[Bug 272373] [NEW] error while fetching mail

Public bug reported:

I've found that the laptop_panel.brightness_in_hardware key has no effect in
this bug.
It's fixed for me by commenting the following lines in
/usr/share/hotkey-setup/dell.hk:

setkeycodese005$KEY_BRIGHTNESSDOWN # Fn+Down Brightness Down (e005)
setkeycodese006$KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP # Fn+Up Brightness Up (e006)

[Bug 228252] [NEW] "Screen Resolution" dialog only shows one screen, but there are two

2008-09-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My computer is a System76 Bonobo Performance with an ATI X700. The
proprietary ATI drivers are enabled. When the "Screen Resolution" dialog
is opened, it will always show ONE screen only (calling it "Cloned"),
regardless of whether an external screen is attached as well.

The fun thing is that a lot of people seem to judge a laptop's worth by
how easy it is to get a beamer running with it. Since Windows often
gives them an awful experience regarding that task, it would appear that
Ubuntu had a big opportunity to score here!

[Bug 269901] Re: one click on the places sidebar to show volume

2008-09-19 Thread Mike Rooney
Hi Jarlath! This bug was rated as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance, specifically the first and last
bullet points. While I understand your concern, the actual portion of
the Ubuntu community which actively develops is rather small and
limited, so issues like non-booting systems, program crashes, and
improper configurations are more deserving of higher priorities.

Regardless, this bug is an upstream bug in nautilus and the developers
there don't work based on Ubuntu's importance, they consider it within
the scope of their own project. However one of the core developers of
nautilus picked up on it and discovered the precise cause so I think we
are in good hands :)

Thanks for your input.

2008-09-19 Thread nullack
Hi Plun. When I originally tagged it regression-potential I thought this
problem to be a regression over Hardy. Our maestro developer clarified
the functionality was not implemented in Hardy, so therefore the tagging
needed to be removed. Like errors in code, testers sometimes make errors
too :)

[Bug 272349] [NEW] File selection dialog shows "G_IO_ERROR_FAILED_HANDLED" when accessing newly attached USB disk

2008-09-19 Thread nitrogen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

When a file selection dialog in Evolution (accessed through the import
single file function) was already displayed, I inserted a USB keychain
drive. A new entry was automatically added to he Places list of the
file selection dialog. Upon clicking on the newly-created entry, the
following error was displayed:

"Could not mount [disk name] - You are not supposed to show
G_IO_ERROR_FAILED_HANDLED in the UI"

When I closed the file selection dialog and reopened it, I was able to
access the disk.

I believe this is bug is in Gtk and not in Evolution because an
identical error message in other applications has been reported by
others in the Ubuntu forums.

[Bug 269901] Re: one click on the places sidebar to show volume

2008-09-19 Thread Jarlath
Just to add that this is still an issue even when a password isn't asked
for. Clicking on volumes only mounts them and doesn't open a nautilus
instance for them.

This is also an issue in the Places menu on the main Gnome toolbar.
Every other entry causes a window to appear, but not volumes.

My original query is here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5821830#post5821830

Personally, I think that such a significant inconsistency on the desktop
level, which is the first point of contact for all users, should have a
high priority. When I demo the Ubuntu live CD to people, they instantly
get confused by this. And they haven't even launched an application yet!

This is a very early stage to be knocking the users confidence in
themselves or the distro. Could the priority be adjusted?

[Bug 271895] Re: update f-spot to 0.5

2008-09-19 Thread Lebowski
Even though it introduces new features, it still fixes a lot of bugs of
the current version in Intrepid.

Also f-spot is the default photo management software in Ubuntu and
therefore should be as feature-rich as possible.

For new features especially the new sidebar and the reworked editors seem
interesting, as they will make it even easier to quickly edit pictures.
The editors are already pretty useful and if they were even better in 0.5 users
would not have to start a huge editing programm like Gimp for just a quick
red-eye-removal or color adjustment in general.

Also color profile support seems pretty cool since usually pictures on the
monitor screen look bright and natural, but if you print them paper they look
not too brilliant.
Color structures correct the image in view of physical opportunities of devices
of a conclusion. So it is is possible to facilitate the life of users and
present them too more functionality with adding the support of color profiles
in f-spot.
(taken from:
http://code.google.com/soc/2008/gnome/appinfo.html?csaid=1EF7F7EDFE7E57BE )

This seems pretty urgent for anybody who wants to print out those really
cool pictures just taken with the new camera and especially a DSLR.

