[Bug 305927] [NEW] gedit leaks memory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit It seems gedit doesn't release the memory used to open a file when closing it making it so use ridiculous space in ram for little files if you opened a big file and closed it. Strangely gnome system monitor reports a lower memory use under the processes tab, but reports the used ram in the resources tab and top actually gives the high amounts of used ram. To try this: 1- open gedit 2- open top 3- notice the ram use: 19393 weltall 20 0 38980 19m 10m S0 0.7 0:00.79 gedit 4- get a big file to open (mysql dumps are the best to try. I've tried with a ~50 mb dump) 5- you will notice an higher ram use, for sure 300mb to open a 50mb file is a bit excessive but this is still an optimization issue which goes beyond this bug report: 19393 weltall 20 0 342m 305m 12m S2 10.1 3:02.14 gedit 6- close the tab which had the file 7- check again top no changes in ram use: 19393 weltall 20 0 342m 305m 12m S0 10.1 3:02.85 gedit this is definitely a memory leak or a bad ram retaining for future use implementation 8- try to reopen the file, gedit will take the same time to parse the file, but the increase of ram use is more little: 19393 weltall 20 0 381m 345m 12m S0 11.4 6:01.23 gedit 9- close the file again the ram use doesn't change again other gnome applications have similar leak issues like nautilus which after some days takes more than 300mb like nothing and closing windows doesn't release ram so maybe the problem might reside in underlying libraries. It seems applications like geany actually releases correctly the ram but i didn't investigate if they use similar libraries i'm using ubuntu intrepid with all the updates from normal repositories (altough this bug has been present since various releases) Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 gedit: Installed: 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.24.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gedit It seems gedit doesn't release the memory used to open a file when closing it making it so use ridiculous space in ram for little files if you opened a big file and closed it. [Bug 303040] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with ImportError in module()
In Hardy and Intrepid, it is in python-gnome2-desktop, as can be seen from http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/amd64/python- gnome2-desktop/filelist and http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/amd64 /python-gnome2-desktop/filelist. That and other files disappeared with Jaunty: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/amd64/python-gnome2-desktop/filelist The code at /usr/share/doc/python- gnome2-desktop/examples/applet/applet.py still expects it. As Kai suggests, it seems that we may just have a b0rked package in Jaunty. -- deskbar-applet crashed with ImportError in module() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303040 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-python-desktop in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU
I think that this has to do with the video driver. The new graph uses cairo (?) and this must be rendered. This has to do the graphic card, but it the driver does not support this, the CPU must do this, which results in a very heavy CPU usage. That a new nvidia driver could fix this problem shows, that the graphics driver has to do with it. I have for example and AMD/ATI radeonhd 3200 onboard and use the radeonhd driver and I suffer from this bug. -- System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

If I launch g-p-m --debug --no-daemon I see this: TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-cell-unit.c FN:gpm_cell_unit_print,78 - charge design 54521 [...] TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-profile.c FN:gpm_profile_set_config_id,783 - config_id = 901-54521 TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-profile.c FN:gpm_profile_load_data,734 - loading battery data from '/home/coma/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager/profile-901-54521-discharging.csv' *** WARNING *** TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-array.c FN:gpm_array_load_from_file,265 - cannot open file /home/coma/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager/profile-901-54521-discharging.csv TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-profile.c FN:gpm_profile_load_data,745 - no data found, generating initial (poor) data TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-profile.c FN:gpm_profile_load_data,734 - loading battery data from '/home/coma/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager/profile-901-54521-charging.csv' *** WARNING *** TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-array.c FN:gpm_array_load_from_file,265 - cannot open file /home/coma/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager/profile-901-54521-charging.csv TI:10:58:48 TH:0x9c30640FI:gpm-profile.c FN:gpm_profile_load_data,745 - no data found, generating initial (poor) data So the assumption of Matti Laakso is correct. And I think this model is not the only one that reports a different battery.charge_level.design in each cycle, so far battery.reporting.design (6580 now) seems to be more correct. I don't known what should be the correct way to detect a different battery, but I think that most users only have one battery, so perhaps the default should be to assume that it is always the same battery and provide some way to disable the behavior for people with multiple batteries. $ lshal |grep battery udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0' battery.charge_level.current = 35000 (0x88b8) (int) battery.charge_level.design = 50218 (0xc42a) (int) battery.charge_level.last_full = 48791 (0xbe97) (int) battery.charge_level.percentage = 71 (0x47) (int) battery.charge_level.rate = 8005 (0x1f45) (int) battery.is_rechargeable = true (bool) battery.model = '901' (string) battery.present = true (bool) battery.rechargeable.is_charging = false (bool) battery.rechargeable.is_discharging = true (bool) battery.remaining_time = 15740 (0x3d7c) (int) battery.reporting.current = 4586 (0x11ea) (int) battery.reporting.design = 6580 (0x19b4) (int) battery.reporting.last_full = 6393 (0x18f9) (int) battery.reporting.rate = 1049 (0x419) (int) battery.reporting.technology = 'Li-ion' (string) battery.reporting.unit = 'mAh' (string) battery.serial = '' (string) battery.technology = 'lithium-ion' (string) battery.type = 'primary' (string) battery.vendor = 'ASUS' (string) battery.voltage.current = 7632 (0x1dd0) (int) battery.voltage.design = 8400 (0x20d0) (int) battery.voltage.unit = 'mV' (string) info.capabilities = {'battery'} (string list) info.category = 'battery' (string) info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0' (string) -- g-p-m doesn't save charge and discharge profiles https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 305920] Re: Rhythmbox 0.11.6 Crashes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Rhythmbox 0.11.6 Crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 306033] [NEW] Inaccessible offline GIMP documentation in Intrepid

It would be not a problem, thus, because the docs always lags behind the new features, and are still quite useful. This bug was fixed in the package ekiga - 3.0.1-1ubuntu1 --- ekiga (3.0.1-1ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low * Merge to Debian experimental, to get Ekiga 3. (LP: #274085) Remaining Ubuntu changes: - Launchpad Integration: (Ubuntu specific) + debian/control.in: Add liblaunchpad-integration-dev build dependency. + Add ubuntu_lpi.patch: Call launchpad_integration_add_items() in main() and check for the launchpad-integration pkg-config module. + Add autoconf.patch: autoconf changes from above patch. - Add ubuntu_desktop-file-onlyshowin.patch: Show ekiga in Mobile, too. (Ubuntu specific). - debian/control.in: Add missing fdupes build dependency for identical GNOME help file symlinking. (Debian #505536) * Drop 42_change_pixmaps.dpatch: Many of the old icons do not exist any more, some have been replaced, and keeping the remaining three would make them look very inconsistent. * Convert our dpatches to quilt patches and rewrite them for new upstream version. * Add migrate_2.0_settings.patch: Properly migrate settings from 2.0. Taken from upstream SVN, thanks to Damien Sandras! ekiga (3.0.1-1) experimental; urgency=low [ Eugen Dedu ] * New version.
