[Bug 209714] Re: gnome-open incorrectly uses eince to open pdf files even after I select Acroread as the default handler in nautilus

2008-04-07 Thread Peter Valdemar Mørch
I can confirm this bug on Hardy. gnome-open does not have the same
associations as nautilus - .doc and .xls files in my case ( See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4642441 for details and a
discussion )

Yes, gvfs-open seems to do the right thing (TM).

I found this here http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343896 "but we
have to face the fact that libgnome and libgnomeui are on their way to being
deprecated. Maybe gnome-open should be moved to gnome-vfs along with this
enhancement request for it?"

gnome-open is undocumented (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgnome/+bug/185171/+viewstatus
), but its name is so easy to remember. "gvfs-open" isn't. Also gnome-
open gets 39,100 hits on google. gvfs-open gets 274. Not that this in
itself is any authority, but it does indicate that gnome-open is in more
widespread use than gvfs-open. I checked the source of xdg-open, and I
concur - it just calls gnome-open (lending credence to gnome-open being
in more prevalent use than gvfs-open)

What is the purpose of gnome-open? Isn't it supposed to do the same thing as
gvfs-open? Do they do different things on purpose? What purpose? Isn't
gnome-open just broken in Hardy? Or is it simply that gnome-open (from
libgnome) is about to be deprecated and thus not properly maintained?

I can see that the bug is listed as "Incomplete". I hope this is enough
information to move it to "Confirmed" status.

[Bug 213173] Re: rythmbox crashed during cd burning

2008-04-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 209915] Re: Totem is launched when connecting to SSH server

2008-04-07 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
> not really a bug then

No, not really - but it's an unexpected (change in) behavior, even
though it's an unusual corner case.

I guess the real issue is a discussion on how "Open with" should be
treated for folders, and how it should work for special folders.

Maybe it should be special cased to always be "Open folder" as default
action? No other action is likely to make sense, especially for remote
folders. It seems it's overridden already for local folders, which was
part of the confusion. To my mind, this was the old behavior, which
would make this "bug" a slight regression.

[Bug 213134] Re: Untranslated strings in Monitor Resolution Settings window

2008-04-07 Thread Timo Jyrinki
This was partially fixed by bug 212132, but actually since it only
enabled i18n but didn't revert all strings back to those that were used
by the old applet, there are new strings that are not available for
translation. The strings are all _almost_ the same as before, only
capitalization and hotkey differences etc., but unfortunately it makes
them untranslated.

Since it's easier to add the new strings to PO files than to revert to
the old ones (the current amount of patches to create the new applet is
already quite big), here'd be a fix that would make the new strings
translatable:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/timo-jyrinki/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gnome-control-
center/gnome-control-center_2.22.0-0ubuntu6.dsc

It adds display-capplet.glade and xrandr-capplet.c to POTFILES.in, and
the result is that the new strings are available for translation.

Debdiff attached.

[Bug 159531] [NEW] progressbar theme error

2008-04-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using latest ubuntu hardy, 32bit, but I think this error has been in
for a long time now. When the progressbar in totem or rhythmbox nears
the end, the colored part of it peaks out of the right side of the
slider as seen in the following image.

[Bug 210746] Re: nautilus Couldn't display "smb://HOST/folder/". Error: Connection timed out Please select another viewer and try again (sporadic)

2008-04-07 Thread muzzamo
output is attached. I did this by double clicking the network share,
then while nautilus was waiting for it to open (it taking a long time
before timing out is a symptom of the bug) ran "gdb --pid 10531" where
10531 is the pid of the gvfsd-smb process that had just been started.

It immediately spat out most of the attached log, then after typing
"continue" it went for a few more seconds before outputting the single
line "[Thread 0xb7530b90 (LWP 10532) exited]".

Hope this is what you are after. If not, please let me know :-)

[Bug 204413] Re: nautilus memory leak

2008-04-07 Thread Sam Davies
The avi file is 700mb, where would you like me to upload it?

