[Bug 189599] Re: [Hardy] Ubuntu does not remember the screen resolution

2008-02-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
You probably have used the gnome resolution setting tool (system -
preferences - screen resolution?). Check that, and set the resolution
there and you should be fine.

[Bug 185661] Re: Time bar slider appears disabled when playing a video in Totem

2008-02-08 Thread TomasCassidy
I disabled the desktop effects by going into
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects and selecting None. The
problem seemed to disappear after doing this. I then re-enabled the
desktop effects by changing the "None" to "Normal" and the bug re-
appeared.

[Bug 190383] [NEW] last.fm plugin no longer scrobbles

2008-02-08 Thread Eythian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Up until about the start of this week, the last.fm plugin would
correctly send track details, however now it doesn't on either of my
computers. It just claims 'Track submission failed too many times'. If I
delete the submission cache, it'll work for a while, however the
'queued' track number just increases, as if it encountered an error, and
eventually it stops trying. I had a look (with wireshark) at what was
going over the wire, and it all looked correct, with last.fm returning
an 'OK' response, however rhythmbox still doesn't realise it succeeded.

My guess is that the response from last.fm has changed slightly and
rhythmbox isn't understanding it any more (although it still seems to be
in keeping with the protocol).

This is Rhythmbox 0.11.2 on gutsy, both AMD64 and x86.

[Bug 189777] Re: gnome-panel freezes during keyring password entry

2008-02-08 Thread Rocko
gnome-panel doesn't crash, so would a backtrace be of any use? (gnome-
panel simply freezes until I enter the keyring password and click on OK,
after which it goes back to responding normally.)

Also, since this happens immediately on reboot and I don't manually run
gnome-panel, how should I run it to get the backtrace?

[Bug 190366] [NEW] Nautilus does not identify partitions, except by size

2008-02-08 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In "my computer" I have a large number of hdd partitions, many of them
the same size. As the name of the partition (in nautilus) contains only
the size, this means that many have the same name. In the details view
the type is listed as unknown, however the type of the partitions could
be retrieved from e.g. 'mount' or fdisk.

Also I cannot right click the partitions and get details such as which
device the partition is on. This makes it hard to tell which partition
is which.

This is on Hardy (alpha liveCD) with nautilus 1:2.21.90-0ubuntu1

I would expect nautilus to:
1) give a different name to each partition
2) make it easy to get detailed info on the partition (such as device name)
3) give extra information in detailed view over icon view.

[Bug 176735] Re: wrong glyphs

2008-02-08 Thread Andrew Clausen
I'm a little surprised you are asking for clarification... this problem
has been around in Poppler across many versions, and the whole document
looks terrible. Are you really having trouble finding problems?

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 with all updates. I'm using the 0.6-0ubuntu2.1
version of the libpoppler2 package.

The fonts are all poorly spaced in the linked document.
The last character on the first line should be an asterisk rather than a box.
The characters after "Robinson" and "Verdier" in the second line should be "1"
and "2" rather "x" and "y".
In the first footnote, Jeff Freiden's name is rendered as "Je* Feiden", where *
is some weird circle shape.

[Bug 163095] Re: "The folder contents could not be displayed"

2008-02-08 Thread Alvin Lee C. K.
Please look at this link for the full details.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=592098

In brief, the issue at faultis the sound preview function (by Nautilus,
I presume). Issuing "killall nautilus" in a terminal only temporarily
eliminates the problem. It may be solved by disabling the preview
function as follows:

Edit >> Preferences >> Preview Tab >> Set Preview Sound Files to
'Never'.

Personally, I've reverted back to Feisty Fawn because of a whole list of
other problems presented in Gutsy Gibbon.

[Bug 190332] [NEW] Totem fullscreen malfunction

[Bug 186650] [NEW] [Gutsy] font size suddenly shrinks for each new window

2008-02-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Occasionally, newly opened windows start to have very tiny fonts. From
that moment on, each newly started program will have small fonts that
are very difficult to read. Previously running programs (i.e. windows
that have been open since before the anomaly appeared) are uneffected.

