[Bug 194979] Re: "Home Folder" keyboard shortcut does not work

2008-03-14 Thread Arrdee
Same problem here. Hardy Alpha 6, didn't work when I upgraded from
Gutsy, and didn't work when I did a clean install from an iso.

For what it's worth, Dell XPS M1210 is the system I'm having the issue
on. Possible laptop issue?

2008-03-14 Thread Tony Archer
Hi,

I will try when the hardy beta comes out, but currently yes, it is an
issue with the gutsy build. It happens when I progress video but then
take the mouse out of the progress area while the button is depressed.
I will write another email when I upgrade to the beta in a week.

Thanks,

[Bug 198054] Re: Aspect Ratio selection broken

2008-03-14 Thread kripkenstein
Yes, the bug still exists on a fully updated Hardy.

I am running totem-2.22.0-0ubuntu2. Totem itself says in the About
dialog that it is Totem 2.21.5.

Let me clarify the bug report a little, as I re-read it now I see I
forgot a small detail:

When going to View->Aspect Ratio, initially *none* of the options are
selected. Selecting one then has no effect on the actual aspect ratio,
but the option remains selected. Selecting another does not remove the
prior selection, and also has no actual effect on the video. After
trying them all, you can end up with all of the radiobuttons selected,
and you still have not had any real effect on the viewed video. So

(1) the radiobuttons do not behave right - at first none is selected, and then
you can select more than one, and you cannot unselect them, and
(2) no selection has any actual change on the aspect ratio of the viewed video

This occurs for every video I have tried. However I probably do not have
a great variety of codecs etc., so here is for example the video I am
currently watching: 640x352, XviD MPEG-4, 25 frames/sec, Bitrate: N/A.
That is, it's a widescreen video. Thankfully Totem detected the aspect
ratio correctly, or else it would be unwatchable (since I can't change
the aspect ratio manually due to this bug).

I could not reproduce the problem with an up to date Hardy as a VMWare
guest.

It would however mark the downloads as failed until mp3 codecs were
installed. I didn't need the codecs as the files are intended for an
ipod but that is a trivial matter and easily worked around.

[Bug 10669] Re: Filters are not applied to new mail on Exchange

2008-03-14 Thread oudalrich
I tried deleting the summary and summary-meta files as described above
hoping to get filtering to work with Gutsy. Unfortunately, not only did
the filtering remain broken, but now my mails were out of sync with the
server. Everything I'd received since yesterday was gone. I could not
get it to re-sync. The only thing that worked was putting the old
summary and summary-meta files back that I'd deleted. So the message is:

DO NOT DELETE SUMMARY AND/OR SUMMARY-META!

[Bug 131885] Re: Backlight no longer under my control on battery

2008-03-14 Thread Jean-Christophe Baptiste
Thank you for this patch, quite an improvement.

However I disagree with the point of view of Keenan, I think the big
issue is that the gnome brightness setting is still not synchronized
with the hardware setting (set with the keyboard).

This is pretty confusing for the user to set brightness to 100% with the
keyboard, and that every time g-p-m is doing some action, it resets it to,
let's say, 50%.
Both should be synchronized, there should be a unique way to set the system
brightness.

It is less annoying if you use the brightness applet, because it seems
to prevent g-p-m to take over the hardware setting.

But again my point of view is that such an applet should even not exist : there
are 3 now ways to set the brightness !!!
And also, using 14 Mo of RAM for a usability workaround is not acceptable.

[Bug 199960] Re: error starting GNOME Settings Daemon

2008-03-14 Thread smoku
I think the problem might be elsewhere that suggested before.

1. On the GDM login screen change your session type to "Failsafe terminal"
(The one that launches only one, bare xterm window)
2. Log in.
3. In the xterm window type 'gnome-session' and press enter...
4. Voila... GNOME starts correctly, everything works fine.
gnome-settings-dameon too.

So... The problem might actually be somewhere in the logon sequence.

[Bug 201824] Re: SSH folders in nautilus won't work

2008-03-14 Thread Villoing
Concerning the first method:
- Go to the menu "Places" then select "Connect to servers..."
- Choose SSH, enter the server name, folder path, username and click "Connect"
- I get "Cannot display "sftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/home" The folder is
not mounted" (sorry if the message is not accurate my gnome is not in
english...)

For the second way it's a bit more reandom, I would say:
- Open your home directory folder enter in the address bar: "sftp://[EMAIL
PROTECTED]/path/to/home"
- Wait maybe 10 minutes maybe more...
- Try to change folder: nothing happens and eventually Nautilus crashes...

