I am using an aging PC 2-channel speakers that I need to set left/right

[Bug 152851] Re: Media Key + Rhythmbox + Screensaver

2008-10-06 Thread Richard Laager
Sebastien, I have to disagree. This has been a continual annoyance of
mine for years on multiple operating systems. Tonight, I was working in
a remote office playing music. As I was wiring, the screensaver would
activate and I would then be unable to change the song if I didn't like
what came up.

If the downside is security concerns, then this could be made optional.
Or, I would suggest the following: In the case of the Play/Pause key,
tell the application if the key was passed through the screensaver, so
it would only honor a Pause, not a Play request. This allows one to skip
songs and Pause the music, but not start up something.

Given this is the default mail client in Ubuntu, and this is a fairly

[Bug 279471] [NEW] eog should auto-refresh when file changes

2008-10-06 Thread drewp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

For example:

cp red.jpg image.jpg
eog image.jpg &
cp blue.jpg image.jpg

eog will keep showing the red image, even if I re-select image.jpg from
the recent files list.

The use case is when I'm working on a program that outputs an image, and
I keep rerunning my program on each iteration. As it is, I have to use
something like kview or gwenview to avoid constantly restarting my
viewer just to see the latest iteration. Even pressing alt-f,1 in eog
would probably make me switch back.

[Bug 239585] Re: Various totem shortcuts in conflict with YouTube search

2008-10-06 Thread Omegamormegil
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: totem

- Ubuntu version in use: Hardy with all updates installed as of June 12th 2008
and Intrepid beta
- Totem version in use: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
+ Ubuntu version in use: Intrepid beta
+ Totem version in use: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2

  What I wanted to do:
Using the search function of the youtube plug-in, I wanted to search for a
video whose name included the capital letter S, or the numbers 0, 1, or 2.

  What I expected to happen:
I wanted to type in the search term and I expected the typed-in letters to
appear in the search field.

  What happened instead:
Whenever I type in Shift+S, I am offered a screenshot. (Shift+S is the
shortcut to take a screenshot in totem). Pressing 0, 1, or 2 resize the window
and fail to input the numbers into the search box.

  Steps to reproduce:
  0. Start totem.
  1. Enable the youtube plugin (Edit -> Plug-Ins -> Mark YouTube-Browser)
  2. Press F9 to show the panel on the right edge of the window.
  3. Select "YouTube" from the drop down menu.
  4. Activate the search term field by left-clicking into it.
  5. Type something, including Shift+S, 0, 1, or 2.

Workaround: The search does not appear to be case-sensitive, in the first
case, substituting the capital letters with lowercase works for letters.
Searching for 0, 1, or 2 requires copying and pasting from another program,
such as gedit.
Proposed solution: Make all shortcut key combinations require the use of the
alt key.

I can confirm this using f-spot 0.4.4-1ubuntu4. I did not experience a

[Bug 206583] Re: System Monitor crashes when lowering nice value of process

2008-10-06 Thread Hew McLachlan
You're right. This bug had disappeared with Intrepid, but now it's back
again. Crashing only occurs when lowering the nice value still, so only
when gksu is triggered.

The upstream bug report suggested to change the gconf key /apps/gksu
/disable-grab key to True, which correctly stops the crash from occuring
(although gksu now has window decoration, another issue). Due to this, I
am marking as also affecting gksu.

** Changed in: ubuntu

The crash only occurs when increasing the priority (lowering the nice
value). Decreasing priority works as intended.

[Bug 279440] [NEW] f-spot crashes when importing a particular photo

2008-10-06 Thread trjonescp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Using Ubuntu Intrepid (devel branch). Using F-Spot 0.4.4.

When I import the attached photo to f-spot it shows up briefly then
F-Spot crashes. When I re-open f-spot, it immediately crashes. I have to
manually delete the photo that was imported into my f-spot Photo
directory (along with a some other random 0 byte file) for it to work.
Also attached a transcript of the session with --debug when F-Spot

[Bug 279431] [NEW] Spatial Nautilus windows do not remember their size or position

2008-10-06 Thread GreySim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Using spatial Nautilus (Edit -> Preferences -> Behaviour tab -> Uncheck
"Always open in browser windows"), windows do not remember their size or
position the way that they did in GNOME/Ubuntu previous to 2.24/8.10.
I've tried this with Metacity and Compiz both, and the bug appears to be
present in both of them. I'm running an up-to-date install of Ibex as of
this bug report.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-10-06 Thread Andy
The reason why there are so many duplicates is because this issue is not just
related to burning.
Here is a simple run down.

In some configurations :-

Hardy 8.04 LTS will

1) Fail to recognize any DVDs DVD-r etc. and will only read CD-Roms no
burning on either CD or DVD

or

2) Fail to recongize only CD-ROMs and Burn to CD-ROMs only. Not DVDs.

or

3) Fail to recognize DVDs but no blanks

or

4) fail to recognize DVD media burned in Gutsy. Yet WinXP sees the DVD and all
previous versions of Ubuntu
sees the DVD

In all these cases it does not work in gnome/nautilus nor does it work mounting
manually on the command line.
it simply fails to see the media "no media in drive" and nothing no errors in
syslog or dmesg.

