[Bug 234887] Re: video player only shows a horizontal line

2008-05-25 Thread Nick Ellery
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then
provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

As numerous people have stated before, running gnome-power-manager

[Bug 232411] Re: Global proxy settings only propagated when application is launched from the command prompt.

2008-05-25 Thread Ciprian Enache
Proxy configuration done through System -> Preferences -> Network Proxy.
Proxy is set to -> Manual Proxy Configuration, using same proxy for all
protocols and using port 8001.

This results in the following output in Gnome Terminal :
env| grep proxy
http_proxy=http://192.168.1.1:8001/
no_proxy=localhost,127.0.0.0/8,*.local

By command prompt I mean the Gnome Terminal.

Expected behavior is that Google Earth would use the proxy settings if it is
launched either from the Terminal or from the Menus. Currently it only respects
the settings if launched from the terminal. If launched from the menu it fails
to connect to the login/authentication server. The exact error message is :
"Warning
Google Earth could not contact the authentication server to activate your
session.
The application will continue to operate but will only display data available
locally (in cache).
For more information please visit:
>OK<"

Behavior persists across restarts.

[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone

2008-05-25 Thread Deeta
I just found a dirty workaround for those people who want to set UTC as their
locations timezone.
If you edit your locations timezone to 'Africa/Abidjan' then you will in effect
have UTC as you local timezone. (Abidjan's timezone is +0 and it does not use
Daylight saving time which in effect means that it is in sync with universal
time)
Drawbacks could be:
1. unknown consequences as the system now thinks you live in Africa
2. Timezone is named GMT instead of UTC (but this purely aesthetic as in 1972
GMT was replaced by UTC even if the historical names were kept in some places)

[Bug 213053] Re: Totem is 'uninterruptible'

2008-05-25 Thread Glyph Lefkowitz
Sadly I can't remove my mistaken report against Fuse or the probably-
wrong report against Totem, but the additional report of "apt-get"
becoming unkillable suggests that this is clearly a kernel bug (as my
original duplicate bug said).

Can anyone kernel-savvy give us some help with diagnosing or narrowing
down this bug? My media center, running Hardy, seems to exhibit this
bug at least once a week if I'm using totem; but, interestingly, not if
I'm running VLC. If anyone has some suggested additional diagnosis,
I'll switch my default media player back so that I can get those
periodic crashes back and gather data. I'm keeping most of my machines
on Gutsy right now because this is a reliability disaster for me (my
only hardy machine requires weekly rebooting, either from compiz or
totem doing this) so I'm willing to put in a bit of work to get it
resolved.

[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone

2008-05-25 Thread Deeta
The problem is two-fold:

1.
The clock-applet will try to force the system timezone to the timezone of the
location you are trying to set as home.
(This is really awkward for international minded people who have long since
abandoned local time in favor of world time)

2.
the clock-applet does not accept direct timezones settings in tzdata (the Etc/
range)

No. 2 foils a possible workaround:
I tried to edit my home locations timezone to 'Etc/UTC' so that it matches my
system timezone and will thus resume displaying my local weather in the
taskbar. Unfortunately the clock applet seems to be ignorant of the presence of
direct (non-geographical) timezone input and will not set the locations
timezone to 'Etc/UTC'

@Sebastien: Yes, I think the clock applet should be able to function
fully without it trying to force a change in my system time. An elegant
solution would if every defined location's weather could be optionally
set to be displayed in the taskbar. This way the inability of the clock
to acknowledge the 'Etc' set of tzdata would not inhibit users from
seeing their local weather :D

I think this has to do with problems with ehci-hcd, maybe in connection

When I remove this module, the drive works properly, maybe on

[Bug 234296] Re: ubuntu 64 bits , radio not playing in rhythmbox

2008-05-25 Thread Mauricio Peñaloza S .
Sure, if you add this url: http://streaming.iberoamerican.cl/futuro the
rhythmbox doesn't play anything and give the error message.
After that, you copy the same url in Totem, and it plays without a problem,
then if you open rhythmbox, it freezes by a moment, then you close booth
applications and when open again Rhythmbox, the url works perfect.
It's like Totem says where is the codecs to play the url.

[Bug 234856] [NEW] Nautilus: Up button twice does not update location field

2008-05-25 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Nautilus, when I press the up button button twice quickly, the panel
displaying the icons shows the directory that I navigated to correctly
but the Location bar only displays as if I had only navigated up one
directory.

To replicate:
Launch Natilus
It will display your home directory ( /home/yourusername )
Click on Up button twice, quickly.
The icon panel will display icons for the root directory ( / ).

Expected behavior:
The location bar should show the root directory ( / ).

Observed behavior:
The location bar showed the /home directory.
Clicking on the "Home" folder icon is a NOOP, presumably because Natilus
thinks you are already at the /home location.

The same behavior occurs whether the location bar is button-based or
text-based.

Ubuntu version: Hardy LTS (8.04) release.

