[Bug 159788] Re: Cannot copy or move files without renaming them when they have special characters
I can confirm this issue running Nautilus 2.21.6 on Hardy Alpha. I attempted to move both an ogg file and a text file with characters such as : " ? and received the same error message. This only occurred when moving to a FAT32 drive. The file transfer for both the text and audio file worked as expected when moving to a NTFS external drive. This appears to be a FAT32 problem. [Bug 186921] [NEW] Asking for password with missing archive volume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy file-roller 2.20.1-0ubuntu1 When extracting a volume set of rar archives and file-roller encounters a missing archive volume, it erroneously asks for a password and displays only a password entry box. It does not report -which- volume is missing and upon adding that volume and hitting enter, it exits instead of continuing the extraction process. Comparing this behaviour to WinRAR which will prompt you for the missing volume and continue the extraction process when you've entered a path to that volume (desired behaviour). Also, the progress reporting bar in file-roller erroneously just rolls back and forth instead of reporting the current progress and volume being processed. (There's a bug report on this behaviour here and on bugzilla with a couple of suggested patches but that hasn't been updated since 2006-xx-xx) I've found I've become more prone to using the rar command rather than file-roller because of this behaviour. [Bug 186897] [NEW] Behaviour in "Places" / "Favorite Shortcuts" not as expected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Hi! When attempting to reorganize the bookmarks/shortcuts in the "Places" toolbar on the left side of the Nautilus window, I noticed an unexpected/undesired effect. I'm unable to reorganize the shortcuts in the order I choose. When moving a shortcut, say, for instance, moving the 3rd from the top to the bottom of the list, instead of moving the shortcut I selected, Nautilus will select one of the shortcuts inbetween the 3rd from the top and the bottom one and move that up a few steps. It was a seemingly random selection and destination at first, but upon closer inspection, the moved shortcut was always the same one and was always moved to the same place. If I move the 2nd from the top, a different shortcut is selected and moved to a different place, and so on. In short, I can't move the shortcut I want, to where I want it to be in the list. A little odd. Since I can't (at least not at a quick glance) find the place where these shortcuts are stored, I'm reporting it as a bug, as it is, in fact, an undesired behaviour. (The only thing I found was an .xml file in the ~/.nautilus configuration directory containing the "default" Places shortcuts (those for mounted drives and such) and the user-created shortcuts were nowhere in that file). I suppose I can find the file where these shortcuts are stored if I try a little harder, but it's still an undesired and quite annoying "feature". :) Running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy with the latest Nautilus version from the apt repository (1:2.20.0-0ubuntu7) Thanks. //Sparhawk ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Behaviour in "Places" / "Favorite Shortcuts" not as expected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 186822] [NEW] gnome-keybinding-properties won't accept a Window+something shortcut
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Hi, I like to use the intuitive Window+Up/Down shortcut to raise/lower a Window. Yet, on Ubuntu 7.10, gnome-keybinding-properties, when selecting the corresponding entry, won't accept a key-combination based on the Window (aka Super) key (ie. it will simply accepts "Super L", not "SuperL+Up"). It would works correctly when using Alt instead of Window, though. Tested in both French and English locales. This is inconvenient, since Window is a better key for Window-based management as Alt is often already used and less intuitive. [Bug 119636] Re: Evolution Crashes on Startup
Today I installed Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 and set evolution to receive e-mail from my gmail account. I didn't make this my default account so the program created a new set of folders with new Inbox and some other new folders. It had been working just fine until a little while ago. I was reading my incoming mail (in gmail inbox) when it suddenly crashed. Now every time I restart evo through graphic environment or through the terminal, it checks for incoming mail and, if the gmail inbox folder is selected then it crashes right away, but, if some other folder is selected then there is no crash. When I start the program through the terminal and there is a crash, I get the following output: CalDAV Eplugin starting up ... evolution-shell-Message: Killing old version of evolution-data-server... [Bug 185339] Re: [Hardy] "File operations" window always on top and unminimizable
I thought about this some more. I think it's problematic if this stays as such an isolated case in Gnome window management as it is today. E.g., when I have discovered this feature (against all odds), can I then apply this knowledge to other windows and click their Close button to minimize them to the "tray" (notification area, in fact)? If Nautilus alone is going to use this, then it definitely has to try and integrate more consistently. Wouldn't it make more sense, then, if the file copy window had no close or maximize buttons, but only a minimize button which would minimize the window to the notification area? I understand that it saves on clutter in the panel's window list applet, but one thing I resent is that now I can't see the copy progress without mouse action (grabbing, moving, clicking). In the old version, the fill status of the button in the window list would give an indication by just looking. Maybe the notification area icon could at least show an overall progress in some way. -- [Hardy] "File operations" window always on top and unminimizable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185339 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 66104] Why is this bug only "medium" importance??
I don't understand why this bug is labelled only medium importance. It should be critical or important, at least. The workarounds don't really solve the problem. This bug seriously threatens to scare off users who need multiple input methods - they may not be the majority, but they are an important segment of the linux population. On windows, input methods always work flawlessly for me. If I look at the "critical" bugs, there are things like "synaptics touch pad(laptop) clicks too easily", and if I look at the "high" importance section, there are shocking problems like "Cannot create a user "håkan"". Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to offend anyone. But I seriously believe that the standard, pre-installed input method changer in Ubuntu absolutely needs to work properly if Ubuntu wants to be what it wants to be. I'm looking forward to downloading the solution to this problem, and thank you to anyone who helps to solve it! Christoph P.S. Did anyone notice some other simptoms beside nautilus hogging all the CPU? Killing it in /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default solved the logout problem for me. [Bug 185339] Re: [Hardy] "File operations" window always on top and unminimizable
I don't want to judge prematurely since I don't know the greater context, but on first glance this seems like the winner of the Window Operation Obfuscation Competition. It might make a bit of sense if this was done Gnome-wide, but if only in Nautilus I am afraid few people will get it. I guess I have the most doubts about "clicking the close button in the file move dialog closes it, leaving the icon in the tray until the action is finished". I would _never_ click the window close button since I'd be afraid of canceling the copy. This might fly in a Mac world, since at least until OS9 (dunno about OSX) they had a quite consistent separation of window vs. application (though I think many people didn't get that either and consequently left applications running), but people used to Windows aver very much used to closing window == exit. -- [Hardy] "File operations" window always on top and unminimizable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185339 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
