Thanks, HDave, for your comment. Especially that there is hope at the
end of all this...

However, I already did that. I only allowed the upgrade to the libglib
packages, though - but no dependencies showed...

Anyway, my synaptic reports that the package was upgraded, and the
problem persists.

Perhaps the fix does not work on fat32?

Maybe I have to upgrade everything? I'll try that, since HDave did that
& reports a fix with "very little" side effect.

[Bug 215484] Re: g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC

2008-06-22 Thread BandD
Ok. The new patch works perfectly for me when setting the idle/active
brightness! Nice work there!

I'm still having problems with the battery/ac though. But it I don't
know that it is a problem with YOUR patch--perhaps gpm in general or
ACPI. I had this problem with the Ubuntu's version of gpm in Hardy
(though not in Gutsy). The problem is that when I unplug the power
supply the brightness doesn't change, i.e. it doesn't dim at all. The
icon in the system tray changes, though when I put my mouse over it is
says:

Computer is running on AC power.
Laptop battery 1 hour 35 minutes remaining (78%)

When the power supply is plugged in it says:

Computer is running on AC power.
Laptop batter charging (78%)

So, although it says that it is on AC power in both cases, the second
line tells you which is which, when on battery it give the estimated
time remaining. When on AC it says the battery is charging. So it's
just the first line that gets confused.

This problem is probably not exactly related to this particular bug.
But I wanted to give you the full account of what I'm experiencing on my
machine. The bottom line is that your patch seems to fix this
particular bug. When my screen dims brightness is restored to 100%
again. Before this was not the case. So good work! I've also attached
a log file that details the dimming/un-dimming cycles and several
AC/Battery switches in case you are curious.

It's the last group in the regexp. Eliminating it appears to resolve
the problem, but might increase the rate of false positive matches.
I've committed the change to trunk.

Unfortunately setting the group to non-capturing using (?:) isn't an
option; it's not supported on my vte anyway.

[Bug 242252] [NEW] Brasero can not burn an image from a cuesheet that references Flac track files

2008-06-22 Thread Ludwig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Brasero is not able to handle cuesheets that reference per-track flac
files. This is a common way of backing up CDs.

The cuesheet looks like this (just the two first songs, the rest are the
same.

REM GENRE "Alt. Rock"

The .flac per-track files are in the same folder as the .cue. Audacious can
playback the cuesheet.

When I attempt to burn an "Image" and open the cuesheet with brasero,
after I click "Burn" this is what I get:

Perhaps Brasero can't currently handle .flac files references in

In any case, this is a very common way to store images and I hope

[Bug 215484] Re: g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC

2008-06-22 Thread Paulo J. S. Silva
Thanks for your feedback BandD.

I found a bug in my patch that would prevent it to work if you set some
of the brightness parameters to 0 or 100. For example if you had set
brightness_ac to 100 (which is a quite reasonable value) it would not
work.

I have fixed the bug and I am attaching a new version of the patch. I
have also uploaded a new version of the compiled deb to the same
location described in my previous messages.

Please try this one and tell me if works. If it doesn't work, I would
kindly ask you to send me the current values for brightness_ac,
brightness_battery, and idle_brightness, together with some logging
output from gnome-power-manager.

To get a log of gnome-power-manager activity, kill the old instace with
"killall gnome-power-manger" and call a new one redirecting the output
to a log file. Something like this:

gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon 2> /tmo/gpm-log

[Bug 95177] Re: HTML mail confirmation dialog list needs a scrollable widget

2008-06-22 Thread JM Williams
A couple of workarounds from bug 242231:
Add [a second row of] workspaces or remove the acceptance dialog in the
preferences

Also, if you do *not* have Visual Effects enabled, you *can* Alt-drag
the dialog beyond the top of the screen (at least, it works for me).
So, running “metacity --replace” is a quick way of enabling moving the
dialog, with the expense of losing effects till next login (or compiz is
restarted).

[Bug 242213] [NEW] Move time doesn't start over after turn

2008-06-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Start a new game and select a move time of anything other than
unlimited, eg 1 minute. The timer does not start again from one minute
after making a move, it continues counting down from where it was after
the last move. This means you only have 1 minute total time of all moves
to win the game before running out of time.

This is glChess 2.22.2.1 on Ubuntu 8.04

Maybe this is the way it's supposed to be. I don't know much about chess
but I assumed this would mean one minute for one turn.

[Bug 215484] Re: g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC

2008-06-22 Thread BandD
The patch doesn't seem to work on my system, sadly. I get no response
when unplugging and plugging in the power cord; the screen brightness
doesn't change at all. The screen will dim when idle, but will not
restore ANY brightness once the mouse is moved or a key is pressed. I
can manually restore brightness, but gpm doesn't react to automatically
restore brightness in any way.

If you need any logs or other information, let me know. I'd be happy to
help out in whatever way I can. Your idea seems to be going to right
direction.

