I tried generating a new key. this worked for a few logons, but then i
get back to this error.

I think it is to do with the local key agent. i found that
 SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0 ssh oberon
works fine.

[Bug 230978] [NEW] Sorting columns headers do not show status

2008-05-15 Thread Blake
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When sorting the listview by clicking on column headers, there is no
indication that shows which fields are being used to sort the list, and
whether is is in forward or reverse order (i.e. there is no little arrow
at the right of the column header box, showing the current sort).

[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] Ubuntu's new "Offline Mode" feature cannot properly detect when there is a valid network available for use in many circumstances

2008-05-15 Thread bendis
Hi!

I believe that most of these problems (n-m + dial-up => offline) are
tightly related to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/network-manager/+bug/147119. The network-manager just fails to detect
wheather a modem connected successfully or not. Please fix the bug
#147119 - the fix is really trivial and patches were provided almost two
months ago. It will surely help a lot of users...

Regards,
Bendis

[Bug 230963] [NEW] Gstreamer in Hardy is less capable than previous releases

2008-05-15 Thread Brian Burger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

A significant number of video files I have do not play in Totem in
Hardy, despite playing perfectly in previous releases of totem.

Sound is screwed up, many vids play incredibly slowly - at half speed or
worse - and a number simply refuse to play at all.

These are video files that have worked in previous versions of Ubuntu as
far back as Breezy, so I KNOW the issue is not the video files - it's
that gstreamer in Hardy has found some new and creative way to suck.

Most of these videos are clips either pulled off random websites or
emailed by friends, so I have no idea what or who holds copyright, or
what the procedure is. I am willing to post some that worked perfectly
in the past but do not with Hardy´s regression in gstreamer, though.

Expected is streaming by open place given url and loading by browsing folder in

[Bug 229465] Re: Wide text in wide VTE windows is extremely slow

2008-05-15 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
Thanks for the link to the upstream bug. I don't think it's the same.
However, I did find one that seems related, except that it was fixed a
major release ago.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410534

I also have the fglrx driver, and it seems like the analysis and
symptoms are very close to mine. I'm going to see whether this is a
regression. Do you want me to move my bug report upstream?

Another piece of evidence pointing in the same direction: on an system
with NVIDIA drivers, this bug does not happen.

firefox and gnome system monitor, and when I type it is hitting 100%?

How do I get this fix that has been released? I'm running 8.04 fully
updated as of today.

[Bug 205030] Re: Hardy Heron Login Window startup delay

2008-05-15 Thread xoc
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 204770 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204770

Confirmed in 8.04 full release. Once "Login Window" (finally) starts, it then
starts as quickly as expected subsequently, until reboot.
Some other things take longer than expected to start too, for example Firefox
takes about 20 seconds to start on my 3 GHz Core2duo machine with 2 GB RAM and
a fast hard disk.
This is not the same thing as described in the allegedly "duplicate" bug
#204770.

Mesa in ia32-libs has the same problem.

~/bin32/gears is /usr/lib/xscreensaver/gears from xscreensaver on an
ia32 Debian Etch system, IIRC. Any 32bit openGL program, even
medibuntu's googleearth package, is affected.

$ LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose MESA_DEBUG=1 ~/bin32/gears

[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] Ubuntu's new "Offline Mode" feature cannot properly detect when there is a valid network available for use in many circumstances

2008-05-15 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
I just wanted to say "I told you so". I kicked and screamed about this
bug for a while before the official Hardy release, but no one would
listen. Now, I assure you that the comments to this bug will continue
to grow onwards for the 3 years Hardy is supported on the Desktop, which
is pretty ridiculous. Firefox is becoming the effective "Operating
System" for constant web browsing folks addicted to web 2.6..., and
there is no reason Firefox should depend on Network Manager. I thought
the one thing that set Linux apart from Windows was the decoupling of
components and not forcing people to use certain packages if that is not
necessary. Ubuntu has taken a turn for the worse in this specific
decision with Firefox, and let's just hope it doesn't continue to happen
in the future. We have too much to lose as a community. Let's keep the
progress going and not start to build another Microsoft :-)

[Bug 41985] Re: Openoffice won't open files using sftp:// in read-only mode

2008-05-15 Thread admmoore
I have had the same problem for a while now.a local Linux Engineer
told me to set up SSH public /private keys. You will have to have the
login and password on the local and remote server the same. Set up the
keys as follows:

