If I change the theme, the title bar colors do not change, but if I log out and log back in, they do change to the correct values for that theme. If I change the title bar colors in gnome-color-chooser and press Apply, they do not change, though the inner(?) window borders and button hover colors do. If I log out and log back in, they are then changed in agreement with gnome-color-chooser. -- Switching between themes in gnome-appearance-properties results in colors getting stuck https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 158870] Re: Pause doesn't release sound interface for use by other apps
Hi, I was using Rhythmbox earlier today to play some mp3s and paused it to watch a brief video clip using the Movie Player app. The video worked fine in Movie Player, but there was no sound and the speaker icon in that app was grayed out. Stopped/exited the Rhythmbox app entirely and tried again and the Movie Player sound was back. I admit to not knowing much about audio architecture under Linux, but this just seems broken--why can't both apps just play nice and share the resource? Particular details of my setup: I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu/Hardy 8.04 on an AMD-64 Athlon, along with Rhythmbox 0.11.5. I have a high-end DSP audio card (SCOPE professional) that I use under Windows (dual-boot setup, and the card doesn't have Linux drivers.) I haven't tried disabling/tweaking any BIOS parameters, but I'd really rather not have to go there. That is when you get the error message. I am sure that I did not change the permission and owner settings of the crash reports myself, since I did a reinstall and my previous crash reports were all deleted. I had previously copied them to another Ubuntu partition in the terminal, but I changed permissions, so I could open them with gedit, by right clicking the icon in the file-browser. I reinstalled my system without repartitioning and copied the /var/cache and /var/crash directories to my reinstalled main partition. When I ran into the same bugs while upgrading again from 8.10 alfa 3 to 2.6.27-2, I noticed the apport upload bug. My Desktop copy from the old /var/cache and /var/crash directories contained only reports that were not recognized as empty though. This while in fact none of them, nor from my old, nor from my new install were actually empty. I fixed this by running the following commands in the terminal: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/crash$ ls -la total 1172 drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4096 2008-09-01 21:50 . drwxr-xr-x 15 root root 4096 2008-07-24 23:09 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 2008-09-01 14:36 .lock -rwxrwxrwx 1 thomas root 427020 2008-09-01 21:55 msttcorefonts.0.crash -rwxrwxrwx 1 thomas root 314087 2008-09-01 21:15 sun-java6-bin.0.crash -rwxrwxrwx 1 thomas root 432325 2008-09-01 21:54 timidity.0.crash [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/crash$ sudo chmod -cR 777 ./*[sudo] password for thomas: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/crash$ sudo chown -cR 1000 ./* [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/crash$ Unfortunately I no longer have the old root-group-user and owner settings anymore. [Bug 260069] Re: gnome-display-properties does not display EDID info
Displaying the EDID is pretty trivial, but probably wouldn't be very meaningful to most users. It can also be obtained via xrandr --verbose, or via the /var/log/Xorg.0.log, or via read-edid. I'm not convinced there's much value to also having it available via the GUI, but wouldn't turn aside a patch that implemented it. Changing your EDID settings on the fly is a different problem, and covered by other feature requests elsewhere, and needn't be considered to add to gnome-control-center (indeed, it has no facilities for modifying xorg.conf). ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- gnome-display-properties does not display EDID info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 263779] [NEW] Evince takes over global shortcut keys
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Hello all, another fun bug! When some of GNOME's global hotkeys correspond to Evince's ones, Evince takes them over and doesn't restore the previous behaviour when it exits. Here's how I see it on my system (Ubuntu 8.10): 1. Set Previous Track/PlayPause/Next track to Ctrl-Alt-Z,X,C respectively in System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts 2. Launch Banshee or Rhythmbox (tested with both). Observe that the global hotkeys work as expected 3. Launch Evince 4. Make sure Evince is not the active window and hit ctrl-alt-x. Evince fullscreens itself 5. Exit Evince 6. Try to use any of the hotkeys set in step 1. None of them work What should happen: (In my opinion) Evince shouldn't be taking over global hotkeys that the user has set previously. A good first step is to make it detect if they are set and not override them. In the future these keys should either be settable by Evince preferences or (ideally) in Keyboard Shortcuts in GNOME. Evince should release the bindings when it exits to not clobber future applications. [Bug 258932] [NEW] Gnome menus sluggish and breakable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After upgrading to 8.10 alpha 4 I have noticed a change in the way menus in Gnome are loaded and displayed. Before menus would be displayed quickly and the icons on that menu would load as you watched it. Now the menus take a second or more to load and the icons are all loaded when it's displayed. However, this makes the menus sluggish and also breaks them if you scroll over different menus quickly while one menu is being loaded. The broken menu is then stuck on screen and the program issuing the menu freezes. I will attach a screenshot of a gnome menu stuck on the desktop. I also managed to break a menu under Gimp but this unfortunately lead to a completely unresponsive system with ctr-alt- backspace the only option. [Bug 260696] [NEW] Rotating a read-only image fails silently
