[Bug 235954] [NEW] Yelp crashes regularly or keeps loading indefinitely.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Yelp crashes regularly or keeps loading indefinitely. I managed to identify three reproducible crashes. It is possible that these crashes are due to bad links in the documentation since unlike the other links, the ones which cause crashes seem to be of the form "file://...". Link examples: == 1)Non-working links: "Learning how to program" link: file:/usr/share/gnome/help/programming/C/programming.xml#_auto-gen-id-1 Note: Running it from command-line works: $yelp file:/usr/share/gnome/help/programming/C/programming.xml#_auto-gen-id-1 2)Working link, but causes "double free or corruption" crash if clicked after copying link address: "Advanced topics" link: file:///usr/share/gnome/help/advanced-topics/C/advanced-topics.xml 3)Working link example: "Writing your own programs" link: ghelp:programming Crash #1: = 1)Start yelp: $yelp 2)Click on "advanced topics" 3)Click on "Writing your own programs" 4)Click on "Learning how to program" Now it keeps "loading..." indefinitely for me. 5)Click on "Learning how to program" again (or any other link actually, even the home button), while it is still loading. That's where it crashes for me with the following message: "** ** Yelp:ERROR:(yelp-document.c:275):yelp_document_cancel_page: assertion failed: (document != NULL && YELP_IS_DOCUMENT (document)) Aborted" Crash #2: = 1)Start yelp: $yelp 2)Click on "advanced topics" 3)Click on "Writing your own programs" 4)Right-click on "Learning how to program" and select "copy link address" 5)Click on "Learning how to program" again (left or right) That's where it crashes with the following message: "*** glibc detected *** yelp: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x09a29080 ***" I attached the full backtrace in backtrace_crash2.log. Crash #3 (similar to crash #2): === 1)Start yelp: $yelp 2)Right-click on "advanced topics" and select "copy link address" 3)Click on "advanced topics" again (left or right) That's where it crashes with the following message: "*** glibc detected *** yelp: double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x08868aa8 ***" I attached the full backtrace in backtrace_crash3.log. [Bug 233862] [NEW] nautilus image preview can't cope with 400 photos in a folder
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have 463 JPEGs in a folder, averaging roughly one megabyte each. I need to preview these in order to organize them. When I browse into the folder with Nautilus (i.e. the Ubuntu default Gnome file browser, via the Ubuntu desktop menus), it soon locks up with no busy pointer or other indication that it is still thinking. At first it works for a bit and then locks up as I scroll down. After I've killed nautilus a few times, it simply refuses to display anything in that folder at all, locking up right away. At the moment it's been stuck for several minutes. Setting a larger thumbnail size with the "+" icon (before it gets to the "instantly locked up" stage) may be a contributing factor. I can scroll through the contents of the same folder in The Gimp's "Open" dialog without crashes or lockups. Is Nautilus smart enough to calculate previews when those files come into view or are likely to come into view or must it do them all at one time? Is there a memory leak in that process perhaps? If I try to change metadata about a file (album name, for example) Rhythmbox will show the change and then revert a few seconds later. Re: [Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"
Yes, there is a couple of ways this can be gotten into hardy. Firstly getting alsa-plugins and alsa-lib into hardy-backports, but that doesn't help resolve the vast majority of possible similar cases to this one that may be out there now, and in the future. The second involves finding the specific fixes in alsa-lib 1.0.16 and backporting them to the version in hardy, which is 1.0.15. Yep, it works now that's patched (using gvfs 0.2.3). The only thing different i've noticed is a slightly slow access time, as wolfwitch stated (about 3~4 seconds). [Bug 235897] Re: gnome-system-log Gtk-CRITICAL Segmentation fault
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 232027] Re: Closing tab results in not accepting input
Okay, so I verified that, while blowing away my gnome-terminal config and restarting GNOME does not eliminate the problem, a fresh new account does not exhibit the symptoms. The difference appears to be that my normal account is set up to use the SCIM X Input Method. On a fresh account, if I do an "im-switch -s scim", and then restart that user's GNOME session, I am then able to reproduce the symptoms on that account, using the steps I described. So, the issue is likely that gnome-terminal mishandles something related to XIMs (though, it _could_ be SCIM-specific). People that use gnome-terminal and need to type in relatively exotic (usually, Asian) characters, will likely experience this problem, while folks who can get what they need from ASCII characters and maybe dead- letter keys or combination keys, probably won't. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Summary changed: - Closing tab results in not accepting input + Closing tab results in not accepting input, when XIM is active ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Steps to reproduce (some steps may not be necessary; I'm not on my home machine right now so can't eliminate the unnecessary steps): 1. Open gnome-terminal 2. Type some stuff (may not be necessary) 3. Open a new tab via Control-Shift-T 4. Type some stuff (may not be necessary) 5. Close the tab (I usually do this via Control-D in the shell) Resulting Behavior: Keys typed in the original tab are no longer processed (they are, however, queued up: see the Workarounds). Expected Behavior: Keys typed in the original tab should be processed as normal, appearing and taking effect in the terminal. Workarounds: - - Opening a new tab again will cause all the keys that had been typed in the original tab to be processed immediately. Closing that tab again results in the same buggy