[Bug 150187] Re: [gutsy] [regression] Evince has very bad quality when printing pdf files.

2008-04-12 Thread Mark Jovalekic
I must admit that I can't reproduce the bug, but I remember a similar problem I
had years ago.
It seems that the printing/display problems have something to do with
documents, which were created with some sort of TeX.
You must know that font-handling (embedding) is often a cause for problems.
There are T1 (Type 1 = good, don't confuse it with T1 font encoding in your
LaTeX source ;-) and T3 fonts. T3 are only the ugly bitmap fonts - I have seen
(Alt + Enter in evince; than fonts dialog) that some of the PDFs aren't
properly created.

So please check your TeX/LaTeX/LyX-setup (I have installed texlive-
fonts-recommended, -extra, -font-utils, and from universe the packages
cm-super and lmodern) and your font settings in your sources / LyX-
setup.

Now the question is why do acroread, evince, kpdf show different output?
Perhaps it is how they handle problems with fonts. I don't know, but it
could be a possibility.

[Bug 84876] Re: Gnome settings manager error to start desktop

2008-04-12 Thread Andrea Ratto
Allright, I have this very same problem on three different machines.
Lots of people have it.
It's not a showstopper, but it's a scary thing to have in a stable release for
this many months.
Let's raise the priority, let's look into this.

Looks like a synchronization problem to me. Did anyone have this on a
single core machine?

[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel

2008-04-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Do you use network-manager? Is you
internet access working before the gnome-panel start? Do you get the
weather informations after a while? Does it work after restarting the
session once the network connection is working? Copying Vincent on the
bug who is upstream and did the recent changes, I already talked to him

[Bug 214950] Re: Input goes to unfocused window when connecting to bookmarked remote drives that require a password

2008-04-12 Thread Kristian Klette
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

Funny small bug this one, not sure if its an nautilus or gtk-bug though

If you double-click a bookmark, that requires you to enter a password, twice
i a row, two Enter password dialogs shows up,
one in focus, as the most recent opened window and one unfocused.

But when you start typing in your password you will notice that all
keyboard input is sent to the unfocused window.

Not a very serious bug (in this case at least), but its clearly
  unintentional :)

  Have a nice day! :)

+ EDIT: It seems all input goes the the unfocused window, keyboard- and mouse
input

[Bug 216250] [NEW] contact-lookup-applet freezes - not working at all (Gutsy Hardy)

2008-04-12 Thread mlaverdiere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: contact-lookup-applet

I'm on Ubuntu Hardy (Beta) and I use the 0.16 version of the contact-
lookup-applet with the regular Gnome/Evolution address book, with data
in it.

Here's the problem: when I add the contact-lookup-applet on my taskbar,
nothing happens, i.e. it seems freeze and doesn't allow me to enter
anything.

Previous to my upgrade to Hardy, with Ubuntu Gutsy, the applet was
working for a while, but would freeze sooner or later. So in some ways,
this is a regression...

[Bug 216268] [NEW] totem crashes when leaving fullscreen mode

2008-04-12 Thread MartinE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

On Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) prerelease, totem consistently crashes X
when I try to leave fullscreen mode. Fullscreen works perfectly, but
leaving fullscreen mode breaks the X server. Not always, but about every
third time. I'm using the proprietary nvidia-glx-new driver, and have
compiz enabled. So far, I haven't noticed this bug with metacity. I'm
not sure if this really is a bug in totem, or rather nvidia-glx-new, or
compiz. I'm filing a bug against totem for now.

If you need further information, please tell me how to obtain it. I have
to restart the entire system when the problem appears.

[Bug 214507] Re: evolution doesn't close properly

2008-04-12 Thread hggdh
hello ringostar,

It seems you forgot to execute 'bt full', followed by 'thread apply all
bt full' on your GDB run. We can see the error (IO error 11 on X :0.0),
but we have no idea of what caused it.

Please run it again, and also attach here your ~/.xsession-errors and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Thanks,

[Bug 216306] [NEW] tab in name field of save dialog doesn't work

2008-04-12 Thread Jeldert Pol
Public bug reported:

Open gedit, click on save. The focus is in the name field. Pressing tab
doesn't move focus to the next field (folder). Instead, it puts the
cursor at the end of the predefined name.

Tab should move the focus to the next item. Shift tab does move the
focus, and tab now works as expected. Until it is in the name field
again.

This is not a gedit bug, since it also happens in the GIMP. (assigning

[Bug 122208] Re: Mouse sensitivity acceleration settings reversed

2008-04-12 Thread David Balažic
Hi!

I just stumbled onto this same issue. At the minimum, the help should be
updated, to clarify this.

The term acceleration is used for non-linear mouse movement since decades.
(see below)
If you really must use the word acceleration for the mouse/pointer speed
ratio, then this must be clear at least in the help.

About the term Sensitivity: the help is completely useless. It just
says the same thing (Sensitivity), just surrounding it with some
words: this is a setting, you change it with this slider, it applies to
the mouse. Well, even a newbie user can figure this out on his own.

And finally, this means there is no actual acceleration* in ubuntu ?
Would creating a RFE make sense ?

* - as in : same mouse movement (same distance) makes larger pointer
movement, if done faster (that is the user moves the mouse faster)

PS: I notice significant negative acceleration when the Acceleration
setting is 0 to 25 % (that is anywhere in the first quarter of its range, from
the Slow to the right). (Sensitivity is set to maximum (High).
By negative acceleration I mean: the movement over the same physical distance
with the mouse causes lower point movement distance when the mouse is moved
faster. Example:
 - move the mouse slowly to the right one inch: the pointer moves 200 pixels to
the right
 - move the mouse faster to the right, but the same distance as before, one
inch : the pointer moves only 100 pixels to the right

PPS: And at settings about 50%, there is positive acceleration. I give
up ...

[Bug 141603] Re: Calender messes up when changing timezone

2008-04-12 Thread hggdh
@cyfer -- thank you for your bug report, and sorry it took so long for
us to get to it. This is a known issue on up-to-date Evolution-Data-
Server, and I am marking it as such.

Recently this has been brought up to the forefront in the evolution-
hackers mailing list, and we can hope we will have a solution soon.

Basically, what happens is existing calendar entries are not updated on
a timezone change (or an equivalent daylight change); currently pretty
much the only option is a manual adjustment of each entry -- which is
not even near been an optimal bypass --.

There are many reported bugs in LP (few) and bugzilla (many) dealing
with this, either fully or partially matching your situation. Since I
have not yet found a good existing previous bug as an exact match on LP,
I am accepting yours, and setting an affects to the upstream bug
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301363).

[Bug 36189] Re: applets mixed up

2008-04-12 Thread Laszlo Kupcsik
Re: Franck wrote on 2007-10-25
I'm not even sure what the real problem is. Is it the right policy to move the
panels to the new screen? I personally like to start the applications on my
laptop LCD screen, and pull it to the new screen (which is next to it, not
overlapping) and full screen them there. For a presentation it makes sense. The
audience is not interested in my panel. So in my opinion it would be better to
leave the panels on the LCD screen by default.

[Bug 213232] [NEW] youtube plugin in totem needs demuxer plugin

2008-04-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I produced the following problem.
1. Installed Hardy on a VMServer
2. Started Totem and activated the Youtube plugin
3. Search Video and installed the proposed codecs
4. Try to watch the video, but i get the following error

The playback of this video requires a flash demuxer plugin, which is
not installed.

When i activated the plugin and installed the codecs, it would be
userfriendly, if the plugin would work out-of-the-box without additional
installations
