thread Kjell Braden
Public bug reported:

annoying cracks in the basses.

[Bug 165033] can't unlock screen in hardy

2007-11-25 Thread Rich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I can lock my screen using either the Lock Screen option or Ctrl-Alt-L
(the shortcut binding), but when I attempt to move the mouse or type
something on the keyboard to unlock it, the screensaver vanishes and is
replaced by black with occasional brief spurts of (gibberish or my mouse
cursor) which then rapidly switches back to the screensaver.

The password dialog never appears, as far as I can tell.

A sensible way to work.

You might be frustrated by this bug that doesn't
make it an high importance for the other users though

The bug's not high importance for me, and I thought I'd unsubscribed
from it -- apparently not, as I'm still getting these notifications.
(I'll have to check.)

Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't care about being able to use
MP4 audio. Neither does it mean that I think MP4 audio an unimportant
format strategically. It's merely that I've realized that it's better
to make other arrangements for encoding. (Of course, the same may
apply to others who haven't even bothered to subscribe.)

At least playback is there, and even if encoding could be done I doubt
anyone's going to compete on quality with either Nero's AAC encoder or
the one that QuickTime 7.3 is using, anyway.

Perhaps any Ubuntu users who aren't dual-booting and who are
frustrated by this issue might try encoding to a lossless format, such
as FLAC, instead. They could then transcode from FLAC to AAC using
Foobar2000 whenever they could get access to a Windows machine quite
easily provided Nero's codec was installed. Apparently, some people
have successfully used Nero under Wine, too:

[Bug 164296] [gutsy] Nautilus Places lists mounted RAID mirrors twice

2007-11-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On gutsy/amd64 (2.6.22-14-generic) with dmraid mirror, Nautilus (2.20.0)
lists mounted RAID mirrors twice.

This applies equally to Places and the main panel when Computer is
selected.

It seems like Nautilus is violating layering by looking at the underlying block
devices in /dev, not finding them
in /etc/mtab and listing them with the RAID filesystem label.

The Nautilus device listing should, at least, be configurable such that
these can be suppressed.

[Bug 59616] Re: keyboard not working after logging in via gdm

2007-11-25 Thread Shaved Wookie
I'm having this issue as well, but on Kubuntu Gutsy (32 bit)! I suspect
that it's probably an X thing.

I can also use the keyboard fine for the grub / login / failsafe, but
not at all once I've actually logged in (not even
Ctrl+alt+f1/del/backspace.

Man, it's not easy to debug a problem with no keyboard! Personally I
feel having people across multiple versions of *buntu not be able to use
their computer in any non mouse related way as a bit higher than low
priority...

Whatever I can do to help just let me know.

[Bug 164392] Re: Freeze on applications for a few seconds

2007-11-25 Thread esox
Flashing the firmware of the DVD writer didnt change anything. Forcing
IDE module may solve but, as there is no DMA tranfert supported with
this option, it's not a good solution. Compiling a new kernel ??? Could
it solve ? With ide/piix modules with DMA transfert ?

I really think there is an issue there because many many people using
laptops have that problem... Is there a solution in progress ? Or
changing distribution is the only possibility ?

[Bug 165065] Re: [wishlist] Ubuntu reboot into other OS

2007-11-25 Thread Nanley Chery
I like this idea.Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package
associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked
at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right
package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have
classified this bug as a bug in gnome-session.

** Summary changed:

- wishlist: Ubuntu reboot into other OS
+ [wishlist] Ubuntu reboot into other OS
