It's just a duplicate of a long-standing, well known bug in nautilus-

version of Nautilus in Intrepid (or as far as I know, any specific

This happened with the version of Nautilus in Intrepid--is this just a

non-development reports?

[Bug 185165] Re: Ubuntu does not open MS Windows internet shortcuts with 'url' extension

2008-07-07 Thread vj
I can confirm this bug - it is a long standing issue over several Ubuntu
releases. It is (in my opinion, as one migrating from windoze) a major
impediment to useability of ubuntu for those people switching operating
systems. It seems really daft that something as simple as clicking on
existing internet shortcuts is not supported.

This should be given fairly high importance given that most migrators
from windoze will inevitably have al least some, perhaps many, shortcuts
they wish to use.

[Bug 244737] Re: Multiple users login crash

2008-07-07 Thread Juan Xavier
Actually I just found out that the problem is not related to the second user
because I locked my session, pressed "Change User" in the locked screen, took
me to GDM and it restarted GDM while killing my session.
I've also noticed that there were two GDM instances running in tty9 and tty10,
at least after that "restart".

I had previously enabled debug on GDM so I'm attaching the syslog.

For comparison with the syslog file, here's the time when auth.log registered
my session closing:

I can confirm this bug.
On a newly formatted ipod, rhythmbox repeatedly crashes when adding music.

I get the same segmentation fault as Mitch Mahan.

Running ubuntu 8.0.4.1 fully updated.

I will try another distribution to see if it is reproducible and then
report back here.

[Bug 246364] Re: seahorse asks twice for gpg key password

2008-07-07 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: enigmail
+ Binary package hint: seahorse

Recently I've installed Hardy. When I'm sending an email with
Thunderbird, Enigmail asks twice for my gpg password, even though I've
typed it correctly. This happens on Enigmail from Ubuntu package, and on
the one downloaded from addons.mozilla.org. Same version of enigmail
worked properly on Gutsy so it might be a Thunderbird bug.

Edit: it's a seahorse issue. I've checked an option to remember the GPG
password and ask before using it and now I get 2 questions about using
  my GPG password.

Edit2: OK, now I get it. It happens when I choose the option to not

[Bug 177745] Re: Login Window Preferences: custom welcome message does not take effect.

2008-07-07 Thread nan0dog
This bug has made it into 8.04.1 as well. Thank you Khugo for your fix.
As you say, the "Welcome Message" tag is not included in the xml file.
This issue is quite important in Corporate/Gov business as local
policies usually dictate that you have a legal disclaimer displayed
before logon. It is not only the Human GDM theme at fault. Many themes
don't seem to have this tag and so ignore any custom message.

[Bug 246427] [NEW] The "quit system window" take a while to come

2008-07-07 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

(Ubuntu 8.04 - nvidia 8600gt - Envy-ng - compiz-fusion)

Since I installed and activated compiz-fusion, the window to quit the session
(in the gnome menu -> System/Quit) come after a long long while. Meanwhile the
gui is freezed and I can do nothing but ctrl-alt-backspace.
I need to say that I installed the last proprietary nvidia driver with Envy-ng
for my 8600gt.

I don't think I'm the only one in that case, I read some discussions
about that on the net.

If I create a new user, he don't get the problem!

Re: [Bug 244631] Re: too many open files

2008-07-07 Thread ebnf
I have a pop, an imap and an exchange mailbox. My understanding is
that exchange is stupid and makes the user scan all the files server
side and locally to see if there is mail so maybe it's scanning across
all mail. Other problematic things that I do are to never delete
email from the server or locally and check mail every 1 minute.

[Bug 246378] Re: limewire is not openning

2008-07-07 Thread Vladimir Osintsev
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2008-07-07 Thread zcat
I'm not sure how different packages identify themselves as being a media
player; perhaps this bug should be filed against the VLC package for not
registering itself somwhere?

I still want an option at the bottom of the list "Run this command" so I can
have some completely different program start, such as k9copy..

