[Bug 181164] Unicode display and input is broken.
Public bug reported: When using GNOME Terminal in Hardy, the Unicode display and input is broken. Some characters (e.g., «, », ©, ®, ™, and others) are transliterated, and others still (é, á, í, ö, and more accented letters) simply show up as "?". ß shows up as ss, and so forth. This is horribly broken, /especially/ when I am entering a unicode code point and expect a UTF-8 output and instead get an ASCII transliteration. These may very well be valid transliterations, but they are *not* desired; if I wanted to use transliterations of Unicode characters, I would type those in instead! Along the same lines, man pages no longer display correctly unless I invoke man with a modified environment: LC_ALL=C man ls works fine, but man ls The latter does not show apostrophes, some hyphens, quotation marks, and other UTF-8 encoded characters. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: vte (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Unicode display and input is broken. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 55999] Re: Can't type in password if LDAP address book isn't default in "Select Conteact from Address Book"
(status change overwrote my previous comment) This problem is definitely present in Gutsy, evolution 2.12.1-0ubuntu1 Steps to reproduce 1. Under Edit->Preferences->Autocompletion, make sure remote address book is not selected (LDAP/exchange GAL) 2. start new email, bring up the "select contacts from address book" dialog by clicking on "To:" or "Cc:" 3. select the address book from step 1 (ie not an autocompletion one). Problem occurs here. Password dialog is displayed for the remote address book, however the "select contacts" dialog keeps focus under *all* circumstances - even if window manager shows the dialog as having focus). This makes entering the password impossible - any password typed appears in the Search field of the select contacts dialog. workaround: close the "select contacts" dialog (not the password dialog). now enter the password for the remote address book in the password dialog and select ok. bring up the "select contacts" dialog again by clicking on To: or Cc:, it is now possible to select addresses from the remote address book. possible fix: the "select contacts" dialog should lose focus if a password dialog is displayed. -- Can't type in password if LDAP address book isn't default in "Select Conteact from Address Book" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/55999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Turning them + off fixes it. However, this is still certainly a bug and shouldn't be + left alone. When I move an application window to another workspace, it doesn't show up on the workspace preview panel. When I go to that workspace, however, the application window is there, but the preview of the original workspace disappears. This doesn't always happen, but usually the problem is fixed by restarting my computer. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore; I can't fix it. When I move to a workspace that has stuff on it (I can't tell until I move to it) everything reappears -- fades in as I have the visual effects on Extra. This shouldn't be happening, obviously. And I know this isn't a normal thing, so there must be a conflict with something else, I imagine? (All windows also "reappear" -- although they're already up -- when I do a Ctrl+F Find in a cell of Calc. That's just weird. I would think, opening up a Gnome session, navigating in Nautilus, doing other misc. tasks, and then logging out would cause the bug to trigger - for me, it's not EVERY time, but definitely more times than not. [Bug 181088] /proc/$pid/* gets too restrictive permissions for g-s-t tools
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools gnome-system-tools relies on PolicyKit to check privileges, and PolicyKit-gnome 0.6 requires reading /proc/$pid/exe to know the executable binary path, however this is what I get when running any g-s-t tool (didn't see it with other executables): $ ps -ef | grep "network-admin" carlos9385 8497 0 20:35 pts/100:00:00 ./network-admin $ ls -l /proc/9385/exe ls: cannot read symbolic link /proc/9385/exe: Permission denied lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2008-01-07 20:36 /proc/9385/exe When pressing the "unlock" button, PolicyKit-gnome should show a dialog to ask for the user/admin password, but due to these permissions, it fails, g-s-t was incorrectly interpreting the error as a successful reply (fixed in svn trunk), but there's clearly a much bigger underlying problem, so the possible solutions are: 1) Check where does the /proc/$pid entry for g-s-t tools get such permissions and unpatch/fix it 2) Update to PolicyKit 0.7, where the exec path isn't anymore a hard requirement I'm reporting it to the g-s-t package as it's where it's visible ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: Confirmed -- /proc/$pid/* gets too restrictive permissions for g-s-t tools https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/181088 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 146803] gnome-power-manager shows 2 batteries instead of 1
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager This problem occurs on Gutsy Beta, not on Feisty; on my laptop which is an Acer Aspire 1692 with (1 !)
