[Bug 179043] Gnome Panel locks up when inputting anything

2007-12-28 Thread sheepeatingtaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Whenever I type anything into the 'search' bar in Gnome panel, it locks
up completely after a single character. Please let me know what I can do
to try and help debug this, as I am very aware that this is not a
detailed report, and it cannot be doing this for many people!

2007-12-28 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
I marked them as duplicates as I thought this would be the same

downgrading metacity fixed both issues.

Anyway I'm ok with this being a different bug.

Closing the tracker task as invalid, as this seems to be a regression in
metacity. See bug 177027 too.

[Bug 173299] Re: Cannot print pdf file to Laserjet 5MP

2007-12-28 Thread Samuel L. B.
It works for me with evince on Ubuntu 7.10, though it takes quite some
time until it appears in the printer queue. I'm using the
"Foomatic/ljet4" driver. However, I have a HP Laserjet 5P (without the
M) so isn't exactly the same printer.

What printer driver are you using? You can get this information from the
"Printing" program in the System->Administration menu. The driver name
is displayed after the printer name, to the right to "Make and model".
Maybe you could try the "Foomatic/ljet4" driver that I'm using.

[Bug 179088] Re: Notification not working for search folders

2007-12-28 Thread hggdh
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.

The new-mail-notification will notify on new mail on Inbox only, so you
are not doing anything wrong -- this is how it works. The mail-
notification plugin, as of Evolution 2.21.4, does have an option to
notify on *any* new mail, or only new mail in Inbox.

I am closing this bug as notabug, but please re-open if you disagree

[Bug 178773] Re: Misleading error message when sending a email that the server rejects

2007-12-28 Thread hggdh
Looking upstream for matches.

@kimus: could you please run Evo with some omre debugging set? See
http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/bugs.shtml for details, but I
would like you to:

1. stop Evo completely (from a terminal, run 'evolution --force-shutdown')
2. start Evo from the terminal with 'CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution >& evo.log'
3. repeat the issue
4. completely stop Evo (as in 1 above)

Then please sanitise the evo generated log, and attach it here. Also
please attach your ~/.xsession-errors, at least with all Evo-related
messages.

Thank you.

[Bug 179110] command option to start RB playing

2007-12-28 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

It seems that a command option to open Rhythmbox and start playing right
away is lacking. There is rhythmbox-client --play but that will only
make an already existing RB play, NOT open a new one.

I can think of several situations where it would be useful. The Alarm
Clock Applet (http://joh.deworks.net/blog/?page_id=58), for example,
acts as a wake up alarm and offers the possibility to launch a specific
app for that purpose. It can launch RB, but it cannot make it start
playing so it becomes useless to wake anyone up.

[Bug 161122] Re: nm_applet prompts for password on startup

2007-12-28 Thread Ned
The network manager applet nm-applet that you use to connect to the
wireless network stores the WEP/WPA keys with the gnome keyring manager,
which you can access in System -> Administration -> Keyring manager.
When a keyring is first created by the nm-applet, you have to supply a
password, which is required every time the keyring is accessed while
locked (which is the case when you reboot). What you can do is delete
the keyring, reboot, re-enter the WPA passphrase, recreate the keyring
using your login password as the password, then use some funny tricks
available online to make it so you aren't prompted for a password
anymore. Grapeshot made a nice post here on how to do that:

[Bug 178032] Re: Add to Address Book kills Metacity it doesn't return

2007-12-28 Thread diltonm
I could not find apport-gtk though it was listed as installed so I did a
find and it seems to live at /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk. So I ran
"sudo /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk
/var/crash/_usr_bin_evolution.1000.crash" (that was the only Evolution
crash file and it was on the same day as I filed this bug so I'm not
sure but it may be related).

Running that command didn't do anything though? I guess there should be
a program that runs with a Gtk-based UI that would let me file a new
bug?

Sorry, my double mistake... I should have given you the path to apport-
gtk, and the correct options.

sudo /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk --crash-file /var/crash/

[Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2007-12-28 Thread TomasHnyk
Chad, Marcus - alternatively to what Leszek writes, you can start gnome-
keyring-manager, delete the keyring and create a new one. FOr automatic
unlocking ,the keyring must be the same as login password.

Sebastien: I do think that having the keyring password in plain text is
a security issue but I will gladly interchange it in order to not having
to input any passwords (I do not value my WPA password that much). So I
think this should be somehow fixed because it lures people to have
password in plain text.

Troels: thanks.

Me too same problem - I'm running Linux Mint OS, and Evolution mail.

Error Message,

Tried to search contacts by using the “Show” category drop down menu.
Then error message comes up and Evolution must be closed and restarted.
Repeatable 100% of the time. Running 2.12.1 version.

[Bug 179154] gdk-pixbuf fails to load jpeg with "Application transferred too few scanlines"

2007-12-28 Thread Peter Clifton
Public bug reported:

I've been having issues where I can't properly load images in a program
I'm developing, and it appears to be an upstream GTK bug.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494667

These is a patch available.

As this bug breaks jpeg loading completely for any JPEG passed to
gdk_pixbuf_loader_write() more than 65536 bytes at a time, I'd wonder if
the upstream patch would qualify for SRU.

There is a test-case attached to the upstream bug.

[Bug 150379] Re: Nautilus built-in search doesn't work if tracker is disabled

2007-12-28 Thread Steve K
My Nautilus installation's search feature was dead as a doorknob.
Thanks to this thread, it works again: I uninstalled and purged
Tracker, bounced my terminal just to make sure, then reinstalled Tracker
and its related packages. Bingo: Nautilus search is working correctly
now. I also added a similar comment to Bug 247286 over on Bugzilla -
looks like the same problem.

Tracker was running before I started this repair. I imagine something
was wrong with a config file somewhere.
