[Bug 182799] Re: Evolution: Messages aren't deleted from POP mail server with SSL encryption after specified number of days

2008-01-15 Thread Amit Tendulkar
It is a Mirapoint email server (company's internal email server:
http://mirapoint.com/) and have POP3-SSL, IMAP-SSL and web mail access.
I have confirmed from my colleagues that the "email deletion after X
days" feature is working from MS Outlook. Even evolution deletes emails
if the "Leave messages on server" is set to unchecked.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-15 Thread Manuel Iglesias Alonso
I did it again!

This time I used (like the first time) directories full of *.desktop files.
After copying and changing ownership of a bunch of files (procedure described
in earlier messages), nautilus went crazy again. It did not happen the first
time, I had to repeat the trick 3 or 4 times.

I suppose desktop files are particularly difficult to show: nautilus has
to read contents to show 'Name' and 'Icon' instead of the real file name
and default document type icon.

Next follows the relevant section of .xsession-errors (Lines not coming from
the XSu instance which launched the root_user_nautilus edited out):
{
 XSu-12288. BEGIN.
XSu-12288.CmdLine: >XSu DefaultFileSystemBrowser /<
XSu-12288: (nautilus:12367): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session
manager:
XSu-12288: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication
protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
XSu-12288: ** (nautilus:12367): WARNING **: No description found for mime type
"x-special/socket" (file is ".gnome-system-monitor.manolo"), please tell the
gnome-vfs mailing list.
XSu-12288: /home/common/bin/DefaultFileSystemBrowser: line 590: 12367 Killed
  $Application $Options "$@"
 XSu-12288. END.
}
As you can see nautilus went crazy again without giving any error messages.

The last line shows when I killed the rogue nautilus process (It was
originally invoked with a switchboard shell script:
DefaultFileSystemBrowser) from the root terminal.

The root_user_nautilus' window went blank like the first time.

Th mail account I used to register (several years ago) is chockful with
spam. If you want details please use glesialoAtgmailDotcom.

Saludos,
Manolo.

Hyperair, I think you are actually seeing a duplicate of bug #182704 and
this could be checked by disabling NumLock. Do your volume keys work
now? If so, it's 182704. I'm still not marking this as a duplicate,
since for me Ctrl+Alt+Whatever works even with NumLock enabled. In any
case, this bug seems related to gnome-control-center, which I am
changing.

[Bug 183126] [NEW] default page size not respected by applications

2008-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I have setup our company printer Xerox Workcenter 7228 with system-
config-printer, I do not know if the PPD file set's the default page
size to 8x11cm (or something like that) but I changed it to A4 in the
"Printer options" tab. However applications (Evolution, Evince,..) do
not respect this setting and still tries to print in 8x11cm which causes
my job to be stalled on the printer. Printer is complaining about the
incorrect paper size and all I can do is to cancel the job on the
printer.

If I use Open Office and set the page size to A4, printing works ok,
however I do not have the option "Paper Size" in printing dialog for
Evince, Evolution and rest of GNOME.

Can you help?

Thank you,

[Bug 183126] Re: default page size not respected by applications

2008-01-15 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is for sure not a problem of system-config-printer. system-config-
printer changes the paper size default in the PPD correctly. The problem
is in the printing infrastructure of GNOME/GTK. They need to provide an
option to set the page size.

Do you have an /etc/papersize file? What is its contents?

[Bug 183136] Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'

2008-01-15 Thread Norbert Hartl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I upgraded to Hardy Heron two days ago. Since then I have problems
working with evolution. The symptoms are that I can get mail via imap
but filtering, moving etc. is not possible.

I get an error 'Error while Storing folder 'INBOX''

I removed the complete ~/.evolution/mail/imap/ directory. After that it
fetched all emails again and filtering succeeded. Shortly after it
doesn't. Next try was to remove cmeta and every index file from the
INBOX. This let me filter my inbox for most of the emails in INBOX. But
only once.

What I can see is that after removing the index the bottom shows

Storing folder 'Inbox'

and shortly after that

Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'

Is it that the folder name gets corrupted or is this just an error
displaying the error message

[Bug 66249] Re: listing a large folder very slow on vfat partition

2008-01-15 Thread abilash0101
I am using gutsy gnome. Whenever I open a folder with mp3 files, the
nautilus becomes very unresponsive. Each click or right click takes a
long time to bring the mp3 under focus or to bring the right-click menu
respectively. This slow-down does not seem to happen in folders with no
mp3.

