[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl

2008-07-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
I'm marking the libxcb bug won't fix for hardy because a) the only
libxcb fix we can deploy at this point would be to disable libxcb
entirely - with the side effect of disabling compiz for everyone (c.f.
comment #137), and b) a viable workaround exists (c.f. comment #144).
See bug #236676 for details.

Leaving it open for Intrepid, as we expect to see a new libX11/libxcb
with the relevant fixes within a month or so.

2008-07-01 Thread cparg
Hello,

this is really bad because it means the LTS Ubuntu Hardy is not usable
for serious applications.

Is there any summary about this problem? Anything one could pass to the
programmers of broken applications to fix it on the application side ?

(BTW, the subject refers libsdl. My application that fails does not bind
any sdl library...)

Thanks

Chris

please try to reproduce the same with a hardy installation.

I cannot reproduce on a Hardy installation, and moreover I cannot
reproduce it either on the same Gutsy installation from where I reported

create new appointments.

As far as I can tell, this can be closed.

[Bug 244446] [NEW] inactive menu, inactive launchers and applet icons not all displayed

2008-07-01 Thread John Rose
Public bug reported:

After a recent update from the repositories (under Hardy), a restart was
required and done. After that for one user (admin level) but not for
another user (desktop level), the top menus are no longer active (i.e.
mouse clicking has no effect), the launchers are inactive and the
applets (e.g. user switching, volume control, power, glipper) are no
longer visible. However, the application stop applet is still available.
Also, sometimes both the whole of the top bottom panels disappear,
either initially on login or after some time. Fortunately, the update
manager informatory applet icon appears when a software update is
available. After using Ctrl, Shift Backspace, the login screenn
appears but on login the problem is still present. I suspect that it
might have something to do with the glipper applet, as that sometimes
appears after a long delay.

I can confirm this bug. It simply displays Loading... the first time

When you open the PDF the second time, it opens fine.

This only occurs with certain PDF files. This is initially reported by a

will upload as soon as I have broken PDF files available.

[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl

2008-07-01 Thread Alex Demko

Dang, is compiz the only major application that needs both X11 and xcb? Because
if it is, wouldn't it make more sense to link compiz against libX11-xcb.so
and leave libX11.so be the non-xcb, stock/old/stable/working libX11?

I suggest this, as I hope you guys rethink the magnatude of the wontfix
status. Hardy essentially doesn't work out of the box with all Java
applications and countless other closed open, current old
applications. I think this is especially important as Hardy is supposed
to be a LTS/stable release, that one can count on for larger, more long
term deployments (such as one I'm trying to do, but this bug is holding
up).

Thanks for your consideration.

[Bug 244462] [NEW] cannot rename folder to same name but only change case of some or all letters

I tried with a few other combinations, and it was the same -- not
possible to rename to the same name, but changing the case of some of

2008-07-01 Thread karlrt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 32457 ***

please take kurosu serious, this IS NOT A DUPLICATE

for me, it happens under 8.04 amd64, wormux, and compiz enabled. I dont
have screensaver enabled, and the problem starts seconds after i go into
fullscreen, so there cant be any reason for the screensaver to do
anything this early. AND wormux is played with the mouse, so screensaver
should stay idle!

so this is its own bug with compiz. Kurosu showed really good what
happens in the movie, please reopen this bug!

Oops, after testing on a fresh Hardy installation I couldn't reproduce

is very bad.

Should I report a new bug or change the purpose of this bug?

Binary package hint: gnome-screenshot

In Ubuntu 8.04.1
Package: gnome-utils 2.20.0.1-1ubuntu5

Accesibility information is missing for gnome-screenshot application.
This information is necessary for the application to be used with the

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable Accesibility (System - Preferences - Assistive Technologies; and
check Enable assitive technologies). log out and log in again for changes to

I may have found another 'bug'. I've noticed that when when the

brightness and I have to manually adjust the screen brightness back to
100% with the brightness applet. After that dim on and off works fine.
It is just when resuming from the screensaver.

Also, sometimes when resuming from suspend I get the same behavior, but
 not always.

[Bug 211692] Re: F-Spot refused to close, force quit used

2008-07-01 Thread Claudiu Vlad
The bug seems related to some configuration files. I moved all the *

ran perfectly. As I was moving the configuration settings back one by
one, f-spot went back to the old behaviour - not responding when

RE: [Bug 242898] Re: Create Audio CD doesn't crop song list length to fit.

2008-07-01 Thread lal2017
Hi Sebastian,

The feature to burn to disc just seems very clunky and does not offer
any guidance to the user on error, leaving them in limbo to figure it
out. Not very user friendly.

IDEA 1
In the error message at least there should be some sort of guidance, or
at least an indication with regard to the number of tracks (file size or
minutes) that could be burned to an Audio CD, prompting the user to
create a shorter playlist or something.

IDEA 2
Perhaps the user could select multiple tracks from his/her playlist, do
a right mouse click and select 'Burn to Audio CD' where perhaps they are
transferred to Basero for Audio CD Creation. There also needs to be an
indicator in the status bar indicating the total Minutes for any
track(s) selected, so that the user can figure out disc capacity.

IDEA 3
My original idea was for the error message to ask if it is OK to proceed
by cropping the number of tracks to fit to media.

For instance, I have various playlists and tend to order them with the
songs I like most to the top of those various play-lists. Should I want
to burn any playlist at present, I first have to guess how many tracks
will fit, then select those and create a new playlist just for burning
an audio CD.

IDEA 4
Couple Idea 2 with the additional capability to burn the playlist to
disc in MP3 format instead of Audio. So a disc with MP3s could be
created.

My recommendation is at the very least implement IDEA1. IDEA2 would put
Rhythm Box on par with basic functionality provided in most other music
management software and I feel is worth doing.

Hopefully this will improve it and attract others to begin using this
over Apple and other music mgt software.

Warm regards,
Raj

thank you for your bug report, you can easily edit the playlist and try
again, not sure what else do you want. silently modifying the select
would confuse some users for sure and not be a real win. having a space
used indicator would be nice but there is already some other requests
about that. could you specify what else you would like to see changed?

[Bug 243992] Re: [Intrepid] switching to the File Systems tab in GNOME System Monitor causes it to segfault

2008-07-01 Thread Pramod Dematagoda
One more thing, this segmentation fault does not occur when only the
partitions mounted at boot are mounted, if however another
partition/drive is mounted then System Monitor loses it and starts
segfaulting.

So this problem is not related to the File System tab.