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file

2008-06-22 Thread Drew
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 215499 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215499

Can anyone please advise what else to do besides installing libglib2.0-0
(2.16.3-1ubuntu3), to make the fix work.

(I installed the new package and nautilus copy still alters the date).

I'd also like to add my comment as to the importance of the above fix:

Like most commenters above, I agree (redoubled in spades!!!) that any
file management system that claims to copy a file without copying
arguably the most important piece if information associated with it (the
modification date), has rocks in its head (if the "standards" say it
should, then the standards are inconsistent with usability).

If people want to record the copy date, then attach a new date - but the
term "modification date" and "date changed" etc are associated with the
logical change to the content, not to the physical placement. (inot just
by long usage with wi*&%ws, but by the common meaning of the terms).

eg, if I move a book from the dining room to the loungeroom, do I expect
the date published to alter if I claim to have modified a report, I
do not mean just run it through the photocopier. If you say you have
changed your statement, I take you to mean the content has altered, not
that you have moved it to another bookcase (hard copy) or disk drive
(soft copy), etc, etc, ad nauseam.

[Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"

2008-06-22 Thread muadnem

Just did a fresh install of i386 Hardy 8.04 + all updates.

Experiencing the same error even on a totally fresh reboot. The login
screen drum sound plays, but trying to play anything in Totem gives me
the "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument" error. Rhythmbox
refuses to play anything but doesn't give an error.

I'm using an M-Audio Audiophile 96/24 pci sound card.

killall pulseaudio fixes the problem.

However, unlike the previous poster, if I run pulseaudio again manually
the error resumes.

Running pulseaudio manually gives the following output (init errors are
present):

Seems like everyone is having a slightly different variation of this
problem.

[Bug 224153] Re: f-spot won't start (SIGABRT)

2008-06-22 Thread Tom Sutch
In the end I persevered and created a new f-spot database from scratch
-- I then got my hands dirty in sqlite and inserted my old data,
converting to the new database format as I went along. (I was sure that
renaming my ~/.gnome2/f-spot still hadn't worked, but I must have been
wrong).

I have kept the old database and have just run f-spot --debug on that,
which resulted in the attached.

(By the way I'm now on f-spot 0.4.3.1-0ubuntu1.)

Thanks.

[Bug 242231] [NEW] Evolution HTML acceptance dialog too big

2008-06-22 Thread Kasper Meerts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a big family (100+ members) . So I just composed a mail directed to all
of them.
But when I tried to send it, the dialog asking me to confirm they accept HTML
pops up. But it's so huge, I can't click accept.
I solved it by making an extra vertical row of workspaces, but still it's
silly. I couldn't move it with Alt+Drag or Window-Menu -> Move because the
Window Manager restricts the windows from going above the top of the screen.

I've included a screenshot show the height of the dialog with the Expo
plugin from Compiz.

Reproducability:

Send a mail to 50+ recipients.

Workaround:

Add workspaces or remove the acceptance dialog in the preferences

Suggestion:

Make the dialog resizeable, or include a listbox instead of just
printing all names.

[Bug 242209] [NEW] import of contacts from outlook not displayed

2008-06-22 Thread Cyril Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The contacts did not appear in Evolution. I therefore repeatedly tried
to import them from Outlook. Suddenly without warning the multiple
entries showed in Evolution. Is there somway to delete the entire
address book and start over? Better yet is it possible to delete all
multiple entries leaving only one copy behind?

[Bug 242206] [NEW] sometimes doesn't play next song with crossfading enabled

2008-06-22 Thread Brandon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm not sure if this is a duplicate of bug 130213, but occasionally when
listening to an album, the next song won't start after the previous one
is finished. If I press play, it will show it's playing the next song up
top even though nothing is playing, the window title shows the next
song, but says it's paused, and the playlist shows the previous song is
paused. Pressing play again does nothing, and the only way to get the
next song to play again is to double click it in the playlist. This only
happens when crossfading is enabled. Attached is a screenshot of the
player stalled at the end of a song and a one of what happens when I
press play. Note that it shows the previous song is still playing even
though it has reached the end. Also attached is the debug output. I
apologize for the huge file; I just ran the program until the bug
happened. I can't consistently reproduce this.

[Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"

2008-06-22 Thread Alroger Filho
[Update]
Right now, my solution is to killall pulseaudio right after I login, and run
pulseaudio again.

Observe that Bill is probably using aplay, play or sox to play sound
files in the comment above. That will work, since regular ALSA is always
working. esdplay or paplay actually play the sound file through
PulseAudio.

So I added the following script to my Session startup programs:

#!/bin/bash
# fix por PulseAudio auto-start broken

sleep 15
killall pulseaudio
sleep 5
pulseaudio&
sleep 5
paplay /usr/lib/openoffice/share/gallery/sounds/space.wav

[Bug 97253] Re: xchat reconnects on the wrong port number

2008-06-22 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
I'm seeing this issue frequently under 0.18 here, with somewhat more
dire implications. I've got xchat-gnome configured to connect via ssl to
a proxy with a password. When this auto-reconnect bug pops up, it'll
switch ports, or sometimes even the hostname, and disable ssl. As a
consequence, sensitive authentication information is suddenly being sent
via cleartext to a remote server without my prompting. To me this makes
it a pretty serious security issue.

