[Bug 164109] Re: eog crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-12-15 Thread Leo B.
Here is an example of a JPEG file that kills eog 2.20.1/x86_64. The image
passes the test by jpeginfo and can be displayed by any other program I've
tried.
Running jpegoptim on it helps.

I have never heard of this problem before. Please file a separate bug

[Bug 176497] Re: epiphany-browser is described as a dummy package, but provides useful functionality

2007-12-15 Thread Emmet Hikory
Sorry for the confusion. I was confirming the bug based on my testing.
By "not otherwise impacting epiphany", I mean that I could still launch
epiphany-gecko from the epiphany menu item, and the application worked
successfully, so it appears that the only remaining functionality in the
"dummy" package is the selection option, so this bug isn't local to your
system, and should be considered for a solution.

[Bug 176640] multiple password entry request by gdm with thinkfinger PAM module

2007-12-15 Thread Chris Manuh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I have a toshiba laptop with a built-in fingerprint reader. I have
installed the thinkfinger module and configured PAM to allow logging in
to the system by swiping my finger. this works great. when i initially
start the system, the GDM login screen comes up with a message "Enter
your password or swipe your finger". if swipe my finger, I'm logged in
and taken to my Gnome desktop. However if I enter my password, GDM
returns to the same password entry screen, but instead of "Enter your
password or swipe your finger", i get just "Enter your password"
message. If i enter my password the second time, I'm then taken to the
gnome desktop, as expected. Also after GDM returns the second time with
"Enter your password" message, swiping my finger no longer works.

Please feel free to contact me for any additional info needed to fix
this problem.

Thanks

[Bug 175430] Re: users-admin crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2007-12-15 Thread etrusco
The only problem is the dbgsyms don't seem to be available for Hardy...

For me this bug is reproducible 100% of time and I haven't changed absolutely
anything from authentication, users and group settings or whatever.
I just try to create a user for which the only information is account name and
password and after clicking 'Ok' it takes a second or two then crashes. (I
tried filling up all fields to no avail)
Before updating to Hardy (IOW with Gutsy) I could create users just fine. (But)
During the Gutsy development the users-admin app had this exact same
problem/symptoms.
Creating a user with 'adduser' still works fine.

[Bug 158941] Re: can't browse jamendo collection from rhythmbox plugin

2007-12-15 Thread madskaddie
I had the same problem and thanks for the patch!

By the way, running rhythmbox as root its a very ugly bruteforce
solution for the bytecode creation. I sugest something more elegant as
opening a python console (in the /usr/lib/ryth,,, dir) and do:

import py_compile
py_compile.compile("JamendoSource.py")

and that's all (pretty simple, hum?)!

Now I can go to listen some good free music!

[Bug 176603] Resizing audio to "1:1" causes sidebar to shrink too small

2007-12-15 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Before visiting Launchpad bug #84757 I was not even aware that you could
resize audio. But when I do, it also shrinks the playlist in the
sidebar, so narrow I cannot see what I'm listening to, That's not
right. Probably it should simply keep the current dimensions for the
sidebar; or, if it resizes it, make it just wide enough to display all
the information.

Stretching the window causes the logo window to grow, but even if I
resize it back to the smallest Totem will allow, pressing "1" again
causes the sidebar to shrink.

[Bug 176586] [nautilus] confusion between XQuery and SVG

2007-12-15 Thread Arnaud Blouin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

On Gutsy and Nautilus 2.20.0
I have an XQuery file (that defines a transformation from an XML file to an SVG
one) and when I try to open it with nautilus, it thinks that the XQuery file is
an SVG one (and try to open it with eog because the XQuery file contains some
SVG elements).

[Bug 176557] Re: Nautilus segfaults after icon-theme cache reading in endless loop

2007-12-15 Thread Fabian
Okay I finally found a bug report which had a solution that worked for me.
I had to delete /usr/share/icons/gnome/icon-theme.cache and now nautilus works
again.

Hmm I don't recall if my last update also updated nautilus. Maybe deleting the
cache after
an update should be done?

Thanks, Fabian

[Bug 31344] Re: F1 opens Gnome Terminal Help which is no always what you want

2007-12-15 Thread mezhaka
Hey thank you guys -- the disabling of F1 in the terminal Edit->Keyboard
Shortcuts... works just fine. I've found this page googling by
ubuntu terminal F1

Personally I don't think the proposed chages are worth implementing. It
might be easier to mention that it is possible to disable GNOME F1
behavior in the default terminal help, i.e. if i want help from some app
wich works in terminal, but get the terminal help when pressing F1, the
default help page which will show up can mention that it is possible to
disable this behavior in the aforementioned fashion.

Thanks for the tip again.

Yes it happens with other users too. Those documents were create by
Microsoft word 2000 and Microsoft Wordpad. After i realised that problem
is caused by actually created two different RTF test files. One with
word and other with wordpad. So the problem seems to be related to rtf
documents originally created by the micrsoft word 2000 and wordpad.

[Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files

2007-12-15 Thread Patrick Cornelissen
I can confirm this bug.
It first happened when I tried to gather all the files for the cdburner to
create a mp3 CD. It was a real pain because it was not possible to burn the cd
or save the stuff I configured for this cd. So I had to start from scratch and
all work of 2h music selection was gone. Now I am copying the file and I will
burn the cd at once when all files are there.
During this preparation I have encountered the "Too many open files" Bug
several times and I solved it with logging in/out.

This bug is really a pain in the ... uhm ... (!) back :-)

Maybe I should use midnight commander for the copy actions ;)

[Bug 176503] Re: gnome segfault on login

2007-12-15 Thread Sense Hofstede
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I was changing the looks of my account I noticed that
gnome-appearance-properties wouldn't start. When I inserted the command in the
terminal it told me about a segfault. I tried to solve it with restarting the X
server, but after I logged in on my account I got an empty desktop. I switched
to tty1 and logged in with the root account and found out the segfaults in
messages which are attached to this bug report(although those are just 10
minutes old). I killed the gdm processes and executed 'M_ALLOC=0 startx'. Now I
had was logged in into gnome with root. It worked fine. But the same command by
my own account still caused segfaults. I tried startx without M_ALLOC=0 at root
and it still worked.
Can the username be the cause? My username is 'sense'
+ I thought the error could be in the hidden configuration files in my home
directory, who are still from dapper, so I removed my account, changed the name
of my home dir to sense-bak and created a new account. I could work on it for a
while, I got it configured again and the files back to their place, but then it
got segfaults again. Using nvidia or nv as display driver didn't change that. I
created a test account called test, which is a Desktop user(sense is an
Administrator), and it still works, although it is just 15 mins old.

I files this bug against gnome-panel because that gave the most segfaults.
update-manager gave just one, do I have to file this against that too, or
should I pick the kernel?

the epiphany-browser package states in its description that it is a
"dummy package". However, it provides the entry for epiphany in gnome's

Either the description should be changed, or this functionality should
be moved to a different package.
