[Bug 249568] Re: Backlight isn't turned off after inactivity on iBook G4

2008-10-24 Thread lopthopman
I've had this problem too, but it has been solved. Perhaps you have the
same problem I did.

Is your screensaver on? If it is, TURN IT OFF. Even if you select
"blank screen", it turns on the backlight. So, give this a try:

1. turn OFF the screensaver
2. on Powermanagement, set "put display to sleep when inactive" to the desired
time

Please update this bug if this works for you

[Bug 39328] Re: Offer option to disable scroll wheel on task list

2008-10-24 Thread Alassane
I will bump this. I also think that it is not even convenient when we
use the "normal" mouse wheel. To look on every desktop a window free
area to use it, is much more a pain in the ars*. it's much more simple
to simply use arrow.

I never used this "feature" intentionally. even without the trackpad.
It's a pain not to be able to disable it

I confirm this bug in evolution 2.22.3.1 on Hardy (KDE 3.5.10 or KDE 4),
with timezone Europe/Paris.

$ zdump -v Europe/Paris | grep 2008

Europe/Paris Sun Oct 26 01:00:00 2008 UTC = Sun Oct 26 02:00:00 2008 CET

See attached screenshot. Evolution timeline seems to switch to DST at
the beginning of week (Monday Oct.20) instead of next sunday (Oct.26).
Events in red on the screenshot are script-generated from an external
timetable. They are correctly aligned with the corresponding manually
edited events except this week.

Periodic appointements (in November and later) are displayed one hour
earlier.

[Bug 257477] Re: dictionary-update

2008-10-24 Thread JackPotte
The Ubuntu default dictionary,
when we try to add an entry,
isn't present in the initial list,
show us an unlinked URL.

Moreover, this dictionary has to be upgraded with :

0) The 2.0 mode, with picture, video, etymology (languages and years of
beginning), phonetic (written and sound), conjugation, usual
expressions, derived terms, translations, synonyms/antonyms,
homonyms/paronyms, hyponyms/hyperonyms, meronyms/holonyms, anagrams and
references.

1) Black wallpaper with colored fonts, for energy and eyes preservation.

2) Crossword research.

3) Print link for all objects (arrays, pictures, schemes...), with
translations (eg: foreign meronyms).

4) Link towards articles to achieve and external links to include in the
dictionary (eg: I offer a 15 000 entries list of homonyms & false
friends in the chapter 4 of homonymme.eu)

5) Photo, sound and video edition interface, with history.

6) An option for page reading, with several voices at a choice, and the
possibility to read some pages with video plugins in addition (karaoke,
colored fonts, films, video algorithms).

7) Download version for PDA and mobile phone with regular updates.

Cool Addition of new models : false-friends, transparent words, real
friends or international paronyms.

9) Listing requests from definitions, eg: hyponyms of horse in 2
selected languages, all English + French + Spanish false friends, all
etymologies of the words ending with the -logy suffix, ordered by
alphabetic order, word occurrences in the selected language, or year of
appearance in all languages.

10) To give the result of the letters and sounds of the sentences by showing
its results according to some selected codes.
It would also give the associated multilingual false-friends, separated in
international homonyms & paronyms.

11) Translate a text by changing its person (eg: replace "he has" by
"you have").

[Bug 202800] Re: Notebook monitor does not turn off when idle

2008-10-24 Thread lopthopman
I used to have this problem, but it is solved.

Check to that see that your screensaver is OFF. The screensaver, even
if you tell it to display a "blank screen", will turn on the backlight.
Silly, yes, but it is what it is. So if you have an LCD, turn the
screensaver off.

In ubuntu:
system->preferences-> uncheck "activate screensaver when computer id idle"

Then, press "power management" on the bottom of the dialog. Here, check
your setting for "Put display to sleep when inactive". This will turn
off the backlight.

[Bug 260492] Re: opening a directory using an application change associations incorrectly

2008-10-24 Thread tonfa
This is not fixed for me, I just had this bug, upgrading to intrepid
today.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ aptitude show nautilus
Package: nautilus
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1

$ cat .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=vlc-usercustom.desktop;nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;
application/x-extension-img=userapp-vlc-WEXVHU.desktop;

And I have some entries about vlc in .local/share/applications.
I remember having already read a folder (containing some .TS from a dvd) by
right-clicking and choosing vlc.
If that's the reason the fix isn't working for me, fine (then it shouldn't
affect many people). But it still shouldn't behave like that during the upgrade.

[Bug 288255] [NEW] "Screen Resolution" application does not see all monitors when docked

2008-10-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 8.10
IBM Thinkpad T43
FGLRX Driver

Docking station with two 1600x1200 monitors attached.

Upon docking my Thinkpad to its docking station, I expected the Screen
Resolution application to be able to see both of my external monitors &
that I am able to conveniently switch to using the two external monitors
at their native resolution. I also expect help & report a problem
feature to work in the application.

