[Bug 192316] [NEW] Application launchers show incorrect icon when dragged and dropped from Add to Panel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel When I drag and drop an item from the Application Launcher section of the Add to Panel window, instead of showing the application's icon on the new launcher, it shows a yellow diamond with a question mark on it. When I hover my mouse over it, it shows (using the example of Calculator): (null) Open '/usr/share/applications/gcalctool.desktop' When you add the launcher using the Add button in the Add to Panel window, the launcher is added correctly. Steps to reproduce: 1. Right-click an empty space in the panel and select Add to Panel... 2. Click Application Launcher 3. Drag an application to the panel Expected result: The application button displays in the panel with the application's icon, and the name of the application in the tooltip Actual result: A yellow diamond with a question mark in it is displayed in the panel, and the tooltip displays (null) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Feb 16 00:13:05 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: gnome-panel 1:2.21.91-0ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: i386 SourcePackage: gnome-panel Uname: Linux ryan-desktop 2.6.24-8-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 14 20:40:45 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Application launchers show incorrect icon when dragged and dropped from Add to Panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I wouldn't say that it's massively deficient, but it does have several serious bugs. Several problems are already known. 3) How could it be easier to use? What extra features could it have? 4) Yes, you did :) I'm not sure that integration with Add/Remove programs is such a good idea. [Bug 118988] Re: No way to disable trash in nautilus
It's a shame this is listed as 'wishlist'. It's more than a matter of 'preference' when it comes to removable media. New users are often confused why they can't add files to their removable devices even though it shows enough free space. The reason is because nautilus creates a hidden trash folder on their devices and users need to figure out that it's there (if they're coming from Windows, (Mac, KDE?) they wouldn't because that's not the standard behaviour. As it stands, I know have to remember to always right-click and delete completely, but sometimes I find that others have simply deleted files off my memory stick and I have to empty the trash to free up the memory. -- No way to disable trash in nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 192358] Re: Tooltips are not a user manual
« The intend is to make easier for users to discover those feature, the tooltip is not optimal and we have been discussing this. » My take on this one would be: - people that interract with the desktop mostly using the mouse will discover the mouse features by themselves. - I think people that want to use keyboard shortcuts have been used to search them. And the shortcuts can be found either by reading the user manual which is available directly using the popup menu, or by using the keyboard shortcut dialog in system-preferences. So I don't think we really need to add yet another way to discover the features. But that's only my opinion, not the result of a usability study :) « We are considering using the context menu to list those actions, what do you think about that? » That would be better, yes. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 111896] Re: menu editor massively defective
Thanks for responding - I know this is kinda old now, but it's still true in 7.10. As for being extremely slow, the more programs you install, the more entries there are, and this seem to slow it down, a lot. could this be fixed some how? Furthermore, after adding a couple custom entries to the menu, say, 3, 4, 6, or more, just clicking the menu button on the panel for the first time after every logon takes a long time to load. Ah, Why??? I'm just kind of worked up a bout this because it's just such a fast efficient high-class operating system, you would not expect there to be major flaws like this menus in it still! As for the moving of items, once you figure it out, it's not so bad, but it's still slow to do this, and it often will /still/ not work, or duplicate the launchers, etc. As for the new window appearing /under/ the main window, why are we doing this now? Just to confuse people? I mean, I can find it because I actually check the window list but a lot of people will expect it to just open and show up, including me... It doesn't seem to always do this, but most of the time... Now that I think about it, I think it's the desktop effects that cause it for some reason - another bug. As for #3, fixing all these problems would make it easier to use, an could it possibly be a little better integrated with Add/Remove, and really, just make it more snappy and responsive, and that would be such a big deal!! -- menu editor massively defective https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111896 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for alacarte in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 62430] Re: rhythmbox doesn't do anything with .pls given on the command line
1. Rhythmbox does not really do anything with a local .pls file. 2. Opening the the .pls file in Totem opens and plays the file. Possible solutions: A.
