Hi all,

this bug is still an issue, al least for me. I'm still using the

I'll download the latest develompent release now and report the results

[Bug 175031] Re: file-roller right-click extract here (for RAR) does not work

2008-02-22 Thread Gaspard Leon
Hi,

Since then I noticed an issue with file roller... when you click extract in the
gui, it brings up a folder chooser
if you click the extract button on the dialog *it does nothing*...
UNTIL you have to go out of the starting folder, go back into it by double
clicking the actual folder, (clicking the bread-crumb doesn't work)

This is confusing until you know about this issue, once you know about
it it's simply annoying.

Cheers,
Gaspard

[Bug 194121] Re: Nautilus crashes and loses file during nfs copy

2008-02-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 194187] [NEW] livecd gdm failure after low-graphics dialog

2008-02-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Attempting to install Hardy Alpha4 amd64 on Dell Latitude D630, NVIDIA
Quadro NVS 135M, 1440x900 screen.

If I allow the default "Start or install ubuntu" entry to run, with or
without specifying a VGA mode of 1440x900x32 using F4, I arrive at a
dialog titled "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" which offers me a
choice of configuring, continuing, or rebooting.

If I reconfigure at this point, choosing the nv display driver and the
correct screen resolution, a test succeeds perfectly, but nothing
happens when I continue from the dialog.

Switching to VT1 and examining logs, I found that gdm had exited because
there was already a gdm running. Ps axuw revealed two gdm processes
running at this point, one sleeping the other in state T.

Killing the existing gdm processes and running /etc/init.d/gdm start
brought up the desktop, but other parts of the system start had
apparently been skipped -- I couldn't get the NetworkManager deskbar
applet to respond.

I'll be happy to rerun this and retrieve any log information I can.

[Bug 194322] [NEW] Separate "tray" from Notification Area (micromize)

2008-02-22 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Windows uses the system tray to hide applications you want to get out of
your way, but don't want to close. That's fine, I like that feature.
However, in Ubuntu and GNOME, we don't really have a tray. We have the
notification area, which very much resembles the system tray in Windows,
but it should be used when updates are available, a reboot is required,
marsian attacks, etc. It would be nice if we could have one for both
features. I for one, love Alltray. Being able to hide firefox or
evolution is nice, but I should be able to move those icons away from
the notification area, making the notifications more visible.

How about a fork of Notification Area to be used for exactly that? What
Windows calls "minimize to tray", we'll call "Micromizing", and
micromized applications are called "Micro icons", or "Microns". This
could be really nice when combined with an application like Alltray,
which could be renamed to "Micromizer".

[Bug 184219] Re: brightness applet crashes on login

2008-02-22 Thread Hristo Hristov
It did happen one more time with up-to-date and restarted system. The
crash occured after 4 or 5 logouts and logins. But this time the applet
was not restarted and no offer to make bug report was made, just plain
question if I want to remove the applet or to keep it, like in Debian (I
guess the bug report system is Ubuntu specific).

2008-02-22 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 194350] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does nothing when my battery runs out

2008-02-22 Thread ThomasNovin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have set gnome-power-manager to suspend to ram when battery reaches
critical level. However, nothing happens.

I have two batteries in /proc/acpi/batteries but only one present.

This is how it looked just before the system ran out of battery
completely:

/proc/acpi/battery/C1BE/info
present: yes
design capacity: 4137 mAh
last full capacity: 4137 mAh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 14400 mV
design capacity warning: 207 mAh
design capacity low: 42 mAh
capacity granularity 1: 100 mAh
capacity granularity 2: 100 mAh
model number:Primary
serial number: 02847 2006/09/26
battery type:LIon
OEM info:Hewlett-Packard

/proc/acpi/battery/C1BE/state
present: yes
capacity state: critical
charging state: discharging
present rate:1371 mA
remaining capacity: 0 mAh
present voltage: 14107 mV

I have read bug 135548 but I'm not sure this is the same because there
is a workaround there to set use_time_policy to false and that has no
effect on my setup.

I have a HP nc8430 laptop

[Bug 140644] Re: xset fails to turn off LCD screen

2008-02-22 Thread Basilio Kublik
Hi there
As Bryce point out, i ask to test in the live cd, just for your convenience,
but a installed hardy is a better test environment for this. I cant reproduce
this though, both gnome-power-manager or xset works fine turning off the
backlight of my laptop, may it be a driver issue rather than
gnome-power-manager?, at this point i don't really know, but i guess is a
possibility, anyway, you can take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager to see what information
could be of help and how to obtain it so you can include it on this report as
separated attachments.

Thanks again for your feedback.