I am sorry that my skills are not enough to provide the diffstat here,
but nontheless I would really give f-spot 0.5 a warm welcom to Intrepid
since users will generally benefit from a more polished version of the
default photo management programm in Ubuntu.

Cheers,
Michael

There is this line in the changelog for 2.23.1-0ubuntu1, which could be
related:

  * 04_brightness_events.patch: Removing. The code upstream has change
significantly and logic is roughly the same now. May require some
additional patching, but will wait on user feedback.

[Bug 272324] [NEW] nautilus-connect-server connect samba server

2008-09-19 Thread Rob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

It is possible to open smb://servername/ in nautilus. It then shows the
available 'windows' shares...

But, it is not supported by nautilus-connect-server to type *only* the
windows server name and hit "connect". You get a error message saying
"Can't display location "smb://localhost/" - No application is
registered as handling this file".

This is not very user friendly. See screenshots attached.

I understand it is not possible to "connect" the server itself -- you require
to specify a sharename as well.
So, I propose one of these solutions:

1) Introduce markings that indicate which fields are required, and show a
dialog saying you have to enter the share name in case of connecting to a
windows share
2) Add functionality that allows you to select the sharename you want to
"connect"

As a side note. I think from the name "connect to server" it is quite
unclear what the tool does for the uninitiated. Perhaps "Access network
filesystem" is a better description to use in the "Places" menu.

I have discussed this with marcobra here;
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+question/45685

[Bug 272317] [NEW] Nautilus: 100% CPU-Usage after login

2008-09-19 Thread nordlicht.ol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

As said in the Summary. I'm using Intrepid A6, after todays updates,
Nautilus is using nearly 100% of CPU-Time, leading to an extreme choppy
Desktop-Performance. It seems as if Nautilus is working heavy on the
Images in "/home/USER/.tumbmails" Folder. When deleting the Folder, CPU-
Usage turns back to "normal" Range, but some Menu still reacting very
slow.

Updates installed before that behaivior starts:

gtk2-engines-pixbuf (2.14.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.14.2-0ubuntu1
libgtk2.0-0 (2.14.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.14.2-0ubuntu1

[Bug 272309] Re: in ubuntu 8.04.1 while in Terminal i can't change directory with cd

2008-09-19 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Please file separate bugs for your sound issue and your gnome-terminal
issue, thanks.

2A That's right

2B The following all move to the user's home directory, which is where you're
starting, so of course nothing changes:
cd
cd ~
This should return an error:
cd~
This should simply tell you your home directory is a directory:
~
This should change the last character before $ from ~ to /:
cd /
This should only work if you have a directory named home inside the current
directory:
cd home
This should only work if /home/doc exists:
cd /home/doc
2C A \ means it'll continue on the next line.

2D cd /home/bdd4 is the same as cd ~ which is why the directory shown
for your location is ~

Is this the behaviour you're experiencing? If not, please copy and paste what
happens in your terminal when running these commands.

I can't reproduce this with 8.04.1 and 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1 using IMAP, so
maybe it's related to the Exchange plugin.

[Bug 268331] Re: evolution-alarm-notifier being killed

2008-09-19 Thread AquaQuieta
I'm not sure how you attached gdb to the process to get the info you
posted (One day I'll get around to reading the rest of that man
page!)...but I will say that I have definitely noticed that the
evolution-alarm-notify does disappear quite often...and with no notice
whatsoever...very annoying. When the process is running, I get alarms
for all my appointments, even if evolution itself is not running...but
this only lasts for a little while. When I notice that I didn't get an
alarm for a particular event, I check the processes and sure enough
evolution-alarm-notify is gone. No error messages or log file entries to
be found. Restarting evolution fixes it for a short while...the process
shows back up and I start getting new alarms (any missed alarms don't
come up but I think that's probably a separate issue, judging from some
of the other bug reports)

It has gotten so bad that I'm considering writing a little cron script
to check for the missing process and restart evolution if
necessary...now if I can only figure out how to make kdocker put it back
in the application dock ;-)

Anyway, I'm running an up-to-date 32-bit Hardy 8.04 (current kernel
2.6.24-19-generic) with Evolution 2.22.3.1.

[Bug 272281] [NEW] Pango-WARNING **: Error loading GPOS table

chasing bugs... I'd like to report this one.

