[Bug 221527] Re: Location in Clock Preferences
Sweden isn't that small, I'm sure. GNOME Clock is based on cities (or whatever, if you specify your own longitude/latitude), but the installer only asks about the nearest capital city (I assume it lists large cities in nations where there's more than one timezone). It would do me no good to know what the weather is like in London, for instance, even though that's what timezone I selected - Europe/London. So the current behaviour is correct, I believe. -- Location in Clock Preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 216789] Re: Broken "el" translation of help file
I wonder if this should be higher then medium. This break affects scrollkeeper, and possibly even prevents other documentation from being updated. [Bug 221710] [NEW] Brasero doesn't order audio files correctly when adding from a directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero Using a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, with Brasero 0.7.1-3ubuntu1 When adding FLAC files to burn to an audio CD in Brasero by dragging the whole folder across and hitting the 'Search Directory' button in the dialog that appears, the audio tracks are added in some sort of a random order (maybe the order they appear on the disc?). [Bug 37736] Re: Microphone bug in Ubuntu HDA_Intel
After getting the official 8.04 I decided to give an other try to HD audio in my Gigabyte G33M-DS2R system. Now it seems to work. The mic input has quite a bad static hissing noise but that is an other story. In my previous posts I forgot to mention I use ALSA. Why does it work now, what fixed it? My explanation candidates: 1. I did change some settings in the Volume Control (version 2.22). If this is the explanation I still wonder why the mic did work with the same settings in AC97. 2. The official 8.04 fixed something. [Bug 221665] [NEW] Permission issues
Public bug reported: Whenever I download a proprietary application such as Adobe Air, Google Earth or RealPlayer 11 ( these come in .bin ) I am not able to open them with a simple double click, if I attempt this I get a message from nautilus saying: There is no application installed for this file type So I right click the file, go to properties, go to the permissions tab and checkmark the 'Allow executing file as a program' then I click close. By doing this I hope that by double clicking the file the installer will show up, but it does not, I get the same error. There is no application installed for this file type Obviously by running the chmod +x and ./FOO.bin commands by terminal I can execute the installer, but a begginer or a Windows/Mac migrator wont know this, nor he would like to go to the terminal to do such simple task. [Bug 221620] [NEW] TV streams doesn't resume after pause
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem When you watch certain TV streams using Totem in Firefox, it usually works fine, though not all the time. I may have to start another stream and go back to the one I was watching, and sometimes I think it's necessary to close Firefox and reopen it for the stream to work at all. I think that's actually another bug, but the description fitted nicely into this one. Someone more qualified can file that bug if deemed necessary. However, once a stream is running, if you pause it, it consistently doesn't resume afterwards. I do not know if this is limited to a certain type of stream, but I hope the steps to recreate will enable a qualified debugger to determine that. * To recreate, open http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/klipp/359580 (This is Norway's official television channel) * You'll get a list of links to programmes on the left hand side, and a flash player (or totem plugin, I'm not sure about that relation) in the right hand side. * Start a program by clicking a link in the list. * It should open. It doesn't always, and I have no idea why, but if it doesn't close firefox and go back to the page and try again. It will open eventually. * When the stream is running, wait a minute or so, and pause it. * Resume the stream. You'll notice it's running but then shortly stops. A reasonable assumption is that it's reading from cache but not reopening the connection to the server. This is an incredibly annoying bug, and I hope it'll be easily fixed and that it'd be given some priority. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- TV streams doesn't resume after pause https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221620 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 221594] [NEW] Efficient use of screen is very poor when small
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor I have my screen resolution set at 1680x1050. The smallest I can make this app is that it still occupies about 1/6 of the screen area. This is really bad use of space - an app like this should be able to operate even when its window is taken down to the size of a postage stamp. Not only that, but when operating at its smallest size, - it shows 3 graphs, the height of the graphs is in total less than 20% of the window height, the rest is just wasted space. The important things in the voids between the graphs, such as the key and the scales, should plip out of existance when the graph gets below a certain size. When the graph is bigger, these problems are mitigated somewhat. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. [Bug 221577] [NEW] Nautilus repeatedly generates thumbnails
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When I open a folder with several image or video files, Nautilus progresses through the files to generate thumbnails. In Gutsy Gibbon, when one returns to the same folder, Nautilus loads the cached thumbnails which appear instantly without having to re-process the files. Having upgraded to 8.04 Hardy Heron, the process is the same the first time I open a folder. However, when I open the same folder again later, something different happens: 1) Nautilus opens the folder and loads the cached thumbnails (i.e. they appear instantly, as they should) 2) Nautilus then processes the files, even though it has already loaded thumbnails; this is known because CPU usage spikes and memory usage tracks in the exact same way as the first time the thumbnails are generated. Attached is a screenshot showing the near 100% CPU usage and the memory increase-release cycle upon opening a folder for a second (or third, or fourth, etc...) time. Note the five memory spikes: three large spikes and two smaller, shorter ones. In the folder there are a total of five videos: three that are 350MB, and two that are 175MB. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nautilus repeatedly generates thumbnails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ditto, exact same situation as the above - login to gdm causes it to halt permanently on beige screen (and I can still Ctrl-Alt-F1 and log in fine on the terminal). Log messages are also identical, so I won't bother reposting. I can add however that this bug reproduces on a completely new hardy install (including a new user profile) both before and after all updates are applied. I have 2 other machines also with clean hardy installs that this doesn't occur on however, so this suggests perhaps some kind of hardware related issue. Interestingly I was able to log on twice successfully on the clean install (although the keyring still crashed shortly after logging in) before this problem started preventing gdm logon at all, even though no changes or updates were applied between it working and starting to fail. Re: [Bug 64953] Re: Evolution resends old mail after power failure
If you look at the further comments related to this bug, it requires that the index state of the Outbox is messed up (mine was due to hard drive overflow). As I no longer have that situation in the index file, it is not possible to reproduce it. As mentioned in the following discussion, if Evolution would zero the size of Outbox and the corresponding index file every time it is sure that all outgoing mail has left the system, this bug would never occur. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 204770] Re: [hardy] gdmsetup cause intensive disk activity and take a very long time to open
This bug is a consequence of a longstanding upstream bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164786 (gdm frontend runs entirely as root) Notice that this upstream bug was opened in 2005, currently shows an assigned status, a priority=high and a severity=major. This bug has been the source of annoyances for ubuntu users for a long time as can be seen by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/27156 The reason it manifests itself in a more direct fashion now is due to tracker. The delay you are seeing is related with the indexing tracker does the first time it is run for a user. ps aux | grep root shows gvfs and trackerd processes running as root, that started just after running gksu gdmsetup in my normal account. ls -al /root/.config/tracker ls -al /root/.local/share/tracker ls -al /root/.gvfs also confirms this. -- [hardy] gdmsetup cause intensive disk activity and take a very long time to open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204770 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
