[Bug 219478] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes on specific songs on ipod

2008-04-19 Thread mrpeenut24
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox crashes when shuffling through my ipod. The songs it crashes
on are always the same (50+ so far). I can reproduce the error by
restarting rhythmbox and trying to play the song that caused it to
crash. All of the songs on the ipod were imported using Amarok and a
majority of them have no problem playing. This happened in Gutsy (and
maybe even Feisty) and is happening now in Hardy as well. My computer
is running Hardy beta and using rhythmbox-0.11.5-0ubuntu4. Attached is
a debugged output. Sorry about the huge size, there's over 8000 songs
on my ipod.

[Bug 219490] [NEW] Nautilus FTP disconnection locks desktop

2008-04-19 Thread LinuxJedi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Release: Hardy i386 (up to date 19th April 2008)

Expected:
When an FTP connection gets broken the nautilus window in question gets locked
without locking the entire desktop (at worse case scenario). Ideally some kind
of status dialog that can be canceled.

Actual:
When an FTP connection gets broken the entire desktop (except clock) locks
until Nautilus gives up (around 1 minute).

Details:
We have a problem in our office in which FTP connections get broken after 60
seconds of being idle. When this happens and you try and upload another file
in Nautilus the entire desktop will lock until Nautilus has figured out the
connection is broken and re-tries. It will then upload the file.

When I tried this in KDE4 the worst thing that happened was the upload
showed 'stalled' which could be canceled and worked on the retry. It
would be good if nautilus behaved like this.

How to reproduce:
1. Connect to an FTP server in Nautilus.
2. Disconnect your network connection.
3. Drag and drop a file to the Nautilus FTP window.
4. Try an do anything (I suggest make a tea / coffee)
5. After about a minute the desktop will return back to user control with a
connection error.

[Bug 219495] [NEW] Performing a Copy on an Evolution 2.22.1 Task crashes Evolution

2008-04-19 Thread Michael Jastram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This bug is reproducible on my machine. When switching to the task
view, I cannot copy tasks or even the text of individual tasks, neither
from the individual table entries nor from the preview pane. Whenever I
try to do this, evolution shuts down. It doesn't matter whether I use
Ctrl-C or the Edit | Copy menu.

Ubuntu doesn't seem to detect this as a crash, on restarting Evolution I
get a message box stating "Evolution appears to have exited unexpectedly
the last time it was run. (...)". The dialog has the buttons Ignore and
Recover, both of which allow me to continue to work where I left off.

[Bug 219381] Re: F-spot encountered a fatal error

2008-04-19 Thread Aaron Roydhouse
I can confirm the same error. Before the 10 updates today F-spot ran but
crashed on exit. After applying the updates today F-spot crashes on
start with the error reported here.

One of the 10 updates was 'libart'. From reading the changes I was
hoping it would solve the crash-on-exit error. Not at all sure, but
maybe it could be involved in this new problem?

Is there a log somewhere where I can see the last 10 updates that were
applied?

[Bug 219467] [NEW] size control in nautilus listview

2008-04-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Changing the width of the columns in nautilus list view behaves in a strange
way.
E.g. trying to change the size of the second column (in my case the size
column) at the right border also moves the left border of this column. The
lower width limit of the file name column is much bigger than the longest file
name.
Resort of the columns doesn't affect this behaviour.

[Bug 219467] Re: size control in nautilus listview

2008-04-19 Thread Jarlath
I can confirm this. By repeating the step outlined by Florian, nautilus
acts as described; resizing a column in nautilus (when in list view)
affects the left-most column. I've tried another GTK application in
Applications->Accessories->Manage Print Jobs, and this behaviour is not
replicated, so I'm marking it as a nautilus bug and not one of GTK.

[Bug 200036] Re: Setting the time using the clock applet, shows authentication window below time settings window

2008-04-19 Thread alberge204
Confirmed on Ubuntu 8.04 RC.

A partial explanation for all this: The main issue is funky "Always on
Top" behavior. The authentication window grabs keyboard and mouse input
to itself, and it will sometimes appear behind other windows even though
it ought to appear in the foreground. That said, this particular bug
definitely seems to be related to the clock applet itself.