This morning after the upgrade (nautilus 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu2) the second way
doesn't connect anymore.
It's not my server, I can access it with sftp using gFTP.

[Bug 124437] Re: Format profile active but not choosable in drop down list

2008-03-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Patrice,

I don't understand why you've reopened this bug. What resolution are
you looking for here? Are you asking for sound-juicer to include known-
broken options in the profile list? That doesn't seem like a UI
improvement to me; why list if it doesn't work?

Or should the profile not be available at all, including in the profile
editor, until the multiverse package is installed? This would at least
be a better UI than listing broken profiles with no information about
how to fix them, but it still would nothelp users who are trying to
figure out how to encode mp3s.

[Bug 202087] [NEW] gnome-panel clock claims Beijing observes KST

2008-03-14 Thread Mary Gardiner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Ubuntu release: Hardy

Package version of gnome-panel: 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu1

Package version of tzdata: 2008a-1ubuntu1

If I go to the panel clock and select Locations then Edit, then Add,
then Find and search for 'Beijing' and select 'Capital International
Airport', the timezone selected is "Asia/Pyongyang", as in the attached
screenshot. This is not the correct timezone for Beijing, which is on
Chinese Standard Time (UTC+8, no daylight savings). Asia/Pyongyang is
KST, which is UTC+9, again with no daylight savings.

This results in the Beijing clock under Locations being one hour ahead
of their actual time.

My system clock is on local time, not UTC:

I can see the screensaver in the interval between the Suspend button and
the end of the suspend process. This is very important for me because I
can see that the suspend command has been accepted and a suspend is
in progress. If I disable the screenlock I press the button and have
no idea if it is suspending or not until the laptop is switched off.

On the other hand since my laptop is password protected I don't want
to type a second password to unlock the screen after resume.

[Bug 202087] Re: gnome-panel clock claims Beijing observes KST

** Attachment added: "Screenshot of timezone selected for 'Capital

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

  Ubuntu release: Hardy

  Package version of gnome-panel: 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu1

  Package version of tzdata: 2008a-1ubuntu1

If I go to the panel clock and select Locations then Edit, then Add,
then Find and search for 'Beijing' and select 'Capital International

screenshot. This is not the correct timezone for Beijing, which is on
Chinese Standard Time (UTC+8, no daylight savings). Asia/Pyongyang is
KST, which is UTC+9, again with no daylight savings.

[Bug 190950] Re: [hardy] gnome-desktop-environment is broken

2008-03-14 Thread Mike Parin
Problem seems to be due to the disappearance of the gnome-keyring-
manager package which the gnome-desktop-environment package depends on.
See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/i386/gnome-keyring-manager and
you'll see in the left hand pane that:

"There is no current release for this package in Ubuntu hardy (i386)"

In fact, the Hardy package doesn't exist for any of the architectures.

[Bug 191451] Re: Bad default choices for Vietnamese installation

2008-03-14 Thread Jean Christophe André
We could organize intensive testing for Vietnamese, but I'm afraid we
won't be able to test every single language provided by m17n-db... :-/

About the language-support-input-vi metapackage, I do confirm that
adding scim-m17n is enough and does work from Hardy Alpha 6 (I've just
tested it). It was not enough up to and including Gutsy because
libm17n-0 didn't depend on m17n-db which is the case now.

[Bug 202126] [NEW] Import dialog should import only selected images

2008-03-14 Thread Laurent Van Basselaere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I am using F-Spot 0.4.0-0ubuntu3 in Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon

In the import dialog, I choose an import source. Previews of pictures available
in that import source are then loaded.
These previews can be selected. When I click on "Import", I expect that only
the selected pictures will be imported.
Instead, all the pictures in the import source (those of which previews are
loaded) are imported.

I believe only the selected pictures should be imported, or the user
shouldn't be able to select pictures before import.

[Bug 174277] Re: Launchers under "System > Preferences" and "System > Administration" have similar names, leads to confusion.

2008-03-14 Thread Siegfried Gevatter (RainCT)
The proposed changed seem redundant to me (by the way, the
set/manage/configure/etc. words are already in the menu entries'
comments). IMHO, this will just make it more difficult to find stuff in
the menu (more text), would deprecate tons of documentation and doesn't
make any sense at all.

If there's some confusion in this area then what should be done is
better educating the users about it (about changing the categories to
"User Preferences" & "System Administration", that doesn't sound bad at
all, but in some languages using that will make the menu look awful, as
the translations can be long).

(Note: I'm speaking for myself and in no way representing the opinion of
Ubuntu's development team.)
