[Bug 256749] Re: Unable to mount location -- Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume

2008-10-31 Thread wraj
I can confirm it too...

The only difference being that I am on the Final Release that I downloaded
yesterday...
I too get the same erratic dialog when I double click over it and the things
still goes fine after neglecting that message that pops out...But when I right
click and choose the mount option, things goes kinda fine and the drive is shown
mounted and I can enter into it without any hassle by double clicking it !!!

I repeat my specs : Ubuntu 8.10 (Final Release) plus all the updates
released till date (excluding linux-headers-2.6.27-7,linux-
headers-2.6.27-7-generic & linux-image-2.6.27-7 generic)

[Bug 278261] Re: two xscreens -> gnome panel crashes

2008-10-31 Thread chewearn
I am seeing the same problem.
kernel: 2.6.27-7-generic x86_64
Ubuntu: Intrepid(8.10)
Gnome: 2.24.1
nvidia-drivers: 177
gnome-panel: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2

Two monitors, separate X screens.

If I click on a panel application launcher on screen 2, gnome-panel stop
responding and consumed 100% CPU. An empty dialogbox appeared in screen
1 with title "Error".

"killall gnome-panel" brought things back. /var/crash directory is
empty.

It looks like the application launchers in screen 2 "thought" they are
in screen 1 (if you right-click on the application launcher icon in
screen 2 and select properties, the Properties dialog appeared in screen
1).

2008-10-31 Thread Jesús Gómez
Same here, ubuntu 8.04 Hp Pavilion dv 1000. ALT-TAB freeze X. To solve: CTR-ALT

It is noted that i installed xubuntu-desktop package, switched to an xfce
session (it's still gtk) and there emacs doesn't hang. I tried again in gnome,
but freeze.

[Bug 291901] [NEW] Fullscreen mode ignores customized toolbar settings.

2008-10-31 Thread Derek White
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Before anyone screams duplicate, #148593
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148593) is a subset of this bug; and,
the developers should have looked more closely, because that wasn't
really the problem. The problem is that NO customizations are carried
over to full screen mode, not just the singular case of 'no toolbar'.

1) Customize toolbar icons.
1.5) Optionally, restart evince. (Made no difference.)
2) Enter full screen mode.

What I expect:
   My customized toolbar is retained.

What happens instead:
   Default toolbar is displayed.

Thoughts:
Maybe the full screen toolbar is static/hard-coded? (Hope not.)
Maybe it just 'forgets' to check for customized toolbar settings?

Quite unintuitive either way.

[Bug 287654] Re: gnome-panel will not display open windows in panel

2008-10-31 Thread ldm
After submiting the previous information I realized that the icons for
selecting the workspace only show color on half of the selected icon
when the problem occurs. If you select the configure display icon and
select the one of the two displayed monitor and move it to the other
side of the other monitor select apply and then move it back to the
original location and select apply it fixes the problem but both bottom
and top panels are displayed on one screen. This fixes both the half
colored icons in the workspace selector and the problem with the window
list not showing on the panel.

[Bug 291853] Re: Weather service does not add entry if city is selected but "Timezone" field is "Unknown"

2008-10-31 Thread komputes
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 8.10
  gnome-applets 2.24.1-0ubuntu1

It seems that not all the cities listed comes with a timezone attached
with it. Some cities such as Paris and New York work fine, they have a
timezone attached to them, other cities do not have timezones need to be
fixed. Some examples of these are:

  Arviat, Nunavut
  Yellowknife, NWT
  Montreal, Quebec
  Radisson, Quebec
  Oral, Kazakhstan
  Shymkent, Kazakhstan
  Qyzylorda, Kazakhstan
  Burwash Landing, Yukon

These are a few that I found but there are most likely many more. I
think it would be wise to have all of the cities auto-complete this
field so that the following does not reproduce itself. It give the
impression that the applet is broken when in fact the user has no idea
that the timezone field is required to add the entry to the list.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Click on the clock panel
  2) Beside "Locations" select "Edit"
  3) This will open a new window - In the "Locations" tab click "+ Add"
  4) Put the name of any of the cities mentioned above
  5) Press OK

  What happens:
- The city is not added.
+ The city is not added regardless of actions taken. No alert is shown.

  What is expected:
- Either every city should automatically be associated with a Timezone or if
this is not technically possible for some reason, prompt the user to input the
missing mandatory field.
+ Either every city should automatically be associated with a Timezone or if
this is not technically possible for some reason, prompt the user, or force the
user to input the missing mandatory field.