Instead, upon dock, my native screen does continue to work, but I am
greeted with one external monitor that is garbage (not syncing
properly). (BTW, I can tell that the system is attempting to mirror the
native screen because I can see "something" happening on the external
when I mouse around and type on the native screen.) When I click help,
I get nothing.

When I look at the Screen Resolution panel (suing the laptop's native
screen), I only see the one monitor, and no selections for 1600x1200.
So, there is no way that I can find to fix this so that I can switch
between undocked (one native monitor, docked (two external monitors)
cleanly.

What I really, really want is to assign hotkeys (Windows-F7 and Fn-F7)
that will switch/toggle my monitor mode automatically between different
modes at highest possible resolution:

o Mirror native with single external
  o Dual native/external
  o Dual external

I would then use Screen Resolution as a fall-back in case I had a
specific need for a special resolution.

[Bug 285682] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 can't mount digital camera

2008-10-24 Thread Connor Imes
I have marked bug #285682 as a duplicate of this - a developer can look
there for more technical data.

This current bug report contains the background information and
discussion. I am setting the package to gvfs and setting the status to
Triaged so a developer can begin work. Thank you.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server

2008-10-24 Thread Marcel
Confirmed on Ubuntu 8.10 alpha6 64-bit Evolution 2.24.1
I have 1 Evolution Trash and one IMAP Trash.
I don't have the correct icons for my IMAP folders also.

I rather would have the Thunderbird/Lightning combination syncing with
gnome-pilot, since Mozilla does more active development IMO.

2008-10-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 8.10 can't seem to mount my Lumix DMC-LS80 camera.

It worked fine in Ubuntu 8.04.1

An error box pops up saying:

Unable to mount Panasonic (Matsushita) Lumix DMC-FZ10 Camera

Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device

The dmesg command after adding the camera:

[29369.836032] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3

Would be nice if we could get it into intrepid though, so please try it out and

[Bug 35112] Re: MP3 track times are incorrect

2008-10-24 Thread nexus
Even though mp3 is not officially supported I think it's very bad that this bug
is not fixed for over two (2!!) years.
I understand the reasons to not officially support mp3 but it's a
quasi-standard in the digital world.

Does anybody work on this bug any more? Or will we have it still in
Ubuntu 10.10? This is one of the bugs who dissapoint non-technophile
users very much.

[Bug 288854] [NEW] gnome-power-manager causes too many wakeups (reported by powertop)

2008-10-24 Thread RobinMHolt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On an intrepid (upgraded from Hardy which was upgraded from Gutsy),
gnome-power-manager is being reported in powertop as causing too many
wakeups. This is a new behavior. I did not see this with Hardy. It

Thank you for your bug report. This crash is due to a bug in

built against this version.

FYI, there is a patch in the upstream issue tracker for libflickrnet to
make Zoomr support work. This patch will fix the crasher you see, in
particular, this bit of the patch will fix it:

[Bug 288472] Re: I have no sound. Computer says I have an AC 97, and the help page says to open a shell and type the code in. Being new to Ubuntu, I dont know where to find a shell!

2008-10-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
I believe you are looking for the terminal. If you go to applications ->
accessories -> terminal the GNOME terminal will open. This is the most
common command line interface (CLI) in ubuntu used to enter commands.

A little research online is telling me that shell and terminal are not
quite the same thing but are often used interchangably. Im still a bit
fuzzy on the shell concept. If you are not looking for the terminal my
apologies.

As for your sound issues I am unable to help as of yet. If you could
discover what sound card you have a search online would likely lead you
to a place where other people have run into your problem. Unfortunately
I don't know the appropriate command to tell you what sound card you
have.

As a side note the next ubuntu release intrepid ibex 8.10 is due out in
6 days and is in release candidate stage as of yesterday. You could look
into upgrading or installing intrepid which may possibly solve your
problem but may also cause some other bug to occur.

[Bug 288446] Re: Cannot do odd roots of negative numbers.

2008-10-24 Thread StatusWoe
While you are correct in saying that the odd roots will give a single,
non-complex answer I'm not sure how one would go about identifying the
odd roots in a reasonable, consistent fashion.

I would assume that the bracketed exponent is evaluated initially to a
decimal. For the most part you could invert the decimal and get the base
of the fraction and using that determine if the root will be even or
odd. However for irrational (currently the check is against non-integers
so these are caught) and repeating fractions this number is only
approximate, which, when used to evaluate the parity of root could
introduce errors.

I think that dealing with non-integer exponents of negative bases is
beyond the scope of gcalctool and more in line with something like
Rascal, Genius, Qalculate, or even Octave. However, I understand that
since this is the default shipping calculator with many Gnome desktops
there may be a desire to see it's functionality increased.
