[Bug 215484] Re: g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC
Ok. The new patch works perfectly for me when setting the idle/active brightness! Nice work there! I'm still having problems with the battery/ac though. But it I don't know that it is a problem with YOUR patch--perhaps gpm in general or ACPI. I had this problem with the Ubuntu's version of gpm in Hardy (though not in Gutsy). The problem is that when I unplug the power supply the brightness doesn't change, i.e. it doesn't dim at all. The icon in the system tray changes, though when I put my mouse over it is says: Computer is running on AC power. Laptop battery 1 hour 35 minutes remaining (78%) When the power supply is plugged in it says: Computer is running on AC power. Laptop batter charging (78%) So, although it says that it is on AC power in both cases, the second line tells you which is which, when on battery it give the estimated time remaining. When on AC it says the battery is charging. So it's just the first line that gets confused. This problem is probably not exactly related to this particular bug. But I wanted to give you the full account of what I'm experiencing on my machine. The bottom line is that your patch seems to fix this particular bug. When my screen dims brightness is restored to 100% again. Before this was not the case. So good work! I've also attached a log file that details the dimming/un-dimming cycles and several AC/Battery switches in case you are curious. ** Attachment added: "gpm-log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15518072/gpm-log -- g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 215484] Re: g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC
Thanks for your feedback BandD. I found a bug in my patch that would prevent it to work if you set some of the brightness parameters to 0 or 100. For example if you had set brightness_ac to 100 (which is a quite reasonable value) it would not work. I have fixed the bug and I am attaching a new version of the patch. I have also uploaded a new version of the compiled deb to the same location described in my previous messages. Please try this one and tell me if works. If it doesn't work, I would kindly ask you to send me the current values for brightness_ac, brightness_battery, and idle_brightness, together with some logging output from gnome-power-manager. To get a log of gnome-power-manager activity, kill the old instace with "killall gnome-power-manger" and call a new one redirecting the output to a log file. [Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 215499 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215499 Can anyone please advise what else to do besides installing libglib2.0-0 (2.16.3-1ubuntu3), to make the fix work. (I installed the new package and nautilus copy still alters the date). I'd also like to add my comment as to the importance of the above fix: Like most commenters above, I agree (redoubled in spades!!!) that any file management system that claims to copy a file without copying arguably the most important piece if information associated with it (the modification date), has rocks in its head (if the "standards" say it should, then the standards are inconsistent with usability). If people want to record the copy date, then attach a new date - but the term "modification date" and "date changed" etc are associated with the logical change to the content, not to the physical placement. (inot just by long usage with wi*&%ws, but by the common meaning of the terms). eg, if I move a book from the dining room to the loungeroom, do I expect the date published to alter if I claim to have modified a report, I do not mean just run it through the photocopier. If you say you have changed your statement, I take you to mean the content has altered, not that you have moved it to another bookcase (hard copy) or disk drive (soft copy), etc, etc, ad nauseam. -- Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157396 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"
Just did a fresh install of i386 Hardy 8.04 + all updates. Experiencing the same error even on a totally fresh reboot. [Bug 242231] [NEW] Evolution HTML acceptance dialog too big
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I have a big family (100+ members) . So I just composed a mail directed to all of them. But when I tried to send it, the dialog asking me to confirm they accept HTML pops up. But it's so huge, I can't click accept. I solved it by making an extra vertical row of workspaces, but still it's silly. I couldn't move it with Alt+Drag or Window-Menu -> Move because the Window Manager restricts the windows from going above the top of the screen. I've included a screenshot show the height of the dialog with the Expo plugin from Compiz. Reproducability: Send a mail to 50+ recipients. Workaround: Add workspaces or remove the acceptance dialog in the preferences Suggestion: Make the dialog resizeable, or include a listbox instead of just printing all names. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Evolution HTML acceptance dialog too big https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242231 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 242206] [NEW] sometimes doesn't play next song with crossfading enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox I'm not sure if this is a duplicate of bug 130213, but occasionally when listening to an album, the next song won't start after the previous one is finished. If I press play, it will show it's playing the next song up top even though nothing is playing, the window title shows the next song, but says it's paused, and the playlist shows the previous song is paused. Pressing play again does nothing, and the only way to get the next song to play again is to double click it in the playlist. This only happens when crossfading is enabled. Attached is a screenshot of the player stalled at the end of a song and a one of what happens when I press play. I'm seeing this issue frequently under 0.18 here, with somewhat more dire