[Bug 291881] [NEW] Search folders have the wrong Unread count

2008-10-31 Thread Jon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a folder with 13 unread messages in it, plus some additional
messages marked important. I created a search folder for this folder
where the criteria is "[Status is not Read] or [Status is Important]".
The search folder contains all 13 unread messages (I counted them) plus
the read messages that are marked important, but the unread count for
the search folder is 9 - it displays (9) next to the name of the search
folder, and if I select the search folder, at the top it says "9 unread,
51 total".

The problem occurs with both an IMAP account and a local Maildir
account. Right-clicking on the search folder and selecting Refresh
doesn't fix it. Restarting evolution doesn't fix it, either. Deleting
and re-creating the search folder fixes the problem, but the unread
count gets out of sync again after a while. I've also tried deleting
the account from evolution and re-adding it, but the problem comes back
after a while. I'm running evolution Version: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 (the one
that comes with Ubuntu 8.10). I've never encountered this issue in the
version of evolution in Ubuntu 8.04. Can anyone else reproduce this?

I did something similar, also by hand. Strictly speaking I think the
K links should also be at 99, because they're run in reverse order.
But precise shutdown order is a bit moot.

[Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error

2008-10-31 Thread yldouright
Here is what I did to finally get rid of this error with the updated version of
Ubuntu 7.10:
1. Open a terminal window by Ctrl-Alt-F2
2. At the prompt type "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" without the quotes
3. On the next line type "sudo aptitude reinstall gnome-applets" without the
quotes
4. If you get an error message you will need to also type "sudo dpkg
--configure -a"
Don't switch back to the original Gnome window until all the operations complete

[Bug 281861] Re: Clossing search window shutdown aplication

2008-10-31 Thread komputes
I can confirm having had this bug very recently. This is only an issue
with Tomboy 0.12.0-0ubuntu1 where closing the "search all notes" window
closes the entire program instead of keeping the applet in the
notification area alive for quick access. This is not reproduceable
starting Tomboy from the command line.

To double-check this, open tomboy from the command line, you will see
that the search window does not pop up on its own.

Start Tomboy from Applications > Accessories > Tomboy Notes and you will
see that the search window comes up. Should you close this window Tomboy
will close (even in the panel).

Now that I try to reproduce it, I can't... was there an update in
another package which might have fixed this?

[Bug 291853] [NEW] Weather service does not add entry if city is selected but "Timezone" field is "Unknown"

2008-10-31 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.10
gnome-applets 2.24.1-0ubuntu1

It seems that not all the cities listed comes with a timezone attached
with it. Some cities such as Paris and New York work fine, they have a
timezone attached to them, other cities do not have timezones need to be
fixed. Some examples of these are:

Arviat, Nunavut
Yellowknife, NWT
Montreal, Quebec
Radisson, Quebec
Oral, Kazakhstan
Shymkent, Kazakhstan
Qyzylorda, Kazakhstan
Burwash Landing, Yukon

These are a few that I found but there are most likely many more. I
think it would be wise to have all of the cities auto-complete this
field so that the following does not reproduce itself. It give the
impression that the applet is broken when in fact the user has no idea
that the timezone field is required to add the entry to the list.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Click on the clock panel
2) Beside "Locations" select "Edit"
3) This will open a new window - In the "Locations" tab click "+ Add"
4) Put the name of any of the cities mentioned above
5) Press OK

What happens:
The city is not added.

What is expected:
Either every city should automatically be associated with a Timezone or if this
is not technically possible for some reason, prompt the user to input the
missing mandatory field.

[Bug 291840] [NEW] gphoto2 backend unable to mount MTP audio player

2008-10-31 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 8.10
Package version: 1.0.2-0ubuntu1

Ideally GVFS is able to "mount" and browse MTP devices (such as some
audio player) using its gphoto2 backend.

Using "gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor" process, users should simply plug
the device and a new icon should appear on computer:// location allowing
to browse the MTP device.

On my system, this don't occur, GVFS seems to ignore the device. Note
that this is not a libgphoto issue. In fact, the `gphoto2` program is
able to recognize and manage the device, see attached output.

[Bug 291833] [NEW] tree view item does not disappear when i unmount a usb drive

2008-10-31 Thread rfugger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Using Ubuntu 8.10, nautilus 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1.