Previously, I had just 2 mp3 files on my desktop and the whole desktop
was very slow. So, I think it is not related to the folder size. After I
moved the mp3 to a sub-folder, the desktop thankfully became faster
again, but now nautilus becomes slow whenever I open that particular
sub-folder.

Hope this helps. What is vfat by the way? I am not sure if I am using
vfat...

[Bug 183168] Evolution: under certain conditions newgroups show unread messages even after all messages are read

2008-01-15 Thread Amit Tendulkar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This happens only in case of an NNTP server. Suppose my NNTP server is
checked for new messages for every one minute, then after reading a
message (and marking it as read), the newgroup is again showed with one
unread message after the next fetch and until the next-to-next fetch.
Here are the steps elaborated,

Steps to reproduce
- Have NNTP server configured in evolution that is accessed for new messages in
every minute.
- Have a newsgroup with all read messages
- Get a new message posted to the above newsgroup (maybe through different
user/machine).
- After one minute the message should appear in the evolution under the above
newsgroup (this is indicated by making the newsgroup name as BOLD and putting
"(1)" text against it)
- Click on the above newsgroup on LHS pane and highlight the new message so
that it will be marked as read
- The above action will un-bold the newsgroup name and remove the "(1)" text
- Wait for a minute for evolution to contact the NNTP server again

Expected result
- The newsgroup name in LHS pane should remain in regular text (i.e. not bold)
unless any new messages are posted

Actual result
- The newsgroup name is made bold with "(1)" text against it. However, no new
messages are seen on the RHS pane (messages list)
- This phenomenon is observed for different number of messages as well (e.g. if
originally 10 messages then "(10)" will reappear after a minute even if they
are marked as read)
- If you wait for another fetch cycle, then the newsgroup name returns back to
regular text and the "(1)" string vanishes

So the time line can be,
0 minutes: newsgroup with no messages, post test message into the news group
1 minutes: evolution fetches the new message, newsgroup name marked in bold and
the "(1)" string shown against it. Mark the message as read so that newsgroup
name is marked in regular and the "(1)" text vanishes
2 minutes: evolution contacts the NNTP server and didn't get any message.
However newsgroup name marked in bold and the "(1)" string shown against the
name. Here mark "all messages as read" function doesn't work and the name
remains in bold with "(1)" string
3 minutes: evolution contacts the NNTP server and didn't get any message.
Newsgroup name is marked in regular and the "(1)" text vanishes

[Bug 183176] cannot send email - no AUTH attempted

2008-01-15 Thread Lee Maguire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Since upgrading today (2.21.5-0ubuntu1) I cannot send email.

I get prompted for my password by evolution, but then nothing happens.

I switched off TLS in the config and did a tcpdump.

The conversation (slightly anonymised) shows that evolution doesn't even
attempt an auth, it just quits.

[Bug 183136] Re: Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'

2008-01-15 Thread Norbert Hartl
Did a quick check with another account. I discovered no problem. Then I
removed my complete .evolution dir but this didn't help. Now I have
removed the account and the evolution directory and recreated the
account. Looks better now. But it is just 10 Minutes ago. I'll drop a
notice if I get the problem again.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 136529] Re: Can't log in after upgrading

2008-01-15 Thread jtholmes

There appears to be another patch from Stef Walter
this time to gkr-async and the title of the patch is
fix race condition.

I would suspect it will get to ubuntu in the next day or
so. The comment from one of the debian testers was
that it fixed the login etc. problems, however, the original
bug had to do with SSH, and evolution.
So we will see.

The patch for gnome-keyring we got a few days ago
came from the same case in Debian, case 502603
for those that are interested.

I have believed all along that the problem was a race
condition, because just every so often (1 in 100 times)
things would work right with no problems.

Also, when I delayed gnome-keyring startup with a two sec sleep
things work as they should.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-15 Thread manzano
Where do you have a file called .gnome-system-monitor.manolo ??

I can't reproduce manolo's bug with gksu (i.e everything went fine when
copying files in .local/share/applications between users and chown them
to the other user).

I have bad news Manolo:
I did a little bit of 'investigation' on xsu:
It's not updated since around 2003 (and of course, Nautilus evolved since this
time)
xsu is removed from debian (2004) and might be removed from hardy
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xsu/+bug/181495)
I'm sorry Manolo but it looks like you'll need to switch to another su, I
encourage you to test your procedure with gksu.

[Bug 183199] System sounds aren't being played in Hardy.

