[Bug 192764] Re: nautilus crashes with anything to do with /home/user/Desktop

2008-02-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 192856] [NEW] Ubuntu got frozen when opened hyperlink in the running session of Mozila while downloading updates with synaptic

2008-02-18 Thread TEPEM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Newly installed Ubuntu 7.10 warned about updtaes awailable on the 1st start.
I started Mozilla, logged on to my ADSL provider page and activated Connection.
Then I started Synaptic update dowload and selected components to be downloaded
and intalled. I left comp for about 10 or 15 mins and then on my return back I
switched to Mozilla and clicked "Documentation" on ubuntu.ru webpage which
caused kind of restart of both Mozila and Synaptic.
I started synaptic again and recovered My previous session in Mozilla. Left
comp again for another 10 mins and on return back noted that comp is frozen and
doesn't answer to mouse moves or keyboard commands. Tried
"CTRL"+"Alt"+"Backspace" with no success and rebooted PC from the tower

[Bug 192764] Re: nautilus crashes with anything to do with /home/user/Desktop

2008-02-18 Thread mmnz
Hi,

There is no .crash file in /var/crash.

I notice in the last line of the terminal output its says:
b5cdd000-b5d05000 r-xp 03:02 561682
/usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2.Aborted (core dumped)

core dumped? Does this mean i can find a 'core' and upload that?
Perhaps this is useful? Where are these core's dumped to?

[Bug 35876] Re: 'Downloading package information' and 'building dependency tree' progress dialogs steal focus

2008-02-18 Thread Olivier
I confirm the bug exists on gutsy and is realy annoying since we need to run
that application almost every day and each time it steals the focus.
update manager is key application in ubuntu so I would expect it to behave
cleanly. Currently it looks like a program from 1980 with subwindows/ dialogs
poping up everywhere and terminal output that does not event tell us when the
process is finished.

2008-02-18 Thread Nik Ahmad Faris
Okay here is an update.

It seems that I can connect to my phone (SE w810i) again (after
switching off the phone and switching it back on); but I cannot leave
the connection idle or I will end up with the same error message.

So, its like I have to do my browsing as fast as possible or I am going
to lose my connection and forced to restart my phone again.

I really am not sure where the problem is coming from.

Ive always found, that its only on applets who's name is long enough to
need two lines whos fonts are wrong, for example if you set all the
gnomt font properties to 8 and restart then the only ones who's fonts
are wrong for me 9though i dont have many of your ones installed) is

Battery Charge Monitor
CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor
Keyboard Accessibility Status

which are the longest names, thats the only thing they have in common as
far as i have been able to see

[Bug 192878] [NEW] Epiphany freezes on opening toolbar entry.

2008-02-18 Thread Martin Schaaf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

I have a toolbar with a lot of search fields and some bookmarks in
folders. The toolbar isn't so wide that all entries are displayed. I can
reach the hiiden entries by a arrow on the rigth side. If I select this
arrow and then a folder in the expanded toolbar and a wait some seconds
epiphany freezes. The selected folder isn't displayed anymore. The main
problem is that I cannot do anything anymore. I cannot kill epiphany or
change the desk or start any other application. I think the open toolbar
prevent me from this. I have to change to a virtual console to kill
epiphany. Epiphany prints the following out on console before it
freezes.

sys:1: GtkWarning: gtk_widget_event: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

[Bug 192748] Re: nautilus recusant opening directory

2008-02-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 192891] [NEW] right click on side menu opens folder, not "actions"

In nautilus, right click on an item from the side panel givers normally
acces to a set of actions, especially "Open in new window".

[Bug 192900] [NEW] automatically use image (e.g. folder.jpg) as a folder image

2008-02-18 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a music collection in my Music folder in about 150 folders, one
for each album I have. For each of them I used Cowbell to normalise
filenames, and that program also automatically saves an image file which
corresponds to the album cover and is called "cover.jpg". As far as I
know, Rhythmbox does something similar: it fetches album art from the
Internet and -if you want- saves it.

I've usually used the folder preferences to use those images as custom
icons for their respective folders, but it can become a burdensome task
when there's a high number of folders. It would be really handy for
nautilus to recognise specific filenames "cover.jpg, cover.png,
folder.png...) and automatically use those files as folder icons. Maybe
even detect names based on the system language, e.g. use "caratula.jpg"
if your system is in Spanish. Something similar to what xdg-user-dirs
does?

[Bug 160738] Re: context menu positioned next to mouse pointer when using keyboard in stead of next to keyboard position (nautilus, gnome menus, ...)

2008-02-18 Thread gwi
I would also like to see this fixed. The menu location should logically (IMO)
be tied to the object it will act upon (where the focus of the user's attention
is), not to the (arbitrary position of the) mouse pointer.
If the context menu is activated by using the right mouse key, both locations
are (more or less) the same. If the menu is activated by the menu key, the
mouse pointer can be in another location.
Ideally the upper left corner of the menu appears in the center of the bounding
box of the related object (e.g. a the text of a listview item, a desktop icon).

This error has also occurred on my Gutsy gibbon install, after creating
a new user, the icons that should appear in the Notification Area take a
long time to load; This leads me to think that it is not the Wireless
drivers that are causing the problem, as I am using Ethernet with
forcedeth drivers on my desktop.

Public bug reported:

i opened a pdf which shows correctly in evince. the printing is messed up.
(hard to include the printout here!)

some full paragraphs are messed, it seemes that every word is reversed
(with some other effects) some strange characters interspersed and too
much kerning to overpritn

it may be a duplicate of bug 22060 - but this was said to be fixed for

the rest of the details i think you take from evince. the pdf file is attached

[Bug 187858] Re: Notification Area intermittent right click error- Panel's menu displayed instead of the application's in Area.

2008-02-18 Thread Siegfried Rutherford Sheldrake
I haven't managed to identify the exact configuration that is causing
this; I have created a new user and migrated all my personal settings to
it, excluding the ".*" files in my ~/ directory.

This has fixed both this bug and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/187862 (bug
187862)

However this appears to have lead to another bug coming into effect:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/192172 (bug
192172)

I am not exactly sure what has caused this. However, I would recommend
anyone else who has experienced this bug to create a new user and
migrate all files across to it. :)

2008-02-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 192232] Re: wnck tooltips nitpicks

2008-02-18 Thread Mirco Müller
I'm working on this among other things.

Comments to...

1.) With that reasoning we would have to make menu-accelerators "vanish"
too, once the user learned to remember them.

2.) That's fixable and actually currently being fixed by me. Only
automatically figuring out what the workspace/viewport layout looks like
(thus hiding some of the "Go to workspace"-accelerators) is a messy
task. I will see what I can do.

3.) You're right, but this is fixed in the code already, only not yet
pushed into the public.

4.) The amount of space taken by the additional information exposed in
the tooltips is a difficult balance-act.