Restarting X restores everything to normal.
Could not find a way to predictably reproduce the bug.
Could not spot any similar bugs on Launchpad.

Notable observations:
 * K menu, panel, taskbar etc. unaffected, since it has been running long
before the anomaly occurred
 * the 'tiny' fonts appearing in various windows are not even the same size
 * the customly rendered document area of OpenOffice.Org is unaffected; menus
etc. affected
 * new tabs in previously running akregator are NOT affected; new tabs of
previously running firefox ARE affected
 * message body area of previously running Thunderbird IS affected, while
menus, etc. are not
 * i'm writing this report in firefox, using ctrl+mousewheel to magnify
document area fonts back to normal (menus are still illegible)
 * it IS possible to restore normal font sizes by manually setting them (e.g.
in kcontrol) to size 14 or so (they appear to have been set to size 9)

Possible culprit: Totem (2.20), I recall running it every time the bug
occurred, and I do not usually do that.

Using Ubuntu Gutsy, with kubuntu-desktop installed, running the KDE environment.
Logs, screenshot coming up.

[Bug 188101] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't show any items in menubar

2008-02-08 Thread hoffmajs
I can confirm it, too.
I found out that it is related to "Edit" -> "Keyboard Shortcuts" -> "[] Disable
all menu acccess keys", i.e.
if i select it and start a new gnome-terminal, the new terminal will have empty
menus.
if i then uncheck it, the menu text will appear immediately.
It seems to be unrelated to locale settings. (I tested it with en_US.UTF-8 and

Gnome asked whether to use the X settings or the custom Gnome settings.
This ain't the case, anymore.

For a quick fix, just edit the settings in your xorg.conf.

[Bug 190296] [NEW] Evince PDF Printing -> Cups on 64 bit typically results in Error

2008-02-08 Thread Michael S Costello
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I frequenty run into this error when attempting to print using Ubuntu
7.01 gutsy 64 bit:

Pages that print out end up with the following content:

ERROR NAME;
   ioerror
COMMAND;
  fill
OPERAND STACK;

Printing using Gimp's gutenprint functionality works flawlessly, by
comparison, and CUPS print test page works similarly well with my 64 bit
arch.

Any assistance I can offer with system setup details and/or sample
testcase files (typically this happens with .pdf rather than .ps I
*think*) are gladly offered.

[Bug 35463] Re: Folders have wrong default program and the association can't be changed

2008-02-08 Thread mvdberg112
Have same problem:
[QUOTE]" Could not open location 'file:///home/myuser'
" There was an error launching the default action command associated with this
location." [/QUOTE]

See also dicussion:
http://ubuntuforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=3931757

How to install the fix?
I see a 'Completed'  action on 20-01-2008 for "gnome-bugs #335161", but not
sure where and how it is implemented. Let me know if this might be actually a
different bug.

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon - should this be fixed in the mean
time.

Cannot change the default action in Nautilus or GNome.
The precise steps are:
 Open a folder in Nautillus (for example with Places -> Computer);
 browse to the folder that does not behave properly (in my case
file:///home/myuser)
 Select File -> Properties -> Open With; here one should be able to add and
remove items. It is possible to Add items, but they cannot be selected. Two
items cannot be removed: 'Open Folder' and 'Open Folder with Thunar', which is
selected by the radio button. It is not possible to move the radio button and
select any other option.

[Bug 150187] Re: [gutsy] [regression] Evince has very bad quality when printing pdf files.

2008-02-08 Thread b
Notice for me the grey text is totally invisible in the photo, lighter
than the text on the page underneath the one I'm photographing!!

some words (italics) are unreadable because they are so blurry.

Looking close to the output it looks like the text is dithered, no hard
edges, no stark black, no edge. The printer is set to 600dpi, so I
should be seeing crisp glyphs, not blurry half-tone.

This is on gutsy with the gdi driver for ML-2010.

[Bug 150187] Re: [gutsy] [regression] Evince has very bad quality when printing pdf files.

2008-02-08 Thread b
I can confirm this issue, with evince and my ml-2010.

