[Bug 221527] Re: Location in Clock Preferences

2008-04-24 Thread Tom
Sweden isn't that small, I'm sure. GNOME Clock is based on cities (or
whatever, if you specify your own longitude/latitude), but the installer
only asks about the nearest capital city (I assume it lists large cities
in nations where there's more than one timezone).

It would do me no good to know what the weather is like in London, for
instance, even though that's what timezone I selected - Europe/London.
So the current behaviour is correct, I believe.

[Bug 216789] Re: Broken "el" translation of help file

2008-04-24 Thread nash
I wonder if this should be higher then medium. This break affects
scrollkeeper, and possibly even prevents other documentation from being
updated. Additionally it generates an email to users monthly until it
is fixed. It's also been reported multiple times.

Also it's an easy fix, just fix a single occurance of an ampersand.

[Bug 221710] [NEW] Brasero doesn't order audio files correctly when adding from a directory

2008-04-24 Thread Chris Close
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Using a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, with Brasero 0.7.1-3ubuntu1

When adding FLAC files to burn to an audio CD in Brasero by dragging the
whole folder across and hitting the 'Search Directory' button in the
dialog that appears, the audio tracks are added in some sort of a random
order (maybe the order they appear on the disc?).

I would expect the files to be added in alphabetical order so that you can add
files from the same CD properly. E.g:
01 - Some track.flac
02 - Another track.flac

Attached screenshot of resulting problem.

[Bug 221716] [NEW] No sound on Toshiba Tecra M7

2008-04-24 Thread cupajoe24
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Running Hardy Heron 8.04 with a Toshiba Tecra M7, haven't attempted to install
any other drivers (couldn't quite figure out how). It's an on-board sound card,
and by default there is no sound playing out of the speakers nor from the
headphone jack. I am sure that the volume is all the way up from both the
hardware and in Totem. Additionally I ran AlsaMixer and the master and related
channels are up.
Card: HDA Intel
Chip: Realtek ALC262
(as reported from AlsaMixer)

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu though I'm a generally advanced computer user,
so break it down for me if you would be so kind.

[Bug 221708] [NEW] Brasero doesn't read tags on added FLAC files properly

2008-04-24 Thread Chris Close
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Using a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, with Brasero 0.7.1-3ubuntu1

When adding FLAC files to burn to a CD in Brasero, the first file added
will have its Artist/Track information read. Files added after that will
not.

Files were added first via dragging a whole folder into the 'New audio disc

Files added individually after that did not have their information read either.

[Bug 37736] Re: Microphone bug in Ubuntu HDA_Intel

2008-04-24 Thread Sauli
After getting the official 8.04 I decided to give an other try to HD
audio in my Gigabyte G33M-DS2R system. Now it seems to work. The mic
input has quite a bad static hissing noise but that is an other story.
In my previous posts I forgot to mention I use ALSA.

Why does it work now, what fixed it? My explanation candidates:
1. I did change some settings in the Volume Control (version 2.22). If this is
the explanation I still wonder why the mic did work with the same settings in
AC97.
2. The official 8.04 fixed something. I haven't noticed any fixes in this area
though.

[Bug 221691] [NEW] Can't move window

2008-04-24 Thread Trond Husoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

1) Ubuntu Hardy
2) Just downloaded and installed the build that was released 24.04.2008
3) I moved the mouse over the titlebar and clicked the right mouse button. This
in order to move the window. When I start moving the mouse while holding the
mouse button down it does not move. The hand is there for a few seconds, but
then it seems like it slips. Normally I would be able to move the window
around. System runs without much Compiz stuff on it, and no wobbling.
4) The hand goes back to an arrow and it is not possible to move the window.

I have not been able to create some debug-information, so if someone could
please tell me how to do this, I will very much like to do so.
I will how ever reinstall Hardy today and tell the installer to format /boot /
partitions so that I know that those partitions are empty.

This makes "Resources" almost useless for me. About 10% of the window is

[Bug 221665] [NEW] Permission issues

2008-04-24 Thread Marcos
Public bug reported:

Whenever I download a proprietary application such as Adobe Air, Google
Earth or RealPlayer 11 ( these come in .bin ) I am not able to open them
with a simple double click, if I attempt this I get a message from
nautilus saying:

There is no application installed for this file type

So I right click the file, go to properties, go to the permissions tab
and checkmark the 'Allow executing file as a program' then I click
close. By doing this I hope that by double clicking the file the
installer will show up, but it does not, I get the same error.

There is no application installed for this file type

Obviously by running the chmod +x and ./FOO.bin commands by terminal I
can execute the installer, but a begginer or a Windows/Mac migrator wont
know this, nor he would like to go to the terminal to do such simple
task.

Nautilus should be able to recognize when a file has no execution
permissions and ask the user if he/she wishes to apply such permission
on a popup dialog and after this, nautilus should execute the installer
by itself. This would make the end user happier

[Bug 221620] [NEW] TV streams doesn't resume after pause

2008-04-24 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When you watch certain TV streams using Totem in Firefox, it usually
works fine, though not all the time. I may have to start another stream
and go back to the one I was watching, and sometimes I think it's
necessary to close Firefox and reopen it for the stream to work at all.
I think that's actually another bug, but the description fitted nicely
into this one. Someone more qualified can file that bug if deemed
necessary. However, once a stream is running, if you pause it, it
consistently doesn't resume afterwards. I do not know if this is limited
to a certain type of stream, but I hope the steps to recreate will
enable a qualified debugger to determine that.

