[Bug 178564] [Hardy]cannot log back into GNOME after you lock the screen

2007-12-25 Thread Pramod Dematagoda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

This issue was marked as a duplicate of Bug #131679 which labels a
Compiz-Fusion crash being the cause, but I found that the issue still
occurs even with Compiz-Fusion turned off, that is with Metacity
replacing it, so the fact that Compiz-Fusion crashed may not be the
culprit of this problem and may be something with the gnome-session
package itself.

[Bug 178485] Evince printing unprintable PDF marks

2007-12-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I print a PDF file using Evince in Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 x86_64, the program
prints contents intended to be displayed on-screen only.
I often use pdflatex to generate PDF files, and I use a LaTeX package named
hyperref that formats links as PDF links. All PDF links are represented on
screen as boxes that should not be printed. However, from 7.10, Evince started
to print the boxes. The only workaround is to regenerate the PDF file without
the hyperref package, or use Adobe Reader. This is especially annoying for PDF
for which I do not have the source, and taking into account that Adobe Reader
is far from the ideal PDF solution, especially for a x86_64 system.
I tried with xpdf, and kpdf: same effect. It seems the bug is in Poppler, which
is used by the three program.
Is there any other workaround than downloading and recompiling packages from
source code; I do not have time for this, unfortunately.

[Bug 178586] Bad profiles for Sound Juicer

2007-12-25 Thread thorwil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

The Voice, lossless profile is misleading, because a sample-rate of
22050 Hz does mean a loss from CD quality and I don't think it's clear
that Voice would mean lower quality.

There's a lack of a CD Quality WAV profile for avoiding any conversion
at the cost of disc space. WAV is way more portable than ogg and flacc.

[Bug 35112] Re: MP3 track times are incorrect

2007-12-25 Thread Christian Niemeyer
Can confirm this in Gutsy. Seems to happen with VBR settings. In Gutsy
(for me) there's also the problem, that pipelines including xingmux
will not appear to be selected in sound-juicer, though are listed in
gstreamer pipelines.

However, instead auf xingmux I tried ffmux_mpeg (ffmpeg packages) it
works better, but still quite often totally wrong lenght information in
totem, rhythmbox (especially) and nautilus.

Without ffmux_mpeg or xingmux (which does not work at all) results are
even worse. Personally I don't need mp3 support, but at least when hardy
gets released I will recommend ubuntu to more non-technical friends and
family. Some of them need correct VBR mp3s. I think mp3 with CBR is not
an option. ;-) But the VBRs make problems with many apps, for example
with serpentine, when burning an audio cd. If you have many 3-4 min
songs, which are displayed as 12 or 15 min songs, you can not measure
how much space on the cd will be used.

PS: I noticed with checkmp3 that nautilus displays the VBR rate also
wrong, it shows only the lowest rate used (VBR_LOW) though it must be
VBR_AVERAGE.

[Bug 130871] Re: [GPL GS WORKS] Can't print, because cups-pstoraster failed

2007-12-25 Thread Norman Molhant
Similar problem in Gutsy, although it's using Ghostscript: some pages fail to
print on my Epson Stylus C60 under CUPS,
with error message: /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster failed. Most
importantly, some CUPS printer maintenance pages fail:
I got that error with the Clean print heads page...
So, I guess problem confirmed in Gutsy, notwithstanding Till Kamppeter
hopeful message. :(

[Bug 35229] Re: totem-xine crash on logo (workaround inside)

2007-12-25 Thread Dag-Erling Smørgrav
Same as Chris Waigl. Worked fine with Feisty. The previously mentioned
workaround (scaling or removing totem_logo.png) does not work.
Furthermore, gxine fails in the exact same manner:

The program 'gxine' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 326 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 14)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Really annoying, as I just got season 5 of the Simpsons for Christmas. I
watched the first four seasons without a hitch on Feisty.

I was able to watch the first episode using totem-gstreamer. I also
tried vlc, but the image was very jumpy, and navigation was almost
impossible as I could not see the mouse pointer while it was inside the
vlc window.

[Bug 178671] Login screen does not have the option to run without hinting

2007-12-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is a minor annoyance, not actually a bug. I actually run my XFCE
session with hinting disabled. So I would see a login screen consistent
with my XFCE session. This way the user has a consistent experience. So
I feel it would be better if an option can be provided to enable or
disable hinting in the login screen.

[Bug 178677] Default photo import preferences are for gthumb --import, but F-Spot is the default manager

2007-12-25 Thread Daeng Bo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Steps to reproduce:
1) Plug in camera
2) Accept the import
3) Choose location
4) Try to open your newly imported photos with F-Spot, the manager.
5) The imported photos aren't in the manager.

The default photo import preferences are for gthumb --import. Gthumb is
specifically removed from the main menu on a default install.

In order to import photos into F-Spot, the default photo manager for Ubuntu,
you have two choices:
1) Import via GThumb when requested to, open F-Spot, then import from the saved
location, deleting the first set of photos later; or
2) Cancel the import, open F-Spot, and import the photos manually from the
camera.

The solution:
Change the preferred importer to f-spot-import.

[Bug 139084] Re: Unsafe removal of drives says to Eject while context menu says Unmount

2007-12-25 Thread Daeng Bo
What's the status on this? The bug is easy to fix. New users remain
unable to follow the directions given when unsafely removing a USB
drive.

I believe you can only unsafely remove an external drive, not a CD (you
must software eject that), so changing the Unsafe removal, please use
eject to Unsafe removal, please use unmount should be sufficient to
fix the problem. There's no need to be concerned with what will happen
if a use unsafely removes a CD, so you don't need to use the word
eject anywhere in the warning.

[Bug 178681] Unable to start Rhythmbox DAAP playback from the command line or service-discovery-applet

2007-12-25 Thread Daeng Bo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

To reproduce:

At the command line, type something like the following:
rhythmbox-client --play-uri daap:192.168.0.3:3689/databases/1/items/1.mp3
The error returned is:
(rhythmbox-client:14266): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: No registered source can handle
URI daap:192.168.0.3:3689/databases/1/items/1.mp3

This error keeps developers from being able to write a service-
discovery-applet plugin for DAAP shares which open in Rhythmbox. I
realize that this is not especially high priority, but Ubuntu is looking
to move to Zeroconf/Avahi as much as possible. Fixing this bug is just
one more step in that process.

[Bug 174292] Re: Audio volume control keys control microphone volume instead of PCM volume

2007-12-25 Thread Jerone Young
This is definetly a Gnome issue. As KDE has no problem at all detecting
the PCM. The problem here is that with the Thinkpad T61 some other
newer laptops the sound card no longer has a hardware mixer (otherwise
know as Master), now they only have PCM.

KDE seems to be able to handle this fine. I confirmed this by booting up
Kubuntu 7.10 live cd on my Thinkpad T61 and when I pressed the up and
down volume keys, they changed the volume of PCM. Just worked out of
the box.

I have been looking through the Gnome code base and I see places where
if it does not detect Master it should fall back and try PCM , but
this does not appear to work.

[Bug 80856] Re: F-Spot as default for importing photos

2007-12-25 Thread Daeng Bo
Agreed that we should choose one or the other. It appears that Ubuntu
has made the choice to go with F-Spot, so import should be through
F-Spot, as well. There's no need to import photos via GThumb (which
isn't even on the menu by default), then import again into F-Spot. It's
just confusing for the user.

If we choose GThumb, then F-Spot should be removed and GThumb should be
added back into the menu.

My vote is for f-spot-import, though.
