[Bug 160518] Re: totem-gstreamer does not detect srt file

You're right, enabling that option correctly displays the subtitles.
This should definitely be enabled by default.

[Bug 305927] [NEW] gedit leaks memory

2008-12-07 Thread weltall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

It seems gedit doesn't release the memory used to open a file when
closing it making it so use ridiculous space in ram for little files if
you opened a big file and closed it. Strangely gnome system monitor
reports a lower memory use under the processes tab, but reports the used
ram in the resources tab and top actually gives the high amounts of used
ram.

To try this:
1- open gedit
2- open top
3- notice the ram use: 19393 weltall 20 0 38980 19m 10m S0 0.7
0:00.79 gedit
4- get a big file to open (mysql dumps are the best to try. I've tried with a
~50 mb dump)
5- you will notice an higher ram use, for sure 300mb to open a 50mb file is a
bit excessive but this is still an optimization issue which goes beyond this
bug report: 19393 weltall 20 0 342m 305m 12m S2 10.1 3:02.14 gedit
6- close the tab which had the file
7- check again top no changes in ram use: 19393 weltall 20 0 342m 305m
12m S0 10.1 3:02.85 gedit
this is definitely a memory leak or a bad ram retaining for future use
implementation
8- try to reopen the file, gedit will take the same time to parse the file, but
the increase of ram use is more little: 19393 weltall 20 0 381m 345m 12m
S0 11.4 6:01.23 gedit
9- close the file again the ram use doesn't change again

other gnome applications have similar leak issues like nautilus which
after some days takes more than 300mb like nothing and closing windows
doesn't release ram so maybe the problem might reside in underlying
libraries.

It seems applications like geany actually releases correctly the ram but
i didn't investigate if they use similar libraries

i'm using ubuntu intrepid with all the updates from normal repositories
(altough this bug has been present since various releases)

[Bug 303040] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with ImportError in module()

2008-12-07 Thread Noel J. Bergman
In Hardy and Intrepid, it is in python-gnome2-desktop, as can be seen
from http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/amd64/python-
gnome2-desktop/filelist and http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/amd64
/python-gnome2-desktop/filelist.

That and other files disappeared with Jaunty:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/amd64/python-gnome2-desktop/filelist

The code at /usr/share/doc/python-
gnome2-desktop/examples/applet/applet.py still expects it. As Kai
suggests, it seems that we may just have a b0rked package in Jaunty.

[Bug 210866] Re: Playback on both digital out and analog at the same time broken since gstreamer-alsa 0.10.17.3-1

2008-12-07 Thread Daniel T Chen
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

(You can also use pulseaudio to route to all devices simultaneously; you
need to edit /etc/pulse/default.pa and use module-alsa-sink explicitly
with spdif, however, which also means not loading module-hal-detect...)

** Changed in: gst-plugins-base0.10 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete

[Bug 305428] Re: evolution-data-server eats memory like crazy

2008-12-07 Thread Andreas Schultz
after 2 days running evolution with no restart or actuin (over the
weekend), e-d-s is eating 3G of memory now. It did run under valgrind,
but valgrind itself crached when e-d-s terminated, so no traces :-(

The only output i got from it was:

==14646== searching for pointers to 15,872,136 not-freed blocks.

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-12-07 Thread goto
I think that this has to do with the video driver. The new graph uses cairo (?)
and this must be rendered. This has to do the graphic card, but it the driver
does not support this, the CPU must do this, which results in a very heavy CPU
usage.
That a new nvidia driver could fix this problem shows, that the graphics driver
has to do with it.

I have for example and AMD/ATI radeonhd 3200 onboard and use the
radeonhd driver and I suffer from this bug.

So the assumption of Matti Laakso is correct. And I think this model is not the
only one that reports a different battery.charge_level.design in each cycle, so
far battery.reporting.design (6580 now) seems to be more correct. I don't known
what should be the correct way to detect a different battery, but I think that
most users only have one battery, so perhaps the default should be to assume
that it is always the same battery and provide some way to disable the behavior
for people with multiple batteries.

[Bug 305920] Re: Rhythmbox 0.11.6 Crashes

2008-12-07 Thread goto
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 305972] [NEW] No codec warning for DAAP shares

2008-12-07 Thread Craig Setera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I was having trouble with DAAP shares in Rhythmbox. The error was non-
descript and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I could see the
available music, but not play. When playing I received a complaint that
*appeared* to be about being able to authenticate. It turned out that I
didn't have the appropriate restricted drivers installed. I found that
out when attempting to play a local MP3 file and was told the available
codec was unavailable. It would be nice if the DAAP plugin would prompt
with the same error when the codecs are not available.

[Bug 305994] [NEW] nautilus gives filename error for chinese filename

[Bug 305998] [NEW] Can't play free format mp3

2008-12-07 Thread Paulo J. S. Silva
Public bug reported:

It looks like the old bug #49522
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins-
ugly0.10/+bug/49522). Gstreamer in intrepid stopped playing free format
mp3s.

1) Ubuntu release:
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2) Package version: 0.10.9-1

To reproduce it just do the following:

1) Rip any music to wav in /tmp

2) Compress it with lame using the --freeformat option:

   lame --freeformat -b 128 my_music.wav

3) Try to play it using gstreamer:

   gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///tmp/my_music.wav.mp3

Gstreamer will freeze saying Pipeline is PREROLLING ... No sound in
the speakers.

Such files play fine with mpg321.

I attach a file the shows the problem.