behavior. + - Opening a new tab again will cause all the keys that had been typed in the original tab to be processed immediately. Closing that tab again results in the same buggy behavior. [NOTE: this does not appear to be the case lately; nothing previously typed is processed, it must be retyped.] - Opening a new _window_, via Control-Shift-N, will cause all the keys to be processed immediately, and closing the new window does _not_ result in the original terminal window locking up again. Apologies for not specifying the gnome-terminal package version; I'm away from the affected system at this moment. However, I am running Hardy Heron (8.04), and my packages were up-to-date as of last night. -- Closing tab results in not accepting input, when XIM is active https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 235894] [NEW] Drawer in gnome-panel seems to be stuck in a infinite loop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I have a drawer in my top gnome-panel, which in turn has three other drawers (referred to as "secondary drawers hereafter). Expanding the main drawer will reveal the icons for the other drawers. I can expand the secondary-level of drawers and select an application from them. When I do so all the drawers will be collapsed as expected. The next time I click on the main drawer, it should expand and show all the secondary drawers as being expanded (as that's how it was before selecting an app). All this worked fine in Gutsy, Feisty, etc. I upgraded to Hardy and now when I expand the main drawer as mentioned above, gnome-panel eats a lot of CPU and none of the drawers are shown. Another thing I noticed with the new version of drawer is that, it is animated. So I guess somewhere, the animation of the main drawer expanding/dropping and the secondary drawers expanding, is clashing and causing an infinite loop. gnome-panel: Installed: 1:2.22.1.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:2.22.1.3-0ubuntu1 ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Drawer in gnome-panel seems to be stuck in a infinite loop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235894 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 232027] Re: Closing tab results in not accepting input
I thought it was quite clear: what is unclear about it? (Being unclear, and being unreproducible to you, strike me as distinct complaints.) No other steps. The given steps reproduce the problem very reliably for me. Obviously there's a difference between my environment and yours, but as to what it might be, I couldn't guess. Since gnome-terminal itself is actually responding to Control-Shift-T for opening new tabs, or Control-Shift-N for new windows, it seems entirely possible that the issue is really with libvte, or perhaps some issue involving both gnome-terminal and libvte. The fact that having opened a new tab or window alters the behavior, though, tells me that gnome-terminal must have at least something to do with it. I've attached my profile settings, in case they are part of why I'm able to reproduce the problem. I'll try blowing it away, meanwhile, to see if that stops the issue. Since I'm at my laptop, I now have the gnome-terminal version available: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 libvte9 is 1:0.16.13-1ubuntu1. ** Attachment added: "~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default/%gconf.xml" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14805240/%25gconf.xml -- Closing tab results in not accepting input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 235878] [NEW] Incorrect case for a folder path on a fat-formated volume creates a duplicate folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus See video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1fsngMKQyU See also forum thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=805971 Bug is in: Ubuntu 8.04 (Assumed) Package: nautilus 1:2.22.3-0ubuntu1 Rationale: Fat filesystems are not case-sensitive, and are not compliant with Unix naming conventions. Fat filesystems are still common on dual-boot systems and are widely used on USB thumb drives and digital camera memory cards, and some attention should be given to make sure fat's limitations are handled gracefully, especially given its continued use. Expected to happen: A user has a folder with subfolders and data, called 'Oh-no' on a fat filesystem. The user is working with tree view open on the side panel in Nautilus. The path of the folder is /fat/Oh-no. The user types the path incorrectly, mistaking the case - '/fat/oh-no.' Nautilus should: A. Ignore the mistake and point to '/fat/Oh-no,' possibly correcting the path's incorrect case for the user (this is what MS explorer on Windows XP does. In Dolphin on KDE 4.1 beta 1, the path is not corrected for the user, but no unexpected behavior occurs. [see "what happened instead"]). -Or- B. Return an error, saying that '/fat/oh-no' does not exist (as it does does not, using strict case-sensitivity). What happened instead: In tree view, on the left hand side pane, a second folder appears. Both '/fat/Oh-no' and 'fat/oh-no' are visible. Both appear to contain identical subfolders and files, though only one copy of the data exists. Why this bug should be fixed: The creation of a duplicate folder invites the user to press "delete" to remove the redundant files. Yet there is only one copy of the data. Nautilus misrepresents the data on the drive, compounding user mistakes. [Bug 234747] Re: hangs after whois 88.198.41.48
With all respect a 'hang' does not produce a backtrace in my opinion. I could be wrong Bug can be easily reproduced. My time is now limited but I promise I will look at it and do my best to produce a backtrace. -- hangs after whois 88.198.41.48 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234747 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"
The new libasound2 package makes it better, but doesn't actually fix the issue. Amarok doesn't actually freak out after playing flash in the browser, but it doesn't work anymore either. Closing the browser doesn't help, but restarting amarok does (still requires a kill).