It is definately a HUGE memory leak. As soon as I view that folder,
nautilus memory usage starts to ramp up at about 100MB/s until I am
using about 90% of available ram (1GB), with a footprint of at least
600MB and then valgrind stops nautilus running.

What is the default video thumbnailer that nautilus uses in ubuntu hardy
beta?

The command(s) using the huge amount of memory is (are) "nautilus --sm-
config-prefix /nautilus-94S7L4 --sm-client-id
117f00010100012034289780058440002 --screen 0 --load-session

[Bug 174441] Re: [hardy] seahorse no longer manages ssh keys

I have seahorse 2.22.0 and I can see a lot of ssh keys in "my personal

I like to refer to the original bug title. Although I can see my ssh
keys I'm not being asked for passphrases if they are needed.

I'm trying to connect via ssh to a certain host. I can see the key for
this host in "my personal keys" tab of seahorse. And seahorse-agent is
running. I only get a "permission denied (public key)".

[Bug 213053] Re: Totem is 'uninterruptible'

2008-04-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 212988] Re: gnibbles crashes after a few seconds

2008-04-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 165260] Re: second X server takes ages

2008-04-07 Thread Basilio Kublik
Hi Dominique
Thanks for your time and feedback, i totally understand your point of view
about installing "beta" software, but unfortunately in many cases the problem
is one which affects a quite specific hardware so even though we can test that
in many different platforms we may not encounter the same behavior in such
environments. anyway I'll close this report due your las comment about being
fixed, thanks again for taking the time to report this bug and help to make
Ubuntu better, please don't hesitate to report any future bugs you might find.

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2008-04-07 Thread Angelo Lisco
Hi Ted,
 this is a serious regression!
I can confirm that in Gutsy worked. No matter if my battery is broken (30%

If I can help somehow, let me know.

[Bug 213327] [NEW] Filters not processing correctly on Exchange inbox

2008-04-07 Thread JDM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 7.10
Evolution 2.12.1-0ubuntu1.1 0

I have a number of messages filters to process on POP 3 and Exchange
inboxes. Most look at the sender and move to an appropriate local
folder. Pop3 works fine, but the Exchange process does not.

Expected to happen: Messages in both inboxes are processed and moved to
local folders as appropriate.

Actually happened:

POP messages processed as expected.

If the "Apply filters to new messages..." checkbox is set on the
Exchange account, the following happens:

1. the Exchange inbox on the sidebar shows a count of unread messages,
2. the Exchange message summary does NOT show the new message headers unless
3. Evolution is restarted. Then the current messages appear, but not the next
set. Restart is required.
4. In either event, the filters are not processed unless the message headers
are selected and Ctl-Y is used.

Alternately, I can uncheck "Apply filters to new messages..." and the
inbound messages are displayed in Inbox folder. Select and Ctl-Y can
still be used to process the filters.

[Bug 213341] [NEW] robots crashes when trying to teleport

2008-04-07 Thread myrtille
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Hi,
I'm having the same issues, as the person in this closed bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/190625

I tried to follow the steps lined out, however I had a look and I
couldn't find a crashreport to submit, so I decided to file this report
hoping you'll explain me what to do.

I'm using a german version of Kubuntu, the version is 7.10. The Problem
is occurring with one of the games (gnobots2) from the gome-games
package, version number is 1:2.20.1-0ubuntu1.

Everytime I hit the "teleport"-Button instead of being teleported I get a
segmentation fault.
If i call robots from the commandline, some warnings are displayed after
hitting the teleportbutton, but noh crashreport is written:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/crash >gnobots2

the folder /var/crash remains empty.

How can/should I proceed to get more information? (I've added strace,
valgrind and full backtrace as described in the Debugging Procedures)

[Bug 212017] Re: Evince/CUPS Could Not Print Tax Document

2008-04-07 Thread cmnorton
wpshooter, I understand you have missing characters and can print the
file. I cannot even print the file using Evince.

I am updating this, because I've tried KPDF printing directly from the
site and using a downloaded copy. Both appear to print properly. So, it
seems at least there is an Evince problem worth persuing.