Just done all proposed update.

Connected digital camera via usb. Imported photo's via F-spot and Gthumb only
to fine that the date modified was todays date, ie the creation date on my pc,
and not the date the picture was taken. Previously files imported in gutsy had
the date taken as the modified date.
Within the properties window under the image tab is the correct taken date.

The bug has been fixed now. The latest version of the library
libglib2.0-0 (2.16.3-1ubuntu3) is already available if you allow
"proposed" updates in the list of software sources. I believe it will
soon be included in the next standard update.

[Bug 31255] Re: Video flashes current X contents when resuming laptop

2008-06-22 Thread Justin Husted
I'm reopening this, because this exact issue happens on my laptop using
Hardy. I'm using a Compal CL-56. Basically, it looks like video memory
needs to be wiped and/or the screensaver is getting run *after* the
suspend.

That said, shouldn't this be fixed in the X server?

[Bug 239702] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-06-22 Thread Phil Lello
Ah, I'd been using bad syntax, I had spaces around the = in
=. I've now got the symbols :)

Unfortunately, I've just looked for my core dump, and it's missing...
looks like it fell victim to cron...

/etc/cron.daily/apport:find /var/crash -mindepth 1 -mtime +7 -print0 |
xargs -0 rm -f

Sorry I can't go any further with this now, at least I'll know what to
look out for next time. I'm going to increase my apport cron.daily entry
to clean out after 28 days, and see if I can get the
DebuggingProgramCrash wiki entry enhanced to show the syntax for
specifying the version for those of us still learning!

[Bug 242158] [NEW] vinagre should pause updating for desktops that are not currently on top/ in focus

2008-06-22 Thread jonj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vinagre

With more than one desktop open, as tabs, in vinagre, it seems that all
open sessions are continuously refreshed. This uses both processor and
bandwidth unnecessarily.

I noticed this when the screensaver kicked in on a remote 'vino' desktop
that was a background tab in vinagre. I was under the impression from
using vnc viewer, that the bandwidth in use drops dramatically when a
vnc viewer window is minimized to the taskbar. The ideal scenario, I
think, for vinagre, would be to suspend updating all desktop sessions
that are not the currently active tab, and also to suspend updating with
the vinagre program is minimized to the taskbar.

[Bug 217301] Re: Real Player stream is garbled on BBC radio

2008-06-22 Thread Nick White
Steve: Thanks for the advice - have reported the button problems to a
new bug, #242148.

I couldn't say if it the pause garbling was a regression, as I haven't
used this plugin before Hardy.

Regardless, though, the -proposed version substantially improves the
playback, therefore to my inexperienced eyes it looks like it should be
released.

[Bug 242148] [NEW] Totem/Gstreamer Mozilla plugin doesn't handle all javascript buttons on BBC radio

2008-06-22 Thread Nick White
Public bug reported:

When I listen to BBC radio, the fast-forward and volume buttons don't
work. They use javascript. Also when a stream is returned to a popup
appears asking if I want to continue playback from where I left off, but
pressing "yes" doesn't do so. When said buttons are pressed variations
of the four following lines appear in the terminal:

WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::GetLength'
WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::GetPosition'
WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function
'totemIComplexPlayer::GetBandwidthAverage'
WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::CanStop'

This happens all over the BBC radio site, for example at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio3_aod.shtml?radio3/latejunction_wed
Note that this site may only be accessible to UK IPs, I'm not sure.

P.S. This is using the latest Hardy.

[Bug 242149] [NEW] Clicking 'Up' or 'Back' whilst generating thumbnails does not change location URL

2008-06-22 Thread Dan Lea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Go into a folder of images (in my example the folder name contained
spaces and full stops), click 'Up' or 'Back' before thumbnail generation
is complete and the file list is that of the previous folder but the
location bar displays the location of the subfolder, and this is the
true current location, in that commands such as 'Up' operate from that
folder (clicking 'Up' actually takes you back to the previous folder,
meaning the file list stays the same).

_If_ I'm reading what apt-cache show evolution-dbgsym says correctly,
then it appears it depends on a version of evolution that hasn't been
released yet. I've tried specifying the same version of evolution-dbgsym
as the evolution version (via sudo apt-get install evolution-dbgsym =
2.22.2-0ubuntu1.3), but that doesn't exist.

Evolution runs fine for me, and has done since the upgrade, and as the
crash happened during part of the magic of the hardy upgrade, I don't
know how to replicate the original problem, so I can't just build a
debug version :(

One thing that I can't see as being a factor, but I'll mention on the
off-chance, is that at the time of the upgrade, my ISP's DNS servers had
been playing up, with a high number of timeouts on valid hosts.
