Hi! I believe that most of these problems (n-m + dial-up => offline) are tightly related to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /network-manager/+bug/147119. [Bug 230963] [NEW] Gstreamer in Hardy is less capable than previous releases
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem A significant number of video files I have do not play in Totem in Hardy, despite playing perfectly in previous releases of totem. Sound is screwed up, many vids play incredibly slowly - at half speed or worse - and a number simply refuse to play at all. These are video files that have worked in previous versions of Ubuntu as far back as Breezy, so I KNOW the issue is not the video files - it's that gstreamer in Hardy has found some new and creative way to suck. [Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] Ubuntu's new "Offline Mode" feature cannot properly detect when there is a valid network available for use in many circumstances
I just wanted to say "I told you so". I kicked and screamed about this bug for a while before the official Hardy release, but no one would listen. Now, I assure you that the comments to this bug will continue to grow onwards for the 3 years Hardy is supported on the Desktop, which is pretty ridiculous. Firefox is becoming the effective "Operating System" for constant web browsing folks addicted to web 2.6..., and there is no reason Firefox should depend on Network Manager. I thought the one thing that set Linux apart from Windows was the decoupling of components and not forcing people to use certain packages if that is not necessary. Ubuntu has taken a turn for the worse in this specific decision with Firefox, and let's just hope it doesn't continue to happen in the future. We have too much to lose as a community. I have had the same problem for a while now.a local Linux Engineer told me to set up SSH public /private keys. You will have to have the login and password on the local and remote server the same. Set up the keys as follows: SSH Version 2 Step 1 at the command line typessh-keygen -t dsa (the following you should see as output) Generating public/private dsa key pair. Enter file in which to save the key (~/.ssh/id_dsa) just hit enter Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase) just hit enter Enter same passphrase again just hit enter Your identification has been saved in ~/.ssh/id_dsa Your public key has been saved in ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub The key fingeprint is (there will be some really long string) Step 2 copy the ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub file into the file ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the remote server/host Then reboot and retry your connection. (Go to Places, Connect to Server, Choose SSH and enter all info) You should be able to open read/write files directly from the server and save them directly to the server (however, to save them directly to the server you will have to include the entire server file name. EX. ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/locationforfile/filename) SSH Version 1 Step 1 at the command line type cd ~/.ssh then type ssh-keygen -t rsa1 (the following you should see as output) Generating public/private rsa1 key pair. Enter file in which to save the key (~/.ssh/identity) just hit enter Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase) just hit enter Enter same passphrase again just hit enter Your identification has been saved in ~/.ssh/identity Your public key has been saved in ~/.ssh/identity.pub The key fingeprint is (there will be some really long string) Step 2 copy the ~/.ssh/identity.pub file into the file ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the remote server/host Then reboot and retry your connection. [Bug 230862] Re: yelp segfaults on symlinked/nonexistent info file
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 215245] Re: Yelp crashes when trying to open o help topic
Sebastien - I've just come back to this bug report because I've had a similar experience with another user who isn't getting a crash report with Apport (even though it is enabled). It turns out that Apport doesn't catch SIGABRT, which is what Yelp is terminating with here. I don't know if Apport is meant to catch this or not, so I asked question 33050 to try and clarify it. If it is a bug in Apport, I'll open a bug report as I can reproduce it without fail here. Not quite the same on Hardy. 1. In the Computer view, select a removable volume and look in the File menu. [Bug 201701] Re: Greeter appears to be crashing
I also had this problem after reinstalling my Wacom Bamboo1 tablet. I had it working just fine on Gutsy, but the Hardy upgrade breaks every x.org setting there is. However, opening a terminal (CTRL-ALT-F1), killing all gdm instances (type "ps -eF | grep gdm" to see them) and then running "startx" got me back in a normal desktop situation. [Bug 230835] [NEW] GVFS SSH seemingly ignores group permissions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs On the server I connect to through SSH, there is a directory owned by root and a special group, chmodded 770, to prevent users not part of the group from accessing the data. My user account on the server is part of this group, and therefore has full access to the contents of this directory. In Nautilus, I'm fully capable of reading the contents of this directory (meaning it must be noting the g+r permission) but it refuses to copy anything into this path, as I was capable of doing before in Ubuntu 7.10. [Bug 183136] Re: Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'
I got the "Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'" I am using gmail over pop3 with SSL on Hardy Heron. I am using Swedish language if that matters. What I did was: mv .evolution .evolution-backup And then the error disappeared. I will report back if I get the bug again, but I do think it should be open since the bug "Error while Storing folder 'INBOX'" apparently still present. -- Error while Storing folder 'INBOX' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183136 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