SSH Version 2
Step 1
at the command line typessh-keygen -t dsa
(the following you should see as output)
Generating public/private dsa key pair.
Enter file in which to save the key (~/.ssh/id_dsa) just hit enter
Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase) just hit enter
Enter same passphrase again just hit enter
Your identification has been saved in ~/.ssh/id_dsa
Your public key has been saved in ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub
The key fingeprint is
(there will be some really long string)

Step 2
copy the ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub file into the file ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the
remote server/host

Then reboot and retry your connection. (Go to Places, Connect to
Server, Choose SSH and enter all info) You should be able to open
read/write files directly from the server and save them directly to the
server (however, to save them directly to the server you will have to
include the entire server file name. EX.
ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/locationforfile/filename)

SSH Version 1
Step 1
at the command line type cd ~/.ssh
then type ssh-keygen -t rsa1
(the following you should see as output)
Generating public/private rsa1 key pair.
Enter file in which to save the key (~/.ssh/identity) just hit enter
Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase) just hit enter
Enter same passphrase again just hit enter
Your identification has been saved in ~/.ssh/identity
Your public key has been saved in ~/.ssh/identity.pub
The key fingeprint is
(there will be some really long string)

Step 2
copy the ~/.ssh/identity.pub file into the file ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on
the remote server/host

Then reboot and retry your connection. (Go to Places, Connect to
Server, Choose SSH and enter all info) You should be able to open
read/write files directly from the server and save them directly to the
server (however, to save them directly to the server you will have to
include the entire server file name. EX.
ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/locationforfile/filename)

Now if I could just find a way to select the server as the save as
location instead of having to type the whole thing in with the
filename!!

Hope this helps!!

[Bug 230862] Re: yelp segfaults on symlinked/nonexistent info file

2008-05-15 Thread Richard Seguin
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 230879] [NEW] Will not subscribe to podcast address when I add it. It just ignores the input and lists zero podcasts.

2008-05-15 Thread jkrumm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have Ubuntu 8.04, and am trying to use Rhythmbox as a podcast
aggregator for the first time. Each time I try to enter the address from
my favorite podcast it ignores the input, that is I can enter it as a
new address, but then it still says it has zero podcasts. I successfully
used gPodder to download the podcast, but it requires some friggin
libraries to connect to my Ipod. Rythmbox seems to recognize my Ipod no
problem.

[Bug 188732] Re: Blinking cursor can not be deactivated anymore

2008-05-15 Thread Ben Thornton
This is ridiculous. Clearly a huge number of people are upset by this
development. http://lwn.net/Articles/278995/";>It even got a
mention on LWN.

As Ralph pointed out, someone even submitted a patch to revert the bug,
and had his comments deleted for his trouble.

The least you can do is leave the bug open until the help docs get
updated. As it stands the old behavior is still documented but not
available.

This is sound of community feedback. A big fat "Invalid" with no
explanation is not likely to win over users. Please let us know why this
bug is invalid or leave it open until the documentation gets updated.

[Bug 215245] Re: Yelp crashes when trying to open o help topic

2008-05-15 Thread Chris Coulson
Sebastien - I've just come back to this bug report because I've had a
similar experience with another user who isn't getting a crash report
with Apport (even though it is enabled). It turns out that Apport
doesn't catch SIGABRT, which is what Yelp is terminating with here. I
don't know if Apport is meant to catch this or not, so I asked question
33050 to try and clarify it. If it is a bug in Apport, I'll open a bug
report as I can reproduce it without fail here. If this is the intended
behaviour of Apport, then can we get Victor to submit a stacktrace with
debug symbols in to this report if he can still reproduce the crash
(using the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash - the
example is with yelp funnily enough)

[Bug 72520] Re: Missing "Unmount" and "Eject" context menu items for removable volume icons

2008-05-15 Thread Zin Slan
Not quite the same on Hardy.

1. In the Computer view, select a removable volume and look in the File
menu. The Eject or Unmount option should be present, and should act on
the selected removable volume. That's not the case on Hardy; needs
fixing.

2. Now, double click on a removable volume in the Computer view. In the
resulting Nautilus window, look in the File menu. The Eject or Unmount
option IS present there under Hardy, so the original issue this bug
addressed has been fixed.