And I still want the menu to be duplicated under System > Preferences >
Removable Drives and Media" where it used to be. I still strongly believe
that's the most 'intuitive' place people will look for it. And even if it
wasn't, I also think that it's not a good idea for Ubuntu to make such
confusing changes to the interface just when we're starting to get
'non-geeks' learning to use the OS.

[Bug 246391] [NEW] GUI problem in with system monitor

2008-07-07 Thread Shinjin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

The gnome system monitor's GUI is acting weird. The entire box is
present but only a portion of it is being used, all of the buttons, etc
are squeezed into that portion. It still works properly otherwise except
any actions such as clicking must be done where the item SHOULD be. I.E.
To close the system monitor you must click on the far right on the bar
instead of halfway through where the button is shown.

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron

[Bug 224351] Re: can't see Windows shared drives in Ubuntu 8,04

2008-07-07 Thread noble
I did try with smbclient as suggested and I can see the shares with it
if I put in a password. If I don't enter a password it reports:

Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Anonymous login successful

Then gives me a list of all the machines on the LAN.

Nautilus never asks me for a password when browsing. If I type in a
location, e.g. smb://WindowsBox/SharedDocs, I sometimes get in and
sometimes get a timeout error.

[Bug 231384] Re: Gtk+ applications slow when local (lo) network interface not upped

2008-07-07 Thread Ayan
I followed Andrea's interface cleaning. I just deleted all the contents
of interface, but firefox still won't work. Then I remembered that one
of my friends helped me set up a firewall. The content of that file is:

#!/bin/sh
iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT
iptables -P FORWARD DROP
iptables -P INPUT DROP
iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT

I deleted that file.

Then since now the interfaces are not there I had to put in the
following commands:

sudo ifconfig lo localhost
sudo route add localhost dev lo

I am typing this message using firefox three. I just have to set up the
lo interface. Getting there. However if someone could help me edit the
firewall file, I would appreciate that.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

  Ubuntu 8.04, all updates installed

Several times after I log in, an "Unlock Private Key" dialog pops up.
The dialog says something like "An application is trying to access the
private key 'id_rsa', but it is locked", and asks me to enter my
passphrase. (I'm not sure of the exact wording, because while this
- dialog I can focus other windows but not type into them, and nor am I
- allowed to take a screenshot.)
+ dialog is open I can focus other windows but not type into them, and nor
+ am I allowed to take a screenshot.)

This question is useless, because it doesn't identify the application
that wants to access my key. It should gave the .desktop name of the
application if there is one, or the name of the binary otherwise.

[Bug 246369] [NEW] Too few levels of brightness on laptop LCD

2008-07-07 Thread Mathias Burén
Public bug reported:

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1520 with an LCD monitor with 1440x900. In
Windows XP/Vista, when I press the Fn+Down/Up key, I can change the
brightness of the LCD display in 6 steps from loweset to highest. In
64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 which I'm using, I can only change the brightness in
3 steps. Lowest, mid, high. The graphics card is a GeForce 8600M GT, and
I'm using nvidia's propriety drivers 173.14.05.

So basically I want 6 levels of brightness that I can choose from within
Ubuntu/Gnome, as I can do in Windows XP.

[Bug 121090] Re: Evolution fails to download some gmail emails

2008-07-07 Thread Pawel Pokrywka
I've tried doing backup/restore with partial success.

>From evolution menu: file -> backup settings, then switch to fresh unix
account, start evolution and choose restore from first-run wizard.
Restore process took some time, as my inbox is quite large.

And it worked, I mean I was able to receive new messages. Few mails have
vanished in the restore process as I counted all folders before. However
vanished messages was either junk (mainly) or from mailing lists (just
one or two), so it was acceptable.

Then I tried to do the same on my normal unix account. I deleted
~/.evolution and .gconf/apps/evolution and started evolution. Wizard pop
up, I've choosen restore -- my messages and settings were restored (this
time more junk vanished), but unfortunately the problem didn't disapear
-- I'm still unable to see new received messages.

