indicated lines in /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice

Now, the following (in terminal) work:

ooffice --impress

The followng does not work:
ooffice -writer

[Bug 243250] [NEW] nautilus and evince should not accesses smb mounts at startup

I have a samba share automounted with autofs at /mnt/smb/mynas (which as
the name suggests is a NAS box). Nautilus as well as evince seem to be

[Bug 242618] Re: Nautilus and other gnome apps using incorrect umask for new directories

2008-06-26 Thread 3point2
My usage scenario: A server contains a directory owned by group
'collab', which is group writeable and has the setgid bit set. This
means that all new directories created underneath it will also be owned
by group 'collab'. The server is set up with accounts for users whose
desktop systems automatically mount this directory using sshfs so that
it appears on their local desktop. The idea is that everyone who is in
the 'collab' group on the server should be able to add and delete files
and directories from this folder. The umask on each user's desktop
system must be set to create all new files and directories group-
writeable, which this bug prevents from happening correctly. As a
result, a new directory created by a user using Hardy isn't writeable by
the other members of the 'collab' group until the group permission is
manually corrected. Please let me know if anything here doesn't make
sense. I think it's a fairly sensible usage scenario.

I have the no application issue also. sometimes it will work, sometimes
not. Sometimes it will display the error and then still work for a

I am new to Ubuntu so I have not intentionally installed any firewalls.
However, I do not know if any come with the default install.

I don't ever have trouble listing the shared folders on a server. It is
not until I drill into one of those folders that the problem arises.

[Bug 243229] Re: Video plays really slow

2008-06-26 Thread Mike Rooney
I don't know if it is the same issue, but I have noticed recently
(within the last month or two) that my totem plays videos (isn't FLV
specific) at seconds per frame instead of frames per second. Using VLC
works perfectly fine, and it doesn't matter whether I am using compiz or
metacity.

Jaymon, does it ONLY happen with FLVs for you? Do all other types play
perfectly fine in totem?

[Bug 241904] Re: single quote prevents synaptic to run

2008-06-26 Thread Angelo P. Castellani
Hi all and thanks for the interest.

The current italian translation is correct, the problem is present in
the program (as you can see by the attached patch).

Removing the apostrophe in the italian translation isn't a solution to
the problem, but only a quick workaround. I don't even know if
apostrophe is present in other translations.

I hope this bug could be properly addressed in the program.

[Bug 241904] [NEW] single quote prevents synaptic to run

2008-06-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: language-selector

A single quote present in the italian translation prevents
GtkLanguageSelector to run synaptic.

The single quote is present in the string got by gettext as the finish-
str of synaptic.

This bug makes the program abort the commit, *no changes at all* are
done to the system.

I attach a quick and dirty patch to the problem, it isn't for sure a
good solution.

The same problem could be present in other locations, by a quick look I
haven't spot it however.

[Bug 243222] Re: Evince crashes with Segfault when opening the same PDF repeatedly

2008-06-26 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 243222] [NEW] Evince crashes with Segfault when opening the same PDF repeatedly

2008-06-26 Thread Joerg
Public bug reported:

Evince crashes when opening the same pdf file repeatedly and thereby
refreshing the view on this file.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get a PDF file. For example
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdfs/pdfaccess.pdf works.
2. Open a terminal
3. Type in:
$ evince pdfaccess.pdf &

4. Watch evince start and load the PDF-file. Switch focus back to the
terminal and go back to Step 3 and repeat.

When doing Step 3 like 25 times, evince eventually crashes with
"Segmentation fault".

Curiously, on my system for this PDF, exactly 25 repetitions are needed.
For different PDF files, e.g. only 7 repetitions are needed, but for each file
the number of repetitions needed stays constant.

This is Ubuntu Hardy with Evince 2.22.2

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
 We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 243122] Re: GStreamer encontrou um erro na biblioteca de suporte geral

2008-06-26 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
 We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 148565] This is taking some time...

2008-06-26 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
This bug has been reported 9 months ago, and the bug itself has been
around much longer. Why isn't this fixed?

As a problem scenario, I might have installed Xara Xpress 4 through the
default wine configuration (~/.wine), and then decided to move this
directory afterwards (because I want to keep the installs clean and
separate). I place all my different wine installs into /local/apps, i.e.
/local/apps/Photoshop, /local/apps/Cæsar3, etc.