[Bug 239585] Re: Various totem shortcuts in conflict with YouTube search

2008-10-06 Thread Omegamormegil
** Summary changed:

- Shortcut to take screenshot in conflict with YouTube search
+ Various totem shortcuts in conflict with YouTube search

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: totem

- Ubuntu version in use: Hardy with all updates installed as of June 12th 2008
+ Ubuntu version in use: Hardy with all updates installed as of June 12th 2008
and Intrepid beta
  Totem version in use: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2

  What I wanted to do:
- Using the search functino of the youtube plug-in, I wanted to search for a
video whose name included the capital letter "S".
+ Using the search function of the youtube plug-in, I wanted to search for a
video whose name included the capital letter S, or the numbers 0, 1, or 2.

  What I expected to happen:
I wanted to type in the search term and I expected the typed-in letters to
appear in the search field.

  What happened instead:
- Whenever I type in Shift+S, I am offered a screenshot. (Shift+S is the
shortcut to take a screenshot in totem).
+ Whenever I type in Shift+S, I am offered a screenshot. (Shift+S is the
shortcut to take a screenshot in totem). Pressing 0, 1, or 2 resize the window
and fail to input the numbers into the search box.

  Steps to reproduce:
  0. Start totem.
  1. Enable the youtube plugin (Edit -> Plug-Ins -> Mark YouTube-Browser)
  2. Press F9 to show the panel on the right edge of the window.
  3. Select "YouTube" from the drop down menu.
  4. Activate the search term field by left-clicking into it.
- 5. Type something, including Shift+S.
+ 5. Type something, including Shift+S, 0, 1, or 2.

- Workaround: The search does not appear to be case-sensitive, so we can
substitute the capital "S" with "s" for now.
- Proposed solution: Re-Assign a new shortcut to the screenshot function.
+ Workaround: The search does not appear to be case-sensitive, in the first
case, substituting the capital letters with lowercase works for letters.
Searching for 0, 1, or 2 requires copying and pasting from another program,
such as gedit.
+ Proposed solution: Make all shortcut key combinations require the use of the
alt key.

[Bug 256048] Re: Loading PDF file hang on Loading...

2008-10-06 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Sebastien Bacher : Here's a debdiff for hardy-proposed, based on
2.22.1.1-0ubuntu1 in hardy-updates. I successfully built and tested this
patch, evince works perfectly so far. Should I start a standard SRU
procedure or you can take care of it?

[Bug 279406] [NEW] "Shut Down" dialog doesn't open in the foreground

2008-10-06 Thread Andrew Tipton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When pressing either the "Shut Down" button in the GNOME system menu or
pressing my laptop's power button (I have the action set to "Ask Me" in
the Power settings), the "Shut Down the Computer" dialog opens but is
*behind* all of my open windows. I have to click on the window in the
panel's window list (or Alt-Tab to it) for it to be raised and receive
focus!

(Needless to say, since the default action is to shut down after 60
seconds, not noticing the window could be dangerous.)

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
Package: gnome-power-manager 2.24.0-0ubuntu4~ppa3
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: gnome-power-manager
Uname: Linux 2.6.27-5-generic i686
UnreportableReason: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback does not work anymore

2008-10-06 Thread nullack
Sebastien this isnt fixed. Since getting the updates my test system
provides the following error dialogue when trying to playback the R4
title "The Core" - a dvd subpicture decoder plugin is required to play
this stream, but not installed." The strange thing is I have the good,
bad, ugly, dirac, ffmpeg etcetc gstreamer plugins.

If I close that error and restart totem fresh, I get a different error
that I got before about not being able to parse the playlists.

Public bug reported:

There's a mistranslation in en_GB, that shows the window tile of the Find

The translation mishap can be viewed here:

(thanks wgrant, on ubuntuforums, for the link)

So-far the en_US and en_AU locales are confirmed to be unaffected.

effects-integration.patch, it's just that this patch patches a patch.

[Bug 278694] Re: Update to version 1.1.0

2008-10-06 Thread Nathan Handler
Since the patch for LP Bug #138010 was incomplete, I have simply updated
this .diff.gz to include the proper patch for that bug. I also am not
able to perform the level of testing that should probably take place
prior to this upgrade. This is partially due to not having a computer
that supports bluetooth, and partially due to a lack of knowledge of the
differences between BlueZ 3.x and 4.x. In order to make it easier for
this testing to occur, I have uploaded my upgraded version of nautilus-
sendto to my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~nhandler/+archive). If you test
this package, please add a comment with your results to this bug report.
I would be glad to make any needed changes.

nautilus-sendto (1.1.0-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #278694)
  * Update description and suggests in debian/{control,control.in} for
claws-mail instead of sylpheed-claws. Also update debian/README.debian
to mention claws-mail instead of sylpheed-claws. (LP: #138010)

[Bug 279360] [NEW] unrar should be installed to open rar files

2008-10-06 Thread Jono Bacon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When clicking on a rar file, file-roller should ask if you want to
install unrar from multiverse. If you install unrar first, file-roller
unpacks the file perfectly.

[Bug 278654] Re: gnome-system-monitor doesn't run in user

2008-10-06 Thread Joseph
Running latest 8.10 beta with updates up to Oct 6 and gnome-system-
terminal crashes every time I click on File Systems tab as myself, but
works if running as root. The problem is exactly the same as this bug
report. I've had this problem since alpha 4 release (but it might have
been there even before that).

It still works fine with 8.04.

I believe the concern was with the bug being categorized as low
priority. Is it possible to up the priority?