The clock applet's calendar/weather thingy is always on top. The Clock
Preferences window becomes "always on top" only when the clock's
calendar is expanded (even though right-clicking on the Clock
Preferences titlebar shows the Always on Top option is never checked).
In Gutsy this is innocuous, as there's not much to the Clock Preferences
window. In Hardy, however, clicking on the Time Settings button spawns
the Time and Date Settings window directly behind Clock Preferences.
Clicking "Unlock" on the Time Settings window will sometimes spawn the
"Authenticate" dialog hidden behind the other windows. It also grabs
mouse and keyboard input so nothing can be moved (I think this is
described in another bug). When the calendar is not expanded, the Clock
Preferences window is not always on top. Manually setting other windows
to be always on top allows them to appear in front of the Clock
Preferences whether or not the calendar is expanded (assuming your
keyboard and mouse aren't locked).

[Bug 26662] Re: file-roller fails to open .Z files

2008-04-19 Thread Brian Pitts
Could we remove the connection to gnome-bug-#126130? The problem isn't
that file-roller misidentifies the file, the problem is that it checks
for both compress and uncompress, when Ubuntu only includes uncompress
by default.

** Description changed:

- I have a tarball named dpm4.tar.Z and file-roller fails to
- recognize that it is a compressed file, outputting the
- message "Archive type not supported". If I rename the file
- as dpm4.tar.gz, it works.
-
- http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=166603:
+ When opening a file with the extension .z file-roller checks for the
+ presence of the compress and uncompress binaries. A normal Ubuntu
+ includes uncompress via gzip, but not compress. When file-roller can't
+ locate compress, it refuses to open the .z file even though it is
+ capable of uncompressing it.

[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2008-04-19 Thread Bruce R
YES, for Ubuntu 8.04 Release Candidate, its kernel 2.6.24-16-generic lack of
TV tuner drivers is causing HAL initialization failure or worse for my [A] rig
E2160 with its AverTV A777 PCI card using a Zarlink MT352 DVB-T chip. There's
also no driver for my [C] rig Northwood P4 AverTV A800 USB module and its
DiBcom 3000MC/P chip, which only prevents Freeview reception but doesn't block
installation.
Indeed, my [C] rig gets so far as to confirm the absence of a suitable driver
when configuring Kaffeine.
Re-installing Ubuntu 7.10 on my [A] or [C] rigs confirms the presence of
drivers in the slightly modified 2.6.22-14-generic kernel.

It will probably take another hard days work to further confirm with my
'work in progress' E4600 rig, but I'm convinced, so thank you,

[Bug 219517] Re: No obvious way to stop Rhythmbox opening when a music player is plugged in.

2008-04-19 Thread Robert Persson
For anyone who needs to know the workaround, run gconf-editor (alt-2
followed by gconf-editor should do it). Hit ctrl-F and search for
"autoipod". You will find a key of that name and another called
autoipod_command, which should do the trick.

Needless to say, this workaround is not obvious. So this is still a bug.

[Bug 219521] [NEW] Disk Mounter applet shows extra CD-ROM icon

2008-04-19 Thread Sukarn Maini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

In hardy, the disk-mounter applet in gnome-applets shows me an extra icon named
"CD-ROM 1" when no cd or dvd is mounted in my dvd drive, and shows an extra
icon in the applet when a cd/dvd is mounted, but the "CD-ROM 1" icon still
remains in the applet.
In gutsy, the disk-mounter applet did not show this extra "CD-ROM 1" icon even
when no disk was mounted in the drive.

I am attaching some screen-shots to show what is happening.

NOTE: the last icon in my disk-mounter applet is irrelevant as it is an
extra storage partition on my hard drive.

[Bug 219533] [NEW] "watch my library for new files" creates import errors - tries to re-import entire collection

2008-04-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Under edit/preferences/music there is the option to "Watch my library
for new files". When this is ticked, I immediately get an Import Error
in the left side pane, as it tries to re-import the files again.

I had previously imported my files via the Music/Import Folder drop-down menu,
then closed Rhythmbox.
This happens every time I try this.

The only way to prevent the issue at the moment for me is to untick the
"Watch my library for new files" option.

I am using the new release candidate for Ubuntu 8.04 - available on 18
April 2008 plus all updates.