[Bug 201701] Re: Greeter appears to be crashing

2008-05-15 Thread DonQuichote
I also had this problem after reinstalling my Wacom Bamboo1 tablet. I had it
working just fine on Gutsy, but the Hardy upgrade breaks every x.org setting
there is. Luckily, I had a backup of my original xorg.conf.
After running all the commands on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4785779, Xubuntu would try gdm 3 times
and then fail. However, opening a terminal (CTRL-ALT-F1), killing all gdm
instances (type "ps -eF | grep gdm" to see them) and then running "startx" got
me back in a normal desktop situation. WITH the tablet working!
Looking at /var/crash, I think it was the pressure applet I downloaded and
installed that was the problem. I attached the crash file, as apport-gtk (not
apport-qt on Xubuntu) only says it is not an official package.

Oh, I probably got the panel applet from http://www.alexmac.cc/tablet-
apps/

Hope this is of any help to you.

[Bug 230835] [NEW] GVFS SSH seemingly ignores group permissions

2008-05-15 Thread ISV_Damocles
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

On the server I connect to through SSH, there is a directory owned by
root and a special group, chmodded 770, to prevent users not part of the
group from accessing the data. My user account on the server is part of
this group, and therefore has full access to the contents of this
directory.

In Nautilus, I'm fully capable of reading the contents of this directory
(meaning it must be noting the g+r permission) but it refuses to copy
anything into this path, as I was capable of doing before in Ubuntu
7.10.

My guess is that since the code already demonstrates the capability of
getting the correct group read permissions, the fix should be adding a
few extra lines to the code that determines write permission support.

[Bug 148435] Re: User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored.

2008-05-15 Thread Peter F.
I had the same problem with Hardy.
Changing the access right for .dmrc alone doesn't changed anything, but this
sequence solved this problem (my user name is 'pit'):
cd /home
chmod 744 pit
cd /home/pit
chmod 644 .dmrc

I can confirm that there are no more CPU usage issues after upgrading
to the proposed eds.
I rebooted my laptop at least twice a day for the past two weeks and I
haven't seen eds use much of the cpu. Whenever I looked at "ps ax|grep
evo..." it's always in "Sl" mode.

Askar,

Thanks for the info. When/if the error reappears please tell us. And
when that happens, please list everything that you did with Evolution
between now and then (what settings you changed, what mail servers you
connected to, how much mail you had downloaded, etc).

Thanks!

What's the output of 'apt-cache policy libgtk2.0-0 libgtk2.0-dev' in
your system?

2.12.9-3ubuntu2 is from hardy and 2.12.9-3ubuntu3 from hardy-updates
Do you have hardy-updates enabled? If not, does enabling it make a difference?
(you can enable it at software-properties-gtk)

[Bug 230804] [NEW] Street Address missing when importing contacts (ldiff format)

2008-05-15 Thread Jorge de la Garza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm moving from Windows Vista to Ubuntu 8.04.
And I'm moving from Outlook 2007 to Evolution 2.22.1
I installed Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 on my Windows Vista Computer, and
Import the mails and contacts from Outlook into Thunderbird.

>From thunderbird I exported the Contacts in LDIF format, and move the
contacts.ldif file to my ubuntu machine... I imported the contacts.ldif
file and it imported "successfully".

I realized that some information is missing such as the street address of each
contact.
I opened the ldif file and that information is in there... It is just that it
is not importing as it should be.

I expect to have all the information of my contacts in Evolution.
I've been looking in forums and the web, and I have seen that I'm not the only
one having such a problem.

Is there any workaround, patch or solution for this?

[Bug 230797] [NEW] Totem crashes after using sleep mode

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If my IBM Z60m was in sleep mode, then I try to play a mp3 file

or somtetimes the LC display shows a complete distorted picture
and the notebook freezes also. Under Gutsy Gibbon there was no

2008-05-15 Thread Russell Wing
Regarding the previous post- Perhaps I am writing junk- rereading this bug
suggests that this issue is from way back and probably completely unrelated
to the BSD link I added.
Nevertheless the issue remains on Hardy for me.

2008-05-15 Thread Russell Wing
I have this issue (8.04). I did not have it in previous releases 7.10, 7.04.
CPU goes very high.
Very noticable with dirs of 1000+ entries.
Affects Rhythmbox, Firefox and Nautilus to a lesser extent.
Please re-open and fix. This is a serious issue.
Is it related to the 25 year old BSD bug?

[Bug 183136] Re: Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'

2008-05-15 Thread Åskar
I got the "Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'"

I am using gmail over pop3 with SSL on Hardy Heron. I am using Swedish
language if that matters.

What I did was:

mv .evolution .evolution-backup

And then the error disappeared. I will report back if I get the bug
again, but I do think it should be open since the bug "Error while
Storing folder 'INBOX'" apparently still present.