[Bug 99015] Re: shuffle doesn't work in queue

2008-07-07 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
There are still two usability bugs here, then.
1) The Shuffle and Repeat buttons should not even exist in Queue view if they
can't be used, and they certainly shouldn't be able to be toggled. That is
completely counter-intuitive
2) There should be a way for the user to pick a bunch of songs without the
hassle of grabbing them in order or thinking about the order without having to
make a playlist. Playlists are saved lists. If the user wants a "at this
moment, I am in the mood for..." list that is *not* to be saved, there is no
way to do this.

[Bug 54024] Re: WIN key should be mapped to Applications menu

2008-07-07 Thread Christian Funder Sommerlund
I agree with Duncan (and this bug/wishlist item).

It would be really useful to have Windows buttons assigned to the menu.
It seems to be a common annoyance that it isn't.

Surely the user could always map it to something else Phantom? I can't
see how a default mapping would be worse for the user. The minority that
doesn't like the Windows key mapped to menu (gamers with big fingers,
e.g. ;)) could always go unmap it in the key bindings dialog (unlike
Windows where it is a mess to do).

[Bug 203527] Re: Clicking on clock applet hangs gnome-panel

2008-07-07 Thread Phill Bailey
I have found the same issue, however in my experience removing all
locations (of which I had only one) solved the problem to some extent.
There is still a short lag between clicking the clock and the calendar
appearing, during which time the Window list is also frozen, but the
calendar does appear, which was not the case before. I'm loathe to try
uninstalling Evolution, as the calendar in the panel is useful to have
easily at hand. I'm using Hardy and a fresh install from the 8.04 live
CD did not exhibit this issue, an update appears to have caused it.

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2008-07-07 Thread Reuben Firmin
Sorry, but you're wrong. This is a bug in the UI design.

It's a disk usage analyzer. If I "scan home", baobob should be able to
indicate to me that there are large files in my home directory taking up
space. I'm not asking you to show me the files directly - just make the
UI clearer so that you can see that there is file usage IN home. You
should treat the root of the tree differently from sub-directories,
since otherwise you'll never be able to make it clear that you're
counting it. "100%" is useless and duplicative information - you should
change that to show the actual *contents* of the home directory.

Get a UI designer involved in the project and get his or her advice if
you don't like mine.

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2008-07-07 Thread Fabio Marzocca
As I explained few posts before, this is not a bug.
If you scan your HOME folder, the first entry is always 100% as it is the
"root" of the subsequent tree. All the subfolders to HOME refers in percentage
how much space they use vs. the HOME 100%. That's normal. If you want to see
how much space is using HOME folder vs. the total filesystem, run a full File
System Scan.

Further, Baobab show only usage of folders, not of files (there is Nautilus for
this).
i.e.: if you have just one folder in HOME directory, which is using 20% of
space, ther remaining 80% of space is in home/reubenf folder.

[Bug 121090] Re: Evolution fails to download some gmail emails

2008-07-07 Thread Pawel Pokrywka
Downgrading to 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.2 didn't fix the problem.
Funny that comparing my local and remote inbox I can see that the last email in
local inbox is from June 26 2008, just about 1 hour after upgrading evolution
to 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 (from synaptic history).

[Bug 121090] Re: Evolution fails to download some gmail emails

2008-07-07 Thread Pawel Pokrywka
Hi,

Very similiar problem as mine.

The interesting part (in my case) is that evolution actually downloads the
message, but after that it is not shown in Inbox (it is there -- I can see the
message via web-interface).
I've verified it using tcpdump and sending email with 1.5M attachment from
other account, then trying to fetch it. Tcpdump clearly show that the message
was downloaded.

I suspect that latest evolution update broke it. I will install older
version and see if it works.

I'm using GMail, evolution 2.22.2-0ubuntu2, Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2008-07-07 Thread Reuben Firmin
This is still a problem. The output doesn't show that the files are in
/home/reubenf.

Furthermore, it's gotten worse.

The "usage" percentage next to "reubenf" (if I run "scan home") is
ALWAYS "100%", and ALWAYS the total size of it + subfolders. It should
show how much of the overall usage is actually within the home folder
(i.e. files) as opposed to in subfolders.
