[Bug 247469] [NEW] nautilus takes a while to load up a directory with a lot of images sorted by modification date

2008-07-10 Thread Amr Hassan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

when i try to open my images directory which is a really huge folder
full of images and subdirectories sorted by modification date, it takes
forever for nautilus to finish loading all the files and their
thumbnails. while it's loading them, the already-loaded thumbnails keep
moving around in every direction rendering the whole window useless for
about a minute or so till it all finishes loading..

when i tried to load the same folder in thunar after sorting by
modification date as well, it didn't take any time at all and the folder
loaded up in a second.. the thumbnails were probably all already cached,
but still that didn't stop nautilus from going crazy every time i try to
open the images folder again..

[Bug 173966] Re: java plugin not working in firefox 3 on ubuntu 8.04

2008-07-10 Thread James Stansell
Alfas, the only java plugin available for 64-bit systems is icedtea-
gcjwebplugin. Some applets work, but it's not surprising if the ones
you are interested in don't work.

The only option currently available, as far as I know, is to run a
hybrid 32bit system. I haven't done that myself, but the 64-bit users
forum at ubuntuforums.org would be a good place to start.

3. After that whenever I try to use either apt-get of the Synaptic Package
Manager I am told that the DPKG was interrupted and I need to corect this with
dpkg -- configure -a.

[Bug 243942] Re: Nautilus doesn't update title and address bar when clicking twice on open parent folder button

2008-07-10 Thread DalaiDakkar
Hi, I'm having a similar issue here, whenever I enter a folder with a
lot of pictures if I click to fast on another subfolder before nautilus
ends drawing all the thumbnails, when I'm inside the subfolder the
address bar still shows the address of the folder 1 level up... example:

*I am in /home
*I click /home/pictures
*nautilus starts drawing all the thumbs and scrollbar makes larger and larger
*before nautilus ends this operation I click on a folder named party inside
/home/pictures
*now I'm inside /home/pictures/party but the address bar still showing
/home/pictures

The really bad thing about this situation is that when I use keyboard shortcuts
to go back or parent folder they take me to
/home instead of /home/pictures which is very annoying when fast keyboard
navigating through folders

thanks for help in advance..

[Bug 185729] Re: nautilus is unable to copy folders from samba

2008-07-10 Thread ewmcnee
I have the same file/folder problem with Nautilus in Hardy. Files will
copy from the NAS but folders will not.

I installed the "Dolphin" file manager and it has no problem with the
copy of files or folders, so I think the problem lies in Nautilus and
not Samba.

Perhaps using Dolphin or another file manager will help people until the
bug is fixed.

by the way this is might be very frustrating for user,
which doesn't notice anything, and keeps on double-clicking , thinking ubuntu

by the way, the new file name appears in the aplication tab on "bottom" bar,
but it's not highlighted in anyway.
if you are in the desktop other than the application, then the application tab
appears in the "bottom" bar highlighted.

[Bug 247364] Re: Some emails are not displayed but are saved in the mailbox file

2008-07-10 Thread mstuermer
OK, I did what you said for the ~/.evolution/mail/local directory but
the missing mails didn't appear.

It's extremly strange, I know. Here I can show you exactly what I mean:

I went into my Ubuntu folder within Evolution and took a screenshot of
all the mails concerning this bug report. As you can see in the attached
file only four emails are listed. However, when looking at the Ubuntu
mailbox file and getting out the last 400 lines there are 6 emails -
your first two mails are missing, but not the newest one! (this also
shows that the filters still work correctly - at least in this case)

So you really have to trust me, I'm not fooling around, I'd love to use
my time for more productive work... I use Evolution since the early
Ubuntu days (more than 3 years ago) but have never seen such a thing.

Let's hope you can find this nasty bug - or give me a hint what I did
wrong!

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
mstuermer, I do not doubt you... Let's try another track: try Edit/Show
Hidden messages, and let's hope it is a simple thing.

Otherwise, we will need to start Evo on a trace: stop Evo and then, on a
terminal, 'env CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution --component=mail > evo.log
2>&1', and lets wait until you find yourself with a NEW missing message.
Then, if you want, you can email me the log directly (hggdh2 at gmail

What I expected to happen:

Pretty much any PDF posted on http://unicode.org/charts/ should render
text and/or grids with symbols on every page.