implications. I've got xchat-gnome configured to connect via ssl to a proxy with a password. When this auto-reconnect bug pops up, it'll switch ports, or sometimes even the hostname, and disable ssl. [Bug 242158] [NEW] vinagre should pause updating for desktops that are not currently on top/ in focus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vinagre With more than one desktop open, as tabs, in vinagre, it seems that all open sessions are continuously refreshed. This uses both processor and bandwidth unnecessarily. I noticed this when the screensaver kicked in on a remote 'vino' desktop that was a background tab in vinagre. I was under the impression from using vnc viewer, that the bandwidth in use drops dramatically when a vnc viewer window is minimized to the taskbar. The ideal scenario, I think, for vinagre, would be to suspend updating all desktop sessions that are not the currently active tab, and also to suspend updating with the vinagre program is minimized to the taskbar. When said buttons are pressed variations of the four following lines appear in the terminal: WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::GetLength' WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::GetPosition' WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::GetBandwidthAverage' WARNING: Site uses unimplemented function 'totemIComplexPlayer::CanStop' This happens all over the BBC radio site, for example at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio3_aod.shtml?radio3/latejunction_wed Note that this site may only be accessible to UK IPs, I'm not sure. P.S. This is using the latest Hardy. ** Affects: gst-plugins-ugly0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Totem/Gstreamer Mozilla plugin doesn't handle all javascript buttons on BBC radio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gst-plugins-ugly0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 242149] [NEW] Clicking 'Up' or 'Back' whilst generating thumbnails does not change location URL
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Go into a folder of images (in my example the folder name contained spaces and full stops), click 'Up' or 'Back' before thumbnail generation is complete and the file list is that of the previous folder but the location bar displays the location of the subfolder, and this is the true current location, in that commands such as 'Up' operate from that folder (clicking 'Up' actually takes you back to the previous folder, meaning the file list stays the same). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Clicking 'Up' or 'Back' whilst generating thumbnails does not change location URL https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 239702] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV
Yes, I've got the following on the end of my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy main universe deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy-updates main universe deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy-proposed main universe deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy-security main universe I've re-run apt-get update and tried getting the debug symbols again, no luck. I've got the following evolution components installed: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l | grep evolution ii evolution 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.3 groupware suite with mail client and organizer ii evolution-common 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.3 architecture independent files for Evolution ii evolution-data-server 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 evolution database backend server ii evolution-data-server-common 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 architecture independent files for Evolution Data Server ii evolution-exchange 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 Exchange plugin for the Evolution groupware suite ii evolution-plugins 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.3 standard plugins for Evolution ii evolution-webcal 2.21.92-0ubuntu1 webcal: URL handler for GNOME and Evolution ii libebook1.2-9 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 Client library for evolution address books ii libecal1.2-7 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 Client library for evolution calendars ii libedata-book1.2-2 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 Backend library for evolution address books ii libedata-cal1.2-6 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 Backend library for evolution calendars ii libedataserver1.2-92.22.2-0ubuntu2 Utility library for evolution data servers ii libedataserverui1.2-8 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 GUI utility library for evolution data servers ii libexchange-storage1.2-3 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 Backend library for evolution calendars ii openoffice.org-evolution 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu1 Evolution Addressbook support for OpenOffice.org [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ _If_ I'm reading what apt-cache show evolution-dbgsym says correctly, then it appears it depends on a version of evolution that hasn't been released yet. I've tried specifying the same version of evolution-dbgsym as the evolution version (via sudo apt-get install evolution-dbgsym = 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.3), but that doesn't exist. Evolution runs fine for me, and has done since the upgrade, and as the crash happened during part of the magic of the hardy upgrade, I don't know how to replicate the original problem, so I can't just build a debug version :( One thing that I can't see as being a factor, but I'll mention on the off-chance, is that at the time of the upgrade, my ISP's DNS servers had been playing up, with a high number of timeouts on valid hosts. -- evolution crashed with SIGSEGV https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239702 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