I have the left sidebar of nautilus set to display "tree" view.
Normally two items are shown: "Home Folder" and "File System". When I
plug in a USB device and it automounts, I get a third item for that
device. When I right click on the USB device and select "unmount" (or
"eject", which is sometimes available) immediately after mounting and
before browsing any files on the device, the tree view returns to the
normal two items. But if I browse any files on the device first, the
usb device remains in tree view, although an error occurs if I try to
access it. If I plug the device back in again without closing the
nautilus window, another copy of the device appears in the tree view.

The device ought to disappear from the tree view regardless of whether
I'm browsing files on the device when I unmount it.

[Bug 291831] [NEW] Rhythmbox shows "identical" music files once for every format they are stored in

2008-10-31 Thread Mario Vukelic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I use Intrepid, rhythmbox 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4

I rip CDs from my collection into
/media/HD300/Culture/Music/flac*.flac, then convert the flac files to
/media/HD300/Culture/Music/mp3*.mp3.

Rhythmbox shows all these files twice, see attached screenshot. This
breaks usable ability to play albums and is ugly. Actually I had thought
this would work due to the setting in Preferences -> tab Music ->
"Preferred format: *.flac". It sounded to me as if this would prefer the
flac over the mp3 if I have both. Since noticing that this doesn't work,
I wonder what the setting might be for and can't think of anything :)
The included minimal docs don't say, and I found nothing via Google,
either.

Funnily enough, I can't find much on Google about the duplicate entries,
except one guy having the same problem, but receiving no useful answer.
I imagine that this should be a common problem, so maybe I am doing
something wrong?

[Bug 195180] Re: user-mountable (nfs) filesystems are not showing up in Computer view of nautilus

2008-10-31 Thread JediMonkey
I found a workaround whilst trawling for a fix from a mandriva bug report:
http://www.nabble.com/-Bug-42792--nautilus,-NEW:-Nautilus-will-no-longer-show-NFS-shares-from-fstab-in-computer:---td18978063.html

Put the mount point in /media and it automatically appears (as well as
ensuring 'user' in the options).

Works under intrepid :)

[Bug 291813] Re: rhythmbox-metadata process uses 100% cpu, even after closing app

2008-10-31 Thread rfugger
Turns out the rhythmbox app main process was still active after I closed
the app, probably related to another bug I just filed
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/291810) where
my Sansa Clip player fails to show up in rhythmbox under intrepid. The
rhythmbox process was launched by the system as:

 rhythmbox file:///media/SANSA%20CLIP

Perhaps failing to communicate properly with the device (which worked
fine under hardy) caused the app to shutdown improperly.

Also the 100% cpu at nice 0 still isn't cool, especially when there are
no new music files for rhythmbox to possibly be indexing (only new video
files). And it shouldn't index continually while I'm downloading, just
when I'm done.

[Bug 81339] Re: Cannot get laptop panel brightness

2008-10-31 Thread Kenneth R. Crudup
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 43572 ***

I ditto Sandro Mani's comment; I can still adjust brightness via the
slider or the keys (just as I could in 8.04), but now I see "Cannot get
laptop panel brightness" when hovering over the brightness applet since
upgrading to 8.10 yesterday.

This is with two kernels (vanilla): 2.26.7 and 2.27.4 .

[Bug 291647] Re: Nautilus deletes all users directories when unmounting Sandisk Sansa MP3 player in MSC mode

2008-10-31 Thread taco
It is reproducible on my system by

1. plug in mp3 player by USB
2. when Nautilus prompts what to do with the device select open folder
3. either delete files on the mounted filesystem or already have a trash folder
present
4. right click on the icon for the mp3 player on the desktop and select unmount
5. at the nautilus prompt advising that it needs to empty the trash, select
empty garbage bin
6. wait a few minutes while the file operations dialogue says preparing (but
just appears to hang)
7. cancel the file operations dialogue
8. Home directory will now not load nor will additional mounted hard drives open
9. logout and back in
10. all config files in home will now have disappeared, appearing as if this is
my first login again

I am unsure if this is relevant but the trash folder on the mp3 player
is called ".trash-1000" rather than just ".trash" for some reason

I haven't attempted to reproduce this yet on another system or with
other forms of removable storage

[Bug 291811] [NEW] Groovy and Grails support is missing

2008-10-31 Thread Luis Arias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shared-mime-info

I have filed a bug with upstream gtksourceview to include groovy and gsp
language files.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=553894

However for things to work automatically with gedit, I need the groovy-
mime.xml and gsp-mime.xml language files included in shared-mime-info.

The author of this blog has kindly provided these files which I will
also attach to this issue.