[Bug 183213] [NEW] Unable to use XIM when screen is locked (xscreensaver)

2008-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xscreensaver

Issue: XIM cannot be used normally under locked screen

Description: Users of languages other than English need an input method
to input characters (e.g. Chinese). Seeing the window of the input
method is necessary to choosing the correct character. When the screen
is locked and using the "Leave message" function, the input method is
activated but its window hidden, which makes choosing the characters
impossible.

Desired result: When using "Leave message" under a locked screen, the
window of the input method can still be seen (rather than hidden in the
background as all the other processes)

[Bug 173374] Re: No region in Localization Preferences

2008-01-15 Thread nxvl
Pedro: don't mark bugs as invalid just because they don't have enough
information, there is an "Incomplete" tag for it, and also if there is
no enough information, ask for it, don't just say "reopen when there is
more", the reporters isn't usually developers so they don't know which
information is needed, so please ask for the information you need
instead of closing bugs saying theres no enough information to solve it,
that isn't the way we work around here.

[Bug 44686] Re: Pressing multimedia buttons on laptop with lid closed should not turn on screen

2008-01-15 Thread Dan Keshet
This is happening for me running Kubuntu gutsy (with Feisty kernel) on a
Dell Inspiron 1521. This seems related to Bug #107399. I think it's
more likely an X, or X-driver problem. I'm using fglrx

[Bug 8839] Re: rhythmbox tag editing has issues with gst0.10

2008-01-15 Thread Sebastien Wains
I have the issue when trying to mass-edit tags (select several similar files
and apply a tag to them).
If I edit them one after the other, it works fine (tested only on MP3 files).

version 0.11.2-0ubuntu4

[Bug 153382] Re: debug log madness after segfault

2008-01-15 Thread ThomasNovin
Just had this issue my self. I have noticed it maybe 10-20 times before.

$ wc -l nautilus-debug-log.txt
26119 nautilus-debug-log.txt

$ tail -3 nautilus-debug-log.txt
0x8177510 2008/01/15 17:03:39.9329 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11
0x8177510 2008/01/15 17:03:39.9446 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11
0x8177510 2008/01/15 17:03:39.9563 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11

After I killed the nautilus process that took 100% CPU with -15 it
stopped.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-15 Thread Manuel Iglesias Alonso
Thanks for your comments Manzano.

My .local/share/applications has 233 *.desktop files. Perhaps that is
the difference. It must be quite a job for nautilus to show and update
them all.

It seems somebody else thought of the same name. I have written XSu
myself. It is a bash shell using 'Xdialog' and 'expect' packages. I have
used if for quite a long time (way before Gutsy and nautilus' craziness)
without any problems.

I encourage any other reader to try to reproduce the fault in the way I have.
The number of *.desktop files to show may be relevant: You can copy, several
times, the files you have until you have quite a bunch.
Note: Don't mess your $HOME/.local directory make a copy somewhere else.

Best regards,
Manolo.

By the way '.gnome-system-monitor.manolo' is in /home/manolo. I guess it
has been produced by gnome-system-monitor.

[Bug 173374] Re: No region in Localization Preferences

2008-01-15 Thread Denis Washington
To make it clear: the Localization Preferences dialog was unfunctional
because nothing was implemented yet. It also won't make it for GNOME
2.22, so we don't build it anymore since 2.21.5 (released today). So
when you update to that version, the non-functional dialog will be gone.

[Bug 173374] Re: No region in Localization Preferences

2008-01-15 Thread Johnathon
Nicolas: Pedro followed the triage how-to's and documentation, which was set
out ages and ages ago. (I've not re-read them in a while. If I need to, please
put an email out on the bugsquad list.) I myself have closed bugs because I've:
1) Asked a question, which has not been answered.
and
2) Waited 30 days.

We do it, to 1) try and poke someone in giving us relevant information
(there's nothing quite like "status = New > Invalid" in an email to get
someone moving!), and 2) to keep our bug lists clear of those bugs on
which we are NOT actively working on. (I, when I'm triaging, tend to
open a FF tab for each bug which is still New/Incomplete.)

Personally, I'd have probably searched for an upstream report, and if I
hadn't found one, submitted one myself, or tagged the bug as needing to
go upstream, rather than closing it, but Pedro followed the triager's
sequence. (And I will defend his actions here to the hilt, as I have
closed bugs in this manner myself, using the exact same template
response that Pedro used.)

[Bug 173374] Re: No region in Localization Preferences

Sorry, I should say *"Incomplete > invalid", as a bug goes to incomplete
once a triager is looking at it.