The app is Rhythmbox 0.11.5

Ideal behaviour would have been for nothing to happen until I add new
music, at which point it should get added to the collection found under
Music in the left hand pane - I have not set up any lists of mine own as
yet

[Bug 219536] [NEW] There should be feedback while mounting a remote share

2008-04-19 Thread Sebastian Urban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Version: Ubuntu Hardy with all upgrades

steps to reproduce:
1. Open Places->Connect to server...
2. Choose Public FTP
3. Enter ftp.gwdg.de as server
4. Click Connect

result:
No window shows that the mount is in progress. Users think that mount has
failed. With some server it takes 30 sec until nautilus opens.

expected result:
A progress window shows that the mount is in progress and allows the user to
cancel the process.

[Bug 219549] [NEW] six thousand dialog boxes?? (saving song info)

2008-04-19 Thread teledyn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

this is madness: when Rhythmbox starts up, it normally just starts up
and loads my media files from a (read-only) NFS mount and everything is
fine -- THIS time it started up and then stacked up over 6000 dialog
boxes informing me that the NFS mounted files were read only and
therefore it cannot "save song information"

what sort of song information would it have to save??? It is a media PLAYER,
it should play media, no?
Why should it want to play WITH my media files? ;)

Anyway, 6000 X-Close buttons is way too many to click, and this had
never happened before so if this is due to some upgrade and its a new
feature that cannot be turned off, I guess I'll have to hunt for a new
media player. it is nonetheless a bug to open 6000 copies of ANY dialog
box, especially 6000 identical dialog boxes that can only be closed one
by one.

[Bug 219460] Re: "Mail Preferences" part of Evolution preferences uses wrong font color

2. Change the normal foreground color on the panel section
3. Start up Evolution
4. Go to the preferences
5. Look at Composer Preferences -- everything looks normal
6. Look at Mail Preferences -- a lot of the text matches the panel text instead

[Bug 208269] Re: Cannot mount USB Drive from "computer:///"

Yep. The issue is still there. It was a fresh installation of Hardy Beta. I'm
already thinking about
reinstalling the whole box, when Hardy is out, cause the same thing doesn't
happen on my Notebook (also fresh installation of hardy beta).

Steps to reproduce:
 - Insert USB Drive
 - Icon appears under computer://
 - Double click on the Icon -> Error "File cannot be mounted"

I appended the output of "gvfsd -r".
It is kind of interesting that there was no output until I pressed F5 in the

[Bug 219490] Re: Nautilus FTP disconnection locks desktop

2008-04-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
what do you mean the desktop is locked? can't you use alt-tab or the
gnome-panel? what you describe doesn't seem to be a nautilus issue, and
your comment about KDE is not a constructive behaviour

[Bug 219460] Re: "Mail Preferences" part of Evolution preferences uses wrong font color

2008-04-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
do you have a way to trigger the bug without using GNOME color chooser?
that seems to be a bug in this application rather

[Bug 219553] Re: gstreamer

2008-04-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as
such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.

Re: [Bug 219549] Re: six thousand dialog boxes?? (saving song info)

2008-04-19 Thread teledyn
It is weird; I use this program all the time and I don't recall any
ubuntu updates on it -- it never happened before this morning and I
just restarted it now and it didn't happen, so I'm /hoping/ the
program state information that was attached to my report can help
figure it out.

unfortunately upgrading to hardy is not an option right now, and
I also don't know if perhaps it may do it again if used after a hard
reboot or something like that.

Re: [Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2008-04-19 Thread Bruce R
Hi Åskar

And I thought that my rigs were complex !
Mind you, I think that you will find it easier to tackle other problems if
you can
disable or even temporarily remove your Philips SAA7133/SAA7135 device.
The lack of suitable chipset drivers in the Release Candidate kernel seems
to be
preventing installation or at least masking other problems.

[Bug 219490] Re: Nautilus FTP disconnection locks desktop

2008-04-19 Thread LinuxJedi
No, you can't alt-tab or use the gnome-panel or switch workspace. You
can move the cursor and the clock still increments in seconds on the
panel fine.

If it isn't a nautilus issue then I guess its a gvfs issue, I don't know
how to tell though.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 123764 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123764

Thank you for your bug report. However, this appears to be a problem
with Mono libraries in Hardy and has been reported as bug #123764 (and
some other duplicates, like bug #205584) already, so I'm marking it as
duplicate of it. Please don't hesitate to report any other bugs you may
find. Thank you.