[Bug 306033] [NEW] Inaccessible offline GIMP documentation in Intrepid

2008-12-07 Thread Gergely Máté
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

On Hardy, I installed the gimp-help package, and GIMP automatically knew
to show up the offline docs on clicking Help. However, when upgrading
to Intrepid Ibex, the GIMP also upgraded to 2.6 - but the gimp-help
package is still about 2.4. It would be not a problem, thus, because the
docs always lags behind the new features, and are still quite useful.
But: in the new GIMP 2.6 if I click Help, and ask for the manual, I am
redirected for the online version.

The offline docs does not show up anymore - even when the gimp-help
package is installed.

[Bug 306020] Re: At start, upper and lower bars do not appear

2008-12-07 Thread Gabriel Ruiz
First of all, type [Alt + F2] and type gnome-panel and it will appear,
then look at your configuration of gnome panel and if it happen again,
erase the configuration file of gnome-panel. It`s currently an user
error, not really a bug.

ekiga (3.0.1-1ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge to Debian experimental, to get Ekiga 3. (LP: #274085) Remaining
Ubuntu changes:
- Launchpad Integration: (Ubuntu specific)
  + debian/control.in: Add liblaunchpad-integration-dev build dependency.
  + Add ubuntu_lpi.patch: Call launchpad_integration_add_items() in main()
and
check for the launchpad-integration pkg-config module.
+ Add autoconf.patch: autoconf changes from above patch.
- Add ubuntu_desktop-file-onlyshowin.patch: Show ekiga in Mobile, too.
  (Ubuntu specific).
- debian/control.in: Add missing fdupes build dependency for identical
GNOME help file symlinking. (Debian #505536)
  * Drop 42_change_pixmaps.dpatch: Many of the old icons do not exist any
more, some have been replaced, and keeping the remaining three would make
them look very inconsistent.
  * Convert our dpatches to quilt patches and rewrite them for new upstream
version.
  * Add migrate_2.0_settings.patch: Properly migrate settings from
2.0. Taken from upstream SVN, thanks to Damien Sandras!

ekiga (3.0.1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Eugen Dedu ]
  * New version.  (Closes: #500089).
  * Add our own changelog file in /usr/share/doc.
  * Remove gnomemeeting transitional package.
  * Discover new interfaces. (Closes: #488199).
  * Compile with dbus support. (Closes: #467212).
  * Numeric keypad inserts digits at correct position. (Closes: #440159).
  * Use libnotify upon call. (Closes: #412604).
  * Symlink identical GNOME help files, to reduce size. (Closes: #505536).
  * Explicitely build-depends on a few dev packages, even if they were
pulled out anyway by the other dependencies.

  [ Loic Minier ]
  * Use clean:: instead of clean: in rules.
  * Don't disable Uploaders: generation for control.in - control generation
in rules.
  * Fix some tabs which were size 4 anyway.
  * Generate a PO template during build by calling intltool-update -p in
install; thanks Ubuntu and Martin Pitt; closes: #505535.
  * Also let the -dbg depend on ${misc:Depends}.
  * Cleanup rules; in particular, use dpkg-parsechangelog and honor
distclean/clean failures, remove old clean rules, commented out stuff,
gtk-only stuff.
  * Pass -s to dh_* in binary-arch.
  * Use debian/*.links and debian/*.manpages instead of symlink manually or
passing files to dh_installman.
  * Use ftp.gnome.org in copyright.
  * Switch to quilt and fix target deps in the process; build-dep on quilt
instead of dpatch; rename news.dpatch to 00_news.patch and refresh;
replace 00list with series.
  * Install autotools-dev config.guess and .sub after patching.

I wasn't sure if any of my old local configuration settings from Hardy

logging in I see the same error, for this new user as well.

I start my session through the standard graphical login screen (gdm?).

I've attached the .xsession-errors for the new user.

[Bug 77945] Re: Windows key producing Mod4Hyper instead of just Mod4

2008-12-07 Thread Scott James Remnant
On Intrepid, it displays Super.

But it ONLY displays Super, it sets the shortcut to the Super key
itself - and doesn't use it as a modifier (I wanted Super+KEY)

[Bug 306062] [NEW] Moving a window between xinerama screens using panel context-menu disable pointer

2008-12-07 Thread KRS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Ubuntu 8.10
Xinerama on 2 screens with a nvidia Geforce 6600 and proprietary driver v177

Step to reproduce:

- Open a windows
- move it on the second screen
- using right-clic on the deskbar, choose move to move the window
- move it back to the first screen
- the windows doesn't appear on the first screen and now your pointer is
useless. You can move it but you can't click or move anything.

This bug appear to me after updating from 8.04 to 8.10.

What can I do to help more?

[Bug 269824] Re: totem plays on two accounts simultaneously

2008-12-07 Thread Bryan Quigley
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
Could you try this on 8.10 and see if the issue is there as well? Also, could
you try with the gstreamer backend as well?
This should help us narrow down where the bug is from.

[Bug 298539] Re: rhythmbox 0.11.5 - Hardy - fails to remember or detect daap shares

2008-12-07 Thread Bryan Quigley
This works for me with Firefly on a Intrepid server and intrepid
desktop. The DAAP spec had changed previously which may broken it when
using two different versions.

The only other thing I can think of is that you may have uninstalled or
disabled avahi service?

When trying to edit my account settings in Evolution, everytime it
crashes. It's enough to just do:

Edit -- Preferences -- Mail Accounts - click Edit -- Click OK

When running from console, this is the output generated:

at first noticed something was wrong when it won't remember settings.
For example, everytime I collapse On this Computer and it always used
to remain collapsed after closing and opening Evolution, but now it's
not remembering this. Believe it's attributed to updates of the
Evolution packages yesterday.

Also attached strace in case it might be helpful.
