[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone
I just found a dirty workaround for those people who want to set UTC as their locations timezone. If you edit your locations timezone to 'Africa/Abidjan' then you will in effect have UTC as you local timezone. (Abidjan's timezone is +0 and it does not use Daylight saving time which in effect means that it is in sync with universal time) Drawbacks could be: 1. unknown consequences as the system now thinks you live in Africa 2. Timezone is named GMT instead of UTC (but this purely aesthetic as in 1972 GMT was replaced by UTC even if the historical names were kept in some places) -- weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 213053] Re: Totem is 'uninterruptible'
Sadly I can't remove my mistaken report against Fuse or the probably- wrong report against Totem, but the additional report of "apt-get" becoming unkillable suggests that this is clearly a kernel bug (as my original duplicate bug said). Can anyone kernel-savvy give us some help with diagnosing or narrowing down this bug? My media center, running Hardy, seems to exhibit this bug at least once a week if I'm using totem; but, interestingly, not if I'm running VLC. If anyone has some suggested additional diagnosis, I'll switch my default media player back so that I can get those periodic crashes back and gather data. I'm keeping most of my machines on Gutsy right now because this is a reliability disaster for me (my only hardy machine requires weekly rebooting, either from compiz or totem doing this) so I'm willing to put in a bit of work to get it resolved. ** Also affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Totem is 'uninterruptible' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213053 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone
The problem is two-fold: 1. The clock-applet will try to force the system timezone to the timezone of the location you are trying to set as home. (This is really awkward for international minded people who have long since abandoned local time in favor of world time) 2. the clock-applet does not accept direct timezones settings in tzdata (the Etc/ range) No. 2 foils a possible workaround: I tried to edit my home locations timezone to 'Etc/UTC' so that it matches my system timezone and will thus resume displaying my local weather in the taskbar. Unfortunately the clock applet seems to be ignorant of the presence of direct (non-geographical) timezone input and will not set the locations timezone to 'Etc/UTC' @Sebastien: Yes, I think the clock applet should be able to function fully without it trying to force a change in my system time. An elegant solution would if every defined location's weather could be optionally set to be displayed in the taskbar. This way the inability of the clock to acknowledge the 'Etc' set of tzdata would not inhibit users from seeing their local weather :D -- weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 234856] [NEW] Nautilus: Up button twice does not update location field
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus In Nautilus, when I press the up button button twice quickly, the panel displaying the icons shows the directory that I navigated to correctly but the Location bar only displays as if I had only navigated up one directory. I don't know if it's worth to open another bug report: as of now, under Hardy Heron, Nautilus exhibits a strange behaviour. [Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone
The main problem is that the user can end up with no weather showing in the system tray, but with no indication of why. I was saying above that you should be able to set a location to be your home location without having to change your computer's timezone to match. (i.e., don't make it depend on tzdata at all.) Alternatively, an even simpler change would be to take the "Set" button that appears in the pull-down menu (the one that sets that to be your home location and changes the timezone) and put it in Preferences -> Locations too, together with the Home icon. That way it becomes much clearer why there's no weather in the system tray. (I've attached a mock-up of this.) Deeta and others in a similar situation could still use the stand-alone Weather Report applet, which doesn't require your timezone to match. The tooltip for the "Set" button should also be changed to "Set this as my home location". Currently it is "Set as current timezone for this computer", which is missing part of the picture. ** Attachment added: "Mock-up showing a UI change that would make things clearer" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14703292/Weather%20TimeZone%20Mock-up.png -- weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 191548] Re: Evolution frequently displays "Your Calendar/Tasks will not be available until Evolution is restarted." (Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4)
I created the stack trace for the evolution process. I am not sure if that is right one. I assume that it has something to do with the exchange plugin. [Bug 234794] Re: Directories disappear in nautilus, after reboot they are back again
I am not sure, when exactly the problem occurs and it isn't really reproducable. The last time it happened when the computer run a while and I logged in. My home directory is affected by the problem: some directories are visible, many others doesn't exist any longer in nautilus. I tried everything: logout and login again, refreshing the file lists and so on. But only a complete reboot solved the problem (for a while). The affected partition is a reiserfs-partition. [Bug 199319] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_create_instance()
Same problem here. I'm not sure it's connected, but my podcasts are not all being updated (when they do update). The feed does not show a new podcast when I update it, even though I am quite certain there is a new podcast. My fix for this has been deleting the troublesome feed and then re-adding it. When I need to update all my podcasts, I've first updated one podcast feed, individually, and then updated them en-masse and this keeps RB from crashing.
