I realized I started having this issue since I installed the via driver from

I had no problems.

[Bug 238261] Re: gedit crash on save as

2008-06-25 Thread John Cromie
Pedro, I've attached a new backtrace, but to be honest, I'm not sure I
have installed the correct dbgsyms packages. For the record, I installed
gedit-dbgsyms, libglib2.0-0-dbg, libgtk2.0-0-dbg, and
libgnomevfs2-0-dbg. I couldn't find anything named gtk-dbgsym or glib-
dbgsym or similar.

If you need me to go around the buoy again, please tell me _exactly_
what dbgsym packages you mean. This is not my area of expertise.

[Bug 51124] Re: Glitch renaming directory

2008-06-25 Thread Federico Del Bene
If you follow the description, you'll see the bug it's still here in
Ubuntu 8.04 and Nautilus 2.22.3:

1) Create a directory named A
2) Right click on the directory in Nautilus, select Rename and change the name
to B, WITHOUT giving enter or clicking elsewhere
3) Now, with the name still editable, double click the directory to open it
4) The address bar in nautilus will show that the directory is still named A
BUT:
5) If you do a ls command, instead you'll see the directory is now named B
6) If you click the back button in nautilus you'll see the directory as B

This show that at a given time, Nautilus is showing incorrect
information and so I call it a bug.

[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl

2008-06-25 Thread AbinoamJr
I'm using 8.04 amd64 with backports enabled.

openoffice from another user's account --> worked for me!
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -->  worked for me!
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -writer --> didn't work for me!
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin --anything --> opens the writer
directly (don't ask me why :-) )
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/oosplash.bin --> didn't work. same output. So...

And, if I edit the /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice script
uncommenting the following lines...

# test for availability of the fast external splash
# if [ "$sd_binary" = "soffice.bin" -a -x "$sd_prog/oosplash.bin" ] ; then
#sd_binary="oosplash.bin"
# fi

... and type "openoffice" at the terminal, openoffice opens!

But, "openoffice -writer" --> bugs.

[Bug 229999] Re: gedit doesnt automatically syntax highlight .f Fortran files

2008-06-25 Thread John Pye
Reopening this bug. In Ubuntu Hardy, just attempt to open a .f files
using gedit. It should by default be highlighted in the same way as .for
files.

On my system I can see that there is no entry in /etc/mime.types for
fortran source code. There is text/x-csrc for C code, and text/x-c++src
for C++ code and text/x-python for python, so why not for fortran code?

I suspect that the problem lies in the lack of a correct mime type
categorisation for Fortran code, as this is the system which gedit uses
when determining how to syntax-highlight a file.

[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl

2008-06-25 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks osteenbeergen for testing that, although your comments are
ambiguous - does it function better, worse, the same as, or just
differently than before?

Since we're seeing a few issues with traces involving libxcb, I've
prepared a non-xcb-enabled libx11 here:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/libx11/ . (I'm not certain I
reverted all the deps correctly, so let me know if there are dependency-
related issues with this. You probably should save your old libx11 debs
in case the lack of xcb causes problems in other apps.)

Would others mind testing with this noxcb libx11 and see if it makes any
difference?

[Bug 236201] Re: Rhythmbox failed to create output image buffer 60x60

2008-06-25 Thread benmhall
I, too, had this problem on my HP 2133 with a Via Chrome driver. I can
confirm that fiddling with the visualizations did indeed allow me to
play MP3s.

Since I don't like visualizations anyway, I found that just disabling
them with the gconf editor worked. Here's what I changed:

1) Open terminal
2) Run gconf-editor
3) Go to /apps/rhythmbox/plugins/visualizer/
4) Unchecked Active, checked hidden
5) Close gconf-editor

Now Rhythmbox plays MP3s, no errors.

Very odd bug, very odd workaround. Who'd have thought that enabling
visualizations (not even using them) would affect MP3 playback.

[Bug 122213] Re: Installing a gdm theme changes "Selected Only" to "Random from Selected"

2008-06-25 Thread jhansonxi
I just encountered it again in Hardy but I also was having a crash issue
with gdm. I ran gdm-setup the first time out of XFCE and gdm segfaulted
dropping me back to a VT. I restarted gdm and tried again. After
selecting Happy Gnome with Browser and logging out, gdm died again and
didn't restart. I launched gdm again and got a different login screen
("Happy Gnome" I think). After loading up XFCE again and checking gdm-
setup, it had switched to "Random from Selected". After setting it back
to "Selected Only" and HG w/B, it retained the setting upon the next
login. I didn't have any additional gdm crashes after that even though
I tried to reproduce them.

[Bug 242873] Re: Evolution won't start after upgrade to Hardy (8.04)

2008-06-25 Thread Jon Warbrick
Hm, comparison of strace output on the working and failing systems shows
the failing one accessing /usr/local/lib/libsqlite3.so.0 shortly before
everything goes wrong. At the same point the working system accesses
/usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0. Moving the /usr/local/ SQLite libraries out of
the way seems to fix the problem.

I don't know where the SQLite libraries in /usr/local/ came from, but
they must have been from a manual installation of something at some time
in the past, and I'm guessing they were in some way incompatible with
Evolution and were knocking it into a spin.

So, use error and not an Ubuntu bug. Apologies for wasting anyone's
time.

Ok, rant done!! (sorry, bad mood today!!)

The subtitles still look like crap. Not only the subs,
but every sharp graphics ou drawings.

It's easy to test.
Just turn on ANY subs ou close-caption.
They become like... low resolution... or something,
with the borders all jagged. They are not smooth,
and a terrible experience.

Change the default totem (xine in my case) deinterlace
method to linearblend and it all gets ok!

[Bug 243021] Re: rhythmbox doubles the songs in the playlist

2008-06-25 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 237649] Re: [nautilus] Invisible text when renaming files on a dark theme

2008-06-25 Thread kbit
The theme:
Clearlooks! (As you can read in comment 4) Quote: "It's the same if I use
Clearlooks as in /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/."

Previously - at the time of reporting -, I was using UbuntuClearlooks,
but comment 3 I found out that this was no official theme. So this bug
rather be about Clearlooks.

How to trigger:
0) Make sure you are using nautilus, Clearlooks and a dark theme with dark and
light colors as depicted in the attachement.
1) In nautilus, switch to icon view (if that's how the non-list-view is called
in English).
2) Select a file
3) Open the context menu and chose "Rename"

In other words:
It happens every time you rename any file with nautilus using Clearlooks with
dark theme colors except for in nautilus' list view.

Expected:
The selected part of the file name (before the last dot) is either white or
black (or any other color chosen in the appearance settings) with a colored
background.
The non selected part of the file name is expected to be black (as defined in
the settings), since the nautilus window has a white background.

Actual result:
Since nautilus "seems to think" that its background (window content) is dark
(like the rest of the 3d-elements like toolbar, buttons etc.), it choses white
as text color for all text. Therefore, only selected text is visible.

[Bug 230098] Re: Media in 'Places' side bar should have same context menu as in 'Computer'

2008-06-25 Thread kbit
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 19598 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/19598

The other bug is only regarding the side bar tree view, while this bug
is about the places side bar places view.

Those are not the same context menus!

Therefore, I don't regard this a duplicate of Bug #19598.

To see what I mean, open a nautilus window, chose the places view to be shown
in the sidebar and right-click one of your devices in the sidebar.
Then, chose the tree view in the side bar and repeat the above. You will see
two totally different context menus. Once #19598 is fixed, #230098 still is not.