The only change I really need to do to make it work, is to update the
launcher in the Gnome menu, but as we all know, this does not work! Only
one of the two files gets updated, as seen below:

(All files relative to ~/.local/share/applications/)

wine-Programmer-Xara-Xara\ Xtreme\ Pro\ 4\ Trial-Xara\ Xtreme\ Pro\ 4\
Trial.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Xara Xtreme Pro 4 Trial
Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/local/apps/XaraXpress/" wine
"C:\\Programfiler\\Xara\\Xara Xtreme Pro 4\\Xtreme.exe"
Type=Application
StartupWMClass=Wine
Path=/local/data/carl-erik/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Programfiler/Xara/Xara Xtreme
Pro 4
Icon=29ab_xtreme.0
Name[nb_NO]=Xara Xtreme Pro 4 Trial
Icon[nb_NO]=29ab_xtreme.0
Terminal=false

wine/Programmer/Xara/Xara\ Xtreme\ Pro\ 4\ Trial/Xara\ Xtreme\ Pro\ 4\
Trial.desktop
---
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Xara Xtreme Pro 4 Trial
Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/local/data/carl-erik/.wine" wine
"C:\\Programfiler\\Xara\\Xara Xtreme Pro 4\\Xtreme.exe"
Type=Application
StartupWMClass=Wine
Path=/local/data/carl-erik/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Programfiler/Xara/Xara Xtreme
Pro 4
Icon=29ab_xtreme.0

As you can see, only the first file gets the WINEPREFIX changed to
/local/apps/XaraXtreme

[Bug 242618] Re: Nautilus and other gnome apps using incorrect umask for new directories

2008-06-26 Thread Valentijn Sessink
I'm a bit confused by your comment; setting importance to "low" seems to imply
that a fix will be in the next Gnome - which means Ubuntu 8.10. Or am I
mistaken here?
This bug is too important for that: network users should be able to rely on the
correct rights for their new directories - you can't have an LTS release that
applies the incorrect rights to new directories for 5 years.

Besides, the fix is trivial (see Gnome bugzilla):
@@ -1974,7 +1981,7 @@
 {
   GLocalFile *local = G_LOCAL_FILE (file);

-  if (g_mkdir (local->filename, 0755) == -1)
+  if (g_mkdir (local->filename, 0777) == -1)
 {
   int errsv = errno;

This should be added to the /debian/patches dir (and I'm not sure how to
get it there - is Debian bug tracking the right place?

[Bug 237649] Re: [nautilus] Invisible text when renaming files on a dark theme

Was there a change in Clearlooks for Intrepid?
Can someone confirm this on Hardy?
Since I only have Clearlooks in /usr/share/themes, not in ~/.themes, I'm sure
this is no custom version.

[Bug 74360] Re: Several compose key combinations don't work

2008-06-26 Thread JM Williams
Not with Firefox, but with other applications such as gedit and
gnome-terminal, there *is* a graphical way to change your input method
temporarily to the X input method. Right-click (if your pointing device is
set for right-handedness :^]) in the text input field, and choose Input
Methods and then X Input Method (or Input Methods and then System to return to
the GNOME input method). With the X input method, if your locale allows it,
you will be able to enter “ (LEFT DOUBLE QUOTATION MARK) by tapping
Compose·<·" (or Compose·"·<), but you won’t be able to enter it by tapping
Ctrl+Shift+U·2·0·1·C·Space. This setting will persevere for this one
application session.

[Bug 241578] Re: cant browse windows shares on local lan [hardy]

2008-06-26 Thread Gareth Williams
I have related problem. On first install of Hardy after its release, networking
was brilliant (kudos to developers) including wireless through USB port.
After recent updates, Places / Network / Windows Network shows MSHOME but
selecting that shows no entries. Bookmarks I had already established still work
fine and browsing to an explicit Samba address (eg smb://lacie2/share/ for one
of the NAS drives) works too.
Thunderbird was sharing its mail folder on the Windows machine but now requires
me to mount that folder before it can see it.
Other comments are  in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5264806&posted=1#post5264806

I use linksys wireless router which runs local DHCP service and is
gateway to cable modem. NAS drives are on fixed IP addresses, Printer,
Ubuntu laptop, windows XP desktop and windows XP laptop are dynamic IP.
