[Bug 176696] Allow for file tagging, ala F-spot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Here is my user case: I recently started sharing my computer with my girlfriend. We don't have one user for each of us (in short) because that's the way she wants it, so we share most of our stuff. A while ago we started merging our photo collections and we decided to do so with F-spot. I tend to be quite selective with my pictures and delete all the ones I don't like, while she keeps tons of them, so I was worried that her pictures would keep me from even finding mine. That was not the case, as I soon found I could just tag the pictures I like as "David's favourites" and the ones she likes as "Susana's favourites". That way I can watch only mine when I'm alone, and we can watch together the ones we BOTH like by looking for "David's" and "Susana's", or even easily delete the pictures neither of us likes by excluding both tags. I was astonished by how powerful the tagging system really was. I would like to be able to do the same with our music. Our taste in music is quite different and most times I don't want to listen to her music if I'm not with her, so basically I'm the one who uses Rhythmbox and she plays her music by dragging the folders to Totem. I would like her to use RB, though, and would like to have it tell the music I like apart from the music SHE likes. Is there any way to let Rhythmbox use tags just like f-spot does? I think it would be very easy to put it into the GUI... just include a "tag" option in the browser, alongside with the artist and album, and a right-click menu option that lets you add a tag. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Allow for file tagging, ala F-spot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 176508] Re: wireless self-reconnect
A get around to this problem could be using a little program on the "Execute a program" box (see attachment) in the Advance Actions menu (Knetworkmanager>Options>Configure). [Bug 145866] Re: system sounds do not play
I'm having a similar issue. I found this bug after looking through the forums, and it seems my problem could be related. My problem started when I installed Monkey Bubble and had no sound in the game. This turned out to be a common problem. After following some advice in an UbuntuForums thread to install "pulseaudio." I still couldn't get sound from Monkey Bubble, but nothing else other than Amarok that I tested produced sound. I uninstalled "pulseaudio" and the one or two other packages it had brought with it, including "pulseaudio-esound-compat". Now I get no system sounds, no game sounds...the only thing that seems to produce sound is Amarok. When I run "frozen-bubble" from a command line, part of the error is the same as one above: [SDL Init] ALSA lib pcm.c:2105:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so [Graphics] Warning: can't initialize sound (reason: No available audio device). After removing and reinstalling alsa-base (and dependent packages), the error message stayed the same. Seeing "pulse" in the missing module made me wonder if I should now try reinstalling "pulseaudio". After doing so, the frozen-bubble error message changed to: [SDL Init] *** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to connect: Connection refused [Graphics] Is it worse? Is it related? [Bug 176755] nautilus should provide more detailed error dialog when move to trash fails
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Given the following conditions: 1. User "x" has a directory he owns on on file-system "y" which is _not_ his home directory 2. User "x" does not have write access to the "y" root directory 3. There is no ".trash-x" directory in the "y" root directory or it is not writable by "x" If the user "x" attempts to move a file from his directory on "y" to Trash he will get the following error message: “Cannot move file to trash do you want to delete immediately?” With no indication as to why or where the file couldn't be moved. I suggest this will be resolved in one of two ways: 1. Add a "details" button that will specify that the file couldn't be moved to ".trash-x" (Specifying a full path, a sufficiently knowledgeable user will then be able to simple create the required directory) 2. Offer the user to create the required directory by asking for an administrative password to do so. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nautilus should provide more detailed error dialog when move to trash fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176755 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 147209] Re: app opened thru "Open With" becomes default for filetype
Confirmed on Hardy, but there is also a way to reverse it. Details: On a fresh install the .xcf files are associated with Gimp. If you right-click on a .xcf file in nautilus you are offered the option of opening the file with Gimp or 'Other application'. If you select Other and then eog, eog will try and fail to load it. Any time you then click on a .xcf file nautilus will try to launch eog and fail. "image viewer" (eog) is now the top choice in the context menu and the default. There is no obvious way to change the default back. To change the default back to Gimp, go to properties for the file and select the 'Open with' tab. I'll close this bug, since it does take a few odd steps to get into this position and since there is a GUI way to reverse it. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low Status: New => Invalid -- app opened thru "Open With" becomes default for filetype https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147209 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 132612] Re: memory leak in evince?
I just wanted to add that I've noticed a pattern to what sets off the extreme memory usage. If I open a file with embedded type 1 fonts, i.e. one generated by pdftex or the built-in generator in openoffice, it works just like it used to in feisty. But if I try to open a pdf that is scanned in or which uses bitmapped fonts, such as the one Evan linked to above, memory spikes and the machine becomes all but unusable. Add my voice to the chorus of disagreement over the low priority. This is a serious bug -- at least if we consider evince a serious program. I used evince all the time in Feisty, but now it is all but useless for me except as a latex viewing program. If I want to open up a pdf that someone sends me or that I come across on the web, I have to resort to acrobat. -- memory leak in evince? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132612 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 176814] Going to Places -> $(some SMB server) freezes Gnome-Panel until folder has loaded
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel As the title says, Gnome-panel freezes until the SMB share is loaded by Nautilus. Shouldn't Gnome-panel be creating a new thread to handle the network latency? On days when the SMB shares are especially slow to load, my desktop and tool bars can be locked up for minutes at a time. Meanwhile, there is no indication that the folder is loading. I know that you guys are fond of marking usability bugs as "wishlist" items and ignoring them, but this is a huge disruption to work flow and is exactly the sort of thing that serious computer users point to when they say that "Ubuntu (or Linux in general) just doesn't the polish that it needs to be usable". In that light, I urge developers to mark this as a high-priority bug and get it fixed for Hardy, if not sooner. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Going to Places -> $(some SMB server) freezes Gnome-Panel until folder has loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 176688] gdm complains about missing locale

[Bug 164640] Re: Build Firefox 3 against a subpixel-patched cairo
Here are two debdiff. fontconfig-2.5.0-2ubuntu1--2.5.0-2ubuntu2.debdiff libcairo_1.4.10-1ubuntu6--1.5.4-0ubuntu1.debdiff The 1st one (fontconfig) is a requirement for the 2nd. I've tested that for a couple of days. No regression on my system. I've used that cairo with xulrunner 1.9 and firefox 3.0 b2 rc1. It works like a charm. Everything is available for review in my PPA. Prism also benefited from this through xulrunner 1.9. Same as experimental miro. 1st debdiff: +fontconfig (2.5.0-2ubuntu2) hardy; urgency=low + + * Replace Ubuntu's lcd patch by patch from Freedesktop bug #13566 +which will allow native Cairo 1.6 lcd filtering (as per +Freedesktop bug #10301) +- drop debian/patches/03_ubuntu_lcd_filter.patch +- add debian/patches/03_lcd_filter_freedesktop_bug13566.patch +- update debian/patches/04_ubuntu_monospace_lcd_filter_conf.patch + + -- Fabien Tassin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Fri, 14 Dec 2007 15:30:43 +0100 ** Attachment added: "fontconfig-2.5.0-2ubuntu1--2.5.0-2ubuntu2.debdiff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10927915/fontconfig-2.5.0-2ubuntu1--2.5.0-2ubuntu2.debdiff -- Build Firefox 3 against a subpixel-patched cairo https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for libcairo in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
