[Bug 256330] [NEW] Evince and EOG display TIFF files flipped
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Evince I can see all pages of one multiple page TIFF file, but they are all "flipped" (left <->right). Please, try to open the enclosed file in Evince to see what I mean (it is like a mirror reflection). Note: 1) KFaxView can display the file in the same Ubuntu installation properly. 2) We have a lot of such TIFF files in our company from scanning of documents at the end of 90's - so it is probable that other business users may / will face the same problem. 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, default gnome environment of Ubuntu ** Affects: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: tiff (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Fix Released -- Evince and EOG display TIFF files flipped https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256330 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 259259] Re: Opaque nautilus drag-n-drop for users without HW GL Acceleration
"Icon translucency during drag-n-drop should be supported even on non-compositing WMs." We cannot do that. We need a compositor to use the RGBA colormap for the dragged icon so that we can make it partially transparent. Historically, Nautilus had code that tried a different path towards this end, but the X server was never able to keep up, making it incredibly slow and that code path would be even more unreasonable for people without hardware accelerated servers than the current approach. "Another alternative would be to see this bug as a request for compositing turned on by default in Ubuntu's Metacity." Metacity's compositor is very young, it's slower than the competition due to using XRender instead of OpenGL (though it is still very reasonable; it performs quite well on my hardware at least) and is still considered experimental. You should file the video bug against Metacity's compositor upstream, though it may be a problem with your video card and/or drivers. The Metacity developers would know better than I would for certain on this, though. On the other hand, Ubuntu already ships with Compiz turned on by default whenever possible, making this feature accessible to as many people as possible. I'm not sure how much more we could be doing in this regard. -- Opaque nautilus drag-n-drop for users without HW GL Acceleration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 259259] [NEW] Opaque nautilus drag-n-drop for users without HW GL Acceleration
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I believe this is a pretty bad usability issue for people without HW accelerated graphics. It seems to be the combination of two separate bugs but the severity of the issue is only apparent when both are considered together. That is why I report two bugs in one report here. First, about the system: Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release:8.10 Codename: intrepid [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installed: 1:2.23.6.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:2.23.6.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:2.23.6.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy metacity metacity: Installed: 1:2.23.55-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:2.23.55-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:2.23.55-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.4~1ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:7.4~1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:7.4~1ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Now, the issue. In vanilla metacity (no compositing), when I drag-n-drop an icon, the icon is opaque. I cannot see what is underneath it and therefore it is very hard to determine where to drop it. This is demonstrated in the attached screenshot. In the screenshot, I am attempting to drop the disk icon onto the trash icon, but it is not clear exactly where to drop it. I asked about this in the forums and was told that the opaque behavior could be fixed by turning on metacity's compositing function. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5563430 I turned on Metacity's compositing function and the icon becomes transparent when trying to drag-n-drop. Great! However, videos do not play properly with Metacity's compositing turned on. The symptom observed is that the audio plays fine, but the video is just a black box, *except* when dragging or resizing the window. When doing those things, a frame or two of the video will display properly. Now, this could be looked at as a feature request for Nautilus: "Icon translucency during drag-n-drop should be supported even on non- compositing WMs." However, that would not be seen as a high-priority issue to fix. Another alternative would be to see this bug as a request for compositing turned on by default in Ubuntu's Metacity. This is probably not do-able due to the Video bug mentioned above as well as CPU requirements on a low-end system. I'm a novice in the Ubuntu bug-fixing world, but am more than willing to help out with this wherever I can. Guidance on how to move forward with this issue would be greatly appreciated! ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Opaque nautilus drag-n-drop for users without HW GL Acceleration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"