* To recreate, open http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/klipp/359580 (This is Norway's
official television channel)
* You'll get a list of links to programmes on the left hand side, and a flash
player (or totem plugin, I'm not sure about that relation) in the right hand
side.
* Start a program by clicking a link in the list.
* It should open. It doesn't always, and I have no idea why, but if it doesn't
close firefox and go back to the page and try again. It will open eventually.
* When the stream is running, wait a minute or so, and pause it.
* Resume the stream. You'll notice it's running but then shortly stops. A
reasonable assumption is that it's reading from cache but not reopening the
connection to the server.

This is an incredibly annoying bug, and I hope it'll be easily fixed and
that it'd be given some priority.

[Bug 221594] [NEW] Efficient use of screen is very poor when small

2008-04-24 Thread Deepinthekernel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

I have my screen resolution set at 1680x1050. The smallest I can make
this app is that it still occupies about 1/6 of the screen area. This
is really bad use of space - an app like this should be able to operate
even when its window is taken down to the size of a postage stamp.

Not only that, but when operating at its smallest size, - it shows 3
graphs, the height of the graphs is in total less than 20% of the window
height, the rest is just wasted space.

The important things in the voids between the graphs, such as the key
and the scales, should plip out of existance when the graph gets below a
certain size.

When the graph is bigger, these problems are mitigated somewhat.

[Bug 221530] Re: totem no player

2008-04-24 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 218434] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-04-24 Thread Grugnog
I checked out the trunk for gnome-keyring-daemon from svn.gnome.org,
installed gnome-devel and recompiled (installing with --prefix=/usr -
ugly, but not likely to break things worse than they are now!). I
restarted gdm and could now log in fine (and the daemon did not even
crash after login).

The libraries that autogen.sh detected are as follows:
PAM: no
DBus: 1.1.20
HAL: no
SSH Agent: yes
Root certs: no

Assuming that the Ubuntu build is incorporating these dependencies that
suggests that the problem is with the PAM or HAL integration. I am not
much of a gnome hacker (can you tell!), but I am happy to try things if
people have any suggestions.

[Bug 221577] [NEW] Nautilus repeatedly generates thumbnails

2008-04-24 Thread Scott Armitage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I open a folder with several image or video files, Nautilus
progresses through the files to generate thumbnails. In Gutsy Gibbon,
when one returns to the same folder, Nautilus loads the cached
thumbnails which appear instantly without having to re-process the
files.

Having upgraded to 8.04 Hardy Heron, the process is the same the first
time I open a folder. However, when I open the same folder again later,
something different happens:

1) Nautilus opens the folder and loads the cached thumbnails (i.e. they appear
instantly, as they should)
2) Nautilus then processes the files, even though it has already loaded
thumbnails; this is known because CPU usage spikes and memory usage tracks in
the exact same way as the first time the thumbnails are generated.

Attached is a screenshot showing the near 100% CPU usage and the memory
increase-release cycle upon opening a folder for a second (or third, or
fourth, etc...) time. Note the five memory spikes: three large spikes
and two smaller, shorter ones. In the folder there are a total of five
videos: three that are 350MB, and two that are 175MB.

I notice I was a bit incomplete in my description in my previous posting. What
I meant to say is that this indeed happens across workspaces, but also across
monitors. If I start Firefox maximized on my second screen (mouse pointer on
that screen, patiently waiting for the window to appear), it starts on the
desired monitor, but it'll move to the first screen after about half a second,
even if my pointer is still on the second screen. The screens are both

[Bug 218434] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-04-24 Thread Grugnog
Ditto, exact same situation as the above - login to gdm causes it to
halt permanently on beige screen (and I can still Ctrl-Alt-F1 and log in
fine on the terminal). Log messages are also identical, so I won't
bother reposting.

I can add however that this bug reproduces on a completely new hardy
install (including a new user profile) both before and after all updates
are applied. I have 2 other machines also with clean hardy installs that
this doesn't occur on however, so this suggests perhaps some kind of
hardware related issue.

Interestingly I was able to log on twice successfully on the clean
install (although the keyring still crashed shortly after logging in)
before this problem started preventing gdm logon at all, even though no
changes or updates were applied between it working and starting to fail.
This suggests perhaps some kind of race condition.

If Firefox is closed and you start it, it will start in the current workspace...
I know what's this bug as I had it (but I workarounded it in firefox's

Re: [Bug 64953] Re: Evolution resends old mail after power failure

2008-04-24 Thread Petri Launiainen
If you look at the further comments related to this bug, it requires
that the index state of the Outbox is messed up (mine was due to hard
drive overflow).

As I no longer have that situation in the index file, it is not possible
to reproduce it.

