[Bug 293535] Re: CPU always 100% CPU

2008-11-07 Thread François GUÉRIN
Hello,

It'is realy a strange thing...

When my session starts, gconfd-2 is running high, with 20% CPU. Compiz
in disabled in System > Preference > Appearence.

When I try to launch compiz with the command-line , I have the folowing
message (old version, before today's update):

$ compiz-manager &

Compiz does not launch (it worked with hardy), and gconfd-2 goes low CPU
(less than 2%), the gnome desktop works nicely with metacity.

I've tryed with the new updated version, with the same result, but no
metacity anymore.

Thanks

[Bug 188401] Re: OOo extensions (.oxt) only show up as type application/zip

2008-11-07 Thread Chris Cheney
Fabian,

Yes that is because I added the mimetype to a file installed by
OpenOffice.org, but long term this should probably be in shared-mime-
info instead. I still have to determine how to cause the .oxt to
properly be installed by double clicking on it, that part is a bug of
the OpenOffice.org packaging.

[Bug 294677] [NEW] Incorrect description for Word document mime type

2008-11-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

/usr/share/mime/packages/openoffice.org-common.xml (line 63) which is installed
with OO.o defines the mimetype "application/msword" with the description "Word
document template". This causes all Word documents (both *.doc and *.dot) to be
described as "Word document template in Nautilus.

Word document template

The solution is to change that mimetype to application/msword-template, as used
by freedesktop.org shared-mime-database. (Probably this has to be changed in
some source file used to generate this file.)

[Bug 295033] Re: Evolution crashes (Changing the queries (contains? "summary" "") Segmentation fault)

2008-11-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 293318] Re: gnome-settings-daemon leaks memory

2008-11-07 Thread GoLo
On my laptop gnome-settings-daemon had 100% cpu usage. My
/var/log/Xorg.0.log was a 118Mb file containing:

(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/wacom
No such file or directory.
Error opening /dev/input/wacom : No such file or directory

I've removed wacom references from /etc/X11/xorg.conf and now cpu usage
is back to normal.

[Bug 295122] [NEW] nautilus reports incorrect directory size

2008-11-07 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I tried to find out how big my home dir was, I right clicked, and
it reported 127 GB with 22k files. That's not right so I tried again and
it reported 45 GB and some other number of files. Each time I try, it
usually reports a different size.

If I open the directory and select all of the files, including hidden,
nautilus reports 167 or so GB and a few more files. While typing this I
left the proprieties window open and a few minutes after I opened the
properties dialogue, it updated to 320K files 223GB.

My home dir is mounted on a separate partition and df reports that I
have used 318GB of it.

I imagine that it might still be calculating in the background but stopped
updating the size counter. I thought It was done and had not indication that it
was not. There is no noticeable HDD activity.

[Bug 295009] Re: deleting files in nautilus does not delete the files

2008-11-07 Thread ArbitraryConstant
After trying a few more cases it looks like this case happens when I
follow a symlink into the other filesystem. In that case gvfs-ls does
not show the file.

1. symlink from your home directory into another filesystem
2. use "dd if=/dev/zero of=zero bs=1M count=1024" to create a file there
3. follow that symlink in nautilus
4. delete the file in nautilus
5. it's now in a .Trash-1000 folder, but the trash icon is empty and gvfs-ls
trash: doesn't show it

[Bug 282326] Re: Power Manager plugin prevents Suspend when not playing music

2008-11-07 Thread Andy Buckley
I can verify this. When Rhythmbox is closed, if I try to hibernate or
suspend, I get a notification dialog which says:

"Request to do policy action: Music Player has stopped the policy action
from taking place: Playing"

It doesn't time-out... I left my laptop overnight in this state in the
hope that a lock-file or similar would be cleared, but in the morning I
still got the same blocking dialog.

In some cases, it says "Multiple applications have stopped...", and then
lists "Music player" twice, but I think this may be related to a RB bug
when using the music time-slider in cross-fade mode.

I'm using Intrepid, with all recent updates installed.

This bug is not fixed. If you install Intrepid, you will see the Upnp
plugin available in Rhythmbox. If you try to enable it, you will get an
error and no indication on how to fix it.