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ensure that you have a read-only image on a directory on your home (the directory was not read only). A little lock appears on the image, but for someone as my wife, that means nothing. Open the image with the default viewing program. Rotate the image, the viewing program just rotates it for your viewing pleasure. Close the program and the process of permanently rotating the image fails silently. Possible solutions: - Refuse to rotate (agh!). - On closing or moving to the next picture, make a pop up window saying that image could not be saved (probable the easiest way to solve this bug, but not very nice). - On rotating show a pop up (same as before) - On rotating show a "status bar" like that for remembering a password on Firefox which is excellent explaining that the rotation operation will be lost because the image can't be saved. Alternative, add a button that should appear at that moment to try to make the image writable. That would make a lovable GUI. Thanks. ** Affects: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Pascal De Vuyst (pascal-devuyst) Status: Incomplete -- Rotating a read-only image fails silently https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/260696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 234811] Re: system freezes after using Screen Resolution to set to 1440 x 900 with DVI output (works from command line or with VGA)
Anyway, as per comment #5, resolution switching from the command line seems to be working ok, so that suggests it's a bug in the Screen Resolution applet, but without a backtrace it's hard to begin troubleshooting on this one. The network failure makes me suspect a kernel issue, but more investigation would be needed on that angle to be sure. ** Summary changed: - [Hardy] system freezes after setting resolution to 1440 x 900 with Radeon 7500 graphics card, when using DVI output, Acer AL1916W monitor + system freezes after using Screen Resolution to set to 1440 x 900 with DVI output (works from command line or with VGA) ** Changed in: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: xserver-xorg-video-ati => gnome-desktop -- system freezes after using Screen Resolution to set to 1440 x 900 with DVI output (works from command line or with VGA) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/234811 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 234811] [NEW] system freezes after using Screen Resolution to set to 1440 x 900 with DVI output (works from command line or with VGA)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After starting up, the resolution is set to 1280 x 960, but the native resolution of my Acer AL1916W monitor is 1440 x 900, so I go System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution, click the drop down menu to select 1440 x 900, the screen blanks out, after waiting at least 60 seconds (usually more) still nothing happens so I hard reset, after Ubuntu [8.04 Hardy Heron] starts the resolution is back to 1280 x 960. This only occurs when I'm using the DVI-I cable, if I use VGA then 1440 x 900 works (I don't like using the VGA cable because image is not super crisp, but I think that's a problem with the monitor's tuning hardware since image is slightly ghosted in Windows XP aswell, DVI-I @ 1440 x 900 works in XP). I'm quite sure I tried 1440 x 900 at both 60 Hz and 75 Hz refresh rates and still the same thing happens. The only ubuntu release that worked properly was 7.10, other releases either didn't work at all or had issues. I did get help from someone in the #ubuntu-ca group on IRC freenode but could still not resolve the issue, so they suggested filing a bug. a copy of /etc/X11/xorg.conf: # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc101" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "radeon" Option "LVDSBiosNativeMode" "false" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen "Default Screen" EndSection ** end of xorg.conf ** a copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log should be attached output of lspci -nn | grep VGA: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV200 QW [Radeon 7500] [1002:5157] output of xrandr: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 960, maximum 1440 x 1200 VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-0 connected 1280x960+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 410mm x 257mm 1400x1050 74.9 1280x1024 75.0 59.9 1440x900 75.0 60.1 1280x960 59.9* 1152x921 75.8 1280x800 74.9 59.8 1152x864 75.0 74.8 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x62474.6 800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x48075.0 72.8 66.7 60.0 720x40070.1 S-video disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-driver-ati Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: Incomplete ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- system freezes after using Screen Resolution to set to 1440 x 900 with DVI output (works from command line or with VGA) https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/234811 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 263146] Re: gvfs-fuse-daemon using 100MB of memory
I restarted the computer to give a clean slate, and checked to see how many processes were running. There was only 1 gvfs-fuse-daemon. Then, I proceeded to run down the list of things I remembered doing with my computer: *I started Firefox; still only 1 process. *I started Synaptic, as I had been using it before I restarted, and still only 1 process. I installed a package, and there was still only 1 process. *I started AbiWord 2.6.x series, which I had installed from a Launchpad PPA. I checked again, and still only 1 process. *I started Gnumeric, which I installed from the repositories, and still only 1 process. *I then tested a screensaver preview; still only 1 process. To be honest, I cannot figure out how to reproduce this bug. I will keep an eye on it, and if I find the problem again, I'll respond to this thread, but for now, there is only 1 process.