[Bug 201377] Re: [hardy][regression] Open With properties unable to change default

2008-05-25 Thread hirumono
I don't know if it's worth to open another bug report: as of now, under Hardy
Heron, Nautilus exhibits a strange behaviour. Just use the "open with" feature
to open a file type (.jpeg, .avi or whatever else), which already has a default
app, with an application not yet listed in the menu: you select the program
from the list and everything works right, but then the new application becomes
the default.
I don't know if it's a regression - in all previous Ubuntus the new app didn't
become the default - or if it's meant to work this way from now on, in which
case I think it's not a good idea.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone

2008-05-25 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
The main problem is that the user can end up with no weather showing in
the system tray, but with no indication of why. I was saying above that
you should be able to set a location to be your home location without
having to change your computer's timezone to match. (i.e., don't make it
depend on tzdata at all.)

Alternatively, an even simpler change would be to take the "Set" button
that appears in the pull-down menu (the one that sets that to be your
home location and changes the timezone) and put it in Preferences ->
Locations too, together with the Home icon. That way it becomes much
clearer why there's no weather in the system tray. (I've attached a
mock-up of this.) Deeta and others in a similar situation could still
use the stand-alone Weather Report applet, which doesn't require your
timezone to match.

The tooltip for the "Set" button should also be changed to "Set this as
my home location". Currently it is "Set as current timezone for this
computer", which is missing part of the picture.

[Bug 191548] Re: Evolution frequently displays "Your Calendar/Tasks will not be available until Evolution is restarted." (Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4)

2008-05-25 Thread jtuchscherer
I created the stack trace for the evolution process. I am not sure if
that is right one. I assume that it has something to do with the
exchange plugin. The calendar does not crash when I look only at my
google calendar. Let me know if I should create a strace for the
evolution-exchange process as well.

In the log you will see that at 11:07:11 I started to look at the
calendar. I got the "Your Calendar will not be available until Evolution
is restarted." message 10 seconds after that. I closed evolution after
another 10 seconds.

I hope that helps

One last important detail I just noticed. The problem only occurs when I am

luck.

[Bug 234794] Re: Directories disappear in nautilus, after reboot they are back again

2008-05-25 Thread Markus Drexelius
I am not sure, when exactly the problem occurs and it isn't really
reproducable. The last time it happened when the computer run a while
and I logged in. My home directory is affected by the problem: some
directories are visible, many others doesn't exist any longer in
nautilus. I tried everything: logout and login again, refreshing the
file lists and so on. But only a complete reboot solved the problem (for
a while).

The affected partition is a reiserfs-partition. Because of the fact that
all directory were shown in a command shell and not in nautilus I
reasoned that's maybe a problem of nautilus...

Sorry, what's a "stock configuration"?

The problem occurs since upgrading from ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04. I hadn't
any problems before.

[Bug 199319] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_create_instance()

2008-05-25 Thread Spike the Dingo
Same problem here.

I'm not sure it's connected, but my podcasts are not all being updated
(when they do update). The feed does not show a new podcast when I
update it, even though I am quite certain there is a new podcast. My fix
for this has been deleting the troublesome feed and then re-adding it.

When I need to update all my podcasts, I've first updated one podcast
feed, individually, and then updated them en-masse and this keeps RB
from crashing. I'm not, however, convinced that they are being updated
properly (as explained above).

This issue is driving me nuts.

[Bug 230306] Re: update the hardy version to the new 0.4.3.1?

2008-05-25 Thread unggnu
Seems to work fine for me so far. I have tested importing, deleting,
categorizing, printing, slideshow, fullscreen and screensaver. I haven't a big
photo db here but I upgrade it soon on a client which has one. If there are any
problem I'll report back.
Btw. is this for hardy-updates or hardy-backports?

I cannot reproduce this with Hardy as of today. So, I would consider
this bug fixed.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy SOLVED --- BURN AT 2X

2008-05-25 Thread Arnaud Dessein
Same problem here. I have a Sony VGN-C1S laptop with a Pionner DVR-416M
CD/DVD recorder. I can no longer burn CD's or DVD's with neither brasero
nor nautilus-cd-burner...

Here is a log file from brasero

I hope a fix will be released soon (and happy to know the problem
doesn't come from my CD's).

Good luck and thank you...

[Bug 222307] Re: fspot print dialog [Hardy Heron]

2008-05-25 Thread unggnu
@Achim
This isn't a bug in F-Spot this is a bug in Gnome printer dialog. Many Gnome
apps have this problem afaik.

Many thanks for uploading. I haven't expected this to be in Hardy
without self compiling. Especially the printing dialog is very
important.

[Bug 151514] Re: rhythmbox uses 100% CPU time when using crossfading

2008-05-25 Thread Philipp Kohlbecher
I might be having the same problem. While playback of mp3 and ogg files
works fine, enabling the crossfader (and restarting rhythmbox) increases
rhythmbox's CPU usage from single digits to about 20 or 30%. This is
more pronounced for certain audio files than for others--though I
haven't been able to discern a pattern yet. Also, starting other
applications or opening other windows sometimes causes audio playback to
stutter.

I am using hardy with rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu6.
