[Bug 223965] Re: Tar lzma nautilus default opening

2008-04-29 Thread A. Walton
That's pretty much what I figured. This is not a bug, but a
configuration error. Application/x-extension-lzma is not the valid
Content-type for a file with an LZMA extension (should be
application/x-lzma). Check that you don't have an entry in
~/.local/share/mime/globs for LZMA (and either remove it or comment it
out if it exists).

Closing this as invalid. Please use answers if you have any more
support-related questions.

[Bug 224544] Re: nautilus dav:// protocol [8.04]

This is most likely a GVFS problem, so I'm moving it there.

Debug information would be great. If you could get a Wireshark capture
of the session and see if this problem persists if you use gvfs-mount to
mount the dav location that would be very helpful.

[Bug 203527] Re: Clicking on clock applet hangs gnome-panel

2008-04-29 Thread marco.pallotta
I think Sebastien Bacher referred to hardy sru upload
(http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13986760/eds.debdiff) posted in bug #204775.
I think we can follow the "building from a debdiff guide"
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuPackagingGuide/BuildFromDebdiff) from the wiki
documentation of ubuntu. I haven't tested the patch yet (nor I never used
.debdiff as I am a new .deb user) but I think the steps are:
1) download build-essential fakeroot devscripts
2) download the source of evolution-data-server package (with its libraries)
3) apply the Bacher patch
4) rebuild the package
5) install the new .deb

Backer, can you confirm this?

[Bug 224544] [NEW] nautilus dav:// protocol [8.04]

2008-04-29 Thread dynnamitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When accessing a DAV resource from Nautilus (in the Go To: fiel) the following
error pops up:
-
Couldn't display "dav://localhost:8088/webdav/db".
Error: HTTP Error: No+resource+or+collection+found
Please select another viewer and try again.
--
(Tesing the same url with 'cadaver' in a shell works fine)

BUT auto-magically there is mounted an shourtcut in the left sidebar (at the
top), and when I click it I can access the DAV.
I can open files directly into gedit for instance.. BUT I cannot save them .

None of the above issues was present in Gutsy.

Howto test:
1) Download and install exist-db: http://exist-db.org/download.html (
eXist-setup-1.2.0-rev7233.jar
2) Start exist with '/bin/server.sh'
3) Dav should now be availiable at http://localhost:8088/webdav/db

[Bug 62123] Re: Geyes preferences window too small

2008-04-29 Thread Diego Ongaro
I just tried it out in a hardy vm (screenshot attached).

Ideally, the default vertical size would be increased and the order of
the themes would have some sort of logic.

I'm not sure it's worth any more effort, though. I think it'd be fine to
close this bug now.

Thanks,
Diego

[Bug 213053] Re: Totem is 'uninterruptible'

2008-04-29 Thread Porntape
Hi Robert & discussion group,

I installed the Edubuntu 8.04 version on a computer for a small school
to evaluate yesterday(Thailand) and I got the same problem again. I
played an avi clip to start the automatic download for the appropriate
codecs. Did download the two gstreamer(or spelled something close)
versions. So I finally got a screenshot.

I had the same problem when upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 and i solved it
by making the subtitles to load when the movie does. My totem is in

Edit -> Preferences, and then check something like "load subtitle file

Hmmm. May be I misspoke. I apologize. Feel free to delete it if it is
inappropriate or dublicate.

My error may not be exactly as in this bug (sounded just like it when I
read it). I do not have xgl installed. The error I get is as belows.

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.

Maybe I am not explaining the problem well because I doubt this behavior
is intended. When I open a window on desktop "A" and go to desktop "B"
then on desktop "B" I click on the first window I opened, it doesn't go
back to desktop "A" and I cannot find the window. It doesn't even show
a representation of the window in the pager. I have to go to every
desktop to look for where it is and sometimes I can't even find it and
have to close the window and reopen it because it just gets "Lost"

[Bug 218982] Re: gnome-panel doesn't hide all the way

@jasonq: I find the problem irritating as well. FWIW I've found the
upstream bug for this problem:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127973

It does not appear that it will be fixed anytime soon.

A workaround that I use is to "Show hide buttons" and uncheck "Arrows on
hide buttons" so that when hidden there is minimal real estate used, and
then hide the panel by clicking on the small left or right "hide"
square" to hide it, and click on the square (rectangle?) to unhide it.

[Bug 214013] Re: Pluging an ipod stop playing music

2008-04-29 Thread Craig B
It's not quite the same thing, but I had a similiar issue when copying
off a CD.

Whenever I would insert a new CD, whatever was playing would stop. The
solution was to go into Nautilus and change the default actions under
'Edit > Preferences > Media' from 'Open Rhythmbox Music Player' to 'Ask
what to do' (or 'Do Nothing' if you prefer). Now, it plays without
interruption.

There is a similiar control for 'Music Player'. Try changing that.

[Bug 132612] Re: memory leak in evince?

2008-04-29 Thread tweedledee
For what it's worth, this is definitely not resolved in Ubuntu Hardy - I
had a 300 KB PDF using 900 MB of RAM earlier today. It was an old
research artcle that had been scanned in, and although it was OCR'd,
Evince was still treating it as an image for memory purposes (although I
could copy text out just fine). At that level, this could easily be an
issue for high-end machines as well, and unfortunately strongly
encourages the use of Adobe Reader.

Johanpdx, check the version number of evolution-data-server in Synaptec.
If you have the proposed update the version number will be

Anytime I click on the new clock in gnome, a box appears around it as if its
selected, but it does not display, and almost every function of the top bar
freezes up. I cannot click on Applications Places, System, panel icons,
but I can click on network manager and tracker.

Also shutdown icon fails as well, yet most times, ctrl+alt+del works in
bringing up the shutdown options.

additionally, the lower bar will also stop refreshing itself, it seems
that opening and closing items will not make any change to the status of the
lower bar, after intlclock has been selected.

I'm not sure what other info to provide, except that I have compiz running,
and the nvidia graphics drivers, and this is the amd64 build.

edit: Edited the title to remove reference to amd64.

Please install gvfs-bin (if you don't already have it installed) and run

gvfs-info /path/to/file.tar.lzma

and add what it returns to this bug. The likely case is that you have
incorrect mime information set for LZMA's content type (in e.g.

Dear Mathias,
As I said, I experienced a similar problem with ftp shares, NOT with smb.
However, I tried out what you said and it is working.
But with the ftp is still not working. It seems the Nautilus tries to use a
simple ftp get for directories too.

I also noticed that, in my case the problem is only displaying the shared

the volume is mounted), without the need of using the "Connect to

[Bug 188422] Re: date/time applet gets too large

I think this is related - sometimes If you open the popup and just leave
the popup open for a minute or so it will resize by itself.

[Bug 204775] Re: selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many other things to not respond

2008-04-29 Thread johanpdx
Thanks for both of the responses above.

I seem to have the most recent packages. (Just checked to be sure
'hardy-proposed' is included among the update sources.)

When I get some time I'll try the solution mentioned by tim.

[Bug 212098] Re: "easy" file sharing not notifying about logout/login

2008-04-29 Thread TheHobbit
@Daniel: the fact that the user needs to logout/login is a basic property of
how the permission system works on linux, and in any *nix system. i.e. the
system checks user's groups at login.
Anyhow, on "other" systems you need a reboot, login/logout is cheap.