I'll attach some test images, but my quality issues seem even worse than
the ones posted here. The type from my lyx document is almost
unreadable. I decided to take a break from trying to read it to post
here (I have a headache!).

I don't print very often, so I'm pretty annoyed that now apparently I
can't.

2008-02-08 Thread undergraver
I can confirm also this bug on Hardy (latest).

>From my experience, these kind of bugs should have a higher importance
since they affect the user directly.

They shouldn't have greater priority than crashes or show stopper bugs,
but they *should* have a higher priority ( Low importance is NOT
appropriate ).

Yes, it would seem that's at least one of the causes. Could that patch
be included directly in Ubuntu, until it propagates through from
upstream (if it didn't already)? It's just a one-liner.

To fix this problem, you can set in /etc/environment :

LANG="en_CA.UTF-8"

Of course, add your own language/country code. Reboot so the change can
take effect.

This bug should remain open however; there should be a default
"LANG=.UTF-8".  UTF-8 should be the
default, out of the box.

[Bug 190240] [NEW] Rhythmbox podcast reciever fails to download enapsulated data that includes a redirect

2008-02-08 Thread Jim J
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This appears like it is related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/64096 as the
problem seems to be that Rhythmbox's podcast feed parser isn't correctly
handling redirects that use a question mark (?) in them.

The most recent example that I see is in trying to download the Linux
News Log podcast using their MP3 feed
(http://linux.quicksurf.com/?feed=rss2&cat=78).

You'll notice that the download links for the individual files look like this:
http://media.techpodcasts.com/linuxnewslog/www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3?http://audio.quicksurf.com/audiocasts/Linux-News-Log-147-2008-01-29.mp3

The redirect.mp3?http:// in that line appears to be the hangup.

Web browsers will download the files fine (though Firefox names the resulting
feed redirect.mp3 instead of the actual filename of

Never explain, your friends will understand. Your enemies will never believe
you anyway.

[Bug 185756] Re: Couldn't display "network:///" - Nautilus cannot handle network:locations

2008-02-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The bug tracker is not an user forum to discuss whatever is wrong on
your configuration. I'm reading the comments there because I'm working
on this package and I'll make sure the issue is fixed for hardy. The bug
is marked as triaged and has been sent upstream which means there is no
need for other informations there, the goal of the bug tracker is to
describe technical issues and get enough informations to work on those
so maintainers can fix the bugs, not to have users discussed whatever is
not working. There has been 8 comments added there since the bug has
been set to triaged with the upstream url, which means 8 mails have been
sent to people who receive already some thousand of those a week, there
is no need for that, that's only making the job harder. Now if you find
other issue and want to share those that's good, look at the bug list to
know if there is already a bug about that and open a new one if there is
none yet. The issues about obex, font, ftp are already known for example

[Bug 189734] Re: Mahjongg's timer stops working

2008-02-08 Thread Alperen Yusuf Aybar
I'm running Gutsy with Mahjongg 2.20.3

I've just have a look at Mahjongg's source code from SVN

on line 1233;
game_over = GAME_DEAD;
games_clock_stop (GAMES_CLOCK (chrono));
mb = gtk_message_dialog_new (GTK_WINDOW (window),
 GTK_DIALOG_MODAL |
 GTK_DIALOG_DESTROY_WITH_PARENT,
 GTK_MESSAGE_ERROR, GTK_BUTTONS_OK,
 (_
  ("Sorry, I was unable to find a playable
configuration.")));
gtk_dialog_run (GTK_DIALOG (mb));
gtk_widget_destroy (mb);

If it's a game over situation, then undo button must be destroyed too.
But I prefer continue playing with a penalty by going back to previous moves.

[Bug 188542] Re: Icon themes are broken

2008-02-08 Thread Mahdi
I am also using the latest hardy.
More than the problem described, the "Computer", "Home", "Network" and media
icons on the desktop are broken: the right icon is not shown, and a default
(ugly) png icon is shown. Is there any workaround for that? I tested the
Dropline Nuovo, Neu, Spherecrystal, Gartoon, and others and they all have the
same issue!
