[Bug 240591] [NEW] cursor is not erased in old position in evolution

2008-06-17 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

While editing a new message in evolution the cursor is sometimes not erased
in the old position when I move it e.g. with the cursor keys. This results in
many cursors, only one of them is the real one.
This bug occurs ALWAYS after resizing or re-activating the message window. When
I start entering text into a new window, it does not occur.
This bug does NOT occur in other applications like e.g. gedit, so it seems to
be an EVOLUTION bug.

The screen shot can be reproduced as follows:
1. Open new email message (Neu)
2. Set cursor to message section and type 1234567890
3. Activate another window and reactivate the message window
4. hit 10 times the cursor-left key

Re: [Bug 240116] Re: Default File Naming in nautilus

2008-06-17 Thread Sriram
Dear Mr A.Walton,

The template is the same. I shall give you an example of a situation.

In my ~/Templates folder, there is a file called New Word Document.odf
With this, if I right click somewhere in nautilus or the desktop, in the
context menu, I get the opportunity to create documents identical to
New Word Document.odf. That is the very aim of Templates, i.e., to
make life easier, to avoid several clicks to search for open office [or
any type of document] each time if one wants to create that type of
document.
The mistake here is like this:
If one has created a new document of that template, named as New Word
Document.odf then when he creates the 2nd new document of that
template, then:
Instead of giving the default name of the 2nd document as New Word
1.odf, [This is an automatic naming] it names it as New Word.odf 1,
i.e., instead of naming 1 at the end of the name, it rather appends 1
even after the extension , that is, odf, here. This makes nautilus think
that odf 1 is a new type of a file.

I sincerely hope that the information that you require has been detailly
described. These are small technical mistakes that may go unnoticed,
however, people new to gnome or linux will not know to handle correctly.
[They wont know that the mistake is caused due to extension error.]

Thanking You,
Yours sincerely,
--SRIRAM

2008-06-17 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
I can hereby confirm this bug. It seems only to occur when writing a
mail for an OWA (exchange) account. To reproduce: Setup an OWA Exchange
accout in Evolution, click New and start typing a mail. After some
seconds Evolution freezes.

I made an strace for further investigation (see attached file, where I
just replaced some personal information like email and ip addresses) .
See the line starting with [pid 18425] 09:30:26.766802 and the
following. This is place, where Evolution started to freeze. I assume is
connected to the keyring-manager:

Assigning Ubuntu-Desktop-Bugs as this issue has impact on the main
Desktop.

[pid 18425] 09:30:26.766647 connect(50, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp
/keyring-jKjXYb/socket}, 110) = 0

[pid 18425] 09:30:26.766740 write(50, \0, 1) = 1

[pid 18425] 09:30:26.766860 read(50, unfinished ...

After some seconds I forced a quit of the Evolution.

[Bug 240609] [NEW] HFSPLUS formatted iPod causes g_type_instance_get_private assertion fail

2008-06-17 Thread mycl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

It's cool if Linux support for hfsplus isn't such that a mac formatted
iPod can be supported. But Rhythmbox should give a message stating
this.

What it does is in version 0.11.5-0ubuntu7 is:
1. When you plug in the iPod, Rhythmbox launches.
2. Rhythmbox shows the iPod in the left pane under devices like it should.
3. When you drag a song from the library onto the ipod Rhythmbox segfaults with
the message:

(rhythmbox:4121): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private:
assertion `instance != NULL  instance-g_class != NULL' failed
Segmentation fault

This is especially confusing if you didn't launch Rhythmbox from the
command line. In that case, the window just disappears with no
explanation.

My Ubuntu release is 8.04

[Bug 163898] Re: openoffice document icon is blurry when upscaled

2008-06-17 Thread Milan
Sure, using gtk_window_set_icon_name() would make more sense, we could
report a bug upstream about that. And in the toolbar, this icon looks
blurry too, so this is also a problem within OO.O itself.

[Bug 240615] [NEW] Dead keys don't work when certain Greek keyboard layouts are in the selected layouts list

2008-06-17 Thread Scott Severance
Public bug reported:

When the Greek Extended or Polytonic keyboards are in the list of
selected keyboard layouts, then dead keys don't work--even in unrelated
layouts. I've tested this with both the US International (AltGr dead
keys) and US Dvorak layouts.

By don't work, I mean that they produce no output themselves and don't
influence other keystrokes. For example, RightAlt5 should produce €
but it produces nothing. RightAlt' followed by e should produce é, but
it instead produces e.

EDIT: This is in Hardy.

Yes, deactivating GAL server autocompletion solves the problem. I tried it 5
times, reproducing both good and bad
behaviour. Seems that option Autocompletion - Global Address list
regardles if set or unset (like in my case) causes the troubles.
Enabling autocompletion od This machine - personal doesnt do any harm.
You think that keyring-manager is troublesome when connecting/authenticating
to GAL server? Strange thing is, I dont have GAL server even configured

Yeah I think I'm hitting this too. Also a vanilla Ubuntu Desktop 8.04

If I ssh -X in, users-admin fails with the Unable to lookup session

If it helps:

[Bug 136871] Re: Idle/inactive action/autosuspend results in a suspend AND a hibernate

2008-06-17 Thread Matt Zimmerman
I ran gnome-power-manager with --verbose, and the log seems to provide
some hints as to the nature of the problem. I see the following
sequence of events:

[...]
[idle_do_sleep] gpm-manager.c:813 (09:37:37):cannot suspend (error: General

This shows:

1. The system being idle for the specified period of time, and gpm deciding to
sleep
2. The system resuming some 10 hours later
3. gpm detecting a failure to suspend, though in fact it was suspended for 10
hours
4. gpm trying hibernation instead, still trying to satisfy the original request
to suspend

I see that others have seen the opposite, so it may fall back from
hibernate to suspend as well. I'm attaching the complete log.

[Bug 227263] Re: segfault when splitting window

2008-06-17 Thread Chris Jones
Wayne: No, this isn't affecting all Ubuntu 8.04 users - I run Terminator
on two 8.04 machines. one was a fresh install, one was an upgrade. Shang
is able to reproduce it on 8.04 machines, but I can't, so there is some
deeper mystery here, but I'm pretty sure it's not Terminator's fault,
and unfortunately I don't think we can work around it from Terminator.

don't try to overule the changes that's not constructive, this bug is a

[Bug 239859] Re: Syntax highlighting for .ini files

2008-06-17 Thread Fred
Yes, I now see it tat it already exists a .ini file hightlighter in
gedit.

However, when I open a .ini file, it does not syntax hightlight it. I
have to goto the menu and select View Highlight Mode.

When I open a .tex or .c file, its syntax highlighted, but when I open a .ini
file, its not syntax highlighted.

[Bug 204770] Re: [hardy] gdmsetup cause intensive disk activity and take a very long time to open

2008-06-17 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
This feels as the wrong solution to me. Many apps may assume that
Tracker will start by dbus activation. The 'right' fix is to make the
Tracker backend of the filechooser not launch Tracker, merely see if it
is installed (check if it is dbus activatable)[1]. Then if the user
enters a query then Tracker will be launched by dbus activation as it
should.

[1]: Like the deskbar Tracker module does. Should be easy to port to C.

The FLAC files are really quite large... And especially as the bug only
appears when you are adding multiple files (in this case, drag-dropping
whole directory).

Do you have any you can try for yourself? K3b makes flac pretty easy

[Bug 240678] Re: Yen?

2008-06-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 225654] Re: unkillable totem process

2008-06-17 Thread Eythian
This exact same thing happened again. Where was it previously reported
so I can watch that bug? Rebooting to unstick a process is a bit
annoying.