As mentioned in the following discussion, if Evolution would zero the
size of Outbox and the corresponding index file every time it is sure
that all outgoing mail has left the system, this bug would never occur.

I think that in any case, this is so rare occurrence that you can remove
it. There are bigger fish to fry...

[Bug 218959] Re: gnome-appearance-properties attempting to access noexistent directory

2008-04-24 Thread Daniel Kopelove
stat of any file in the mounted share point (i.e. /home) that does not
exist hangs. Stat of the same non-existent file on Ubuntu 7.10 returns
immediately.

the 8.04 version of autofs is 4.1.4+debian-2.1ubuntu1
the 7.10 version of autofs is 4.1.4+debian-1

here is my auto.master file:
/home /etc/auto.home --timeout=15

here is my auto.home file
*   -intr,soft,nosuid,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,udp duos:/home/&

These files are identical on the 7.10 and 8.04 installs
A wireshark trace on the 8.04 installation shows an immediate return of the
NFSerror ENOENT (no such file or directory) so the issue is not with the
network or network layer.

*
While I do not understand why a bunch of gnome applications are trying to
access files like /home/.hidden and /home/syslog I do not believe this is a
gnome or gtk bug.
I am going to open a new bug with autofs

Thanks

Rhythmbox 0.11.5 at Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008

Exactly what Sebastien Bacher is writing. It does it when the play-list becomes
active and you move there with the cursor. This was not what I expected. Before
on Ubuntu 6.06 it behaved different. And on the play-queue it still works
different. Maybe I am confused by that. Anyway, maybe it can be made more
consequently behaving. This is a bit confusing and clumsy.

I installed Kubuntu 8.04 (RC) from a CD onto a DELL laptop two days
before the April 24 release. I booted my system to the login screen,
enter my user name & password and taken to the desktop. Within 3
seconds the screen went blank and I was returned to the login screen. I
logged in a second time, returned to the desktop but this time all
worked as expected. Next, I updated a desktop from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04

Thanks!

[Bug 220697] [NEW] users-admin won't add or delete users

2008-04-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Adding or deleting a user using users-admin is non-functional.
/etc/passwd is never changed in either case.

To reproduce:
1) Open users-admin
2) Hit 'Unlock' and authenticate using Policykit
3) Click 'Add User'
4) Enter all the users info and press ok (note user appears in list of users
now)
5) Close users-admin
6) Re-open users-admin and voila - the user we created doesn't exist. Looking
at /etc/passwd confirms this.

The steps for deleting a user are pretty similar.

on this however, as I would like to be the local Linux "Boff" in
Polokwane.
I haven't had this issue with evolution lately, I assume it was fixed
with one of many updates.

I found crashes with Kino but also seem to have been sorted out with
updates.
I'm using ubuntu-studio 8.04. I'm not sure how to check this info
exactly?

Thank you for the feedback and support. Please let me know if you need
anything else.

[Bug 204770] Re: [hardy] gdmsetup cause intensive disk activity and take a very long time to open

2008-04-24 Thread nglnx
This bug is a consequence of a longstanding upstream bug:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164786 (gdm frontend runs
entirely as root)

Notice that this upstream bug was opened in 2005, currently shows an
assigned status, a priority=high and a severity=major.

This bug has been the source of annoyances for ubuntu users for a long time as
can be seen by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/27156

The reason it manifests itself in a more direct fashion now is due to
tracker. The delay you are seeing is related with the indexing tracker
does the first time it is run for a user.

ps aux | grep root shows gvfs and trackerd processes running as root,
that started just after running gksu gdmsetup in my normal account.

ls -al /root/.config/tracker
ls -al /root/.local/share/tracker
ls -al /root/.gvfs

also confirms this.

[Bug 221493] [NEW] gnomeradio 1.7-2 - cannot save station name

2008-04-24 Thread Roger Green
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Ubuntu 7.10
I am a new convert to Linux/GNU and would like to stay that way.
All updates offered have been accepted.
gnomeradio 1.7-2, installed using Synaptic Package Manager
Initially I had problems with the "radio device" option but after several tries
/dev/radio0 was accepted.
I can now tune the radio manually and reception is as good as it was in Windoze
XP.
It seems that whenever I try to name a preset, instead of saving it and
allowing me to go on, the application crashes.

I have seen this feature reported by other users but no solution.

[Bug 175904] Re: Firefox-3.0 window moves to current workspace

2008-04-24 Thread Thilo Six
> close all FF

well that really does not make sense in this context

open FF on lets says workspace 4, open xchat on workspace 2 (kde) and click on
an link inside xchat.
FF moves to the current workspace.

I just tested the same with Thunderbird and Akregator - it doesn't happen from
inside those apps.
so maybe it is more xchat related... ?

[Bug 220014] Re: wrong mail displayed

2008-04-24 Thread Mathias Kende
I don't think that it is related to the server because I download the
mail with pop3 and thay are properly downloaded. It is only later (some
days after) that some mails became corrupted. But at this time there is
no communication with the ervere for these emails.

What I will try to do is to produce a mbox file with corrupted emails
into it, and see if they are also corrupted if moved to a new
installation, and if so I will upload them.
