[Bug 250433] [NEW] Clarify Save a copy grayed out
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Would it be possible for evince to somehow explain _why_ it cannot print or save a document, instead of just graying out the Save a copy menu item? I know I can just right-click a PDF link and Save as..., it's just confusing when I don't get to know why I can't save the document... This could maybe be done with a pop-up [dialog], a tooltip, changed title bar text, some info showing up in the Properties window, an information bar... ? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109429 says: Could it be due to the access/copy rights on specific pdf files you're viewing? you can override these restrictions by setting /apps/evince/override_restrictions with gconf-editor. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Clarify Save a copy grayed out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250433 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 250475] [NEW] gnome-display-properties allows turning all screens off
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center The tool gnome-display-properties allows one to turn all screens off. That's dangerous, because one (at least average user) has no possibility to interact with the machine anymore. I think it should at least pop up a dialogue asking the user whether he really wants to turn all screens off. [Bug 223812] Please! - Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets
First thing, the mere length of this discussion for such a simple (and well described!) issue is dismaying. What's going on here? I guess it is just too easy to add an opinion... Now, how come powernowd init script tries to run ondemand INSTEAD of powernowd? THIS IS THE ISSUE. I don't really want powernowd, I DON'T moinstall it in the first place... Excuse the capitals, but I thought this discussion needs some clarity. We just need to fix powernowd init script by removing every reference to ondemand, actually to every other scaling governor which powernowd does NOT use. Let some ondemand lover go and write an ondemand package, instead of messing this one. In other words, we want an init script that does this: 1.- Load userspace governor if necessary, as it is the one REQUIRED by powernowd (just read the README). 2.- Run powernowd daemon. It can't be as complicated as the current script appears. I mean the current two-script system... Who was the genious around? Now this is the script as I think it should be: simple and direct. And working! Regards, gatopeich.- ** Attachment added: /etc/init.d/powernowd as it should be http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16210339/powernowd -- [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 250471] Re: system log viewer closes when selecting other log
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share Unable to mount location
I can confirm this bug. I am on a university network, and I can say this error pops up randomly (ie. meaning that some shares will mount, while others will not). First it gives an error Unable to mount location, while still showing in the nautilus mounts list, with an empty directory list. Trying to mount again give the obvious Mountpoint Already registered error, which is ok. [Bug 250489] [NEW] Evolution won't repaint when being restored from bottom edge panel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I minimize Evolution, and go away for a while (20 minutes - 2 hours). When I try to restore Evolution from the bottom edge panel, a very crude approximation of the Evolution screen comes up, but with no content. In fact, the area where the messages would be listed, and the area where the preview would display, are completely transparent; I can see the desktop in those areas. If I was composing a message when I minimized Evolution, and try to restore the message from the bottom edge panel, a similar thing happens. I get a crude approximation of the compose message window. In all cases, I click on the X in the upper-right corner, and get a dialog box, Evolution is not responding and I click the Force Quit button. That kills it. When I relaunch Evolution, I get a dialog box with a message like, Evolution was not properly shut down. Do you want to restore what you were doing?. I click Restore and it comes back fine. I just have to click View - Show Preview. This has been happening for about 10 days, and happens about 20% of the time. [Bug 250507] [NEW] Inserted removable media is sometimes mounted by the wrong user
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs Using Ubuntu 8.04 with multiple users logged on using fast user switching, I often find that if I insert a DVD or CD-ROM, it gets mounted by one of the other logged in users, and I am then unable to unmount the media. This obviously has a significant impact on usability, particularly when (for example) searching through a set of backup disks. Steps to reproduce: 1. Log in as userA 2. Using fast user switching, log in as userB, leaving userA logged in, 3. Insert a DVD or CD-ROM in the drive and wait for it to automount. 4. Right-click on the desktop icon for the disk and select Unmount Around 50% of the time, the system will respond that it is not possible to unmount the disk because it is mounted by userA. This seems to suggest that there is a race condition where all logged in users attempt to deal with the insertion of the media. I'd guess this is related to bug number 22643, though the impact being seen is more serious. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Inserted removable media is sometimes mounted by the wrong user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250507 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

** Description changed: I went to Trash (Trash:///), clicked empty. I had at least around 5GBs in there. I confirmed delete, and the operation dialog came up, and said Preparing. It stayed like this for over a minute. My system slowed to a near freeze. I was able to click Cancel. It took about another minute to respond to the click, but eventually canceled. Everything in the trash was gone. I closed it, and opened it back up. Trash:/// is now so slow it's unusable (almost appears frozen), difficult to close, doesn't allow me to open any other nautilus windows, and it won't show deleted files. I looked in /home/myname/.local/share/Trash/files, and there was nothing there. I looked in /home/myname/.local/share/Trash/info, and there was a firefox.desktop.trashinfo file. I deleted that, but it didn't help. If I now delete something, it does show up in both of these folders - but not in Trash:///. When I go into either of those folders, my mouse pointer turns into the pointing finger symbol - not sure if this is relevant. Under Trash:///, the Empty button highlights, but files do not show. If I start nautilus (Trash:///) through the terminal, I get: (nautilus:6054): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_utf8_collate: assertion `str1 != NULL' failed This repeats indefinitely as the Trash:/// window instantly slows to a near freeze.