$ mousepad

The table number doesn't matter, since that bug happens because Pango
warns about an empty table. Below links with explanations from

i can understand, that this is not installed by default (well, say:
partly, because ubuntu includes proprietary kernel modules), but why is
it only in multiverse?

[Bug 251910] Re: gvfsd-trash crashed with SIGSEGV in g_idle_funcs()

2008-09-19 Thread Sam
Hi,
after booting Live CD Intrepid Alpha4 this bug occured, adding, that on the
first boot with the same CD few weeks ago this bug did not occur. However, I
was asked to submit a report to developers and that is what I did now, hope it
was submitted and helps. Not sure, but the difference to the first boot was
that I choosed german localization and today I leave the english, beside, that
is why my keyboard gives me a hard time at the moment to find the right keys.

For the record, the reason I run once in a while Live CD is some testing
about xorg and at the moment I was supposed to test a bug within Totem,
what I will do after this report. Actually I run Hardy LTS on amd_64.

[Bug 272245] [NEW] gvfs-powered gnome cannot create files on burn:///

2008-09-19 Thread cicoandcico
Public bug reported:

with the introduction of the new gvfs backend in 2.22, gnome burn
utility has lost the ability to create files (a text file, as a example)
in the burn:/// meta-directory.

steps to reproduce the bug:

1. open burn:/// in nautilus
2. right click => create document => empty file
3. error: operation not supported by backend

that's certainly not a blocker, but that's a regression.

directories can be created flawlessy.

[Bug 272239] [NEW] [Intrepid]Nautilus hogging up memory

2008-09-19 Thread shafin
Public bug reported:

After some usage, nautilus memory use increases to 50-60 MB. If I use it
for right click extracting of archives, It even increases to 150 MB. I
have a machine with 1 GB RAM, but along with firefox, this nautilus
memory usage is crippling my machine in some occasions.

I use 200% icon display, and change Icons often.

If any more info is needed, please tell me.

Thanks.

[Bug 272233] [NEW] [Intrepid]Unable to add anything to sessions

2008-09-19 Thread shafin
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to intrepid,I am unable to add new commands to my startup via
the sessions dialog. Whenever I try to add a new one or edit an existing one, I
get the dialog:
"The startup command cannot be empty"

However,I am still able to check/uncheck them to enable/disable them.
Interestingly, I am also able to add new commands to my startup by going
to ~/.config/autostart and adding editing components there.

Thanks in advance for helping.

[Bug 259343] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash(), mounting ISO

2008-09-19 Thread plun
Well... this was discussed during Hardys development within another bug.
The archieve mounter was there but hidden. Fedora 9 enabled it and it works
great when
I asked a couple of users.

What do you mean with "unsetting the tag" ?

[Bug 272228] [NEW] Please sponsor gnome-volume-manager 2.22.5 into intrepid

2008-09-19 Thread Didier Roche
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

gnome-volume-manager (2.22.5-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #272228)
- fix totem dvd handling
- warning fixes
- update to the new HAL 0.5.0 API
  * Merge patches:
- 00_disable_media_handling.patch: integrate upstream changes. Rely now on
#ifdef ENABLE_AUTOMOUNT (disabled by default now that Nautilus handles
  this). Revert filter_out_media_handling() to gconf_value_get_bool()
- 02_fix_autokeyboard_gconf.patch: adapt to the new src/manager.c with
  #ifdef ENABLE_AUTOMOUNT structure
- 08_fix_scanner_support.patch: deleted as applied upstream

[Bug 272230] [NEW] Camera Import: Checking "Always perform this action" then Ignore does not persist

2008-09-19 Thread Sean Sosik-Hamor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
gnome-volume-manager:
  Installed: 2.22.1-1ubuntu6
  Candidate: 2.22.1-1ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 2.22.1-1ubuntu6 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When plugging in my 16 GB iPhone 3G I get the expected "Camera Import: A
camera has been detected" dialog box with the buttons "Ignore" and
"Import Photos" with a "Always perform this action" checkbox.

Checking "Always perform this action" and clicking "Ignore" does not
persist; unplugging my phone and plugging it back in again results in
the same Camera Import dialog box.

I'd expect to never see the dialog box again by selecting "Always
perform this action" and clicking "Ignore" since I'd rather do imports
manually in F-Spot instead of a dialog box popping up every time I plug
in a USB device that Ubuntu thinks has photos on it.
