I can't reproduce it anymore. It has probably been fixed in openoffice last

That's nice.

Thank you.

[Bug 249798] [NEW] [Wishlist] Gnome Panel Clock Appplet does not display seconds by default

2008-07-18 Thread Conrad Knauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The Gnome Panel Clock Appplet's default is just to display hours and
minutes, e.g. as Windows XP does. I believe that the reason it was done
that way in Windows was to hide the fact that it occasionally skips
seconds as programs saturate the system resources; after enabling
seconds with a 3rd-party product you could watch to see if the system
was misbehaving (as usual ;) or if it was a full lock-up. In Ubuntu
however I've not had the skipping problem (and on the rare occasion that
something goes very wrong and the system becomes unresponsive, its a
good diagnostic).

So, as a wishlist item, please set the default to show the seconds.

[Bug 249613] Re: rhythmbox crashes when music collection on smb share

2008-07-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

2008-07-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

On Tue, 2008-07-15 at 13:26 +, Tormod Volden wrote:
Does it work if you just open one image with Gthumb (not select several

Yes, it works. Resizing single image is done without a problem.
I tried several ways to do the same job and this is what I noticed:

1. If I open Gthumb from the menu, browse to a local folder, select
several images and try to resize I get error:
The folder contents could not be displayed
Gthumb can't figure out the folder from which the images were opened and
defaults to home folder.

2. If I start from console with same user, the resizing is done and
images are written in the correct folder.

3. If I Browse with file browser (which I prefer because Gthumb has no
tree-like file browser), select images from local folder and choose
open with gthumb, Gthumb opens in catalog mode and when trying to
resize, the home folder is selected as destination instead the folder
from which I opened the pictures.(If I change catalog mode and back to
folder mode the correct destination folder is selected, but then all
pictures are displayed instead the selected ones and I must make the
selection again)

4. If I browse with file browser and open shared network folder, select
several images and try to resize them, they are copied in the home
folder by default. If I change catalog mode and back to folder mode, the
correct destination folder is selected, but when resizing images are
lost.

5. If I browse with gthumb and I try to open network shared folder, The
images are not selectable and can't be opened at all.

[Bug 235698] Re: gvfs-fuse-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()

2008-07-18 Thread Sense Hofstede
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543552 contains the same patch as bug
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536614
Doesn't the rule is that a bug is a duplicate when it has the same cause? This
is the case here.

Anyway, there are other bugs at Launchpad that are linked to in gnome
bug 536614 , so it's possible that there are also more duplicates here.
Someone who knows in detail the stories behind these bugs probably
should have a look at it. Austin, you seem to have written the patch,
what are your reasons for filing a second bug at GNOME Bugzilla?

2008-07-18 Thread Austin Lund
My patch addresses a completely different issue to the bug that was

The bug I was fixing has nothing to do with
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536614. In particular, the
problem itemized in this bug is very different to that bug.

My patch can _only_ fix bugs when the dbus connection is severed. This
is not he case with http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536614.

[Bug 248334] Re: scaling images with overwriting original in shared folder deletes the image completely without warning

2008-07-18 Thread Tormod Volden
I got confused by you talking about resize but maybe you mean Scale
Images... under the Tools menu. Trying to reproduce your case (1):

First make a test case collection:
 mkdir /tmp/test cd /tmp/test
 cp /usr/share/gthumb/albumthemes/Classic/*.png .
Then start gThumb from Applications menu, navigate to /tmp/test in Folders view.
Select the two first images, then Tools - Scale Images...

Now Saving Destination looks fine. Select image type PNG, Overwrite
mode, and Remove Originals, and click Scale.

Seems like both images are scaled, but not exactly to the dimensions I
asked for.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-07-18 Thread randallw
I have recently encountered this problem too after having no problems
burning lots of disks. For me at least, I found the problem to be that
nautilus-cd-burner doesn't deal with burning a single large (4GB) file
properly. k3b burns it just fine and they are both using the same tool
(growisofs/genisoimage) under the gui, so this is a nautilus bug (at
least for me).

The bug seems pretty clear: for files 4GB, an extra flag needs to be
sent to growisofs: -allow-limited-size

The file I burned is a single file of size: 4356325380 bytes

n-d-b with debugging on:
launching command: growisofs -dvd-compat -graft-points -path-list
/tmp/iso-rwayth.PBVEEU -Z /dev/scd0 -input-charset utf8 -r -J -V Empire
growisofs stdout: Executing 'genisoimage -graft-points -path-list
/tmp/iso-rwayth.PBVEEU -input-charset utf8 -r -J -V Empire | builtin_dd
of=/dev/scd0 obs=32k seek=0'
growisofs stderr: File /home/rwayth/temp2/Empire.mpg is larger than 4GiB-1.
growisofs stderr: -allow-limited-size was not specified. There is no way do
represent this file size. Aborting.
process stdout: HUP
growisofs stderr: :-( write failed: Input/output error
process stderr: HUP

k3b debugging output (chopped for size):
mkisofs calculate size command:
---

[Bug 249852] Re: search-as-you-type doesn't always work

2008-07-18 Thread old_toby
ok, I found out something.

Bug is in Hardy Heron with all updates.

How to reproduce:

1. open nautilus (just after the system started or after you haven't used it
for some time, maybe half an hour)
2. type some letters

Expected behaviour:
The typed letters should show up at the bottom right of the nautilus window,
and the first folder/file that starts with the typed letters should be
highlighted.

Actual behaviour:
nothing happens

I just found out that it works if you klick in the address bar and press
enter. It also works then the following times you open nautilus. But if
you don't use nautilus for some time, it stops working again.

[Bug 213882] Re: gnome-screensaver-command -p does not unblank screen turned off by Power Management

2008-07-18 Thread kbit
I have the same problem, trying to help someone auto-unblank the screen
after a download manager finished its work and possible other uses.

Either -p or -d should get the screen out of its sleep mode. None of them do.
Actually I don't understand the difference between -d and -p.

[Bug 249859] Re: [intrepid] evolution doesn't remeber size of area

2008-07-18 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 249865] [NEW] Firefox 3.0 Totem Web Browser Plugin 2.22.1 does not play audio wav-files completely.

2008-07-18 Thread Elktro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

After installing Totem web Browser Plugin in order to play pronunciation
samples at merriam-webster web dictionary I noticed that the audio files
are not played completely to the end, but it misses few hundreds of
milliseconds at the end. I'm not sure if this happens with short files
only.

To reproduce the problem open the following link:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/cgi-bin/audio.pl?crysta02.wav=crystalline

Only [crystal]-part of the word can be heard and not the whole word
[crystalline]. I am also able to reproduce the problem virtually with
every pronunciation sample on the m-w site.

[Bug 249873] [NEW] podcasts containing non-audio files handled badly

2008-07-18 Thread James Lewis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Several of the RSS podcast feeds I listen to, periodically include a
video, or pdf file rather than an MP3... Rhythmbox downloads the file,
and then says that it failed, I like the fact that it downloads the
file, becuase I can see it and watch, or read as required, infact when I
sync to my portable player, it can handle both PDF, and video files, so
the behaviour is actually good.

The problem I see is that these files are shown to have failed to
download, and cannot be played from within rhythmbox It would be
very useful if rhythmbox could show the files having been downloaded,
and possibly show that they are non-audio ideally, attempting to
play them would spawn an external player, but simply indicating that the
file was infact downloaded, but cannot be played would be a great
improvement over simply saying Failed, because retrying will cause the
file to be downloaded again, creating a duplicate.

This is on 8.04 with rhythmbox 0.11.5

[Bug 249865] Re: Firefox 3.0 Totem Web Browser Plugin 2.22.1 does not play audio wav-files completely.

2008-07-18 Thread Elktro
If the file is downloaded and played in totem afterwards the problem
does not occur.

I noticed that some Merriam-Webster web dictionary pronunciation samples
might be played to the very end, thought. For instance:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/coincide

But it can be also that there is silence at the end of the file.

I have not tested other plugins (yet?).

This is the output of firefox from clicking the pronunciation sample
link to closure of the playback window:

[Bug 4472] Re: Junk mail not being identified by spamassassin plugin (daemon is disabled)

2008-07-18 Thread Ken Pratt
I am using Hardy Heron (64 bit) and the bogofilter plugin. The plugin
is enabled and the binaries are installed. Despite this, Evolution
never tags incoming mail on its own. I run an IMAP server that provides
header tagging of all incoming email. It almost unerringly places the
correct spam indication in the header of the email. I adjusted
Evolution to trust those headers - and it still does not move incoming
spam to the Junk folder.

Normally, I use procmail to sort tagged messages into suspected and
known spam folders. These removes any need to perform these tests using
the client. I commented these rules out in order to test Evolutions
ability and find that it does not work.

First make a test case collection:

Then start gThumb from Applications menu, navigate to /tmp/test in Folders

Select the two first images, then Tools - Scale Images...

Now Saving Destination looks fine. Select image type PNG, Overwrite

Seems like both images are scaled, but not exactly to the dimensions I
 asked for.

Yes, you are right, i meant scale (don't know why there are two commands
for the same job).
I found that error from first case occurs if in
edit-preferences-general-on startup
do not change folder is selected.
In the main menu the launcher is gthumb %U (first case) and that is
the difference with the command I entered in the console - only
gtumb (second case).

[Bug 249910] [NEW] Perl: escaped characters not recognized after non-plain variables in double-quoted strings and regexes

2008-07-18 Thread Taylor Venable
Public bug reported:

Problem Description:
Using Perl syntax highlighting, escaped characters like \ and \n are not
recognized after using a non-special variable in a double-quoted string. An
example: $foo = \$1\; this would put the first capture in a regex between
double-quotes. In this example, the first \ is recognized as escaped, but the
second is not, thus the double-quote mark after the backslash is treated as the
end of the string, and gtksourceview renders the rest of the document as an
unterminated string, which is incorrect. The same issue occurs in regular
expressions where variables are interpolated.

Possible Reason:
It perhaps arises from the difference between a plain-variable and a
special-variable in the perl.lang specification file, probably in the
in-pattern context near line 177 of
/usr/share/gtksourceview-2.0/language-specs/perl.lang

Versions:
Ubuntu 8.04.1
gtksourceview 2.2.1-1
gedit 2.22.3-0ubuntu1
