[Bug 36990] Re: Sometimes get two speaker icons when playing tracks

2007-12-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Found this bug in Gutsy. How I duplicated: Select a track, hit play.
Skip back to the beginning, one track at a time. Skip ahead to the
originally selected track. Let it play all the way through, then skip
back tracks.

Unfortunately it only happened once, and I can't duplicate. Just wanted
to note that this bug is still around.

[Bug 178257] Preference for disabling undo to save memory when editing very large images

2007-12-23 Thread Pander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Please implement in Preference a boolean which is for disabling undo.
Default value will be false. This option allows GIMP to use less memory.
This is handy when editing very large images and will postpone the

Temporarily disabling undo will allow users to use GIMP for larger

[Bug 172444] Re: [Gutsy] Logout a session causes X-Window changes from VT7 to VT9

2007-12-23 Thread Nicolas M
I Confirm the bug, as I just migrated from Feisty to Gutsy a couple of
days ago.

Logout from the Gnome session causes:
- gdm to restart (Nvidia logo reappears, lots of display flickering)
- the new X windows session to be attached to VT9 instead of initial VT7.

Note: other login/logout will still cause gdm to restart, but the VT
stays stuck to VT9.

In /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I can read this:
-
Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,
(++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,

.../... then later in file:

(II) Module pcidata: vendor=X.Org Foundation
compiled for 1.3.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.2
(++) using VT number 9

(II) PCI: PCI scan (all values are in hex)

.../... then rest of the file.
-

So: Would it be a command line script somewhere that requests use of
VT9 instead of VT7 ?

2007-12-23 Thread sja821
Printing pdfs from evince fails for me as well. All of my printers are
networked with native postscript. Evince hangs at 100% cpu after
printing until I exit evince. I can print to file (postscript format)
and then lpr the ps file, so it is doing the hard parts right. When
running evince from the command line, I get a message that the file is
empty when I try to print to the printer. The same printers worked
properly in edgy (I skipped feisty).

[Bug 64905] Re: Mp3 metadata (ID3 tags) are corrupt

2007-12-23 Thread Christian Niemeyer
Perhaps this is maybe more MOTU-related to lame is not official supported (I
guess) by ubuntu?
Someone should make a thread on ubuntuforums.org.

Though .ogg is superior than .mp3 this bug is quite a showstopper if
someone needs to rip mp3s in an easy way for hardware players and mp3
/usb-sticks (and who can't afford an ogg player). It's sad, but mp3 is
still some kind of the standard in exchanging music. (Wasn't that lucky
bringing a .ogg-CD/DVD to a party. But next time I will ask to install a
plugin before :-)) )

[Bug 178313] antspotlight screensaver hangs computer

2007-12-23 Thread Mike Brasher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

When previewing screensavers (systempreferencesscreensavers), I click
on antspotlight and the computer freezes. I tried ctrl-alt-backspace
and nothing. I had to manually reboot my system. My system is an AMD
Sempron 2500+, gigabyte mobo, 512 ram, 2 hard drives (winxp on one and
Ubuntu on the other), graphics are on board. I don't remember the exact
graphics chip, but it's VIA and it uses 64MB of shared memory. The
system runs winxp with no trouble.

[Bug 178359] hal-info and rhythmbox conflict on audio_folders for PSP

2007-12-23 Thread Karol Krizka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-info

I noticed that rhythmbox support PlayStation Portables, and it works pretty
well. However there is one problem. Rhythmbox tells to copy the files to /MUSIC
(which is correct), and then hal adds the audio_folders setting from
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi which
results in /MUSIC/PSP/MUSIC (which now is wrong). The best fix for this seems
to be to edit
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi by
changing
  append key=portable_audio_player.audio_folders
type=strlistPSP/MUSIC//append
to
   append key=portable_audio_player.audio_folders
type=strlistMUSIC//append
  append key=portable_audio_player.audio_folders
type=strlistPSP/MUSIC//append

and removing the path detection code from plugins/generic-player/rb-psp-
source.c

I will try to create a patch for both packages later.

[Bug 157622] Re: gdm hangs after login in gutsy

2007-12-23 Thread Giorgio Vazzana
When I upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy two days ago, I had the same
problem. Looking at .xsession-errors I found the following error:

1198440598.912730 Session manager: gsm-remote-desktop.c:107: remote desktop
server died, restarting
1198440598.916107 Session manager: gsm-remote-desktop.c:107: remote desktop

OAFIID:GNOME_RemoteDesktopServer failed: System exception:
IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0

This led me to think it was something related with remote desktop. So I
fixed the problem by disabling it (the server name is vino-server).
To do so, run from a terminal vino-preferences and disable remote
desktop. Now reboot and it should work. This seems to fix bug #172444
too. I hope this helps.

P.S.: I think there might be a bug in vino or in the gnome-session
package (since gsm-remote-desktop.c belongs to that package), so this is
just a quick fix.

[Bug 149964] I couldn't agree more...

2007-12-23 Thread Neil Woolford
This is not merely annoying, it means I can't upgrade several machines
that I look after for other users because they would simply, and
rightly, conclude that I'd broken their ebay search result emails.

(I know it isn't exactly what is happening, but it is what appears to be
happening from the point of view of a normal human user who just wants
to be able to click a link in an email and have it do the Right Thing
(TM)) I myself am getting irritated at having to copy and paste the
item number in the link every time I spot something interesting in an
emailed search result.

As for what this does to German language links that use (common)
extended characters, check out the examples given in earlier posts. I
imagine this applies to other languages too.

If the technical problems are too severe (and this is after all a
regression, not a long standing bug), would I be on the right track by
trying to pin the use of an earlier version of Evolution?

[Bug 66104] Re: [Gutsy] scim: input freezes in various applications under XIM mode

2007-12-23 Thread Juerd
I had this problem with Inkscape. It often happened within a few minutes from
starting Inkscape. Thanks for the workaround!

Here's a slightly simpler procedure for the same workaround:

1. Edit ~/.scim/config and set /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic = true
2. Make the file immutable: sudo chattr +i ~/.scim/config
3. Logout, login.
4. Make the file mutable again: sude chattr -i ~/.scim/config

I personally choose to skip step 4, so I'm sure it won't be changed
without my permission. Be careful with this, because that may become a
problem if you forget about the +i or if a future version cannot cope
with the current config format.

[Bug 178359] Re: hal-info and rhythmbox conflict on audio_folders for PSP

2007-12-23 Thread Karol Krizka
Needs this patch applied, because rhythmbox loads the HAL values after
they scanned the entire PSP memory stick, which is too late. Without
this fix, rhythmbox might crash.

2007-12-23 Thread Murat Güneş
Thanks for your report. This bug did not have a package associated with
it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. I've assigned it to the gnome-panel package. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage .
