[Bug 208979] Re: gdmsetup crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-06-03 Thread Myles Green
Hi, the only thing I've been able find is once you modify the gdm config
which creates the file /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom you end up with gdm
crashing every time you try to login. This seems to have been corrected
in a recent upgrade though as I am now able to modify the gdm config
without any crashing. I don't know what else to say or what information
I could supply at this point.

Regards, Myles

In Yahtzee, every additional 5-of-a-kind scores not only in the position
in which you place it, but also an additional 100 points in the

This could be an option in Preferences, but these are the default rules.

Example:

Roll 1 [4 4 4 4 4]
5-of-a-kind 50 points

Roll 2 [3 3 3 3 3]
3s 15 points

I'm refiling this against evince since it sounds like from the comments
that this is where the bug really is.

If the X server crash can be reproduced reliably with the evince crash,
please feel free to open a task against xorg-server, however make sure
to include your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and a full backtrace
(http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing).

[Bug 237231] [NEW] Minimize, close, maximize

2008-06-03 Thread VTshredder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have been using the player for almost a month now without an issue. Out of
nowhere, i can no longer Minimize, Maximize, or close (quit) the player. The
little icons ("X" to close & minimize and maximize boxes) that used to be in
the top right hand corner have disappeared. It is always on top of every window
and i cannot even click on the desktop icon to minimize the player. When i go
to: Music > Quit, the quit option is not available (un-clickable). My only
option to access my toolbars is to click EDIT > Preferences. Only then do i
have access to my toolbars and i must click the desktop icon in order to
minimize the player.
My only option is ALT-TAB to flip through open windows, and there was a time i
had to force quit (cold start the PC) in order to gain control of the computer.
I am running H. Heron Ubuntu and never had a problem with the player until the
very first time i changed the view mode to "Small Mode". After that, i have
had this issue.

[Bug 236332] Re: No sound on e-mail atttachments

2008-06-03 Thread Reece
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 157281 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157281

This is almost certainly not a duplicate of bug 157281. For 157281, the
cause and remedy were straightforward: the accepted mimetypes are
hardcoded in /usr/lib/evolution/2.22/plugins/org-gnome-audio-
inline.eplug and audio/microsoft-wav was not in that list. In this bug,
the user reported totem as the problem application and there's no
indication that evo or the evo audio plugin is involved.

James & Rose-Marie- Here are a few things to try:
- save the attachment and open it with totem manually, either on the command
line or through the file browser.
- also try hovering over the attachment (this causes audio files to play, per
pref in Edit>Preferences>Preview tab)
- report the behavior you get with another mail agent (Thunderbird, evo, or
kmail)

[Bug 210468] Re: try to access a .Trash-$USER directory on autofs mounts

2008-06-03 Thread Paul Smith
Just a comment on point (c) above: I don't think this is quite as
innocuous as you suppose. While looking at the root of a normal
automount point for a non-existent directory (or two, in this case)
isn't so bad (except for the annoying log spam), there are various types
of maps which take any random set of characters and try to do something
with them.

For example, if you try to access /net/.Trash then (on systems where
it's enabled) a script /etc/auto.net is invoked with an argument of
".Trash" as the putative hostname. This leads to attempts to do DNS
lookups, run showmount, and other dodgy operations which, on a well-
behaved system, should still not be a major concern but are
significantly more costly than a simple directory lookup failure.

Also, some maps, commonly /home maps, avoid very long lists in their
maps by using map key substitution; so there's one entry containing a
"&" and whatever text is used for that, a mount request is made for that
(for example in /home/psmith "&" would be "psmith" and the mount request
would be made with that--if you try /home/.Trash then & is ".Trash" and
a mount request is made for that). This can also cause problems, most
especially for the server which is constantly rejecting all these
invalid mount requests from all the hosts on the network. It can also
cause delays if the server or network is busy.

I do agree this should be fixed: I can't think of any situation where it
would be legitimate and reasonable to have a .Trash directory in an
automount map mount point (mount point of type autofs). Everything in
an autofs mount point is, by definition, a partition mount itself which
means that any .Trash entry would have to be a seperately mounted
partition... which means that the real trash would be in
.../.Trash/.Trash --- right?

It seems reasonable to me to actually make the fs types that gvfsd-trash
looks in be configurable, in some way. This is a larger change of
course, but it's the common way to avoid hardcoding this stuff (for
things like slocate etc.)

If someone has a patch they would like me to test, I can do that.

I believe it's been a problem since 6.06. Posting here instead of bug

instances of this bug in Hardy.

I can confirm this for Hardy. In Nautilus, Location, network:///,

[Bug 210468] Re: try to access a .Trash-$USER directory on autofs mounts

2008-06-03 Thread Paul Smith
I'm seeing this too, and something about it is causing my system to
hang. Basically, when I come in the morning I can't do hardly anything,
including reboot. Investigation has shown that it's because any attempt
to read the /proc/mounts file causes a permanent hang on the process
(can't even kill -9 etc.). Lots and lots of programs, even ones like
"ls", try to read this file. I have to power-cycle the system to
recover. My system load is above 7, even though my CPU usage is
negligible (a sure sign that processes are hung in the kernel).

Last night I started a script that ran date, then cat /proc/mounts, then
sleep 15 and left it running all night. I got the hang at 22:51 and
looking through my logs, sure enough right at that exact time I saw a
slew of these .Trash access errors show up in my /var/log/syslog file.
I'm going to continue to test this theory to see if it was just
coincidence or not.

[Bug 33214] Re: gnome-screensaver restores default color-correction settings

2008-06-03 Thread dashua
I would hope. I've been using the patch for a few weeks now with no
issues. I just rebuilt gnome-screensaver and added the patch. I see no
regressions thus far. This is much better than losing your gamma,
color, contrast, brightness, etc., everytime gnome-screensaver
activates. Well, at worst case scenerio you'll just have to wait until
October.

[Bug 224803] Re: [hardy]No resume from standby

2008-06-03 Thread lariamat
I tried a lot of things with /etc/default/acpi-support settings.
I also found out that there were 2 sony modules loaded (sonypi and
sony_laptop). I tried each of them seperately but no success.

Nothing worked for me until now.

Is there a standby/resume log file or something like that?

What can I do to find a solution?

[Bug 237191] [NEW] package gnome-applets-data 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: files list file for package `evolution-common' contains empty filename

2008-06-03 Thread MauriceGoodf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

After trying to install Google Earth, the Gnome clock applet kept
crashing. I tried to re-install the Gnome panel but it failed - the
error message indicated that the package list for evolution-common was
empty and that it therefore could not upgrade the package. On a
subsequent attempt to run the Synaptic Package manager, it crashed -
this report.

[Bug 235918] Re: evince blinks when switching windows in full screen mode

2008-06-03 Thread MarMarAba
Excuse me for the long time to reply, I'm in exams period. I have the
same problem with the full screen mode of OpenOffice.org Presentaciones
(Impress), so I think it can be a problem of the compiz. Without using
compiz efects it doesn't work the same way, by pressing ALT-TAB with
compiz the windows apears on top with every press. With out compiz you
must select the new windows and then change to the top of the desktop.

otras.)

Thanks a lot.

Okay, now, after looking very closely, I found that 1px line about the
current slide.

I *found* it. So, how is this not a bug, if I have to search for it?

And what about darker themes? Those usually have a light highlight color
- very bad for a 1px line on white background.

Clearly a design bug.

sorry, just found: in the picture I marked the disc activity instead of CPU.
The left in panel is CPU.

[Bug 214903] Re: Aisleriot regression for double-clicking stacks

2008-06-03 Thread Steve Beattie
Note for those attempting to verify this bugfix: gnome-games-data also
needs to be updated as well.

In 1:2.22.2.1-0ubuntu1, I've verified that double-clicking completed
piles works again. Also, the double-clicking on a stack with a single
card causing a crash behavior is also fixed. I've also verified glchess
does not crash when starting up.

I've not tested the rest of the package very much to verify that there
aren't any further regressions in the update.

Re: [Bug 231515] Re: evolution task printing problems

2008-06-03 Thread Terry Riegle
Disabled hardy-proposed ddeb; successfully installed evolution debug. (I
did this under my administration log-in name.)

Ran gdb for evolution, had to go through initial evolution set up
procedure for administration log-in name since I don't normally use
evolution from this account; I normally run it from my standard user
account.

Entered a few test tasks and tried printout; other than page heading
referring to "Upcoming Appointments" rather than tasks, printout
appeared OK. Quit debug.

Logged out as admin and logged in under my regular user name. Tried
task printout and saw compressed and garbled display. One difference
between the two accounts; under my user account my task display is set
up to be grouped by Category. (Right click task heading, select
Customize Current View, pull down Group By and select Category.)

I turned the Group By option off and the printout appeared normal. (With
the exception of the "Upcoming Appointments" heading but I consider that
cosmetic; worth fixing but not a major issue.)
Tried other grouping options and they also distorted the printout.

Bottom line; task printout is distorted if grouping is selected.

During these tests I never saw the intermittent crash that had appeared
earlier. There was an evolution update that was applied by update
manager, that may have something to do with it.

If you need any more information let me know.

Terry

[Bug 237095] Re: Provide a mp3gain plugin for Brasero

2008-06-03 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
comment from upstream:

"Thanks for reporting the bug. That has been done in brasero-0.7.90 (and
therefore in SVN trunk) not only for mp3 but also for any other sound file
supported by gstreamer; thanks to this great library (bad plugins required) =).
Now shouldn't it work properly, please feel free to reopen this bug.

[Bug 236751] Re: Graph drawing starts outside graph area

2008-06-03 Thread MichaelH
Hi Pedro,
maybe my explanation did not hit the point.
I am talking about the opened system monitor (after double clicking on the
small part in the Panel). The drawing is correct, but out of the time behaviour
a - say - peek in CPU appears exact that time later what the graph needs to
walk from edge of window to edge of graph drawing area.
In the attached a screen shot you see the panel system monitor and the open
(big) system monitor. In the panel is a CPU peek, that does not yet appear in
the big window. The peak appears in the big window with the time delay the
graph needs to walk from right border of the window until the diagram area
starts.
Compiz is currently disabled.