Worst of all : you will get this error each time you launch Rhythmbox
with no way to disable it (except by installing python-coherence which
is completely not intuitive).

thanks for the report, but there's no need to open a bug in launchpad if
you already did it on GNOME upstream, it will only create extra work for
triagers and developers which take care of these products, setting this

[Bug 294879] Re: scaling a display in vinagre shows a blank white screen when connecting to a dual monitor setup from a single monitor computer

2008-11-07 Thread SalsaDoom
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: vinagre

Getting enough information to submit a proper bug report took a bit of
work here because the problem only shows up in certain configurations.
When scaling, connecting to a host with two monitors, from a computer
with a single monitor, the screen scaling shows a blank white screen.
From what I can tell with my own systems, this only occurs in that
circumstance. Scaling a host with two monitors from a client with two
monitors seems to work fine. Scaling a host with a single monitor from a
client with a single monitor seems to work fine. I wasn't able to test
if scaling a single monitor host from a client with two monitors works
or not yet. A good example of when this comes up is when you connect to
a workstation with two monitors from a laptop.

This only occurs in Vinagre 2.24.1 (what ships with Ubuntu 8.10), and
  whether the host runs 8.10, 8.04 doesn't seem to matter. I haven't
tested with any other vnc server but vino, but the problem did happen
with vino on 8.10 and 8.04. It is almost certainly unrelated to the
- client anyway.

[Bug 133541] Re: Gutsy: expand window to full height now goes to far in GNOME

2008-11-07 Thread Marsh Ray

http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/gnome-control-center?view=revision&revision=9038

A workaround for me was to use gconf-editor to set
/apps/metacity/general/action_double_click_titlebar (and
action_middle_click_titlebar) to "toggle_maximize_vertically" instead of
"toggle_maximize_vert".

[Bug 216250] Re: contact-lookup-applet freezes - not working at all (Gutsy & Hardy)

2008-11-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
I think you're mixing things here, some reporters are commenting that
they get a crash, others that the applet freeze and others that the
applet doesn't accept input, this report is about applet not accepting
input which works fine for me in Hardy and Intrepid, could you try to
recreate that with an stock user created on your system? is the
evolution-data-server process running? thanks.

[Bug 205999] Re: Attachments names using "ç " are not correctly sent by Evolution (ATT .dat)

2008-11-07 Thread Holger
I tested a few cases (with the supplied hardy-packages on launchpad):

Äbö lü.txt
Äbölü.txt
Xxx xx XX-X Xx xx XxxxXx xx XXX 15Nov07.pdf
Xxx_xx_XX-X_Xx_xx_XxxxXx_xx_XXX__15Nov07.pdf

Contrary to the comment of hggdh of Nov 5th, both long filenames (with
and without blanks) passed ok. So my experience is in line with
Effenberg0x0 (comment nr. 32)

However, the shorter names with "Umlaute" did not work out :( There is however
an improvement. It is *not* anymore ATTX.DAT, just hyroghlyphic names with
the original extension (s. attachment). It is remarkable that the name is shown
differently in OWA (Web-Access) and Outlook.
Might be a problem of Encoding (us-ascii; 7 bit).

I can test more beginning of next week if required.

the relevant part of the header follows:

--=-+JaI8DjvsOFjibbhVfpv
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=Äbölü.txt
Content-Type: text/plain; name=Äbölü.txt; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Äbö lü.txt"
Content-Type: text/plain; name="Äbö lü.txt"; charset=us-ascii

2008-11-07 Thread Alessandro Ranaldi

because I don't have them to try...
2 - I'm only trying to burn the intrepid iso file downloaded from
switzerland-switch server with brasero on Intrepid.

what esle do you need?

ps. thank for your passion!

Configure your media keys in System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts,
not using xmodmap. gnome-settings-daemon listens to a key combination
specified in gconf.

[Bug 205999] Re: Attachments names using "ç " are not correctly sent by Evolution (ATT .dat)

2008-11-07 Thread Holger
Don't overestimate my guessing on encoding. On a second look, the
specified charset and Encoding is for the content - which was in my test
case empty dummy files. Will test further, but unfortunately only
beginning of next week.

2008-11-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