What actually happened:

Pages are mostly blank with only a small fraction of what should be
displayed (Foxit Reader and Acrobat Reader both handle these documents
correctly).

[Bug 247364] Re: Some emails are not displayed but are saved in the mailbox file

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
this is weird... lets try one bypass before we actually look into it:
on a terminal:

0. quit Evolution
1. tar -cvf savedmail.tar ~/.evolution/mail/local
2. cd ~/.evolution/mail/local
3. rm *.ev-summary
4. restart Evolution -- check if *all* emails are now shown

This will tell us if the summaries got corrupted (I do not think *all*
of them would, but, just in case...

[Bug 247417] [NEW] Email addresses can't be added to GMail in Epiphany browser

2008-07-10 Thread Sara
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When I try to add e-mail addresses to gmail in epiphany, upon submission
the e-mail address is not saved. Other contact information, such as the
person's name, does get saved, but I haven't, truth be told,
experimented with the other fields yet. But the being able to enter the
e-mail address is crucial. It does, by the way, work in firefox (in
Ubuntu).

I installed epiphany via Synaptic and I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Heron,

[Bug 247364] Re: Some emails are not displayed but are saved in the mailbox file

2008-07-10 Thread mstuermer
1. I only use POP, but from 3 different providers including GMAIL. When looking
at the around 10 out of 50 emails which were not displayed by Evolution but are
shown by Thunderbird (both use mailbox files), the 10 'missing' mails are from
all different providers. Therefore I don't see a pattern in this respect.
2. stuermer.ch; ethz.ch; gmail.com
3. Yes I use many filters, but the 10 missing mails should not have been
catched. Also when searching for their titles in all accounts there are no
results. So the emails are really no visible in Evolution.
4. No
5. After a lot of hassle with Synaptic I managed to reinstall 2.22.2.
Unfortunately I still have this behaviour, I don't see the 'missing' mails with
Evolution but I see them in Thunderbird (even after deleting the index files in
the .evolution folder)

One more thing I can provide: The earliest 'missing' email was received
on 2008-07-08 17:51 CET. If you wish I can send you the 'missing' mails
in a private message so you can analyze the headers. I don't see a
pattern, but I'm not very familiar with email headers.

Thanks for your help!

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.

Do you have the 'tnef-attachment' plugin enabled (Edit/Plugins)?

If you do not see it, then you need to install the evolution-plugins-
experimental' package. You can do it, for example, by opening a terminal
and:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install evolution-plugins-experimental

After installing the package, close & restart Evolution, then go back
into Edit/Plugins, and make sure tnef-attachment is enabled. You then
should be able to decipher the infamous winmail.dat.

Reason: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

Error playing CD.

Reason: Internal data flow error.

The dvc/cd worked fine in 64 Studio (and was used to install 64 studio),
I can rip tracks to ogg or any other supported codec using sound juicer.

[Bug 247391] [NEW] Totem could hide the time bar when streaming internet radio

2008-07-10 Thread Thomas Perl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

This is just a wishlist item: Totem could hide the "Time:" progressbar
when streaming media from the internet (like internet radio) where the
duration is unknown. Alternatively, the space could be used for
something like a buffer fill display (how much % of the buffer is filled
currently. This would forecast a buffer underrun visually.

[Bug 247067] Re: Evolution fails to launch

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
Hello Frank,

The console output and the .xsession-errors both point to a critical
error on memory management, which seem to cause Evolution to die.

Unfortunately, we do not have a nice backtrace to follow this up... so I
would like to check some other things with you:

(1) Could you please enable apport (automatic trace collector)? To do so,
please open a terminal, and edit '/etc/default/apport', and change 'enabled=0'
to 'enabled=1'. You can use 'sudo gedit /etc/default/apport', for example.
(2) after enabling apport, please reproduce your issue. At he end you should
have apport kicking in on a pop-up; open a new bug, and refer to this one (we
will then close this one, and follow up on the new bug).

Also, please be aware that we will be releasing Evolution 2.22.3.1 in a
few (and it might already be available on the Hardy-proposed
repositories), and it might be worth it to check if you still experience
this issue on 2.22.3.1.

Thank you.

Yes, I must admit this is supremely annoying, not only because it causes
such a delay in which you can't use nautilus, but because it also
destroys your drag state and have to do it over, being careful to not

[Bug 247364] Re: Some emails are not displayed but are saved in the mailbox file

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively" [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. What email providers you use?
2. specifically, with which email providers do you have this issue?
3. Do you have filters on? Any filtering the inbox?
4. Do you have a search active on the inbox (look at the search field above the
email headers)?

5. Finally -- and perhaps quite important --: if you reinstall 2.22.2,
do you still see this behaviour?

Please keep in mind that Hardy-proposed is still a test environment --
we believe the package is sane, but still wish for more people to test
it. You might indeed have found a bad bug.

Thank you.

[Bug 246085] Re: Wishlist: dialer/logger

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. Upstream
has http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255854, opened for quite a
while, asking for a similar thing. I am setting this bug as a wishlist
for Evolution, but we would appreciate if you could reinforce the
upstream bug with your input and comments (in order to take it out of
the backburner, so to speak).

Again, thank you.

[Bug 247377] [NEW] Regression: pitch wavers like an old record player when playing music

2008-07-10 Thread Alexander Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Since upgrading to Intrepid, when listening to music, I notice sometimes
that the music will change pitch for a few seconds temporarily, just a
very subtle amount, and then resume normal playback.

I noticed that it happened once when my system was under load and the
music dropped out for a fraction of a second, leading me to believe that
one of: (the Rhythmbox gapless playback engine, GStreamer, PulseAudio,
ALSA, my hardware) is compensating for discrepancies in timestamps by
dynamically resampling the audio, i.e. speeding it up when it's lagging,
or slowing it down when it's leading.

This is very unnerving.

I am unsure if it affects anything other than Rhythmbox.

I have tried to force the situation by, e.g., interrupting the Rhythmbox
process temporarily with gdb and then resuming it, but it doesn't seem
to do anything.

[Bug 247250] Re: starting evolution brings up gnome-keyring

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 236264 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236264

Thank you. This is, then, a duplicate of bug 236264, and I will set it
as such. Your workaround is correct, and the only way to bypass having
the g-kr asking for a password. Please look at that bug for more
details.

Having the keyring wide open is -- right now -- a consequence of having
auto-login enabled. Indeed this is not a good thing, but so is auto-
login...

[Bug 247367] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon uses a large amount of memory

2008-07-10 Thread ebnf
Public bug reported:

  Version table:

What I expected to happen:

gnome-keyring-daemon uses a reasonable amount of memory and responds in
a reasonable amount of time when applications try to use the services

What happened instead:

the keyring uses 703mb of memory as seen in top:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

Evolution prints the following many times to the console when this
occurs, occasionally it seems to block (UI included) until I hit
Control+C to cancel the attempt to read from the keyring and it tries
again to success.

not displayed in Evolution. When I realized there were missing emails I
looked into the mailbox file of my Inbox ("tail -n 1000

but not displayed! That's really very bad and made me switch to

Yes, I use auto-login.

As a workaround, I have disabled the keyring password.

I also noticed that my evolution passwords are stored in clear text in
login.keyring. This is not a good thing!

[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] "Offline Mode" feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2008-07-10 Thread Thom Pischke
A firefox fix will be nice (using Kristian's extension now), but what
about pidgin and the other apps consulting network manager?

I don't much care HOW this gets fixed, but I hope to see a no-user-
action-required fix come through soon, for all apps. I just wasted 2
hours trying to figure out why I had a nice modem connection through
gnome-ppp but no internet in my apps before I finally stumbled onto this
issue.

Definitely an embarassing bug for an LTS release.

[Bug 209243] Re: opens two instances of the same file when using some themes

2008-07-10 Thread Glassbox
Yeah, similarly new install of hardy, currently running xfce, and gedit
does it's stuff in a new window. Is there a setting that normally
switches between only tabs mode and window mode, or is tab mode just
supposed to be the default and you have to individually specify to get
it in a new window?

'cause perhaps messing with such a setting would allow those of us with
this issue to deal with it until the default behavior gets consistent
again.

[Bug 246038] Re: evolution 2.22.2 expunges deleted messages when leaving folder

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.

I am guessing you meant IMAP instead of MAPI, am I correct? If so, then
this is expected: when you are deleting an IMAP mail, the delete command
is sent to GMAIL, and it is GMAIL that deletes it. Immediately.
Evolution has no control over it. I would expect, though, that the
deleted email would still be available on GMAIL's deleted folder.

[Bug 246791] [NEW] when unplugging the sleep after x minutes on battery is activated inappropriately

2008-07-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In the Power Manager I have "Battery Powered: When the system is idle
for more than 15 minutes: Sleep" setting set. And when it's mains
powered do nothing.

So when the computer has been idle on battery for more than fifteen
minutes I come along and unplug it to take it away to use in the living
room for example, and so it now thinks it's on battery power and has
been idle for more than fifteen minutes, so it goes to sleep.

So the problem being simply that if I'm unplugging it I'm there and
probably going to use it so it's inappropriate to sleep. So I'm thinking
the timer for the idle time on battery needs to start when the computer
starts being on battery, and not before, so that it doesn't have this
odd behavior.

So it's just a small issue.

Cheers.

2008-07-10 Thread John Vivirito
Sorry i did some more tests and the first line of the file that fails is:
*** title of file ***

if i throw a # infront it does open it.
In Hardy this file opened in text editor all the time for me but Intrepid it
stopped.
I feel it should be the same.

[Bug 247301] [NEW] [Intrepid] Naultis tried to opena text document (with no .extension) and fails

2008-07-10 Thread John Vivirito
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to opne a text Document without a .txt or any .bleh it tries to
open it and fails with
Malformed patch header. No orig name
'\n'

the file i am trying to open is named ~/Documents/saved_files/Commands
this happens with all like named files. html files open in browser like they
should and odt open in OO.o
The text files should open in default text editor including files that first
line is # since in bash its a comment as well as other scripts. It asks to
display or run and i click disply and thats when i get the error

[Bug 236264] Re: Automatic login -- password is still asked to access Gnome keyring (Evolution, and others, affected)

2008-07-10 Thread hggdh
** Summary changed:

- Evolution asks my pasword to unlock the default keyring since last update
+ Automatic login -- password is still asked to access Gnome keyring
(Evolution, and others, affected)

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

  Hello
- I use automatic connection option on gdm.
+ I use automatic login option on gdm.
This is usefull as the computer is used by an association, so the user's
don't have to type any password, and I don't have to switch to another user to
make administrative tasks (I'm the only one to know the password).
But since the most recent update of evolution, this program asks a password
to unlock the default keyring.
This password is also the administrator password (I know I can change this
default keyring password, but I don't want to do so).
Is there a solution to come back to the former situation ?

- ProblemType: Bug
- Architecture: i386
- Date: Sat May 31 12:22:34 2008
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04
- ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/evolution
- Package: evolution 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu3
- PackageArchitecture: i386
- ProcEnviron:
- PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
- LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
- SHELL=/bin/bash
- SourcePackage: evolution
- Uname: Linux 2.6.24-17-generic i686
+ WORKAROUND
+
+ * Go to System/Preferences/Encryption and Keyrings;
+ * select the "Password Keyrings" tab;
+ * select the "default" entry, and click on "Change Unlock Password";
+ * type in your current password on the "Old Password" field and LEAVE the
"Password"  and "confirm Password" fields BLANK;
+ * click on OK.
+
+ You now should be able to auto-login and no password request will be
+ show for the keyring.
+
+ NEXT STEP
+
+ This is not an Evolution bug. Evolution now uses the Gnome-keyring to
+ store email account passwords, and it is the Gnome-keyring that is
+ asking for a password. A case might be made for having the Gnome-Keyring
+ automatically unlocked on auto-login. If you wish to pursue this route
+ please open a bug for it (package: gdm).

[Bug 224118] Re: SSH key files not used. Need to enter password twice

2008-07-10 Thread Brad Whittington
More generally gvfs-ssh/sftp does not look at, or obey, any of the other
settings in .ssh, for e.g. I use a custom config file in my .ssh folder
so that connecting to certain hosts it will use specific ports and/or
usernames, gvfs ignores these settings completely, and so I have to
manually enter them when connecting to a known host (along with a
password). It should obey/read the rules from .ssh/config, and it should
use the keys in .ssh, and, even more relevant, talk to the ssh agent.

[Bug 247267] [NEW] brasero attempts to play .avi video in CD project, when single clicked

2008-07-10 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Using Ubuntu 8.04, Linux Kernel 2.6.24-19-generic, Brasero 0.7.1.

When creating a Data CD/DVD with video files on it, clicking on video
files once will make brasero open a black window, sometimes will play
the video.

I would expect this to be an option (i.e. View > Preview "F11") and not
the default when clicking on a file.

See screenshot.