I get this on un-secured shares. I am puzzled that samba has been updated today (August 18th) without any apparent change in the situation. It seems that this is not a samba bug, at any rate. Is this a gvfs bug? Is it a seahorse bug (as suggested above by fishor)? Or is it something else? It is certainly, for me at least, unique to Intrepid - the same machines connect just fine using hardy. zoidberg - that's right - you need to run gvfs-mount smb://server/share to get the folder to appear in ~/.gvfs Once it is there you can cd into it and see, and copy, files. Francisco: I don't think the behavior you are describing is related to this bug. komputes: The temp solution is to killall gnome-panel from a gnome- terminal instance (accessed by alt-tab) or VT 1 (accessed by ctrl- alt+F1). [Bug 39377] Re: Many missing icons in default KDE menu from GNOME applications
This seems to be related to KDE 3 only. On Hardy, for example I installed dvd::rip under Kubuntu KDE3 -> No icon. Then, I logged into my parallel install of KDE 4 (from ppa), and the dvd::rip icon is there. On another Ubuntu-Gnome install, also on Hardy, dvd::rip's icon is visible. Maybe that's because the dvd::rip icon is placed in /usr/share/app- install/icons, while most other icons are located under /usr/share/icons? [Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"
I associated my audio problems with Totem, because that's where they first appeared, after an update. However, I have no sound at all when I boot using the current defaults. In Sound Preferences Panel, testing sound playback for Sound Events and for Music and Movies fails no matter what option is selected: Autodetect: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument" ALSA: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback." ESD: no result---"testing pipeline" keeps testing indefinitely, unresponsive to "OK", Window will not close, had to force quit. OSS: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback." PulseAudio Sound Server: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument" The reason? Someone (not me, I presume as part of a recent update) has changed my system so that it boots kernel 2.6.24.19-server. When I boot with 2.6.24.19-generic all the problems disappear, except that volume control refuses to control volume--- I can mute, but not adjust---it's all or nothing. -- "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 259212] [NEW] When moving rapidly between the main menu menus, inconsistent popup times occur.
Public bug reported: Version: 2.23.6, Intrepid Ibex Alpha 4 Whenever I select a menu at the top of the screen, any one with more than eight or so entries take approximately 300-400 ms to load or more, while all the others load instantly. It's especially bad in the System menu, as Administration and Preferences both take especially long to load, and the load is not cached away. When I click System, and then highlight Administration it loads instantly, but when I switch to Preferences, it has a very long delay (a rough guess of around 800 ms), switching back takes slightly longer. When I click Applications, when System Tools is highlighted after going past any others, it loads instantly (most of the time), but it has only two entries. If I select a menu, quickly move my mouse down and back up to the current entry then back down, it loads instantly too. Lastly, if I move my mouse rapidly up and down Applications with my mouse, medium sized menus load instantly too up until around 2 seconds of mouse movement, in which the medium sized ones quit popping up. The same results occurred when tested with gtk-menu-popup-delay set to zero in .gtkrc-2.0 just in case default behavior was exacerbating the situation. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: + Version: 2.23.6, Intrepid Ibex Alpha 4 + Whenever I select a menu at the top of the screen, any one with more than eight or so entries take approximately 300-400 ms to load or more, while all the others load instantly. [Bug 259195] [NEW] Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Selection of the mouse pointer has changed radically under hardy and Gnome 2.22.3 - finding how to do this is un-obvious and obscure. Also, pointer selection can crash Firefox. That happened to me while I was attempting to file this bug report earlier - I had to start from scratch. Previously, mouse pointer selection was done in middle tab of the System>Preferences>Mouse dialog, very logically. All that is left regarding cursor (mouse pointer) selection is a checkbox allowing control-key mouse finding. In my confusion when I first encountered this change, I searched around and found and installed the gcursor package. This provides a dialog with appears to select the mouse pointer (it DOES display the possible cursors), but it doesn't affect the selection. (Bugs such as Bug #138491 have been filed on this). However that particular bug report does give a bit about the new, complicated way of selecting the mouse pointer. The first way is with System>Preferences>Appearance. The resulting dialog "Appearance Preferences" has a "Theme" tab - on that, one can select a theme and click on the Customize button, to bring up a "Customize Themes" dialog, which has a "Pointer" tab, in which you can select a pointer. (This is the first mention of 'mouse' or 'pointer' or 'cursor' in this series of actions). I think that this is very confusing - I had to go to Launchpad and search a bit to find this solution! The Pointer tab should be put back in the mouse dialog! Alternatively, the gcursor program should be fixed, but that really seems to just add another selection to the System>Preferences menu, quite unnecessarily. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259195 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

the trace is missing a lot of symbols, can you please apport to send the report? please follow this instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
